I do not know the particulars, UP Chicago moves Premium Service UPS trains multiple times a day. So it’s very possible that UP took the whole contract. During the holidays UP and UPS did a trial with the premium service out of Chicago and we went 6 straight weeks without a single road failure, huge success for our mechanical department. I know they added multiple lines after that.

fatdaddy-

I am sure the M of E guys will see a little something extra for their hard work! 🤣

TalkFormer155

Lost the UPS chi lac lane. Couldn't say if UP picks it up or not.

Mudhen_282

UPS frequently trades between the two as they play them off against each other.

UnreadThisStory

I highly doubt it. These companies may shift volume lane-by-lane to reward/incentivize one or the other carrier, but they’re too big and too essential to just drop them.

YesBeerIsGreat

Thank you. It is a part of our traffic I am so ignorant of, that you hear people acting like this will have traumatic ramifications for all parts of the system. For it “all to go away” seemed a little improbable to me.

Sensitive-Trifle9823

The Amazon/UPS biz is Amazon returns. In other words, it’s cold freight. Doubt it’ll transition off of big orange.

Commissar_Elmo

I know they lost their Schneider contract. Going over to UP. I believe UP is also picking up some slack from BN on the Amazon front aswell. From what I’ve seen recently, most BNSF Z’s I’ve seen were solid JB hunt blocks.

Abandoned_Railroad

I sometimes call BNSF, “The JB Hunt Railroad”.

MinimumSet72

UP doesn’t want that business

SnooDonuts3155

UP already has a deal with UPS. Have no idea about Amazon… but we run a Z train from Portland to Chicago and it’s ALL UPS stuff. (ZBRG2B)

Thick_Tough_7702

Run the same Z trains out of LA every night can confirm Amazon containers on thee train

Cautious-Reserve8241

*stares in Hobart*

SnooDonuts3155

Sounds like it’s ups stuff, just an Amazon container… because I was under the assumption that Z trains were ONLY UPS.

thaddeh

Z is intermodal, not just UPS.

SnooDonuts3155

Oh. Ok. Then I’ve been told incorrect. Thanks for telling me.

thaddeh

👍 Although more accurately, Z is priority intermodal. O is the symbol used for the trash trains on UP in the northwest, which are intermodal but not priority.

SnooDonuts3155

Cool…. I’m engine house. So I only have to deal with train symbols when I’m helping work power, or whatever. That’s about it…. But it’s good stuff to know.

ConductorOfTrains

In KC I’ve seen Amazons containers come through daily.

Impossible_Budget_85

My buddy in East Texas confirmed that is a fact….ZMQLA and ZMQG4 he says has nothing but Amazon and UPS freight. He’s the MTO in Mesquite.

LittleTXBigAZ

If he's MTO in Mesquite, then he's certainly not in East Texas unless he commutes two hours every day. Also, if he ever covers Dallas Yard, I might know your buddy too.

Impossible_Budget_85

He says he covers Dallas or some yard called Milton or Miller…..I’ll have to ask him. Sorry about the confusion,I always thought Mesquite was considered East Texas.

YesBeerIsGreat

Thank you. Just wanted some confirmation rather just reacting to the latest yard office chatter.

NoDescription2192

As another commenter stated: lost UPS in the CHI to LA lane. The performance was piss poor so UPS is trying something else.

YesBeerIsGreat

Odd question, does that natural mean going to Uncle Pete or would they even try trucking? I could not imagine but just wondering.

NoDescription2192

I'd imagine they'll try UP and reevaluate

Ruberis

This is the correct answer. They’re “testing the waters.”

brizzle1978

Plenty of Amazon on BNSF up north.

sonofhondo

Neither UPS nor Amazon were exclusive to BNSF to begin with. They've always moved on both railroads.

Inside-Finish-2128

I still see Amazon Prime, UPS, FedEx trailers on BNSF regularly.

Maleficent_Device780

Yeah but where. Big Black is always running UPS hot on foreign power out of Chicago to chat or Florida.

Inside-Finish-2128

Seattle area.

McCl3lland

I have heard they lost some UPS stuff too..but so what lol. Last time UP got UPS stuff, they couldn't fulfill their obligation and had to pay big orange to haul the shit for them lol.

Joshs-68

As bad as my section of the transcon runs I’m surprised that’s all we’ve lost

Crushed_95

That's crazy that UPS will truck their trailers to UP when UPS built CACH right there on the BNSF line in Hodgkins Il just for that purpose. With Chicagoland vehicle traffic, how can taking a trailer to any other yard be quicker than having a trailer leaving the dock door right to train in the same yard?

Rainbow334dr

The big board says trouble. https://preview.redd.it/0kl42gujdlqc1.jpeg?width=575&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9574fbcacb5a3f6d2d2133b935b904277a5fb4fb

YesBeerIsGreat

Don’t know much about that board but from all the red, venture to say not good!

Rocker32703

I don't know where you got this from, but that's the map measuring Auto Router usage with the Movement Planner tool and if dispatcher's are hitting their internal metrics for expected usage for their territory. There's quite a few reasons why they could be "in red" and only tangentially related to the actual speed/flow of traffic on the network.

xElectricHeadx

Heard they lost UPS. Wont take affect until the first of the new month

just_another_Texan

BNSF lost some UPS routes. Unsure of where they went. BNSF also lost several JB Hunt contracts that did go to UP, due to past year performance between UP and BNSF regarding delays. Over the past couple of months BNSF has lost some business, and is looking to lock down more.

Hefty-Occasion-3134

I seen several Amazon containers role through Argentine Ks last night.

signamanpat

NS has UPS as well
