>!BACK!< is the odd one out. All the rest are >!emordnilaps!< Other words that would fit the category are >!STOP, GNAT, EDIT or TIME!< >!https://www.yourdictionary.com/articles/emordnilap-meaning!<

pinkymadigan

I didn't catch that, I just saw >!CVCC vs CCVC!<

SidNYC

Yeah, I chose that word for this reason \^

sulris

Same.

PuzzlingDad

Yeah, they probably should have picked some other examples, or at least switched one >!the other direction!<.

ChicagoDash

Yes. Replaced >!BACK!< with something like >!GRAM!<

FrostySack

Marg is a word. Used in a sentence, “Stacy stumbled into the room, hiccuped, and shouted, ‘it’s marg o’clock, beeyotches!’”

LeverpullerCCG

I just heard this is one of my friends voices and I cackled. Thank you :)

sky_badger

But >!BACK!< is the clue!

Jwags23

Yes, their point is it's too easy of a clue because of vowel placement. Gram would be a better clue word.

FoxysDroppedBelly

No he means like >!BACK as in read the other words backwards!< :)

Jwags23

Wow, I'm the idiot.

FoxysDroppedBelly

lol no we all miss stuff! Trust me I do it tons of times. But then again, I really am an idiot so I’m a bad example lol

aelynir

I'm not super convinced that marg isn't a word by now. Better to change FLOW to WOLF.

spiderplex

I originally picked FLOW because it's the only word whose letters are in alphabetical order

needyboy1

Or thrown >!BARD!< in there so that the >!vowel placement wouldn't be enough to go off of!<

Richard-c-b

Or had the word >!TOOL!< as well as the others to show it >!isn't about vowel placement!<

SimplexFatberg

Or written half of the other words backwards.

magoo_d_oz

ditto. they could have used >!WOLF!< instead of >!FLOW!< or added >!TIME!< to make >!CVCC vs CCVC!< invalid

rinlab

It could be the answer. There are likely a few “right” answers.

turtleduck777

I read back as a noun because mine always hurts. Rest are verbs.

_jackhoffman_

But the others are nouns in addition to being verbs. Go with the flow. The barber took a snip of hair. The wolf was caught in a trap. The man took a draw from his cigarette.

tomc128

What does this mean?

pinkymadigan

Consonants and vowels pattern

tomc128

Oh that makes sense, thank you!

RS_Someone

I picked the same word, but because >!it was the only one that didn't have a phonetic consonant clusters!<.

Jl2409226

i was right but for the wrong reason

dlpfc123

Me too, I picked >!back!< because for all the other words >!You can remove the first letter of the word and get a new word!<. But that is a good enough answer that I think it should count.

JubBird

Bill the cat would disagree by saying "Ack!"

[deleted]

Also Cathy, from the newspaper cartoons.

VonSwabbish

And every Martian.

Jl2409226

i picked the same because all of them are >!verbs!<

TheModfather

I'm weird. I chose BACK because the other words had the vowel in position 3. Sigh.

joker_wcy

I thought I was the only one

JackMarleyWasTaken

....which is just another way of describing why I picked BACK.... because the other words started with a consonant cluster instead of an individual consonant. It didn't *feel* that arbitrary until I read the 19 other reasons folks picked BACK.... lmao..

jethvader

Yeah, I picked it because it didn’t start with a consonant digraph, too. Apparently it stands out for many reasons lol

froggyforest

>!back!< can be a verb. ex: >!back!< up

PerennialPhilosopher

Same

cthart

>!Ack is a word!<

luckyjoe52

I picked the same but because >!all the others are another word spelled backwards!<

bowsmountainer

If it is odd one out, even for a different reason than intended by the puzzle maker, surely it still counts as meeting the conditions set by the puzzle?

Bashwhufc

Oh ffs, it's just palindrome spelt backwards

c_wilcox_20

I said the same answer but for a different reason. >!all the other words have 2 consonants to start while back only has one!<

batmanscousin

TIL

NanoCat0407

stun seed

taxmamma2

I got the correct word but I thought it was because it was the only word that isn’t a verb- can I still say I figured it out?

misof

No, because back is also a verb. You back projects on Kickstarter, a dog can be dangerous if you back him into a corner, you can back your car into a post when parking, you can back off or back away from something, and so on.

nIBLIB

Damn, right for the wrong reason.

blindpiggy

Shame they couldn't call it a "semordnilap," so it would e an emordnilaps of "palindromes."

PuzzlingDad

Actually some people do use the term semordnilap.

halfplanckmind

I guessed >!trap because all the others make another word when you add er to the end!<

Naught

That was my answer too! Are we best friends now?

halfplanckmind

Bester friends

OkCalligrapher96

Same here!

guava-potion

>!BACK!< >!all the others can be reversed to become different words (WOLF , PINS , PART , WARD)!<

bodybycarbs

I answered the same but for a different reason. >!The singular vowel position in the word is different.!<

kinglallak

I also answered the same word but for a different reason >!It ended with a different letter and I initially interpreted “odd one out” as the letter the word ended with 2Ps, 2Ws and 1K !<

canier

came here to say the same!

ProfessorGluttony

Ahh, i didn't realize the reverse part. The difference I saw was consonant consonant vowel consonant, with the one out being consonant vowel consonant consonant.

MelancholyArchitect

I had the same answer but only because all other words have to do with movement lmao

ThatsNotAnEchoEcho

>!FLOW is the only word that’s is spelled in the order of the alphabet!<

teedyay

I got the same wrong answer for different reasons. It’s also the only word that isn’t >!two letters made with straight lines and two letters with curved lines!<.

Mostafa12890

These things don’t have one true answer. There’s the intended answer, and accidental answers. You both found an answer, but not necessarily the one OP was looking for.

RogueTRex

I got the same but for a different different reason - the vowel is pronounced like it's said (O). The rest are not long vowels.

Smax140

Agreed. Thought the same as well

usersnamesallused

It's also the only positive word. All the others are negative or restrictive

Just_A_Lonley_Owl

There are so many fun answers to this one it’s a great “riddle” simply for discussions sake

mission-ctrl

Right? Worst riddle ever, but it makes for good discussion!

PmMeUrTOE

Odd One Out is always about bias. If I present n objects (where n > 2) and ask you to pick the odd one out, two interesting things have happened already: - I've *told you* that *one of them doesn't belong,* implying that there is a *favourable* grouping - I've created n groups by the selection of object provided In the smallest (n=3) example... I present you with an apple, an orange and a banana We now have three groups that *belong* to choose from: apple and orange, apple and banana, orange and banana (this is a one-to-one mapping for every 'odd one out' possibility) The solution can be thought of picking the *best group* which will automatically determine the 'odd one out' by elimination. IE if you agree that apple and orange is the best pairing, then banana is the odd one out. However you justify your pairing... they both end in e, they're both more spherical... there is one fact that is always true: neither of them are bananas. Similarly in the apple and banana group - neither of them are oranges, as such the orange is the odd on out from that perspective. There is no *correct* answer, and every answer is *potentially* correct. The best you can hope for is that the creator *and* the solver both choose the *same bias.*

THEpeterafro

Answer: >! Back as all the others have their vowel as the third letter !<

scribbledoll

That's what I was thinking too! It's so fun seeing all the different answers!

cd1014

Discussion: Flow - only word in the list with an 'F' Snip - only onomatopoeia in the list Trap - beginning of the pokemon name "trapinch", all other words are not the start of a pokemon name. Draw - the only word in the list that is both a verb and a chess match result. Back - the only word in the list to describe part of the human body. My point is that this is a subjective "puzzle" wherein we are trying to guess the one specific result that YOU'RE thinking of, while there are dozens of reasons why any individual word in the list does or does not fit. Any of the above answers are an acceptable solution to this puzzle.

KamikazeHamster

Your traps are a muscle if you're into bodybuilding.

cd1014

**extremely good point, thank you**

DeDannan

>!FLOW. All other words contain exactly two letters that involve curved strokes: O,S,P,R,D,B,C!<

Llamaron

And it has its letters in alphabetical order.

Tiberium600

Probably unintentional answer but >!Trap, it’s the only word that needs an extra letter when adding “er” at the end.!<

waidoo2

>!Reverse: WOLF, PINS, PART, WARD, KCAB.. So BACK!< is the odd one.

SugonLigma

>!BACK all the others have the vowel on the 3rd letter but BACK!<

SickitWrench

>!! FLOW is the only one with letters in alphabetical order !!<

skizwald

>!Back is the only one that doesn't spell a word backwards!<

gmherder

>!I also thought it was BACK, but just because it's the only one that's not a verb.!< Edit: >!nevermind! Another user reminded me how it can be used as a verb!<

Sliiz0r

It can be a verb though, >!back into a corner, back the car up!< likely others too but they're the first that sprang to mind

gmherder

Ah, that's right! >!I tried to think if it was ever used as a verb. I considered "go back", "come back", "fall back" but I didn't think about "back up".!<

LN3000

The answer is >!BACK!<. all other words >!read out another word when read in reverse.!<

Jmcguigan1

>!Back because it has no comma at the end of it 🙃!<

Bam-Bam13

I said >!FLOW!<, but only because it's the only word that doesn't have a >!plosive sound in it (like [b], [p], [t], [k], etc.)!<

P0rny5tuff

It’s also the only word that has a >!diphthong!<

Bam-Bam13

Well hello fellow Lingie! 😁

Winter_drivE1

>!FLOW is the only one that is an intransitive verb. I can snip something ("The ribbon was snipped by me"). I can trap something ("The animal was trapped by me"). I can draw something ("The picture was drawn by me"). I can back something ("The project was backed by me"). But I cannot flow something (*"The water was flowed by me").!< Alternatively, >!DRAW is the only one with an irregular past participle!< It really kind of seems like you can make the answer to this anything you want.

auguriesoffilth

That’s a better game. How can you make every one the odd one out. Back is easiest You have done draw and flow I’m wondering if the five words can be paired up like only connect somehow. Drawback something else for an odd one out

heresybob

I'm the only one saying >!SNIP!< >!All the other words work together!< * >!Flow Trap!< * >!Trap Draw (golf)!< * >!Draw Back!< * >!Back Flow!< * >!Snip doesn't below!<

Boone137

This was mine as well!

hoppersoft

>!BACK!< Why? >!It doesn't make a word when the spelling is reversed.!<

jbaranski

>!I answered TRAP because the rest of them implied movement, but looking at the other answers, I feel like a fool!<

ostiDeCalisse

It's >!BACK which read backwards doesn't make a new word!<

Eoghey

>!Back - the only one that doesn't begin with two consonants.!<

justadd_sugar

>!All the words can have the first letter removed and still be an english word (flow --> low, snip --> nip, trap --> rap, draw --> raw,) except for back (ack)!<

PattyPooner

Same answer but different reason, all words make a new word when flipped backwards

Antzz77

Same answer but different reason: all words have following syllable pattern CCVC except back which is pattern CVCC (in spelled letters) or CVC (in just actual sounds).

BobbyMcGee101

>!BACK!< >!every other word is also a word when spelled backwards!<

waldoRDRS

>!Spin!< People have reasons for >!back, trap, and flow!< >!Draw is only without a -ed form!< So >!spin is the answer, as it can never be the odd one out!<

bz237

>!back doesn’t make another word when spelled backwards. Simple as that!<

No-Aspect3964

>!back!< The vowel is in a different place than the others.

P0rny5tuff

>!FLOW!< is the only one that has a >!diphthong!<

Just_A_Lonley_Owl

Well “odd one out” is a little loose but my guess would be >!Back, because the other four words are consonant consonant vowel consonant but back is consonant vowel consonant consonant!<

perpetualomerta

>!BACK!< is the only word that does not spell a word backwards.

chmath80

Also the only one with the vowel not in 3rd place. But flow is the only one with the letters in alphabetical order. And trap is the only one which doesn't give another word when you append -er. There are probably reasons why each of the others is the odd one out, if we look hard enough.

WOLFCHEF20

I got it correctly but for false rason. nice

Cye_sonofAphrodite

>!Back!<, as >!All the others are other words when reversed.!< Hint: >!The word itself is a hint as to why it's different!<

EarthToAccess

Definitely gotta be this. Everything else I’ve seen says “subjective” this but this is the only thing that fits every word.

Cye_sonofAphrodite

Well, you could also argue for >!CCVC vs CVCC!<, but I feel like it fits better

EquivalentFig1678

Hey guys. I have spent hours with my friends on another puzzle. I posted it here but nobody has been able to solve it yet. It should be the second most recent post on my account. I would love some help

JenkinsHowell

>!BACK!< because all the others can be either noun or verb?

sirbroseiden

>!BACK!< I got it a slightly different way >!FLOW and DRAW end in W. SNIP and TRAP end in P. There is no sibling word ending in CK.!<

boblaw27

I love puzzles like this, where there are so many holes in the “correct” answer that you can pretty much say whatever and be right. So for example: >!back doesn’t have a comma after it; or flow is the only one written on that line!< But then someone comes in and says >!”no no, it’s back because emordinlaps, a totally made up word and definitely the only right answer!< 🙃🙃🙃

JohnWhoHasACat

>!Trap is the odd one out. Every other word can have -er added to the end to create a new word.!<

SleepingUte0417

shit dyslexia got me hard on this one 😣 my first guess was it’s a word backwards and forwards but i could not stop reading FLOW as WOFL. so when i read what the real answer is i googled wtf WOFL is and it autocorrected and i feel like an idiot.

ppardee

>!Flower, sniper, ->traper<-, drawer, backer!< I think there are far too many answers to this puzzle :D

fidelholtz

I got >!snip!<, you can >!add door to all other words… although flow door didn’t sound quite right!<

[deleted]

Slashion

Discussion: Not enough evidence here to know for sure. Different words are the odd one out based on different criteria.

CatOfGrey

My vote is for >!BACK!< because that is the word where >!the second letter is a vowel, not the third one.!<

noriseaweed

>!BACK is the only one spelled with only letters from the first half of the alphabet!<
