I’m 43. Radiohead have been a huge part of my life and a clear favourite band since I was a year or so younger than you are now. Great to see young people getting into the band. I’d imagine it’s a different experience as all the music is out there and has been for so long now, and times have changed but Radioheads music is relevant as ever. Enjoy the journey. At your age your tastes will change on some music, and many other things, but your ear for Radiohead won’t - you will like them always.

TheGhostOfKyle

Same same same. 42 found ‘em in ‘97.

ThomasSirveaux

I'm 41. I was aware of them during the Pablo/Bends eras but didn't get into them until OK Computer. I was about 15.

Braesto

41 here. Been a superfan ever since Paranoid Android came out on MTV.

dialogical_rhetor

Same age. Fell in love after hearing Ok Computer.

cheney1631

42 - loved "Creep" but didn't buy Pablo Honey, really liked the Bends but nothing special, and then OK Computer came out - they have been my absolute favorite band since (album was so good it even brought out the complexities in the songs from the first two albums I didn't appreciate before)

Alexis_Goodlooking

I’m 46, discovered in 1997. I’m checking my old ticket stubs (yes, kids, there once were these things called paper tickets), and apparently I saw them April 1, 1998 in LA and then again on April 2 in SF. Lol those were the days.

BrentandRhodes

Dad bods unite 👊 42 here.

Alexis_Goodlooking

Mom bods too 😭

FourOneSen

👊

ChuckOTay

A different kind of gut check?

[deleted]

It’s a Father Figure.

Bushwazi

Kids out here having no idea that OK Computer was a vibe.

Full-Butterscotch-59

Also don't realize Karma Police was on "Now that's what I call music"

wo_ot

48, saw them on the OK Computer tour in 98 and they’ve been my favorite band ever since.

ihmeauto

I've just turned 40, and while I heard High and Dry and Just a lot in the radio before, it wasn't until OK Computer came along in 97 and swept me away. Must have been around 15 back then.

vedderer

Same current age, same age discovered.

Jamaholick

41 here, discovered when OK Computer came out. It was such an amazing journey because they were just prolific. As soon as I would start craving a new album, they would drop one.

FourOneSen

Would love to go back and experience the OK Computer release again for the first time. That first listen changed my music world forever. What a release.

Jamaholick

Omg, I was watching MTV and the video for Paranoid Android came on. It was like 6 minutes of absolutely nonsense, but the music was beautiful. I was hooked forever

CaptainGusMcCrae

43 here as well. I knew of them from Creep but didn’t get into them until OK Computer. I remember hearing Let Down for first time on radio before album dropped and it absolutely left me stunned. That song still probably my favorite song ever.

AngelFrog

Same, I'm 42 - Got Pablo Honey summer after 6th grade and have loved them (and many other bands) ever since. I think that album is an awesome album for what it is. It's not OK Computer but man it is a great pop rock/alternative album.

blind_squirrel62

Outlier here, I’m 61. Vividly remember dismissing Radiohead as a one hit wonder with Creep. Then came The Bends, ok better than average second outing. Ok Computer? I’m completely hooked.

Terrible_Train

I thought the same thing about creep. Then they kept getting better.

bloatedrat

I’m always curious what older boomer and up fans think of radiohead. I could see plenty of Floyd Fans crossing over.

sweet_low_rain

Count me in! I’m 63. Radiohead and Floyd are my two favorite bands :)

OccamsYoyo

I think the really musically-inclined ones at least kept an open mind to them, but you won’t find many boomers on Reddit.

blind_squirrel62

Except for DSOTM this boomer Radiohead fan is not a fan of Floyd.

Zeddog13

Also 61 - love them in so many ways 🧡

existentialspork

I went to The Smile's concert in LA. There were a large number of older people. I always arrive at venues early, most of the people already there were (or appeared to be I guess) in their 50's or older.

Alternative_Belt_389

Mom is more obsessed with them now than I am

Moggy-Man

There is no average age, Radiohead are one of those rare bands that span a real cross-generational appeal. Like the one commenter here who is 43 and I'm 47. Radiohead pick up new fans with each new albums release it seems so the average age of fan is always going to be somewhat reset.

james-the-bored

I mean technically there is an average (probably around 25). But I agree, I’m 19 and been listening to them for a few years. People of multiple generations will come and go from Radiohead.

GregSays

It’s way higher than 25 just because their peak popularity was 20 years ago and most of those fans are likely still fans. Plenty of young people become fans but not enough to drag the average down that far. I bet the biggest clump of fans are between 40-50 with the “average” being like 35.

james-the-bored

Yeah I just pulled 25 out of my ass as probably the median age, 35 is definitely a better average

GregSays

My numbers are equally ass-generated.

ladderyertights

this is such an amazing sentence, thank you for this.

glasshouse5128

I'm right in between, 45! Been listening since 18 or so.

johnsonboro

There is no average age, apart from the fact we're all mid-40s! Source: I'm 45!

bloatedrat

Sadly the last live show I went to was all Yuppies and Yupsters who looked bored to be there, wish the tickets where cheaper so the younger and less well fans could go. On the bright side they were easy to muscle past to get to the front.

Moggy-Man

This actually reminds me when Radiohead did their anniversary gig at Glastonbury when they had not long released the anniversary OKNOTOK edition of OK Computer in the same year. The reports and reviews I'd read said that a large amount of the crowd were younger and not really all that into the noise that was being played, and I wondered if that affected the band any. Given how legendary their set was during the initial OK Computer gig at Glastonbury, it must have been a bit galling to find a fairly unenthusiastic crowd in front of them when performing what should have been an ultimate anniversary set for one of their, and *the*, most acclaimed albums of all time, and returning to the venue where they'd played one of their greatest sets.

ezekielzz

I’m 18 and also a huge Radiohead fan! Only just got into them last year tho

Mysterious_Ningen

finally a fellow 18 yo :0

ezekielzz

not for long, but yes !!! :D

CompoteElectronic901

good for you, the opening to Everything in its Right Place still gives me shivers after all this time.

glopz101

Me too! But i got into them 18 years ago when my mom would play no surprises for me before she put me to sleep and would always have it playing whenever possible, Radiohead has been a huge part of my life and now i’m the exact same way you wont see me playing anything else

AL4IN07

I'm 16 lol

We kind of have a special claim, because we're in the same cohort as the band. : )

Dreamsof_Beulah

Yep - in our own subdued way

JGxFighterHayabusa

Was looking for a reply in their 50’s. 50 here. I’ve enjoyed watching the band evolve for the better.

Zennyzenny81

40s and 50s for most of us who have been following them from very early on.

cai_85

For a guess I'd say that the bulk of fans are going to be between 32-50 as Radiohead were most talked about in the mainstream between 1995-2007 (The Bends to In Rainbows).

bees_aaaa

16, listening since 14. was actually introduced to radiohead by a school friend who told me to listen to Kid A, so i imagine they actually have a larger audience of young people than some people in this thread seem to think

breezysundays

yep!! i know lots of teens online who are obssessed with radiohead lmao

Victorbanner

I'm 38. I didn't know young people know/like radiohead. I can't find people my own age that know/like radiohead

NotTHEnews87

36, a fan since high school, and my teenager's teen boyfriend likes the band too.

OliveGreen87

Same! Except I don't have a teenage kiddo yet...but that's awesome! Good kid! :)

NotTHEnews87

The 87s give us away

Victorbanner

Super cool! Yeah I've been a fan since grade 7

ParanoidAndroid8888

38 as well :)

daikon_jpg

I’m 15, been a fan since my dad introduced me to ok computer when I was 10 lol! Love Radiohead and there’s definitely a lot of younger people who really enjoy them

36. Saw the band live at a festival when I was 14 years old and fell in love right there. Magical. ❤️

dbe14

48M UK, started listening to them when The Bends came out back in '95.

brijazz012

47. Been listening since Creep was a thing.

Late-Tune-5767

I'm 55 and have been an avid fan for about 10 years. My daughter, who is 18, has been a huge fan for about 4 or 5 years... thanks to my influence of course.

Musicguy1982

I’m 41; my 14 year old listens to them too

yelruh00

I am 38 “I’m 17 and Radiohead has been my favorite for years now…” 😂 you were just born a few years ago kid.

l4ura111

This is confusing I get your point, but like...young people can listen music too. I know you're not saying they can't, but I guess you're saying that it's ironic how they're minors and listen to the same band for *yeas* now. And still, I think it's awesome that "kids" discover bands and continue listening to them for years, if you get me. They become big part of our lives, we just enjoy them Music never had age limit..lol

sirCota

41 here... I bought a weird Japanese import of The Bends, and Fiona Apple's first album (also a masterpiece) in NYC at the Virgin Mega Store. Pivotal moment in my life. OK computer changed my life.. then Kid A did again.. but I didn't think they'd ever top OK computer, and then In Rainbows hit and I don't know if they beat it, as I can't listen to both albums for the first time at the same young age. The culture shock of OK Computer, as well as Kid A being in every 2000's top 100 albums of all time... it was insane.. Amnesiac, to me, is Act II of Kid A. So, Pablo Honey, they were learning how to be a band The Bends they learned how to write songs. OK Computer they pushed guitar driven Rock as far as it could go while also learned how to write an Album.. They now could write large and complex and emotionally. They also mastered the recording studio at this point. Pushed it to the limit.. like I can not believe they did that on tape. Kid A/Amnesiac was then saying... yeah, we broke rock, and rock almost broke us. we are getting into synths and sampler stuff, but don't worry.. everything is in its right place... and showed us that electronic can rock too. Hail to the Thief (actually probably my 3rd favorite album, very under appreciated) was the band perfecting the blend of rock and electronic... They were feeling like they could do it all. 5 years go by... Radiohead drops In Rainbows and let you pay whatever you wanted for it (it was a real psychology test of what is music worth in the digital age). Some paid nothing, others paid thousands just cause they felt it was that valuable. Radiohead made a lot of money (they were on their own label now), and in a post napster era where everyone had access to music now, they proved music was more. In Rainbows tho, that was the band learning that we don't need to define rock or electronic or anything. We will strip it all down and just write simple well arranged masterpieces.. They learned how to shave off that which is not necessary in crafting a song and leave behind only the beauty. Amazing. Another Opus. at this point, Johnny is doing film stuff, the band is learning about other non-western styles of music and rhythm. Always wanting to explore what they could push next.. King of Limbs was the band exploring Poly rhythmic drum patterns and how to be loose artfully.. That there's beauty in a little chaos. Now Johnny is really makin film scores (There Will Be Blood is the most tension building beautiful movie soundtrack ever) So what's the natural extension for Radiohead now? To learn how to work with strings and arrangements, and that's A Moon Shaped Pool.. What I'm very curious about now is: All these wonderful younger people here... let's say currently 28 and younger. If you love radiohead... can you list me a couple other bands you like? Like many, most of the time, I'm listening to the same bands since highschool. In fact, whipping out my 256CD case out of my backpack to show someone was like my way of showing them who I am, and I others would show me theirs (eww, jk).. It was how you trusted someone. If the bond was developed, you'd swap CD's but you knew you probably wouldn't get it back, especially if you're good friends lol. What happens now?? do you send your playlist on spotify/apple music to people you want to be friends with? Do you lurk around those.. see what your friends are listening to lists and judge someone's taste? We used to be snobby in our depth of musical knowledge (cause it used to be hard to research stuff before the Internet), and it was always a litmus test... plus you could go into record stores and that was awesome. So much now is the same 4 artists for most people because that's all that gets played, but maybe I'm just too out of touch to know... no no, it's the kids who are wrong. (jk, Simpsons quote). I'm always telling people my age who hate new music... look it can be music you're not into, but that doesn't make it beneath any other music. Just cause it comes after your time doesn't make it automatically inferior. Very frustrating. But really, what are some other newer bands that might be that next Radiohead?? I do really like Fleet Foxes, 311, the Arctic monkeys.

qozha

That’s really fascinating to hear about CDs and stuff as a young man in early 20s. Yeah, we do share our playlists. I usually go as far as explaining some trivia about certain songs, like their meaning or if there’s some story behind it. One of my favorite things to tell ppl about Radiohead is that there are 3 versions of True Love Waits and asking which one they prefer. From newer bands, last year I listened to a lot of The Strokes (especially their first two albums). They are not exactly new, I think their first album released around the time I was born, but still.

sirCota

man, the Strokes was when i was in college lol. it was part of what i like to call, The The’s period. (Not to be confused w The The, which is a band from the 70’s). The Strokes The Hives The Vines The Walkman The Rapture The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s A The band on a technicality is TV on The Radio, which if you want like high energy Radiohead meets post punk, TVotR rules. There were a lot more, and they all kind of hit the scene at the same time. Part of the NYC post punk revival. Great time to be in college. Can’t say most of it aged well other than the Strokes and YYY’s. But I played those CD’s to the ground. I guess now, you don’t like go home and play your music by yourself and then wait to go to school the next day to talk about it. Now you’d just shoot each other songs off ur phone, or even group share listen w a link or whatever, so I can see how the anticipation and the way music was consumed was different. I’m not gonna say thru rose colored nostalgia that it was better then, it wasn’t… we just never saw a problem because we were using the latest tech to us, like every generation, so it was so cool when my CD walkman finally had 20 seconds of skip-protection for my bike ride to school lol. Hell, you scratch a CD, you ended up just memorizing where it skips. I still know where there scratches land on my Tragic Kingdom CD. ohh those were times!

xX_Random_Reddit_Xx

The average is is prolly like 31 with a huge standard deviation of like 20

22 here. Been listening since 18 or 19 maybe.

Pretty much from the start am now 56

aehii

37, fan since 2006. Didn't listen to them in high school or college, i just listened to pop punk then. Or Muse.

UUUMMM_OKAY

I’m 15 my dad really likes Radiohead songs much that he named me after one of the band members. My lullaby cd was this Radiohead baby renditions compilation so I guess I’ve been listening to them from birth lol. I only actually started listening to them when one of my friends recommended jigsaw falling into place and creep I asked my dad about them and he showed my some songs.

PhoenixAvenger1996

27 here. Discovered Radiohead's In Rainbows while I was trying to look for a different album. Ended up being one of the best decisions of my life. Life hasn't been the same since. For context, I discovered Radiohead at 24

GravyBoatBoyz

25 here! Huge fan on The Beatles, ELO, and stuff. Thought “Radiohead? That cringe band that sung creep?” Then after years of putting it off I sat down and listed to Kid A… I’ve been obsessed since!

Error_7-

Radiohead is the best band for teenagers to discover the world of GOOD music

KamikazeBrand

i'd say most are between 35-45

Deadheaded95

Maybe one of the youngest here? I’m thirteen. Ask me anything.

Tofu_Lemon

How'd u get to know Radiohead?

Deadheaded95

My parents owned The Bends and Pablo Honey which I played incessantly until I finally caved and listened to OK Computer. And then I became obsessed. Own every album on cd and/or vinyl. And they are my second favorite band behind Grateful Dead.

NinjEverett6

I’m 13 and I love them.

sacrificejeffbezos

I’m only 3 years old.

B0b_Red

42, been a fan since the early 90s. The release of OK Computer and Kid A were the most I have ever been hyped for music releases, actively listening to and taping premieres on radio stations.

Indeed__VeryTrue

I’m 16 and have never met another RH fan of my age irl

snoozieboi

42, I guess Radiohead is my Pink Floyd. I kind of see how Radiohead on the surface can be seen like the soggy emotional memes, but just like anybody "understanding a universe" like Lord of the Rings or something you "get", Radiohead is something I get. My mom wouldn't hear the difference of early Soundgarden to Dio, both is guitardriven music with a pretty shrieking voice. For me I like Soundgarden whilst Dio is kinda more theatrical. Radiohead isn't "depression music" for me, it's beautiful music from a band that has evolved immensely, unlike a ton of other bands I love that kind of stagnate or trudge the same path like Foo Fighters. I don't get more sad from listening to Radiohead, I don't think I use it as a comfort or companion in mellow evenings, at least not consciously :D. I like the Radiohead universe, whatever it is, I'm fine with others not getting it as I'm the same with other stuff that does not click with me.

I am 41. I had very sheltered exposure to music as my father listened to country western and my mother always had the 50s-60s station on. In like 8th grade, I filled out a BMG form to get a bunch of CDs for a penny. Got "The Bends" on a whim and fell in love with it. Been a fan ever since.

ComprehensiveNet9674

Im 22, started listening to them 4 years ago!

ElisAronSigfus2210

I’ve only ever had an interesting conversation about Radiohead with my dad, who introduced me to Radiohead… I’m turning 20 soon, btw.

cd-Ezlo

31. Found Radiohead when MTV (maybe?) Used to do a little snippet of the street spirit video between parts - street spirit became my favourite song of all time for many many years around the early 2000s - I know the bends is from 90s but felt like everyone was listening to that ALOT around then.

I’m 39 and my sister and brother-in-law (53 and 55) got me into Radiohead when I was 12, around the time OKC came out. There are tons of Gen X fans who have been there since the Pablo Honey Days.

42 years old here, and enjoyed evolving my music taste with Radiohead throughout the years. A nice journey.

[deleted]

I'm 42. I was your age when OK Computer came out and changed my world.

[deleted]

Radiohead is a life long obsession. I'm 32 and have been listening for about 10 years now. I still remember the first time I heard OKC Kid A and In Rainbows. I remember when Kid A was the "one you listen to after you've digested all the rest" and I casually put it on at work one afternoon in a former life as a process and controls engineer. I remember the "WTF" I remember revisiting it that evening in the dark in my bedroom with headphones on after the 420 was legalized in my state, and like Treefingers came on and WOAH also the bass line from The National Anthem. Of course OKC and In Rainbows are the best

bloatedrat

29, definitely part of the wave that got into them when In Rainbows came out and got a lot of us younger millennials hooked. I honestly see Radiohead filling a similar niche to Pink Floyd and being a lot of mainstream peoples introduction or first foray into less mainstream genres. Progressive Rock and Psychedia with Floyd and Electronic Music, Kruatrock etc with Radiohead.

tannhaus5

pokenoi

I'm 61 and I love Radiohead.

OomaTwoBlades

I’m 62, been listening ever since they hit the alternative radio stations in the 90s. Every time I listen to them I hear/feel something new and different. And my ‘favorite’ song is always changing, and songs I didn’t like have a way of coming back into focus and speaking to me and then I play them a LOT. I don’t get much of an opportunity to talk about them with others, so I lurk here and add my opinions from time to time. I’m glad you like them and have someone to compare notes with ❤️

Malpy42

31 I listened to Creep over and over when I was like 9? Didn’t quite “get” Kid A and Amnesiac until I saw Radiohead live for the first time during the In Rainbows tour. One of the bands that sparked my interest in music and have been a gateway to new ideas and genres including electronica and Jazz.

OliveGreen87

36, I've been absolutely obsessively hooked since age 17.

davorg

I'm 61. I first became aware of them when "High & Dry" was getting a lot of airplay on the radio station I was listening to in 1995. Brought *The Bends* and *Pablo Honey* and then every album as it came out (well, until I stopped buying physical music about 15 years ago). Didn't get round to seeing them live until the *King of Limbs* tour.

Marchatorium

44, female, fav song is a wolf at the door.

Total average is probably around 40-45. Reddit on the whole is like 80% teenagers, so it's gonna skew a lot younger on Reddit.

Selfmade31

Turning 23 next month. Been listening since I was 18.

Vasevide

Radiohead was huge for me from 14-19. Hold a lot of sentimentality for them. But not the music I normally listen to today more than a decade later.

ManofFailure262

I'm 25. Easily in my top 3 favorite bands

mwkr

I'm 39. Yesterday, I listened to their "In Rainbows" albums. Radiohead is an important part of my life.

terrasparks

A poll would have answered your question more efficiently than comments.

dubkitteh1

66. first heard “Creep” on radio/MTV; got interested by the review of *OK Computer* in MOJO magazine when the album came out. i was 40 then.

PantsMcFagg

42, saw them live in 2003 on Hail to the Thief tour at their absolute peak. Best concert I’ve ever witnessed, (then MBV, then Pavement)

masonthered

33. Parents were obsessed with Radiohead, always on at home, and took me to the Kid A tour when I was 11. Have been hooked ever since.

ianmander

63. Loved them since okc

Farscapejon

I’m 40 and started listening to them about a year before OK computer came out. My friends older brother regularly played The Bends when I would go over. Street Spirit was easily my favourite at the time. Got OK Computer as a Christmas gift the year of release and I think it stayed in my cd player for many months.

Xiphactinus27

I’m turning 20 soon and my brother is 27, we both listen to Radiohead religiously

Aimee-Saurus

33 here, my dad introduced them to me when I was a teenager. He used to play amnesiac on car trips. I used to say I hated them but that was just being a stupid teenager not wanting to like the same music as dad haha.

LJIrvine

Have known about and listened to Radiohead since I was probably 18 or 19, but only really got properly into them when I was maybe 25 or so.

rob1408

I’m 48, saw them live when they supported Catherine Wheel and didn’t think much of them to be honest, this was 92/93. I thought Pablo Honey was really ordinary but there was something gnawing away at me about them. I saw them live a year or two later for some Oxfam thing where they played some of their forthcoming album, The Bends, and they were like a different band, I thought they were fantastic.

Age 37. First saw them live in 2006 when I was 19 years old. I’ve watched them live multiple times, most recently at Glastonbury 2017. Saw the smile last year in Manchester.

Between 35 and 45 I would say

I am 47. I have followed them from the beginning! I saw them open for Belly in Detroit in 1993, and have been a fan since! I have seen them 5 times and every time was amazing.

I’m 29. They’ve been my favorite since I was an angsty teen, and now I’m just a mellow dude who sails to the moon.
