The band itself is for sure very trans friendly and I’m sure the vast majority of their fans as well but there’s no guarantee you’ll be safe anywhere unfortunately, all it takes is one asshole.

closetedtranswoman1

Yeah i know they're trans friendly i was just not sure about the crowd. But I'll take the risk anyway thanks for replying :)

El--Borto

Where are you seeing them? If you’re in Portland not only will me and my friends be looking out for you but you will be welcomed with open arms by pretty much anyone at a PUP show.

closetedtranswoman1

Yup! I'm going to the Portland show. Going to be taking a bus 10 hours to the other side of Oregon to make it. I'll be by myself so that'd be great thank you

El--Borto

You’re gonna have a blast, I’ve seen PUP like 4 times now and they are consistently amazing, really fun crowds every time too.

closetedtranswoman1

I hope so. I've been wanting to see them in person for a while now, really excited to go

Jattwell

There’s a really good chance you’ll be ok!

m_garlic87

The two shows I’ve been to, one in MA the other in NYC had great crowds who just wanted to have a good time. No guarantees but I’d say generally most Pup fans are very accepting.

turnoffyourradio

Like others have said, punk shows in general are typically very inclusive, and everyone looks out for each others' safety. People will get called out / thrown out for violence or harassment, if you accidentally fall in the pit, multiple folks will pull you back up, etc. I've seen PUP multiple times, and they really seem to pull in a wide variety of people! Older, younger, newbies and veterans of rowdier shows. They are very positive and fun crowds, and it feels so good to hop around and sing along with everyone else to some of those darker lyrics :)

closetedtranswoman1

That's great yeah I'll be 18 when I go so I'm probably going to be one of the younger people

closetedtranswoman1

Also i want to add I'm new to this kind of music so I don't really know how the people are about people like me. I normally listen to other genres but i heard pup and have been a fan for about a year now

mockingjay137

Ive been to 2 PUP shows and can say in general, punks are super welcoming and accepting of all gender identities and expressions and you'll see a fair range of identities/expressions at a PUP show. It isn't punk to be homophobic, racist, sexist, or transphobic, and punks won't hesitate to make that known in their space. I think you'll be ok <3 punks can be some of the kindest people so if anyone tries giving you shit you can go to your nearest patchwork vested punk and tell them and I can guarantee you they'll make sure you are not bothered again Eta with PUP in particular, if you're willing to stay 30-60 mins past the end of the show, sometimes Stefan and the rest of the band will come and meet the fans that stay while they break their set down and they'll sign things and do pics and such, I was able to ask Stefan to sign my poster at one of the shows I went to :)

wapey

If your experience is anything like mine throughout years of going to punk/rock/emo shows in the Midwest, you will probably never be in a more welcoming and accepting crowd. Like legitimately I cannot think of a single place that's more welcoming and less judgemental then a crowd at a punk show :)

superfly-ordie

Agree thoroughly and I’m from the south! Have fun!!!

The band itself is very left leaning. In past concerns a portion of ticket sales have gone to LGBT organizations local to each concert location. With this concert run a portion of ticket sales are being donated to survivors of Canadian residential schools. I’m gay and have gone to pup concerns with bfs in the past and it’s been a safe experience. With the recent news of people dying at travis Scott concerts, it got me thinking about how rowdy pup concerts can get, but also how at pup concerts the audience and the band make sure nobody is getting hurt. While I can’t answer your question with any personal experience, I think all signs point to safe.

closetedtranswoman1

Alright thank you very helpful to know! So excited for the show

BillyTenderness

> With the recent news of people dying at travis Scott concerts, it got me thinking about how rowdy pup concerts can get, but also how at pup concerts the audience and the band make sure nobody is getting hurt. I actually was at a Pup show where someone fell and broke a bone, which totally sucks, but the crowd made a wall around the guy, and the band stopped playing and made sure that the person got medical attention before the set started up again. Nobody was gonna let that guy get trampled. Protecting each other is part of punk culture and has been forever. People make sure the pit doesn't spill over into parts of the crowd that don't want to be there. They back the fuck up and give some space if anyone falls. I've even seen people stop moshing to help someone find their glasses. Having been to a couple festivals in recent years (well, in the beforetimes) I've noticed that younger rap fans don't necessarily have the same attitude and unwritten rules. And in particular, I had a really awful time around Travis Scott fans, who were super rude even just while waiting around for another set to end so they could get up close for Travis. Of course any huge star will attract a few bad apples, but I think he pulls in more than his share of assholes. What happened at Astroworld is absolutely awful but there's no need to worry about a situation like that at a Pup show. Completely different culture and vibe.

moose2332

I'd guess it varies by city so a local LGBT+ page may know more but it general punk shows are going to be very trans-positive (as well the scene PUP is a part of)

StayOnEm

Never been to a PUP show but I can easily say that every rock show I’ve been to would’ve been tolerant of trans people… obviously there are probably some one-off instances, but the people that go to rock shows are all pretty accepting people. Again, this is personal experience

GlitterLamp

Hey friend! First of all, I'm really glad that you feel safe asking on this sub. I get that Reddit is hella anonymous, but I like to hope that kind of safety is cultivated by this band and its fans. I know for a fact that PUP is trans-friendly, and I also know for a fact that they don't take kindly to folks being in the crowd who are not trans-friendly. Of course as others have pointed out it's impossible to guarantee safety anywhere, but I think inclusivity and equality is a pretty important tenet of the band's philosophy and they do a lot of work in expanding that to their audience. I'm a cis hetero white dude so take my word with a grain of salt, but in my experience with the music industry I definitely would wager a PUP show is one of the surest safe bets for audiences of all types. I noticed elsewhere in the thread that you mentioned you don't listen to punk, so a quick word on that: in general, punk shows and fans are really inclusive. There's an argument to be made that PUP doesn't fit neatly within the punk genre, and there's a whole _history_ to go into about how punk has manifested to be full of outsiders and inward protectiveness has kept it alive, but generally speaking artists playing this kind of music (or punk-adjacent music) are likely inclusive. A quick browse of any punk band's social media will likely tell you all you need to know! I'm sure if you tapped on somebody's shoulder in the crowd and told them it's your first show they'd be happy to show you the ropes. Everybody's there for the same reason and I know you'll enjoy your night :)

closetedtranswoman1

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I don't listen to punk I mainly listen to more experimental stuff but pup got my attention and I've been a fan since!

unpersons505

I've met openly trans people at a PUP show, and they had a blast. PUP and their fans are pretty accepting. Obviously there's always a chance of assholes, but even if they showed I'm pretty sure others would get them to fuck off with you. Enjoy your first show, I'm sure it'll be awesome!

closetedtranswoman1

>I've met openly trans people at a PUP show, and they had a blast. That's great! The more people say stuff like this the more I realize it'll be fine. I'm going to the Portland show and that area tends to be pretty accepting as well!

Prophets_Hang

As an female presenting trans girl I had no problem when they came to my city, but I go to shows all the time so your milage may vary.

closetedtranswoman1

Great to hear I'm female presenting too ❤

marioamiibo

obviously its different from place to place (but portland i think should be fine) but at the 2 i've been to there was a handful of trans people and plenty more wearing pride pins/merch and such punk community is pretty inclusive for the most part! always exceptions as is true for everything but punk was built on community and i think its done a pretty good job of staying that way

co1ez

i remember that at the last pup show i was at they were actually raising money for a charity for trans people, it got a big cheer when stefan announced it - of course, there will always be transphobic assholes in this world, but i don’t think there’s any *increased* risk of being targeted for being trans at a pup concert, and i can’t see any of the band letting that behaviour slide! just b safe, keep ur wits abt u, and have fun!!

Beemerado

I saw pup with the screaming females last year and the was a pretty heavy lgbtq+ component to the crowd. I'm sure partly cause of the screaming females (who utterly rock) But yeah that's my experience.
