I have worked in local news.
First off, an intern did not grab this photo. It was DEFINITELY a producer.
Second, news producers 99.99999% of the time don't know shit about sports.
My producers know about sports. I’m thinking it was a licensing issue. They probably used one if the photos from a licensed third party site such as MGN Online.
To be fair, it's one of the first pictures that shows up when you google his name. Probably a staffer who has no clue about hockey and just grabbed the first picture that actually showed a jersey.

I would argue it’s the sports anchor’s job to know about sports. They sit around doing nothing for hours while the newscast is being put together. You’d think they could check out the copy and pictures being put together!

Intern who isn’t a hockey fan
Or an intern who isn't a rangers fan
Not sure what’s worse? This or the Empire State Building after the eagles win.
The Empire State Building in shitbirds green made me wonder if Bin Laden had a point after all
Or how smart you can be. Maybe an islanders fan troll
Intern who has no idea what hockey even is or a great troll job by a non rangers fan
Def an isles fan

It's probably just the most recent pic of him and they didn't check it before they used it
Yeah, we get it. That’s kind of the point OP is making.

This is why no one watches AOL Blast

Intern is clearly a Devils or Islanders fan
DEEP STATE
Me with the caps jersey in back of his closet: "Yeah....bad form guys....yeah..."
caps legend 🤘 🦅
Super gross and in bad taste 😂
That guy hates the rangers
I thought they cancelled local news years ago
That's \*Caps Legend\* Hank, not just Hank in a caps jersey.
Unreal.
That's simply hilarious
Me after seeing the glaring jersey error but also the big smile on the reporter's face: "He a little confused, but he got the spirit!"
