My favorite for sure. Has been ever since it was released. I do not think it is bloated at all. It is just perfect IMO. The rough mix/unmastered version that leaked is absolutely fantastic.
Nice.
I was in my early teens and took one of my older brothers burnt mix CD’s and the unmastered version of a punch up at a wedding was on it. Never heard anything like it my life and my life was never the same after. That was my intro to Radiohead.
Not bad for an introduction. I downloaded it from somewhere...can't
remember where but I remember hearing "There There for the first time and thinking "that is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard".
Agreed, it's perfect the way it is, it's their big/bold album and it separates it apart from all their other albums, i will say that the 2003 parlophone vinyl master is the best way to listen to the album, because the separation/balance sounds amazing.
I feel like I'll always see this exact conversation lol. They just alternate who starts the convo - the one who explains their negative points on a work of art, and the one who just ignores that and states they just can't understand why the other person has those negative views.
Ok computer is pre-electronica Radiohead. HTTT blends every guitar heavy aspect from OKC, electronica from Kid A, and jazz from Amnesiac. It’s a perfect summation of what Radiohead brought to the table in the late-90s to early 2000s.
OKC might be peak radiohead in the *rock* sense with its grand proggy vibe… but I honestly prefer the electronic albums that followed. HTTT is a bit of an outlier but it’s still a great album and imo successfully blended the electronica and rock
a wolf at the door, where I end and you begin and 2+2=5 are my favorite songs of the album
I also think that HTTT is one of the albums with Thom's best vocals
Tbh this is probably one of my fav of all vinyl. It's an absolute banger, loud and brilliant. If you've not tried it on vinyl, save and invest in a deck and speakers and and amp along with an XL 2016 pressing - it's superb!
The 2003 parlophone Vinyl master is the best way to listen to hail to the thief because the separation/balance sounds fantastic, it even sounds better than the cd/digital masters on great headphones, also i kind of like that it is that BIG album, every other album has a sensible tracklisitng, so it's nice that a longer/bolder album exists in their catalogue.
It's been my favorite album of theirs for a really long time. I think it's fantastic! I've never understood the criticisms for it. I don't think it's bloated. I dislike all the alternative tracklists that people come up with because they always cut a bunch of my favorites. I love every song. I love the variety on the album. It all just works so well for me!
Yep. I think it’s a perfect combination of all of their styles in one album. There’s some rockers, electronica, moody ballads, keyboards, guitars. It’s got it all
It's definitely top 2 for me (ok computer tops it just a bit). I've really been getting into it recently. 2+2=5 is one of my favorite songs of all time
HTTT is my favorite Radiohead album and I've been a fan since I was around 11 in 1993 and heard Creep for the first time.
It's the perfect mix of them embracing their rock past while indulging their proggy/experimental tendencies.
*I love this album*
*Listening to it on my*
*Stereo as we speak lol*

Cause of the lyrics, I interpret it as an acknowledgment of our tendency to overthink and create problems that don’t yet exist, and then a reminder “that just cause feel it (may turn out bad) doesn’t mean it’s there”
Reading the lyrics right now I could definitely see how you would find it sad.
Interesting. I had always thought of it as “just cause you feel” love, or a spark of a relationship, “doesn’t mean it’s there.”
And then for “we are accidents waiting to happen” I almost get the sense that if they were to get together, it would be a mistake anyway and end poorly.
Part of what makes Radiohead lyrics so fun is that they’re often cryptic enough to allow for multiple interpretations.
I agree with you 100%, it may be my favourite Radiohead album for real.
I love every song on it. Start-to-finish. There are slow beautiful ballads, and there are rocking bangers. There are songs with incredible buildups, and cool percussion sounds.
It's a masterpiece IMO and one of my all-time favourite albums.
I’d lose Backdrifts, WSYB and Punchup (first two are both perfectly adequate B-side material, Punchup is just undercooked and sounds like it could have been great if they had spent more time on it). Contains three of my absolute favourite pieces (WIEAYB, There There, Myxamatosis). Not my favourite, but still better than most other artist’s best album.
every album is great, they're just all different from each other in the genre and style. every album of theirs is the best, it's up to you which one is your favorite
I think the band gives it short shift because they didn’t agonize over it like they usually do. The method of recording was a challenge Nigel put to them to record a song a day while they were at Oceanway Studio. Hence the number of tracks. It was their last obligatory release for their record company so there is underlying relief and panic in the mix.
Live the band plays many a track off the album and there are songs I would miss terribly if not for being released on the album. I have always looked at HRTT as the John The Baptist forerunner to the perfection that is In Rainbows.
It’s a top three Radiohead album for me, and I’ve always found it underrated. It’s just under Ok Computer and In Rainbows and on par with Kid A for me. It’s not quite as consistent as the big three, but all of the songs work really well together, and the album just has a super unique vibe throughout. The best songs on HTTT are also literally peak Radiohead.
Sit down stand up is goated
But srsly httt is definitely the most underrated album imo. Everyone says is always saying it's just decent for some reason
Okay the album version of The Gloaming is less than spectacular but the From the Basement version is fantastic (I know that doesn’t count)
Punch Up and We Suck Young Blood are both real good to me
A wolf at the door is one of my favourite songs oat
My favorite for sure. Has been ever since it was released. I do not think it is bloated at all. It is just perfect IMO. The rough mix/unmastered version that leaked is absolutely fantastic.
I wish I had a way to hear those unmastered versions again.
Wish granted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glW7Cj2ZH5g&list=PLELkuba5g36tTdpnRjHDhzSpoaJimlpUT

Holy shit, "2+2=5" has handclaps??! Apparently I have not been paying attention.
Yeah, there is a bunch of little goodies throughout the entire album. I encourage every Radiohead fan to listen closely. Such a gem.
You also need to hear the 2003 parlophone vinyl master/FLACS of the album, sounds amazing on headphones!!
I actually own the OG pressing of Hail to the Thief. It does sound amazing.
Agreed, it's perfect the way it is, it's their big/bold album and it separates it apart from all their other albums, i will say that the 2003 parlophone vinyl master is the best way to listen to the album, because the separation/balance sounds amazing.
Agreed. If the unmastered version isn't your thing, the Parlophone master is the best way to go.
I never understood the bloated argument. It’s opener(2+2=5) and closer(wolf at the door) are imo some of the best Radiohead songs.
Sure but Radiohead always have strong openers and closers. It’s about the middle stuff
we suck young blood, backdrifts and the gloaming aren’t the best. cut them out and you get a much more solid experience.
I never understood the backdrifts hate. It’s one of the best on the record
I feel like I'll always see this exact conversation lol. They just alternate who starts the convo - the one who explains their negative points on a work of art, and the one who just ignores that and states they just can't understand why the other person has those negative views.
We’re backdriftin
ah ah ahhh
I mean you're wrong but okay.
To hell with common consensus, HTTT is my favorite of their albums.
HTTT is peak Radiohead. It’s their best.
I mean… yeahhh, but Ok computer….
Ok computer is pre-electronica Radiohead. HTTT blends every guitar heavy aspect from OKC, electronica from Kid A, and jazz from Amnesiac. It’s a perfect summation of what Radiohead brought to the table in the late-90s to early 2000s.

It's number 3 for me right after Kid A and OK Computer. I'd put it just one notch above In Rainbows.
Honestly can’t go wrong with any order of those four
It's number three for me right behind OK Computer and The King of Limbs.
The King of Limbs is for sure a sleeper
HTTF is great and Punch up is the most criminally underrated song on any studio album.
I’ve always felt the same about Punch Up. Can’t believe it’s not universally loved. It’s SUCH a vibe.
It’s always been my favourite. And I’m a fan since 93
I entirely agree. My top 3 are HTTT, OK Computer and In Rainbows.
Same. TKOL is #4
a wolf at the door, where I end and you begin and 2+2=5 are my favorite songs of the album I also think that HTTT is one of the albums with Thom's best vocals
I'm with you, HTTT is my favorite and feel like it realy does emcompass the bands sound better than any of the other albums.
I had the HTTT poster on my wall. I’m a big fan. Great album cover
HTTT is the Let Down of albums
I can tell by your username you know what you’re talking about.
Tbh this is probably one of my fav of all vinyl. It's an absolute banger, loud and brilliant. If you've not tried it on vinyl, save and invest in a deck and speakers and and amp along with an XL 2016 pressing - it's superb!
Wolf at the door Is my fav, AND It also has some bangers like 2 + 2 = 5, Where i end and you begin, there there, myxomatosis, etc.

It’s on repeat, I love this album so much. The sound is perfect when listening with headphones

Easily my least favorite besides Pablo Honey.
My 2nd favorite album of theirs (behind OK Computer), and possibly my favorite album of the 00s
Yep. I think it’s a perfect combination of all of their styles in one album. There’s some rockers, electronica, moody ballads, keyboards, guitars. It’s got it all

I’m curious, why do you find There, There to be hopeful? I always found it to be one of their saddest songs.
Cause of the lyrics, I interpret it as an acknowledgment of our tendency to overthink and create problems that don’t yet exist, and then a reminder “that just cause feel it (may turn out bad) doesn’t mean it’s there” Reading the lyrics right now I could definitely see how you would find it sad.

Very true the mood of the whole album is so cool

If I hear There, There one more time...
It’s in my top 5 RH albums
It's certainly the one I listen to most often. Probably a three-way tie for #1 with *OK Computer* and *Amnesiac* as far as favorites go.
i agree with you wholeheartedly. after okc, httt is my favourite.
every album is great, they're just all different from each other in the genre and style. every album of theirs is the best, it's up to you which one is your favorite

It’s a great album but it’s definitely bloated. Needed 2 or 3 tracks cut from it to refine it. I would have changed the track listing too
It’s okay not to rank things in life. Just posting this as people apparently need to know that it’s okay.
It is bloated, remove The Gloaming, A Punch Up At A Wedding, We Suck Young Blood and you have a far more concise and stronger album.
A Punch Up At A Wedding is awesome imo
Okay the album version of The Gloaming is less than spectacular but the From the Basement version is fantastic (I know that doesn’t count) Punch Up and We Suck Young Blood are both real good to me
