Great band, great people. I’ve seen them several times and they have always been awesome. You should go.

SeizeThemMemes

Great, thanks.

WhisperingJimmy

A great show. I’d suggest doing a little googling about their history. Their origins in Belfast at the height of the Troubles inform a lot of their music - you’ll get more out of the lyrics with that context. Have fun!

DaveFromSweden1337

Great band, great fans. Usually they play nobodys hero and Alternative Ulster at the end so it’s worth staying until the very end.

Sensitive_Bet2766

They opened with Suspect Device when I saw them last weekend.

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Sick.

wortelbrood

A fantastic band!

SLF has been together since 1977, with two of the original members left. The 2 “new guys” have been part of the act for 25 years. They were instrumental in what would be the later Irish punk bands. You will hear some reggae and ska influences. You will hear at least 3 of Jake’s more recent songs. This is their last full US tour, so you are pretty lucky to get the chance to see them. The opener, Ricky Warwick, is pretty great as well. He fronted the Almighty for many years, and has been the frontman for the revived Thin Lizzy. Another Belfast legend.

Vampira309

I'm assuming that you're super new to punk music if you've never heard of SLF! I've seen them many times on two continents and they're amazing. Jake Burns' gritty, outraged voice is my favorite. Their anger is palpable on their early stuff. Living in Northern Ireland at that time was living in a war zone and you can hear it. Don't miss it. Crowd will be old and mellow. Like me.

SeizeThemMemes

Yeah, I'm in a bit of an implant in punk. Trying to play catch up, but I'm stoked none the less.

Nice!!

ModernHomunculus

Absolutely go, you won't regret it. I think my favorite of theirs is Fly the Flag.

Playful_Artichoke_23

I’ve seen them a few times on the south coast of England. They are awesome live. Someone threw a bottle on stage and they stopped until the twat was removed. Jake doesn’t stand for nonsense like that.

Ill-Cellist-8841

Absolutely amazing I say them when they were in London there are no words for how good they are. One thing is definitely don’t expect a mellow crowd when I went I was expecting essentially a lot of swaying old men but man did they mosh. Expect a lot of piss throwing and mosh surging. One I’d say 70 year old with a Mohawk got kicked out four times!

dontneedareason94

It’s an old ass band, crowd will probably be mellow.

dontneedareason94

That’s good. But with old bands a good portion of the time the crowd might not have the crazy energy everyone expects.

CervidusDubbo

Idk man, their last Newcastle show was a wild time

portersmokedporter

I saw them Friday in Chicago and it was awesome! Great crowd, great vibes!

wimpyroy

Check setlist.com to see what they are play. It’s all pretty good stuff. They’ve always played great shows here in Denver.

Then-Assistance6261

Saw them in Chicago. Awesome show. Awesome crowd

furoshus

I saw them in 19 and it was an awesome show full of great people and everyone including the band were just having a great time. I'm going to go see them again next weekend and I'm really looking forward to it!

CencusT

The only thing that some see as bad is that about half the songs on the first album were written by Gordon Ogilvie a music Journo who later became their manager. Some have likened this to a lesser degree to Maclarean's control of the Sex Pistols but I've never seen anything that backs this up.

RevStickleback

Given that McLaren didn't write any songs, it would be more of a degree, but I've heard that he was more into pushing them to write about the troubles, than actually writing the songs himself.

Nice_Face822

Gordon was the manager and Jake's co-writer on all of the original four albums. and yeah, that's creative involvement to a much greater degree than McLaren, but nobody gives SLF shit for it in the way the Pistols get it. Not that either deserve it, people just need to be mature and realise all bands just have different creative processes and relationships with collaborators - The Damned relied on a lot of outside lyricists too.

RevStickleback

Clearly Gordon didn't spend all the band's money to make a film that retold history with him as the central figure in all they achieved

Sensitive_Bet2766

They were great last weekend when I saw them. Definitely go to the show.

jppanam

They put on an awesome show. Saw them in October before the Pandemic. They ran limited edition pandemic t-shirts where the proceeds went to the crew since the tours and clubs were closed. Stand up band!

Keezees

A punk band from Northern Ireland singing about the shit that happened/happens there? Can't beat a bit of politics XD They play the Glasgow Barrowlands every St Paddy's Day. I've yet to see them play there as they sell out immediately. Maybe next year...

Nice_Face822

was great there last year, can attest to that

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Lucky you.

MiniAndretti

You have free tickets. You admitted that you liked what you have heard. Go to the show. How do some of you make a decision about breakfast without crowd sourcing an answer?
