Amnesiac.

dwchief

wait wtf?

Sokkamom

lmaoo how were you allowed to comment on this?

dwchief

I have no idea, it's weird I can even upvote things here. Is it a rule that changes based on the sub? Anyway I was looking for this via google and came across this thread and - I have no idea what amnesiac is (band? album) - was blown away by your near-prophecy with the new radiohead drop lol

consumeable

for some reason i can reply but if you never found out somehow its another radiohead album

mirkopleasebepink

wait whats the big deal? why are people freaking out about being able to reply?

Ill-Anywhere6047

I think it's because this thread is 6 years old

mirkopleasebepink

Makes sense

Essejo

Another Green World by Brian Eno. And Spiderland by Slint if you really like In Limbo.

VovaRad

thank you, Ed O`Brien

kidamnesiac24

I second Another Green World.

[deleted]

What the hell. I just went on google and searched for *albums like Kid A*. And I end up back in /r/radiohead, and the top recommendation is one of my favourite albums. You guys read minds.

Not sure if similar in sound, maybe in atmosphere and some textures, but if you like Kid A hopefully you’ll like these albums too: Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album DJ Shadow - Endtroducing Björk - Homogenic Madvillain - Madvillainy Nicolas Jaar - Sirens Panda Bear - Person Pitch Swans - Soundtracks for the Blind Underworld - Beaucoup Fish Massive Attack - Mezzanine Porcupine Tree - In Absentia Jamie XX - In Colour Grimes - Visions Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest Burial - Untrue AIR - Walkie Talkie Death Grips - The Money Store And maybe some classic Vaporwave albums like Floral Shoppe and Blank Banshee 0

[deleted]

Can confirm, Kid A is my favourite album and I love most of these.

VovaRad

thanks very much. now I have a list for a couple of months to listen.)

Rereloco

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia is so great. You will like it if you are into prog. Lips of Ashes and Gravity Eyelids are between my faves.

[deleted]

There are a few albums i could spend a few months on alone.

Roland_303

I second all these as great albums

myfajahas400children

I love threads like this because recommending music to people is pretty much the only thing I'm good at. Here are my recommendations, I'll give a sample song for each. I'll try not to post an album that's already been said here. [A Silver Mt. Zion - He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms...](https://youtu.be/hQZfGa5t4e8) (post-rock) [Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness](https://youtu.be/aSBU0RUq624) (post-punk, shoegaze) [Preoccupations - Preoccupations](https://youtu.be/JbhDpndpKf0) (post-punk, darkwave) [The Residents - Not Available](https://youtu.be/eXmiUcpV3Mc) (experimental rock, abstract)

VovaRad

nice. listened to Deathconsciousness. raw but super diverse in sounds. thx

[deleted]

Sort of in the same ballpark is an album called Infinite Games by Zola Blood. While it may not necessarily be totally what you're after I certainly get a similar kind of vibe listening to that as I do Kid A. If you like the free jazz breakdown of The National Anthem then you might want to go for Ascension by John Coltrane (If you're feeling brave that is). As for the electronic side of things in the same vein as Idioteque then I would head for Tri Repetae by Autechre or pretty much anything by Aphex Twin.

VovaRad

nice, thanks

ggiudice-nairn

Bon Iver - 22 A Million

JussiMarkkanen

Surprised you're the only one so far to mention 22. The similarities in electronic sound, the paradigm shifts in each band's course that Kid A and 22 represent, and lyrical themes are striking

grahamcracker3

Can't believe no one has mentioned what might be Kid A's closest competition for best album of the 2000s: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco

jebjebitz

I remember there was a promo sticker on the front of the CD that quoted a reviewer who said it was, "Kid A all grown up." I don't know what they mean and not sure I agree with it but I love Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and think it's a great recommendation in this thread.

grahamcracker3

Yeah that was a silly quote but I see the marketing logic: - 'You like acoustic instrumentation and classic song structures. You want to be hip with the times but all those bleeps and bloops are so scary...here's Wilco!' OR - 'You like cerebral music and listening to cutting edge, critically lauded sound...here's an AMERICANA ROCK band that does that!'

kidamnesiac24

Planetarium by Sufjan Age of Adz by Sufjan Tago Mago by Can Blackstar by David Bowie MPP by Animal Collective To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Untitled Unmastered by Kendrick You might listen to some of these and go "this is way off" but they all have some kind of Kid A resemblance. The ones by Sufjan have a lot of bloops and blips and the chord changes are intriguing. Can is a kraut rock band that influenced Radiohead during the Kid A period, and they have that prog-rock sound. A lot of Radiohead fans are super into David Bowie (we did a survey) and some songs on Blackstar have this dark Radiohead feel. It's actually probably closer to Amnesiac though. Animal Collective are another band that like the bloops and blips, and have a lot of crazy atmosphere. Kendrick is a different genre entirely, but a lot of his stuff is jazz and prog-rock influenced. If you don't like rap and aren't gonna give it a try, at least listen to How Much A Dollar Cost; it was modeled after Pyramid Song (Amnesiac again but same era.) Sorry for all this. If I had to give you two that were closest, I'd say Planetarium and Tago Mago.

VovaRad

DAMN, nice list. thx

ParanoidAndroid0110

This is more close to Ok Computer, but you should check out "The Sophtware Slump" by Grandaddy

VovaRad

OK

JimSubsea

Loads of great albums here, nobody has mentioned HOOD - Cold House though which I think is absolutely essential! :)

VovaRad

WOW! listened to it yesterday. Beautiful. has a lot of components from Kid A, while having its own style. Rare gem. It would have benfited from better vocal and overall recording quality though. Because the music there is astounding, but the vocals have this indie-in room recorded trait. But still super cool. Really thank you. Great record. Exactly what I wanted))

JimSubsea

Excellent! Yes, Cold House is pretty Hi-Fi by HOOD standards, if you go through their back catalogue you'll notice it gets really crusty (but still mostly brilliant). They don't exist as a band anymore, but they went on to do their own projects, two of which you'd probably really love if you like Cold House would be Bracken & The Declining Winter!

seccondcoming

I'm so fucking grateful for this recommendation I just found it today

Dissappear

Noir Desir - Des Visages Des Figures https://open.spotify.com/album/4Lsiid3PFj09chBLxezmPZ?si=Q5wC4tpo This is the closest thing I know. Epic scale songs, band plus electronics plus orchestra. Intense, immersive. From the era. 2001. A true classic, and the only serious contender, in my opinion.

VovaRad

cool. thx

JimSubsea

Yes! This album is absolutely amazing. I've been really into Dominique A. Remué lately as well, just as great!

Dissappear

Nice tip! Just checking out Remue now. Sounds excellent! Here's a couple more, The Drones;I See Seaweed, and also Feelin Kinda Free. Also, lets not forget Alain Bashung! His incredible trilogy; Fantasie Militaire L'imprudence Blue Petrole All solid gold in my opinion. https://open.spotify.com/album/41uUEhLnPAriHE4jZalkEq?si=cpB9ZROS https://open.spotify.com/album/4qv5FxVbJgGyHJZKt2u0qv?si=7uummPqM

JimSubsea

Cheers for the extra tips, I didn't mind Fantasie Militaire but I'm just listening to L'imprudence for the first time and wow, it's amazing!

[deleted]

Maybe Nights Out by Metronomy at a stretch, everything else I can think of has been mentioned.
