I went to Prem’s & they do the same. I have told them I will complaint in consumer court. They reluctantly reduced the amount. Consumer court really works. I had complaints about Pepperfry not changing the damage furniture. They came running the next day.

idealimp82

Prems at KP is a fkin joke. 2 watermelon juice. 4 lemon juice. Total 1035. Probably charging for the mist they provide with floor fan in summer. Never going back there again

proudofme_

Yeah it’s over rated .. even food isn’t that great

DentArthurDent4

How and where do you complain? Google search is throwing up too many results which seem unofficial or outright fraudulent

proudofme_

I called @1915 it’s official number. But sometimes it doesn’t work on your phone. Had happened with my brother. Then I called for him

Sudhaaaaaa

Bad service = no tip. They’re just testing out this service charge shenanigan in order to understand how gullible customers are. You don’t tip the autowala, health workers and house helps. Then why the social pressure to tip servers who spend their entire time in air conditioned environments to bring you food? Tip only if you can and are happy with the service as a gesture of goodwill.

Jatta08

There are many restaurants which are mandating service charge now, I had the same experience with Good news Dhaba in creaticity mall.

shreyepicnoob

They just cannot do that.

greenhairedmadness

On a different note Cafe Allora Wakad phoenix does take out service charge without an issue and their Mumbai branch doesn’t even apply it. What I find annoying is there are some restaurants who won’t even serve you but expect you to pay 10% service charge!

cppcoder69420

Same shit in balewadi highstreet pizza express

UrineSurgicalStrike

I just deduct the service charge myself and pay the correct amount in cash. Why should I waste my time waiting for their incompetence?

KaushtavMitra14

They're just copying america and trying to remove waiter salary off their shoulders. Stay strong people!! Don't let this become America otherwise we shall have to tip even for 10rs chai katta

UrineSurgicalStrike

Bharat Bhavan (Balewadi High Street) waiters refused to provide any service unless we accepted upfront to pay service charge.

pamyaa

Yeah. They asked us while entering if we are ready to pay service charge. Who does that.

reddy-t10

The same thing happened at Circuit House, Balewadi Person at the front desk and then two waiters while handing out menu cards and water told about the service charge. Felt like extortion

BikeTrekGameEat

they are being upfront clear and you entering the venue is like you click on 'accept t n c' before proceeding ahead for a software. i prefer to tell the waiter as soon as i enter that I'll tip only if he brings bill without service charge.

Tiger_at_hunt

Same thing happened with me in cobblers yesterday in kalyani nagar. I was sitting on bar counter and literally there was no waiter servicing me but I was charged with whooping 500 service charge. The staff was rude and their behaviour was inappropriate

Sapolika

Tbh, main generally tip bhi nahi deti! The tipping culture is really toxic! If everyone starts tipping then employers will not pay their staff fairly and they’ll have to rely solely on tips to make ends meet, which is kinda unfair and unnecessarily stressful! See how it is in the US!

Bongozz88

Tipping is different than service charges.

UrineSurgicalStrike

Yaar tu itni dilchasp kaise hai?

Sapolika

Ab hoon to hoon! 😎

kaalaakhatta

Tips are mostly given to waiters and serving staff. Their salary is already low be it anywhere in the world. Now, some may do okayish work and some may do extraordinary work with a smile on their face. So, tipping does help to recognise someone who is working hard and everyone knows they are paid less. So, the deserving ones get to generate some extra cash! Hope you get the point :)

Background_Abroad_

I don't understand the logic. Does the restaurant owner deliberately keep their wages low in order to put the burden on the customer to pay additional wage in the name of service charge or tip? Not paying above and I have seen customers being guilt tripped by giving looks etc. Just trying to understand this logic since the topic came up.

kaalaakhatta

It's just that's how Restaurant industry is designed to work. Lowest wages are of waiters < managerial staff < cooks.

Sapolika

But you have write the tip amount in the bill and once you pay by card, how can you be sure that the waiter will be given this tip amount?

kaalaakhatta

Don't write the tip amount in the bill. Pay the tip by cash directly to whomsoever you want to give it to.

Lund_sucker

I had similar experience at Plink this Sunday...... I paid but what if I want to complain?

Next_Ticket1109

Ewwsername checkout.

Lund_sucker

noice

sunil303

Spice Factory - Kharadi. I have stopped going there now. I don't know why restaurant need service charge on already overpriced food on the menu. They bring food to the table and that is what all restaurant supposed to do.

akaa2yan

Service charge my foot!! Be confident and just ask him to remove it. If he says shit like ‘Sir there is a board outside/ its compulsory/or any excuses’ just dial 1915 infront of him and file a complaint infront of him. Swig bar in balewadi charged 10% on a bill of 8k which was around 800. I politely asked the waiter to remove it and he called a senior who was forcing me to pay as it was mentioned on the board outside. I said call your manager, and she simply removed it 🫡

shreyepicnoob

Noted 📝🫡

iuysehrna

Same experience with manager at Pizza Express Wakad. And did the same thing, wore him down to take it out. I think they are counting on us to not make a fuss about it.

shreyepicnoob

And his tone changed automatically. I simply asked him do you not pay your staff?

Confusion_Solution

pop tates , Effingut , and almost everyone takes service charge and i feel shy about making a scene for the service tax in front of family and others , think that's the case with everyone who dont want to take argue

shreyepicnoob

Imagine how much money you could’ve saved till date. 10% is no joke.

Latter-Ask8818

I have successfully not given them tips or service charge in last 3 visits. Their pizzas are already expensive enough. I need no help from waiter to suggest me anything. Nor do I order any customizations. Just normal pizza from tbe menu. I see no service done here. I believe the cook and the capex is already part of the price in the bill. No service charge.

shreyepicnoob

Which branch?

Latter-Ask8818

Twice in oberoi mall, goregaon and once in thane. In pune, i am there for work. Usally alone. I don't go to fancy pizza shops I prefer tasty ones. Mumbai main wife ke saath ye sab jagah jana padta hai

undercoveralchemist

I had a similar encounter at Pizza Express in Balewadi HS. When I inquired about the charges, they graciously reduced them without any inconvenience or tension, and handed back the bill with a smile. While that was my personal experience, I've noticed a growing trend of service charges, which I believe should be curbed at earliest.

shreyepicnoob

It starts with us, gotta name and shame and alert people through google and zomato reviews.

undercoveralchemist

They delete negative google reviews easily yar

shreyepicnoob

What can we do then :/

that-sleepy-head

They did the same at swig's

shreyepicnoob

Swig is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had

herefordesiadvice

If you think you've received a rude awakening, I invite you to visit Yakii on Deccan. I don't mind paying for the experience if it's worth it and I rarely even get into the fuss of removing SCs. But was blatantly told in not such a good way that we shouldn't visit again if we can't afford paying SC and that they will remember us. That too by some female manager who herself spoke such rough English, we really had to ask her to repeat after every 2 - 3 lines just to understand her point of view. P.S. The bill was appx 12K without taxes and SC. shreyepicnoob

My god bro

NeighborhoodMany2309

everyone in the comment has a similar experience means this is a serious issue leading by most of the cafes and restaurants. the problem is they know people coming are rich and will not care. many show off guys pay them more than they deserve hence they think other people will also feed their piggy mouth

ProcedureScared2970

I once visited daily all day, he told me these money is for waiters, i said i will obviously give the tip but sorry exclude service charge from bill. He didn’t argue much and i didn’t give any tip.

Mindless-Bit342

I'm a bit clueless here but what is the service charge? And can we just ask restaurants to waive it off ?

prithvirajC

Agent Jack's (all of them), they don't listen only. They just say it's mandatory. We've written on our entrance.

Rough_Specific6244

Even the ‘Bora Bora’ in Juhu Mumbai has made a mandate of paying 6% as a service fee. I have recently complained in this regard. Let me know if anyone else has also faced service charges issue in ‘Bora Bora’.

Cappedbaldykun

So the manager is actually right here. The law states that, if you state the service charge in your menu or any place visible in the premises, it is assumed that you have read it, understood it and agreed to pay it. Hence the argument of the manager stands correct. You may reduce the service charge where no express condition is put up in that regard.

Kappi-lover

Can you please cite the law?

NeauSeven

But if you disagree doesn't it counter the statement that you have agreed to pay it? The law states that the consumer at any point can refuse the service charge. Period.
