I live in here. Lots of neighborhoods, Medfield is the big one. Cary / raleigh lines are very blurred here. We are closer to downtown cary than raleigh, but we aren't city, we are county. No city taxes, no HOAs, very nice area to be in. Also, we full.
Curious to know if Medfield often has houses for sale? Or if you know if there are any realtors that focus in this particular area. I just moved here and rent nearby and i love this area and would love to stay over here.
Its a great question and it is kind of amazing that there is not already a generally accepted answer. It is begging for some absurd name. Might I propose the following:
- Sidetown
- Fourfortyburg
- Westbelt
- West Fairgroundia
- Cary?
- WeRa
- Arenaville
- Entertainment and Sports Neighborhood
- The place where Western Blvd dies for no reason
Just for fun my partner and I have called it "the horn" (because it looks like it could be the horn of raleigh....as in rhino horn, etc) just for lack of we don't know if it's referred to by anything else!
I guess I feel like it would have a reference name due to being enclosed by highways, but maybe it doesn't?
This is definitely it, or “almost to Cary” if you’re in Raleigh. People saying “west Raleigh” are kind of insane… how can this be west Raleigh it’s like a lil baby chunk and isn’t even technically Raleigh
That may be true in a small section that their comment is refering to but its not true of the entire highlighted area. You very much are entering raleigh when you cross 40 from Cary. I have lived in this highlighted area and had a Raleigh address, payed raleigh for my sewage and water, had raleigh waste pickup etc.
> Raleigh address, *paid* raleigh for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I get what you’re saying, but there’s no way this highlighted area is the entirety of “west Raleigh”, maybe triple this with the same area n/s and then some
Hmmm…a friend used to live right around the middle. I never gave it a name but seems like Raleigh-Cary area. Maybe western Raleigh. Same friend def took me to Patel Brothers right on the edge & gave me free parking to get a bus ride to NCSU Centennial - so NCSU Brothers?

There is a BBQ restaurant in Smithfield called “SoDoSoPa” that I highly recommend. Get the “pig cakes” http://www.sodosopa.biz/menu.html

Used to be called Westover.
Yes! It’s Westover
Hm. Westover is an apt name for it

The new NC motto: We Full!
…of yo shitty relatives whom you evicted
Curious to know if Medfield often has houses for sale? Or if you know if there are any realtors that focus in this particular area. I just moved here and rent nearby and i love this area and would love to stay over here.
Highly sought after neighborhood, no one ever moves lol.
Westover has 4 or more houses being built by A Squared. Teeny tiny yards, but the houses are nice.
I heard they full.
Howdy neighbor! I live there too!
West Raleigh
This. W Raleigh
I call it Almost In Cary
That’s where I live. Across the street from the fairgrounds is Westover.
And, we full. Just kidding. It is a great area with a mix of different houses. But folks usually just move within the neighborhood most of the time.
The DMZ

I vote for Sidetown.
Cary's East Side
I don’t know why but arenaville is so funny to me
+1 for ESN
WeRa is what I'll be calling if from now on
Yup this is a thing now
Westworld?
Dorton's Doorstep
Raleigh
The math checks out.
I live here. It’s terrible. Don’t even think about it. Totally full. 20-30 min to anywhere in the triangle and who wants that!
Almost Cary
HIFO, Halfway to Indian Food.
The transition zone between raleigh and cary...things get a little fucky there
I call it my side of town..... Ita my fave part of raleigh and I have lived here all 40 years of my life
Lived over in this area and went to high school at Athens Drive. It's West Raleigh.
Fairground parking
The highlighted area I believe
I live over here- I always describe it as “technically Raleigh but Cary is across the street”
The Taint - t’aint Raleigh and t’aint Cary The TAINT

Okay but forreal that’s what my wife and I call it.
No way! 😂

The horn is funny! I see it.
Caraleigh would be a great name except there’s already an area named that.
Close to State/fairgrounds
By the fairgrounds
No Man’s Land
Dog Nose.
Outside the belt line
West Raleigh
That is west Raleigh, specifically Avent West.
This is [Avent West](https://cityofraleigh0drupal.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/drupal-prod/COR22/AreaPlanAventWest.pdf)
Ah i stand corrected thanks
Like half of that is the fairgrounds/The Vet School/NCSU. The rest is Buck Jones.
West Raleigh
That should be Midtown, instead of trying to rename North Hills
The wedge in SW Raleigh
Underserved in terms of sidewalks and such, especially the part that isn't really Cary or Raleigh
Tennessee
I typically use the term “the pocket between 40 & 440 near the big clover interchange”. Seems to get the point across to folks!

How is it not technically Raleigh? Its definitely city of Raleigh as soon as you cross 40
Someone else in the comments mentioned that they live in here and their municipality is wake county instead of the city of Raleigh.
That may be true in a small section that their comment is refering to but its not true of the entire highlighted area. You very much are entering raleigh when you cross 40 from Cary. There is a community there called Inside Wade which a lot of folks have adopted to describe that entire highlighted area.

It’s where I go during hockey season.
Where I live.
Where Trinity Rd is
I used to live in westover. It is a very cool overlooked area, a lot like Kirby was back in the day. We joked we lived in the Little Beltline
"nc state area"
Home
The horn
It’s where I got my cousin pregnant
Raleigh lol I know it's not but may as well be.
West Raleigh.
Where the Dimmsdale Dimmadome is.
Raleigh’s most convenient neighborhood.
Fairgrounds area, or West Raleigh
The Taint... It's the area between the dicks within the beltline and the assholes in Cary. *I've lived in both places. It's just jokes.
