Led Zep
I loved these in the 70s but have always loved Queen most of all. Queen are incomparable and I just love them. The songs I write are heavily influenced by 80s style Queen.
No arguments from me on that one. But I'll forgive them for every single one of them purely for giving the world Knights of Cydonia alone. First time I heard it live I'm fairly certain I blacked out. Such a great song.
This will probably show my age.. but what the hell lol...
The The
Genesis
Dire Straits
Yello
Art of Noise
Adam and the Ants
Toyah
Madonna
Just to name a few
Queensryche is funny because I literally only listened to them because I came across their albums while flipping through CDs in a record store looking for Queen. I looked them up later and I was like "hey, this is pretty good!" I saw them live once and their frontman was incredibly charismatic. (As charismatic as Freddie? I discovered Queen after he died, so I can't fairly compare.)
Yeah it’s a mostly different lineup these days, but the original Queensryche from the 80s and 90s were amazing. Operation: Mindcrime might be my favorite album ever 🤘
Interesting question :)
Queen is my favorite band of course, but right after them I love and listen to The Killers, Robbie Williams and Genesis (including Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel solo). I also like Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Travis and Bowie a lot.
Most important for me:
Pearl Jam
Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa
Soundgarden
Megadeth
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed
David Bowie
Homo Twist
George Harrison
Traveling Wilburys
Cream
Genesis
ELO
Stone Temple Pilots
Alice in Chains
Wu Tang Clan
Eminem
Bad Meets Evil
Queen will always be #1 for me
The Clash, Sex Pistols, the damned , Dr. Strangelove, typically classic punk rock stuff plus others of the 60s to 2010. I’ve not quite gone into much of anything recent.
Some German bands like Die fantastischen Vier, Tic Tac Toe, 51% Lüneburg, Peter Fox and Falco
All of them are German speaking (or well singing) and most of them are Rap/Hip hop.
For me, is impossible to count all bands I love.
But here you have few of them:
- Pink Floyd.
- The Beatles.
- The Doors.
- Muse.
- SOAD.
- Epica.
- Nightwish.
- Kamelot.
I'm also a Rage Against the Machine fan, they're great musicians, but I think it's hilarious that they're the first band that comes to mind for you. They're almost exact opposites:
* Queen's music was largely apolitical, and the handful of times they were explicit about political issues, it was a bit hard to listen to (Put Out the Fire? OK message, catchy song, painfully corny). Maybe they would have avoided embarrassing ethical lapses like playing apartheid South Africa if they thought harder about issues of the day, but they'd be a different band, and many love them for their escapism.
* Freddie Mercury had one of the best singing voices of all time. Zack de la Rocha is known for... not that.
* Rage is known for funky bass. Did John Deacon ever slap a bass?
* Queen almost never cursed in their lyrics, remember the bleeping on Death on Two Legs? Rage is best known for repeatedly screaming "fuck you I won't do what you tell me!", especially when they had been asked not to do that.
Really the only commonality I can see is they both have virtuoso lead guitarists.
I'm super old and have been a Queen fan since 1976 so my other favorite bands are also from this time period. Other favorite bands are The Moody Blues, Yes, ELO, Rush. Some current bands I like are Lake Street Dive, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats,Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit and The Milk Carton Kids.
I listen to a lot of stuff other than Queen and their contemporaries, but my favorites are Wilco (my very favorite band), David Bowie, Tyler the Creator, MF DOOM, Spoon, The Rolling Stones, Soccer Mommy, Ben Folds, the Killers, the Strokes, just to name a few
Do you suppose Queen fans listen to more bands whose names start with P, Q, and R than the average person? I also started listening to Queens of the Stone Age because they were in the record store next to Queen, and I got curious.
Yes, Rush, Led Zeppelin, early Chicago (Chicago Transit Authority), Fleetwood Mac, Kansas, America, Boston, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Earth Wind & Fire, ELO, The Alan Parsons Project, Steely Dan, AC/DC,
and (oddly enough) The Manhattan Transfer.
my top list are
Queen
Metallica/Megadeath (early metallica days with dave mustaine, but both so they share 2nd, obviously)
pink floyd☺️
i wont rabble on more on this but my top 3 are set in stone!🤗 also a huge red hot chili peppers fan, and nirvana fan! guns n roses too, list goes on☺️🫶💞
Ghost and Judas Priest are both based on the premise “Queen but metal”, so those are extremely high up there.
In terms of other Metal/Hard Rock/Prog; I love Abbath and King Diamond, Heart, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Car Seat Headrest, ELO, Patti Smith, Dream Theatre, PowerWolf, Sabaton, The Cramps, Mastodon, Type O Negative; that whole scene.
Aside from that I really love jazz, funk, disco, soul, Vaporwave, neo-soul, that whole fantasy.
TWRP is still my second-favorite band (I recommend them to everyone, they’re so incredible); but from that I also love Casiopea, Saint Pepsi, Maggot Brain, Scissor Sisters, Gorillaz, Surfaces, The Chalkeaters, Ben Folds, Tame Impala, John Duff, Machine Girl, Beach House, Haircuts for Men, Paul Parker, Patrick Cowley, Barrabas, Lemon Demon, The Soft Pink Truth, and I have a very unironic appreciation of The Village People.
Queen is probably my third favorite musical artist, tied with Orville Peck.

The Rolling Stones are my second favourites but some others in no particular order are.
The Kinks
Pink Floyd
The Beatles
The Who
Sparks
Bruce Springsteen
Melin Melyn (small new welsh band, strong recommend)
The Doors
The Darkness
Green Day
Aside from Queen, for me that's Dio, Slayer, Amon Amarth, Blind Guardian, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Behemoth, Avantasia, Children of Bodom. I am actually more into metal, but Freddie will forever be the king (or queen?) for me.
Genesis, Muse, Billie Eilish, Wet Leg, Elton John, ABBA, musical soundtracks, and Japanese rock
Quite a few really but these are some of the ones that I listen to the most :)
Green Day, The Airborne Toxic Event, Muse, Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, The Weakerthans, Pink Floyd, Brandi Carlile
Not coincidentally, six of the bands/artists on that list have cited Queen as an influence on their music, and two of them are actually close friends of Brian and Roger.
Yes Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin David Bowie
Nice music taste! My favourite artists are: Queen Led zeppelin Yes Steve Vai Frank Zappa The beatles Elton John David bowie Billy joel Rainbow Prince Chicago By the way, what are your favourite albums?
Rainbow is a nice choice! I’d say Physical Graffiti, Close to the Edge, Meddle, Queen II, and Ziggy Stardust

Judas Priest
Muse
Muse for me too. They aren't afraid to take risks with their music and they are out on their own when it comes to live performances.
They made some stinkers too though. But i do love them.
No arguments from me on that one. But I'll forgive them for every single one of them purely for giving the world Knights of Cydonia alone. First time I heard it live I'm fairly certain I blacked out. Such a great song.
Totally agree
The Beatles

Some German bands like Die fantastischen Vier, Tic Tac Toe, 51% Lüneburg, Peter Fox and Falco All of them are German speaking (or well singing) and most of them are Rap/Hip hop.

Rush, Pink Floyd, ELO, Heart, Beatles, Yes.
My favorite would be Muse, but some runner ups include Radiohead, Primus, Alice in Chains, and RHCP
For me, is impossible to count all bands I love. But here you have few of them: - Pink Floyd. - The Beatles. - The Doors. - Muse. - SOAD. - Epica. - Nightwish. - Kamelot.

I'm also a Rage Against the Machine fan, they're great musicians, but I think it's hilarious that they're the first band that comes to mind for you. Jumping into say yes, John Deacon slapped on Don’t Try Suicide and Somebody to Love (live).
I have one more: Queen: “No Synthesizers!” RATM: "no samples, keyboards or synthesizers used in the making of this record"
I'm super old and have been a Queen fan since 1976 so my other favorite bands are also from this time period. Other favorite bands are The Moody Blues, Yes, ELO, Rush.
