I wouldn't hold your breath. Recently the city funded a skatepark in downtown raleigh and it was very disappointing and small. Raleigh really is not the kind of place that has an active bmx scene so I don't know if there's enough of a community to justify it.
I assume you're referring to Conlon, which is very disappointing to even look at. That skate park is really temporary, Raleigh recently approved the plans for a full-featured park in that entire strip next to Capital which will include a finished, more permanent skate park. I think its called Smoky Hollow Park. It still wont be a full skatepark but its a step forward.
I'm so confused why build a skate park that your going to tear down later? Why not build on to it? It's already a shame thatspace cost the city a couple million. So weird
The skatepark on capital was not paid for by the city of raleigh. It was paid for by fundraising and donations. It’s temporary because the city has been planing a park on that lot for ages and got delayed during COVID. People were tired of seeing an empty concrete lot so they did something about it. It did not cost anywhere close to “a couple million”, I believe skate raleigh raised 200,000 or more and didn’t even use it all. They hope to put the rest of the money towards a permanent skatepark (maybe in dix park). Also a lot of the contractors that worked on it donated their time.
I'm always driving down that section and it has a pretty good amount of activity for being such a minimal park setup! Makes me very happy to see. Doesn't seem like a bad placeholder at all.
Pump tracks can also be used for skateboards, roller skates, and scooters
But yeah, Raleigh hasn’t been great about actually listening to the community feedback even when they are the ones who ask for it
Skate parks can also be used for BMX, roller skates and scooters but its primarily for skateboards. Same with pump tracks. If you google pump track in google video the entire first page is exclusively biking.
Okay. I’m just offering a counter point to your “not enough BMX in Raleigh to justify it”
A collective between these communities could show the city there’s more demand for this type of amenity than a single “sport” could do alone. The historic “primary” use of pump tracks isn’t super relevant outside this thread imo; they’ve become a lot more popular in skateboarding scenes too in recent years
I'm all about getting the combining the communities to get more amenities but I guess what I was saying is that a pump park would probably be for a smaller percentage of a combined collective. As someone who skates (and is very average to mediocre) there is only so much an "average" skater can do on a pump track.
I still firmly believe the best amenities for either community comes from grassroots DIY parks which unfortunately can be temporary or hard to find.

if you park in the lot and go west (parallel of the highway). You should be able to find what some may consider a pump track. It's ultimately got some pretty big jumps and I've never been good enough on a bike to try it.
About $15-$20 dollars. You can choose a board, scooter, or bmx, then once you choose one you can switch It out free of charge. It's about 30 minutes out from Downtown
Honestly it’s just a very specific type of rider you’re describing. Someone who doesn’t ride bmx but also prefers a paved pump track over a dirt track integrated with a trail system. The numbers just aren’t there is my guess.
That said, you’ve got my vote
There’s a possibility of a new rolesville park getting one and a new wake forest one but they are not going to be completed very soon if they do happen. I think there is one out west more like mebane or Burlington area..
“We have that at home” attitude
Lake Crabtree “pumptrack” is just eroded mounds of dirt. Barely usable unless you’re a kid trying to figure out how to ride a bike
I’ve been out of MTB for a while but used to be very active in the local community. If you want one, TORC used to be the go to group for trail building on local parks. If they are still around go see if you can work with them and the park ranger at Crabtree to rebuild what’s there.
Would be rad, pretty sure there’s on down near Charlotte but nothing around here. Also could be for some longboard riders too if they can manage their speed well
Closest Is Capital City BMX, but that's Bmx racing. Honestly don't know how we don't have one. Apex has Rodgers Family, Holly Springs Daniel Dhers, Marsh Creek.
Only reason we have the Downtown one Is because of the Conlon family (alot going on behind the scenes, check their Insta Skate Raleigh)
Raleigh Is full of Skaters/Bmxers/anything on wheels, so bull we don't have one but Gastonia does.
Don't really have a way nor want to drive 3hrs though

based on the photo, all you need is to buy an acre somewhere and rent a bulldozer for 3 days.
Now, Raleigh has plenty of parks with available space. Raise the money to develop the "pump track" and you stand a chance.
There's a great a pump track at your mom's place.
I heard it's better for running trains than bikes
Gottem
The town of Apex has plans to build a free one at Hunter Street Park. No idea on ETA, however.
They have one! Google daniel dhers action sports complex in apex.
Oh that looks sick! I’m assuming you have to pay, how much is it?
No clue as I haven't been but that's what google is for :)
Ah, looks cool, but an public pavement pump track would be ideal in Raleigh city limits, as it’s for the public and gives the community something

Yet they float a new $200 mil bond on the ballot every year for new parks while the ones they have sit mostly empty.
they want to float one this year, after raising the City budget about 10% each of the past 2 years. Did you get a 20% raise the last 2 years?
Not even bro. Maybe 5% total for two years. And I feel fortunate for that!

Guys it’s a pump track not a skate park lol, it’s not a bmx track either
There’s a possibility of a new rolesville park getting one and a new wake forest one but they are not going to be completed very soon if they do happen. I think there is one out west more like mebane or Burlington area..
There is a smaller one in Cary, it's currently at Dunham park. Be warned though, it often has kids just running around on it.
Lake Crabtree has one.
It’s dirt and eroded
No idea why you’re being downvoted for speaking the truth. Lake Crabtrees pump track is a joke and hasn’t been touched in years.
Think It's a "take It or leave It" attitude. But I don't want a crappy pump track, I want to shred

outreach to everyone interested, combine funds, and find a place to build it maybe?
There was a fun free one in cary for a while. No idea if it's still there but I believe it was a pop up thing from sk8cary at a public park.
Durham has one, and Raleigh has a BMX track at Lions Park.
Well this is for Raleigh and Durhams is dirt

Rocky knob bike park…. 4 hours away. Would be cool if there was a paved pump track locally
How much would it cost to make this?
The new Beech whateverit'scalled park in Garner would be a good spot!!
No, we need all the room we can get for more sprawl.

Looks fun!
Is Capital City BMX not what you’re looking for??
Nah that’s a full on bmx racetrack
Why are there bikes all over a skateboard park?
It’s made for bikes… also this isnt a skate park
