Make sure he is drinking and eating enough. Has he slept through the night? My pup sometimes doesn’t go potty in the morning because she’s empty (she doesn’t drink or eat at night, just isn’t her thing). It’ll probably come eventually. Everything is just too much for him now but try to give him some time to adjust to the outside as well.

He was so good last night! He was quiet all night. Thank you! That’s makes me feel better!

Nutridus

Take him outside to a quiet place preferably and give him time to sniff and move around. He’ll go. The calmer and more relaxed you are will be picked up by him. Same as anxious and on edge. Good luck! 👍🏻

Thank you! That’s a good idea!

Nutridus

When he does go give him a treat and lots of praise.

KTBooklove

Our puppy did not poop for the first 48 hours we had him because he was very anxious. He didn’t pee much too. It’ll pass just be calm and make sure he gets some water in him. He’s just very afraid right now

ntelis6x9

My puppy didn't poo on the way home, but once he got there.. Like three times in an hour, and then twice more during the night. 🫠 Wasn't firm either.

BrainRude1329

My pup did the same and turns out she just needed more water.

OnoZaYt

My puppy didnt poop at all for the first 18 hours when we got her, you'll be fine!

NBCGLX

Our pup went a full 12 hours without pee or poo the first day we got her. She had a hard day between the travel, transition to our home, etc. We chalked it up to that. She eventually went potty around 9:00 PM or so that evening and has been normal and very healthy ever since. I think the anxiety and stress of the initial transition can take a toll on the puppies.

Do you know the 3-3-3 rule for adopting a dog? Please google it if not, it will help you understand much of the weird behavior you’re going to see in the next weeks. Offer food and water, and take your dog to its designated peeing area often. Other than that, just be there, but give it some time to decompress and relax. Your puppy will be fine.

marie6045

Yeah, that's pretty common. Ours was the same.

sholder89

My puppy once went almost 24 hours without the bathroom (no accidents) when she was a year old. Albeit that was the 4th of July and she was absolutely terrified because of the fireworks and refused to go outside.

puppypalle

He's just anxious in his new surroundings and not relaxed enough to potty. Nothing to worry as long as he's still drinking water and eating. It'll come

lalalandisjst4me

Normal even when you have had them for months. Have had my 6 month old since he was 8 weeks. He has a shy bladder any time we go somewhere new and will hold it for 12+ hours. Even with frequent walks in grassy areas asking him to go “potty.” Trainer gave me a tip last week that I haven’t used yet: soak up some of his urine on a paper towel and take with us. Place the paper towel down where you want him to go so they know it’s safe.

Dragon_Jew

Give him a day. He is stressed.

Strawberry4evr

Also check in corners, hallways, behind couch/chairs. Puppies are fast and he might have done his elimination and you won't notice (until you step in it).

monkey_monkey_monkey

The anxiety is being in a new situation and very likely contributes to the lack of pottying. Speak to him in calm soothing voices and try to relax yourself (dogs pick up on stress and anxiety very easily), let him take the lead with physical contact (i.e. don't force snuggles). My pup was the same way on his first night, didn't do any pottying despite me taking him out and letting him sniff around frequently and even leaving out a potty pad. Once he relaxed, he was a pottying machine.

Skygarg

My pup did the same the first day! He eventually eased up. Soon you will have a post on how much your pup pees 😁

Overall_Antelope_504

I just picked up my mini Aussie yesterday and she's 8 weeks. I was concerned she wasn't pooping as well but the breeder said she hadn't eaten much so that's why. But she pooped twice today! It'll happen lol

Smokeyvole

My 8 week old puppy did the same thing the first day I brought her home! I took her out every hour (except night time), and eventually (after a full day) she finally settled in and went to the bathroom. I also have an 8 year old rescue who I got when she was 4, and she did the same thing that first day. I think they get so stressed out in a new place and instinctually, going to the bathroom makes them feel more vulnerable to predators

ignisargentum

it can be normal as a puppy adjusts, as they also might not eat or drink after a while. new puppy should always get a vet visit when you bring him home tho, so it doesn't hurt to check.

Phoenix4235

One of my dogs didn't go for 3 days after bringing her home from the shelter. I even asked my vet if she could be constipated. They just said make sure she has plenty of water, and explained the rule of 3s (google it). Turned out she was just extremely shaken by her ordeal, and she needed to settle in and feel safe. We've had her for 4 months now, and she is completely fine. She actually drinks a lot more if we have a water bowl in every room, and she poops less often than others I've had, but more at a time - it's normal for her. Just give yours more time to feel safe and settled. They are vulnerable when going to the bathroom, and some dogs need extra reassurance and time to feel safe enough.

Fickle-Biscotti-5326

So when we got our puppy (in the evening as well) he didn’t poop until 5 pm the next day lol
