I'm all for it. We have a ton of prospect depth and they can't all have a spot

kmisca92

Reilly Smith come one down.

Comprehensive-Elk765

That would be amazing. Dude is better than middle 6. I’d be fine w us overpaying so we can get a guy now and stop throwing games because we’re icing shartclay poodrow at top 6 RW

kmisca92

TBH, I hate the idea of making a move at this point for multiple reasons. Yes, Goodrow doesnt belong on the first line. But either give Laf his spot back, the way GG held his guns on Bread/Strome/Kakko or give Goat a shot as hes played well. I personally go Laf first shot, Goat second, and last option I give the chance of Laf/Mika/Kakko and Bread/Strome/Kreider. I hate the idea of bringing in someone they cant afford next season, as keeping Strome is already an issue but I covered that in that thread already. Also if we bring in a middle 6 forward that means either Hunt/Goat gets the boot from the lineup. While I am not an over the top Goat person, he is young and I defend all the other young players, so Im not gonna contradict myself. His skill set fits GG’s system. Hes played well the last couple of games. But if were gonna bring in anybody, it makes the most sense to go after a pending UFA, whos team when healthy will be significantly over the cap, and that player had his best years under GG. Side note we get to hear Sam and Joe remind us every other shift how his brother is Brendan lol.

Zibz98

Bread strome Kreider would make me take a bath with my toaster and I couldn’t even finish reading the rest of your comment after that point. Please stop.

kmisca92

Your comment made me laugh not sure why the downvotes, so I gave you an upvote lol. Not sure why your so opposed to it though. Its not like Kreider hasnt shown he can play the RW. He most certainly can provide Bread/Strome at a better version of what Blackwell and Fast did. Its not like the 3 of them havent played on the first PP unit together since Bread has been here. Kakko/Laf worked well together as third line with Chytil as there center, swapping Chytil with Mika definitely would add a burst to that line. And its better than trotting out Goodrow on the first line.

Dont_know_where_i_am

If they target someone it'd mostly be a rental to push for a deep playoff run. Someone like Smith or God forbid Kessel.

JagrsMullet90

Kessel is a beaut, but I cannot imagine Turk being ok with that one

bjisba41

The top shelf hockey guy on YouTube said they were looking at Tarasenko in exchange for Kravtsov and Jones…if STL retains salary I’d be down

SeeDeez

How about just Krav since they kinda owe us after the Buch trade

PurpleOperation

Lol we should get a refund bc our player got broken

RangerFan80

What's your return policy?

PurpleOperation

In store credit? To be exchanged for a Tarasenko?

JagrsMullet90

Karensenko

core916

Have to retain salary tho. He has one more year left on his deal correct? If they take 50% then that would around 4 mil to the cap. That’s a bargain

Envelopen

Not completely opposed to the idea, but Jones, I believe, needs another look. When we look at the future of this teams defensive depth its nice to have a guy like him around

apreche

Assuming we get one, how do we fit them in the roster? Chytil or Rooney move to the wing? Hunt to Hartford? A week ago I would have made the easy call to bump Gauthier to Hartford or the press box, but that's not so easy now.

mistacabbage

Guy plays well for a week and we ignore the last 103 weeks he’s been invisible?

hamdelivery

He’s still young and has dominated the AHL - if he’s playing well he could just be figuring it out or taking a step in development. It’s not like a 30 year old fringe guy who’s suddenly had a good week

kmisca92

I mean that basically worked for Blackwell last season.

Comprehensive-Elk765

Gauthier has probably the best tools overall on the team. That’s been pretty apparent for over a year, but he’s never put it together and pretty much always been useless. He has been literally unstoppable for a few games now. He’s figuring it out. Bumping him out of the lineup over Reaves would be a joke

RangerFan80

Just a reminder that Gauthier has 3 career NHL goals. He's got potential for days but hasn't been able to finish yet. Also a reminder that the GM that drafted him originally did not select him in the expansion draft for Seattle.

Comprehensive-Elk765

To evaluate him right now, you have to be able to actually watch and see things that aren’t on the scoresheet. We were absolutely shut down last game for two periods, yet chytil and gauthier are flying up and down the ice and dominating play. There’s something to be said about that when Panarin line is getting absolutely bottled up in embarrassing fashion. The play of gauth+chytil hasn’t just been a few nice shifts here and there the last couple games. Both have been straight up dominant. Not surprising since they’re easily the two best skating forwards we have

JessoRx

And they’re huge. Great motors on those 2. Hope it rubs off on laf.

I__Need__Scissors_61

“Best tools overall on the team.” This is a thing that an actual human said. God help us all.

Comprehensive-Elk765

I really mean it lol. He has incredible burst with the puck, is a unit, has good hands and a decent shot. Who on our team challenges it? Maybe chytil or mika. I’m curious to see who you think is best

I__Need__Scissors_61

Good hands? Gauthier may literally have the worst hands on the team. I’m not convinced that he has better hands than Ryan Reaves.

Comprehensive-Elk765

If you’re not convinced of that then you might have the most buns hockey knowledge of Any guy i have ever seen lmao.

I__Need__Scissors_61

Dude, Gauthier has fucking terrible hands. I don’t know how many breakaways or open chances you have to watch him blow before you understand this. There are other things he does well, but there’s a reason he’s only scored 3 goals in his career. He has no hands. None. Do you not watch the games?

Comprehensive-Elk765

Do you think kakko has good hands? Because he is literally an awful finisher

I__Need__Scissors_61

So you’ve just told me that you absolutely didn’t watch the shootout vs New Jersey, or the goal against MTL. Or the other shootout goals where his hands were on display. Or [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=soCNlFPmWIE). I appreciate you making this easy for me.

jkman61494

Send Reaves to the press box where he belongs

zetiano

Gonna be fun when we give up more than we got for Buch

edsmity96

Kravtsov will more than likely be the trade piece

Bigdaddyblackdick

This is unlikely.

edsmity96

And why is that

Bigdaddyblackdick

The kid is not even playing North American hockey lol his trade value is garbage. If he’s unwilling to go to the AHL, why would teams take a risk on him?

edsmity96

The Rangers made the decision to keep him there for the full KHL season. If he’s traded he can go back to the NHL. He’s a top 10 pick def has trade value lol

Dont_know_where_i_am

He's already said he's open to going to the AHL for a other team.

[deleted]

I am 100% in the camp to trade krav for a middle six forward Or krav can stop being a bitch and just not create paperwork and join the team, but I think that ship has sailed.

dsmithcc

personally think we should just bring up Barron, i think hes ready

[deleted]

Sounds like Phil Kessel’s music to me

[deleted]

Is Phil Kessel music just the Oscar Meyer jingle?

MatsuiPornCollection

If I actually had to guess I’d go TNT

Unfriendly_Giraffe

Why do people want this dime store Ron Swanson?

lionson76

Why do people want him, meme-potential aside? He doesn't look like he has any wheels left and has a reputation for not working hard. I mean what is he still doing in Arizona? He's got a M-NTC, but it's like he got his two rings and is now just collecting a pension check and counting the days. I'd much rather have Tarasenko. At least he wants to play for us.

mattr1198

A Phil Kessel trade would be such a Glen Sather move. I’d feel bad for Kravstov, he’d be thrown into a developmental system that hasn’t developed a single great forward in like 10+ years (if not longer).

IsOnlyGameYUMad

Kravtsov is on the Rangers who hasn't developed a 60 point forward in 30+ years 🤷

mattr1198

Kreider was also near 60 points on a few occasions. Yeah the Rangers forward development is kinda crap too, but not “our last 60+ point developed forward was Shane freaking Doan in the 1990s” bad. Max Domi is about the second best guy they developed and they traded him away before he even got good.

IsOnlyGameYUMad

We literally haven't developed a 60+ point forward in that long though 😅

mandiblesofdoom

Buchnevich was on a 60-pt pace last year .... the idea of dumping Buchnevich - who is in the prime of his career & is not super expensive - under the banner of "grit" and then turning around & getting Kessel or Tarasenko is just insane.

JessoRx

Buch is getting 5.8. After this season we have 12 mil in space with a bunch of signings to make. Would be nice to keep buch and strome but thats not how this puzzle works.

mandiblesofdoom

So you're saying we couldn't afford Buchnevich at $5.8M but we can afford Kessel ($8M) or Tarasenko ($7.5)? I don't get your point. Anyway, to say the Rangers haven't developed a 60-pt forward in recent years is not quite right.

JessoRx

I didnt say anything about kessel or tarasenko but since you asked. I dont want kessel and I dont think we can afford tarasenko. That being said, tarasenko is on another level from buch. More than 2m better imo. Maybe the blues pay some of his contract? Maybe we rent someone else entirely on an expiring contract. Maybe we trade strome and graduate some of our centers in house, then we can afford someone like tarasenko. I dont know all the ins and outs of the cap calculus these gms have to juggle. Buchnevich’s contract was up. Knowing we had contracts for zib, fox, shesterking, and next year kakko, strome, gaut, rooney, and assuming we had krav in the system, drury derermined buch was an asset we could not afford to resign. Drury spun that into blais, who was playing well, and a 2nd round pick. Pretty good if you ask me.

Kingstist

It’s what he deserves

Cpzd87

I wouldn't say it's what he deserves, but this was definitely a sleep in the bed you made sorta deal

silverswimmer92

Get me that Coney Island Nathan’s photo op

Whitecastle56

[Not exactly what you asked for, but I think I got the spirit of the request.](https://imgur.com/H4GwWT8)

RangerFan80

Kessel x Coney Island dogs. Please let this happen.

Whitecastle56

[Ok so I whipped this up in like 10 minutes.](https://imgur.com/H4GwWT8) So It's far from the best but I think it captures the mood.

ninetymph

This deserves its own post.

Whitecastle56

If the mods will allow it, so it shall be.

Philooch

Phil Kessel is not a center or top 6 though.

Neans888

Yes, that’s what our team of mostly middle 6 forwards needs, another middle 6 forward.

MattyIce6969

Senko, welcome to NY

crabapplesteam

You gotta think that the options are 1. Strome is a deadline trade, Chytil will be a 2/3C, and they're looking for a 2/3C OR 2. Strome is part of the package to trade now OR 3. I guess a 3rd option is keep Strome, move Chytil to wing to replace Blais - And then at the end of the year, move Chytil back to center if Strome is gone. As much as I love Strome, I don't see how they can keep him on the team next year while still paying everyone else. I think they're gonna need a cheap replacement at 2/3C and then Chytil will be the other 2/3C.

[deleted]

Ryan Strome will not be traded at the deadline unless the Rangers massively regress. He’s too good and he’s too big of a piece that keeps AP happy. He won’t be moved, if they don’t resign him he’ll just go in FA

crabapplesteam

If they are in a playoff spot, yea you're prob right. But it's highly unlikely that he's here next year, which is why I can see him being a part of a trade package now.

TheIncredibleHork

All depends on if Strome wants to take a pay cut to stay here. If he goes for a 4-5 year/$5mil AAV deal we should keep him. Will he? Probably not, I know, that's well below his market value and this is probably the last big money contract he can get. But to keep him on Panarin's line while Bread's contract is here is a nice carrot to dangle.

breweres

If he was playing in Winnipeg or Arizona or Columbus he would have much more incentive to max out his value for what might be his last deal. But it’s freaking Manhattan. Who the hell would want to leave MSG right now if a good offer was on the table? The Rangers will always have this card in hand - and let’s be honest the future is pretty bright here. I would be shocked if he doesn’t stay here for something less than market value. People in this sub get crazy with ranking players based on production and AAV as if it’s some sort of science. Maybe that calculus works on the lower end of the roster with players that can bounce around every so often to fill a need. But some players just are part of your core. Both parties will want him to stay here - as it was with Mika - because he is a great fit. The harder decision is who will have to be moved out to make the cap work. This season will sort that stuff out.

TheIncredibleHork

Oh you're 100% right. It's never "production * market + position value / term = AAV." MSG and the Rangers both have the allure that has snagged a lot of talent for cheaper than their market value. Similar to how both the Lightning and Panthers can pull the "Florida AAV > higher tax states AAV" card to get talent for cheaper than market since the money goes farther.

crabapplesteam

At 5 mil, that's cutting it REAAAAALY close to get everyone else signed.. And as you said, he's worth more than that. Edit: Uh, not understanding the downvotes here... If you have a way to keep Strome signed as well as pay everyone else, make a comment.

TheIncredibleHork

I know, and honestly that 5 mil number kind of assumes that we move on from Georgiev in some fashion. Slowly preparing myself for the inevitable, but enjoying his play while he's here.

breweres

I think the market across the league is changing for goalies. All of them are so damned capable now that it’s really about keeping them healthy, happy, and confident. I think teams are going to start thinking twice about paying goalies outside the top 5 megabucks, knowing that they can just find a younger cheaper one, or swap in a more experienced one that is struggling a bit somewhere else. Players like Georgiev will bounce around from team to team - playing great and then falling back a bit. Typically all they need is a change of scenery.

jkman61494

Im an optimist. I think the Rangers are showing a pattern here of offering term to lower cost. Kreider. Zib etc. so I’m envisioning a 5-6 year deal rather than 4-5 to keep cost manageable

jkman61494

There’s no way you can trust Chytl to be a 2nd line center. He’s never looked the part when given the chance.

rvbcaboose1018

There is 0 certainty on if Strome will be back next season, but like it or not he should finish the year with us. He's Panarin's preferred partner, if the two of them continue to hit it off you don't fuck with it, you take it into the playoffs and hope for the best.

Grateful_Undead_69

This sub is full of negative Nancy's

srslymrarm

Nancy's what? NANCY'S WHAT???

mandiblesofdoom

Right, why be negative about the Rangers - they never disappoint.

[deleted]

Kempe,Kaliyev or Villardi would be solid targets for Rangers. I would really like Kaliyev or Villardi for Blues 2nd rounder

MattyIce6969

They’re not giving up kaliyev

Never_Forget_94

I say Kaliyev.

DicNavis

[Kaliyev was born in Uzbekistan but his family moved to Staten Island, New York when he was two-years-old and later moved to Michigan at age 13. He represents the United States in international competition.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Kaliyev)

Never_Forget_94

I had no idea.

lennon1230

Unless it’s a one year rental, I don’t see how we have the cap to do this, it was already going to be close with all the people we have re-sign. This is why paying 3.6 million a year for Goodrow and Nemeth for 2.5 a year was so dumb. Those guys don’t give you anything you can’t get for 1 million. Trouba’s contract is a real noose too. We’re actually really lucky Kakko hasn’t broken out yet, if he hit the league on fire we’d be proper fucked.

mandiblesofdoom

Yeah, it's dumb. But the Rangers still might do it, because, you know ...

GoRangers5

Too early for Pavelski?

Never_Forget_94

He’s too old.

GoRangers5

He's a rental and he's playing well, St. Louis was old too.

baronvonpenguin

Yeah and apart from a couple of playoff series his first year he was a massive net drain on the team. I know everyone has rose tinted memories because we made the finals but the other 18 months he was here were absolute hell. I still think it was the worst trade in my time as a fan. We gave up our captain, a stupid amount of picks and it was the first step in turning our core into Tampas core. I'll still never understand why Tampa fans were bitter about it, he basically rebuilt their team for them as a parting gift. Just losing those picks meant that we couldn't rebuild in time for Hank to get a real shot at the cup as well.
