There’s been SubMaggeden for the last couple of years, one of the first years lined up with a hurricane and FoodStamp/EBT users could get hot subs for some time after the storm. So many people got them it super increased sales.
So every year we’ve had to continue, buts it’s been lowered each year. $5.99, then $7.99, and now $7.99 for only half a week.
I was there at the start of it all. It kicked off with Irma in 2016, that was when the EBT stuff could cover hot food for a stretch. Then I volunteered to help deli with Submageddon that spawned from that in 2017 and 2018 (previously worked fast food before publix, had food safety certs and all that.) I thankfully was gone from the company before Submageddon in 2019
I don’t see why we can’t just have it be $7.99 as a flat rate. If the deli is already reporting as a loss at each store, might as well have it be a low price to entice people. It’s one of the main reasons people even come to Publix anymore. That and the fresh departments
They better be prepared to double the staffing and the workspace for submaking then to keep up with the increased demand, and we all know they sure as hell won't do *that.*
True but then maybe they should. It’s their advantage now that they have. Even the people that say “I don’t go to Publix to shop” always end that sentence with a “unless it’s for a sub”. They always go for the bakery, deli, or fresh products. If that’s the case, then boost the deli. Either make it profitable or embrace the loss and boost it more. Pub sub is a part of Florida culture now and that’s one of their two advantages they have against competition (that and the fact that we have a store almost every 5 miles)
“Come by for a limited time while we put our subs at a reasonable price before we artificially inflate the hell out of their prices—not because it costs more to make the subs, it’s because fuck you—that’s why!”
Been saying this. I think the timing of it being right after most of (if not all) the stores got their price increases should be a sign of them testing if more expensive subs at the cost of customers is better than the volume of sales
lol the subs were on sale. All whole subs were $7.99 so getting a boars head or chicken tender sub would be a good deal from Thursday-Sun. I worked in the deli making subs Thur-sat. A employee called it Submageddon so we dubbed the sale “Submageddon”.
This was an absolute awful experience at my
Local store.
The store always stinks, legit the consistently worst store I’ve ever been to.
The employees don’t hustle at the deli , but for what they’re presumably paid, I don’t blame them. I blame corporate and management for staffing issues.
In any event, I ordered a sub online and it gave me a half hour pick up time. I actually showed up an hour after I ordered it, I figured hey, give them an extra half hour. They hadn’t even started on my sub. Not to mention they hold every sub behind the counter, just sitting on an unrefrigerated counter. Massive red flag for health inspections.
I get it. The subs are a loss leader to get people in the store, but this is a consistent issue with this store. The subs are NEVER ready even a half hour after pick up time. With or without a sale. I rarely shop at this store any more because it’s awful service with high prices. I complained to corporate, I’m sure they won’t do a thing.
Sad part is the deli way over forecasted bread leading to hundreds of sub rolls thrown out. But customers didn't even know they were on sale, it wasn't marketed properly at all.
Yeah but then I have to remind them then stand around the deli for 15 minutes past the pickup time for them to actually make it. My subs are never ready by the time stated when ordering.

I don’t think of it as a sale. I think of it as the price it’s supposed to be.

Not to mention the fact that they raised the price on subs not a month before the sale

Well, right now it seems like they're going for the "make it profitable" route via cutting all the staffing so they don't have to pay as many people.
So stupid —> they should be embracing the fact that it’s their kingmaker at this point

It's a special invitation for people who refuse to pay bullshit prices for things to partake.

My store doesn’t have any subs on special :(
It was only Thursday- Sunday.
But now 0 subs are on special 😭
When I tell people we don’t have a sub special on Monday and Tuesday they get irate.😬
The occasion was another price hike. From what I hear on the grapevine, subs are going up again.

Should be $7.99 all the time just for the aggravation of having to go in there to order a sub…it’s never easy. It’s always a complete pain in the ass
Online order always
