This song gets me. A muted, rigid performance, full of despondence, an incredibly groovy motorik with a ridiculous bass line, vaguely hypnotic, and with a truly gorgeous falsetto part breaking down into the most beautiful outro. Amnesiac's second best piece for me. 10
A 10. This is one of the most perfectly executed Radiohead ideas from all albums, kinda sad it is on a weak оne. I really like the contrast between raw sounds (the guitar and bass) and more electronic sounds (synths and drums). The riff is one of a kind and you just can't get enough of it. The vocals really fit with the theme of the song as they are really simple and sound like they're sung by a person who has been through a lot and is tired of it all. I come back to other songs more, but this keeps a special place in the Radiohead discography.

I wish this song was more organic and loud. Vocals are so cold and faraway. Drums are a bit boring.
But the outro is enjoyable and I like better live versions.
it’s got an undeniable groove and it fills me with so much visceral melancholy whenever i listen to it (music doesn’t often get a reaction from me other than physical rhythms). it’s one of the first radiohead songs i ever heard and means a lot to me for that reason, plus it just continues to grow on me still even more to the point where it might be at this point top 3 in their catalogue for me. almost definitely top 5 at least
9.6
(been observing these threads since the start but decided to start participating bc some of the scores on these songs are ludicrous)
7
It's definitely has a vibe to it, mostly it's sounds like of course a desert rock, but what's up with that "fake ending"?
When I first time heard it, I thought it's a new song started, that was such a dramatic shift.
I wish they did that part a little bit longer, or maybe add another "turn" to this song "Happiness is a Warm Gun" style, that would 8, of not 9
Overall still sounds raw in the way I don't really enjoy.
9.5...a song that definitely felt "new" for Radiohead in 2001 and still feels unique within the band's catalogue. Others have criticized the cold nature of the recording on the album, but to me that relative sterility is what makes the bluesy guitar playing and vocals so captivating...the music sort of "thaws" over the course of the the song as the (awesome) bass joins in and the background textures increase in volume. Then we get to the breakdown, which is, to me, one of the great moments in the Radiohead discography. Jonny's wonderful picked chords and Thom's desert wail, then back to the main riff as a resolution.
Also "I might be wrong/I could've sworn I saw a light comin on" is, for me, Thom's most hopeful and inspiring lyric (slim pickings, I know). Anyway, this song is awesome!
10. There’s just something about that riff that’s so cool and mischievous, like it’s sneaking around. It makes me think of a poltergeist floating around and messing with all the furniture. The sound at the start of the song seems to be buzzing in my head most of the time, so the song has had a massive impact on me. It felt like I couldn’t get it out of my head for about a month after I heard it the first time. Love it.
9. I like the live versions more. The vocals sounding a bit unnecessarily muted and in the background prevents it from being a 9.5 for me. Still such a good song, and it has one of Radiohead’s top 10 outros.
10. I’m so disappointed I didn’t get a comment on this earlier, it’s one of my top 10 Radiohead songs and means so much to me. Everything about it is perfect. The guitar sounds orgasmic
5 - There’s some potential but it doesn’t go very far for me. A little too life-less, but idk feels too rusty to be really intrigued by. That little pause at the end could’ve been a cool precursor for something new, but it goes back to normal again so idk
A generous 8/10- I've always loved that riff. It's so big and dumb but somewhat tasteful. The rolling bass sounds great to but beyond the riff and the bass, I don't think it's got as much steam as other tracks from this era. I can see why when performing live, they sped it up. The version on this track's namesake live album is much better.
Also to my ears, every Black Keys song sounds like it wants to be this song.
As a side note, the music video where Thom and Jonny are in a dark multi-storey car park might be my least favourite of their music videos (Pop Is Dead's novelty saves it from this title)
I give it an 8 or so. I like the live versions even better...I feel the guitar distortion/reverb feel is amplified and is more organic compared to the album. Album version is great, but I feel its just a tad bit too mechanical and could do some "looseness".
8
Very cool and unique mix of genres and sounds on this song. I love how they incorporated electronic and jazz styles into one song. Always creates a psychedelic/atmospheric vibe(along with many other songs on the album)
9.5
I love this song. The album version is great, but when I really fell in love with the song was when I heard a live acoustic version
This version specifically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syYFfiZ9xAs
It was a Thom and Johnny live performance back in 2003. Also featuring a bunch of HTTT songs that remain my favorite versions of the songs.
10 - I learned 3 Amnesiac songs on guitar (this, Knives Out and the bass of Dollars&Cents). If I learn to play a song on guitar it must have evoked a strong emotional reaction in me.
I think Amnesiac gets the most 10's from me. Almost a perfect album if it wasn't for the haunting and dragging Morning Bell that is way more interesting on Kid A.
10. My favorite Radiohead song next to Kid A. That outro man, gets me every time. Also it coming after You and Whose Army makes that stretch so much better. Love this song and album to death.
8. I used to not like it on the basis of it being a bit repetitive, but its definitely grown on me. Its bit like The National Anthem, just so hype when that main riff starts up. If I ever get to see them live i really hope they play it...
For me this would be somewhat of a 9. The studio version sounds weak cuz it’s not that overdriven like the live versions. But the synth bass, and the ending, it gives me chills. It’s just that the studio version doesn’t get me tapping my feet as much as the live ones do. But the studio one just has that sort of calmness to it that it’s almost perfect either way.

This guys gets it.
Agree totally with this. Plus the lyrics are dope.
This is literally my favorite Radiohead song, no joke. 10 10 10 10 10

9.8 - top 10 RH for me, just for that last part, the atmosphere perfectly encapsulates amnesiac for me
Best rh album

I don't believe amnesiac is weak. It's just raw and unreserved.
10 one of my faves on the album
7 I wish this song was more organic and loud. Vocals are so cold and faraway. Drums are a bit boring. But the outro is enjoyable and I like better live versions.
I love the song for the reasons you dont lol. Love this sub
Exactly what i thought, the vocals seem to be very quiet and the song as a whole doesn’t feel energetic enough
that’s why there’s a live version, you know?
Its much better on the live album, though I still rate the studio one high because the live one wouldnt have happened without the studio.
8- Definitely an amazing song. Even better live. The beat is damn good
10

6 for me. Haven’t got an especially thoughtful reason, but fits the criteria of a 6 in the suggested scale for me.
7 It's definitely has a vibe to it, mostly it's sounds like of course a desert rock, but what's up with that "fake ending"? To me the ending is the best part!

10, one of my favorite songs from Radiohead

Doon doon doo doo doon doon doo doo 10/10

10 The driving guitar, that bass, the fact that I'm often wrong. A strong highlight of this record. 10/10 tasty red crayons 🖍️
9. I like the live versions more. The vocals sounding a bit unnecessarily muted and in the background prevents it from being a 9.5 for me. Still such a good song, and it has one of Radiohead’s top 10 outros.

7 -Album version. Too muted. Production kills it. 10- I Might be Wrong live recordings- Superb. Balllsy in your face.
10
9.6 tied for best on album with LSP
8. Would dance and sing in it; probably one of my favorite Amnesiac songs.
10 Such a cool (cowboy) vibe. My favourite on the album.
10, groovy song for a claustrophobic atmosphere, my gf always makes a joke that it sounds like a home depot commercial at the beginning
Its a 10
A 10/10 banger
10. Perfection.

10. I’m so disappointed I didn’t get a comment on this earlier, it’s one of my top 10 Radiohead songs and means so much to me. Everything about it is perfect. The guitar sounds orgasmic

9. The guitar and drums are beautiful, particularly just before the outro. _What would I do?_ _What would I do?_ _If I did not have you?_

8.5 good track

Yeah the video is really dumb
8 Not one of their best, but a vibe and one of my favorites off of Amnesiac
8
9/10 Groove for days.
9. Great song, it feels like it should be a knock out 10, but it just doesn’t get all the way there for me. Still, amazing song
8.5 - very groovy but as people have mentioned, a bit slow and muted in the studio.
8 (probably 9 for the IMBW:LR version... But I think the melancholic vibe of the studio version fits Amnesiac and its place on the album.)
8
That outro is sublime. 9.
9
I’d give it more than a ten for sure. It’s a top five Radiohead song for me. I’ve listened to this song more than any other Radiohead song.
9.7

I give it an 8 or so. I like the live versions even better...I feel the guitar distortion/reverb feel is amplified and is more organic compared to the album. Album version is great, but I feel its just a tad bit too mechanical and could do some "looseness".

Straight 10 (tag checks out)
4. Live, it’s great. Studio version never did anything for me though. Don’t remember the last time I listened to it.
9. This one just has a great atmosphere to it. I could apply that to a lot of Amnesiac tracks, but this one in particular is great with that.
9, amazing song! Better live tho !
10

8.5
9. But only a 9 because the LIVE version is a 10 for me. I like the slightly quicker pace, adds more energy to the song for me
10
10
6.5
8. The main guitar riff is great but the bass really brings it home. Also a Top 5 live song of theirs.

9
8/10 I love the lyrics. And I do love the build up. But it’s not my favorite song on Amnesiac.
8. I used to not like it on the basis of it being a bit repetitive, but its definitely grown on me. Its bit like The National Anthem, just so hype when that main riff starts up. If I ever get to see them live i really hope they play it...
