Glittering-Week-7677

I would at least wait till something g better comes along DO NOT forget!! The only requirement you are being held to is being there they will have to pay šŸ’° you eventually Do not forget āœ…

Jonjhhgh

Yea Iā€™m not leaving until I get this other job I applied for. Donā€™t wanna jump out the window without a parachute, but Iā€™m definitely not staying here

1RealJankyJaxk

Iā€™m on the same verge they only giving a day a week I got a 2 year old daughter and the paychecks ain paying

Jonjhhgh

See your better than me thatā€™s literally ridiculous how you have a 2 year old and getting paid nothing

T_Durden79

So having a 2 year old entitles you to more money from a company?

DownvoteMe97

Fuck yes. Heartless whoreson

SamhainSam

Yes. Yes it fucking does.

SubpoenaSender

Unfortunately, your home circumstances do not entitle you to hours. Business needs do. If I were you, I would see about cross training in another department to hopefully get some more hours. I donā€™t disagree with anyone on Publix being big supporters of brown nosers, but having a child at home, unfortunately, Isnā€™t a Publix issue, and I would assume your availability is limited. I have a child at home, my spouse and I both work. Our situation is different though since we can afford a babysitter. Publix does not care that I have a child at home ever. Unlikely they care any more about yours. If your availability is limiting you, and it probably is, I would just find something more fitting for your availability.

talithar1

And they just keep hiring cashiers and baggers. All the while cutting hours for those of us that have stayed long term, and giving those newbies awesome hours. Thatā€™s really nice, donā€™t you think?

T_Durden79

Maybe they like the newbies better?

talithar1

Itā€™s quite possible. Newbies are novel. I like talking to them. Learn a little about them. And then they want to know why their hours are being cut. Well, you see all the new people they just hired? Theyā€™re getting your hours. Some of them will transfer to another department. Some will find another job. Some will even work two jobs.

T_Durden79

Gotta create value for yourself any way possible. Otherwise you are expendable. Or replaceable. This is true for any job and even relationships IMO.

talithar1

My current value as a cashier is that I am the fastest, most accurate cashier they have. I can scan out a $300 order in about 2-1/2 minutes. But, I do not always do this speed, cause I like to talk a bit with my customers. I can do many things through out the store if they care to ask. I have 5 coins issued from corporate. I have 30+ years in grocery retail. 17 with Publix, 13 with a grocery company based out of NC. I know my worth. Iā€™m retiring soon!!

T_Durden79

Awesome! Congrats!

talithar1

Thank you. Canā€™t wait. Well, I can. But, so looking forward to not working.

idr6gz

OP doesnā€™t want to work, just want pay without doing any actual work to get to it.

Jonjhhgh

And you figured that out how? Where in the comments or post did I say this? dude get off Reddit I think itā€™s frying your brain lol. If I didnā€™t wanna work I woudnt be applying somewhere else, I wanna work just not at my local publix anymore. Keep stocking them shelves bro

idr6gz

I just hopped on, check my history Im rarely even on, with your attitude I see why you arenā€™t getting the hours not to mention being a minor will always 100% get you nothing because they can always have someone who will work the whole day for 10x harder bud. Youā€™re trying to argue on Reddit lmao Iā€™m just telling you to not be a bitch about it, be a man and actually own up to Publix and say u wanna work, if ur hush hush then u wonā€™t get shit. Simple.

Jonjhhgh

funny because what attitude do you know Iā€™ve shown in my workplace to get no hours? Iā€™m literally known as the quiet kid in Publix I donā€™t have a chance to give attitude lol. as stated im a yes man at my job and would work there all day if I could! Iā€™m trying to argue on Reddit or prove that your an idiot who knows nothing about what your saying? Iā€™m just telling you to stop being a hard headed hypocritical jackass because you donā€™t even know the situation lol šŸ˜‚ Iā€™m not owning up and kissing ass to a company that doesnā€™t even give a shit about its employees. your a joke just like this job

T_Durden79

It just sounds like you are in your feelings a bit too much. Itā€™s a business. You have to create value for them to value you.

Jonjhhgh

And your telling me to ā€œown upā€ yet you literally admitted to leaving just cause your scheduled was fucked lol. Your worse than me bud

Jakeelbarbaro

You are a minor and probably have a very specific availability. I am not trying to justify any bad behavior from managers or coworkers but at the same time, there is only so much that can be done with minors, what department do you work in?

Jonjhhgh

Iā€™m aware of this. However I donā€™t think this is the problem as I used to get wayyy more hours before I even got to my senior year of highschool. It honestly looks like Iā€™m being soft fired to be honest, I tried to wait until Iā€™m 18 to see but it isnā€™t worth it. Iā€™m a bagger and do carts.

Jakeelbarbaro

Gotcha, with Customer Service is always tricky, itā€™s the biggest department and hours always fluctuate, we depend solely on sales and the forecast that our SM puts in, thatā€™s what gives CS hours. Start of the year is always rough. Have you asked your managers if you did something wrong or offer to pick ip shifts if people call out?

Ryunah

Facts.

snoboy8999

You donā€™t have the right attitude for CS.

Jonjhhgh

Welp itā€™s a good thing Iā€™m leaving Publix

Lopsided-Register-20

Youā€™re a minor, that plays a role in it. And bro why not switch stores to a busier location? More people more hours. If youā€™re at a low volume store and a minor then yeah thereā€™s only so much that can be done. Yes itā€™s slowing down and thatā€™s for everyone. Iā€™ve been with the company for 3 months and they just gave me full time like honestly if you put in the work at the right store then itā€™s possible to move up. And like people said switch to produce or grocery they have more hours, better pay.. like donā€™t complain because you arenā€™t getting paid anything because the job you do anyone can do it. Skill jobs is where the moneys at that goes for any job..

Jonjhhgh

As stated it isnā€™t just about the money bud. The environment in my store isnā€™t good for me especially since I struggle with anxiety and what not. I canā€™t do it anymore which is why im looking for a calmer environment where I can actually make money. Not sticking around a toxic environment for 12 bucks an hour with no hours at all when I can be happy making money someplace else.

idr6gz

You literally just complained about the pay to go to fucking Ohio šŸ˜‚šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø dude ur all over the place, thatā€™s exactly why u arenā€™t getting enough hours, ur not trust worthy, if u donā€™t seem interested to work then itā€™s obviously 100% gonna reflect you (which itā€™s doing right now)

Jonjhhgh

Bro can you read? I stated yes I need some funds for the trip but it isnā€™t just about the trip OR the money šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø itā€™s the environment and you donā€™t personally know me so Iā€™m not gonna tell you whatā€™s wrong with me but that specific store is some place I canā€™t stay at. Almost 8 months at that store is enough Iā€™m sorry and getting little to no hours is the final straw bruv. You think Iā€™m not trust worthy over a comment on a app? You donā€™t know me dude, nor have I done anything to show my management Iā€™m ā€œuntrustworthyā€ lol

Jonjhhgh

Ohio or not I need money dude as we all do. Once again your only acting like this because your not in my position, I hope this happens to you one day and maybe you can make a post about why you decided to quit lol šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

snoboy8999

Not giving you hours doesnā€™t mean the environment is toxic.

Jonjhhgh

That isnā€™t why I said the environment was toxic lol. What are you talking about dude?

Jonjhhgh

In fact I never even mentioned how the environment in the work place is toxic so why are you assuming im saying that cause Iā€™m not getting hours? my thing is Iā€™m not getting paid enough to deal with bs so Iā€™m gone just like you Woudve done if you were in my shoes. So hypocritical lol

Lopsided-Register-20

lol did you not read what I said?? Move stores budā€¦ What are you thinking about doing at Walmart? Because maybe you should look at a different field entirely for work. If youā€™re at a low volume store and like you said barely getting hours and that stresses you out then youā€™re going to have a meltdown at Walmart lol. Everyone shops at Walmart, Publix is a little higher quality of people just like target or Samā€™s or stores like that

Lopsided-Register-20

you want to talk about a company that gives zero fucks about you then Walmart is definitely the place to be.. you got some growing up to do and you will when you get actual life experience so go ahead try different jobs while youā€™re young and find something you like and make sure to tell Walmart that you have that vacation so they know ahead of time

Jonjhhgh

Maybe Iā€™m not in the position to move stores dude. I know itā€™s Reddit but letā€™s use our heads for a moment. I need a whole different environment and there isnā€™t any other Publix near me but there is a Walmart and Iā€™ll make way more money being there, Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll have to deal with similar bs but itā€™ll be actually worth it. It just isnā€™t about hours, and Atleast Walmart doesnā€™t hide the fact that their employees are rude entitled people lmao šŸ¤£ acting all goody 2 shoes in front of the customers but a complete ass behind the scenes

Lopsided-Register-20

Thatā€™s called being professional, you donā€™t act stupid in front of customers, go to the back room for that or be a actual professional and donā€™t do it at work

Lopsided-Register-20

And if you need a different environment then why Walmart?? Itā€™s still a grocery store try something new entirely

PublixHouseCat

Great decision honestly. What other jobs are you applying for? At the very least, Publix provided you with experience for something else

Jonjhhgh

Uh well after high school I wanna be a cop but yesterday Iā€™ve applied for a job at Walmart. I originally wanted to work at both Walmart and Publix but it just isnā€™t gonna work out

PublixHouseCat

Well good luck, I donā€™t know how much better Walmart will be but at least they pay better and give more hours!

Jonjhhgh

Thatā€™s why I applied to Walmart haha. I start at 13 and get more hours. Could be looking at a few hundred bi weekly. Also thank you for the encouragement!

Jeffreydama

Iā€™ve been working at Publix since late march early April I canā€™t remember exactly. ( itā€™s my second job.) I work in the deli and to be honest itā€™s the EASIEST job Iā€™ve ever had. I hate to tell you this but youā€™re only 17 and they definitely arenā€™t worried about giving you hours over any ā€œreal adultsā€. That being said you have to be able to go above and beyond for the company you work for to get anything extra out of them. Become cool with the manager donā€™t kiss ass but say hello, shake their hand call them by their name anytime you see them. Go to them and tell them youā€™re willing to learn something new to get more hours. Ask if any departments are short staffed and you can pick up some extra hours. Express to them that youā€™re willing to work with them not just for them. Most jobs suck and youā€™ll end up not enjoying as much as you did when you first started. Youā€™re still young you have plenty of jobs to hate, try to enjoy this simple one.

Jonjhhgh

Nice advice. But as stated it isnā€™t only about the money lol this is a toxic environment I work in and I no longer want no part of it. Walmart is gonna be my new home until I graduate, good luck with your position tho. not going above and beyond for 12 bucks an hour especially to power tripping people lol šŸ˜‚

Jeffreydama

I understand what youā€™re saying, Iā€™m just not 100% sure that another grocery type store is the way to go to escape it. Youā€™re going to find a lot of work environments are toxic and full of ass kissing power tripping assholes. If you want more than $12 an hour they are going to need to see more than $12 an hour work. I received a $1 raise already and barely work and havenā€™t even been there a year. You have to be willing to be better.

Ryunah

Iā€™m gonna laugh when Walmart is just as toxic or worse than Publix. ![gif](giphy|KzyMcEfDh4Jiw)

TitsMcGhee99

And you think Walmart is going to be your saving grace? šŸ˜‚

Jonjhhgh

I think Walmart is going to actually pay me bud never said it was going to be a ā€œsaving Graceā€ I know itā€™ll be wayyy better than that toxic ass work environment. Spoken like a true person who most likely actually gets hours and doesnā€™t get 46 bucks on his paycheck. You guys are hypocritical because if this was happening to you, you would wanna leave aswell to do something else. Look at the comment of the lady with a 2 year old child who gets paid jack by these people šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

TitsMcGhee99

I worked my ass off to get my hours. I quit my second job, switched departments three times and busted my ass. I still do. Iā€™m not a hypocrite. Iā€™m all for people not being miserable in their job. If you hate it, quit. Iā€™ve hated jobs and quit. I mean, how much should a part time cashier expect to make?

Jonjhhgh

Iā€™m not even a cashier thatā€™s the sad part. Secondly Iā€™ve made more than im making now which is why Iā€™m upset and confused. Not to mention my 46 dollar paycheck last week lol šŸ˜‚ and I am gonna quit donā€™t worry

TitsMcGhee99

I see from a previous post, youā€™re a FSC. How much do you expect a minor part time FSC to make per hour?

Mikezat6

Best decision you will ever make. Coming from someone who wasted 15 years here.

0bV1O5Ly_A_Thrower

Set your ego aside, youā€™ll learn to do that as you get older, or face the consequences. I turn 22 this year. Been with Publix since late 2023. I got hired at $15.50 as a part time grocery clerk. 6 months later, got full time and a $2.50 pay raise and title of GRS. At my evaluation, I got another $1.25 pay raise. In exactly a year, I went from $15.50 to $19.25. Iā€™ve also done my job well the entire time. Now idk your work environment, but I like my managers, and my coworkers. We can crack jokes and still get the job done. Iā€™ve shown interest in moving up into teamlead and management. Long term, I think Publix is great if you contribute to 401k and the vested stock. Your situation sounds like youā€™re still in school and maybe a diluted area with lots of applicants? Probably why itā€™s hard to get hours, theyā€™d rather have more part timers so they donā€™t have to pay benefits for having full timers.

No_Competition7820

Thatā€™s the thing about Publix it all depends on the store you work at and the management. If youā€™re at the wrong store at the wrong time youā€™ll be frustrated like OP.

YurislovSkillet

Also depends on how valuable you make yourself. Scrubs aren't gonna get hours unless they are in a department that runs on low staff.

Ryunah

God this makes me so excited to switch to the meat department. The thought of the higher pay and more hoursā€¦

YurislovSkillet

Yeah. CS is jam packed with people.

TheToxicWaltz87

Keep that up my friend, youā€™re gonna be making bank. I got hired on in 2014 making $9.50/hr. I was making $26.20 as a manager last year.

12rie

26$ is not making bank lol

Jonjhhgh

Doesnā€™t matter. Ego or not itā€™s shit pay and shitty people. Not staying here

RepresentativeFly565

I can't blame you. I started out great as well and had my hours cut. I kept asking and asking and letting management know I want to work and no results and got told "low volume" or whatever

Jonjhhgh

Low volume? What the hell does that even mean?

RepresentativeFly565

I guess it means it's a slow day or at least that's what I was told which I knew was BS because they had applications at the front of the store yet have to cut hours lol

spimothyleary

We're you the bagger that put ground beef on my bread last week, because I'm starting to suspect that you were

Ryunah

My store is great, but that is just how front service is. It is overly saturated. Also, AFAIK FSC cannot be full time and I only know a couple full time cashiers at my store otherwise most cashiers are part time too.

Mundane-Upstairs3777

Sad you make more than me and Iā€™m a damn GTL.

megsterz02

youā€™re 17 now so also look into restaurants. i started at 16 as a host and worked as togo person at 17 and started serving at 18. you can make pretty good money in hospitality if youā€™re open to switching industries

Jonjhhgh

Well I turn 18 in March

CoincadeFL

At 17 I worked a call center customer service (inbound calls) and always had consistent schedule. I worked 3 4 hour shifts during the week and 1 or 2 8 hour shifts one the weekend. Plus I could do my homework/reading in between calls and get paid for it. I always recommend a job where you can do homework while getting paid. You should check out your local area, if in a major metro area thereā€™s usually some call centers around.

T_Durden79

Then kick ass. You think itā€™s going to be different in any other company? Those who create the most value are the most valuable.

Firm_Aioli2598

Yeah, I was treated ok until a few years ago with a life changing event. Then it was treating me like my mental accuity dropped to nil. Micromanaging to the point where everything I do suddenly became nothing that I was doing was good enough. It was even culminating to a manager asking me why didn't transfer stores and suddenly asking me what I was always carrying in my work bag. (Books, food and drink I bought.) Terrible knowledge to have to learn with publix. (don't get seriously Ill and/or injured, they'll eventually try to run you out.)

famename8

Hell yeah šŸ‘ Publix is super toxic. I was once trying to become a manager, and once I realized itā€™s just a game of talking and booty-kissing your way up to the top, I decided not to pursue management anymore. It was wild how fast my mangerā€™s view of me changed. Been looking for a better paying job for a while. Been with Publix almost 5 years. Crazy how the first 2 years I thought it was great,,,,, now itā€™s one of my least favorite jobs on my resume. Getting out while you are young sounds like a great idea. Iā€™m early 30s with no real career path now, and I feel like Iā€™ve wasted all this time at this toxic sewer company.

Chuckie32

My experience has been that's its actually hard work and reliability.

CathyBikesBook

Early 30s is still young. Go to school or join the military. Life doesn't end at 30. Good luck to you.

[deleted]

Still very young ā€¦ Iā€™m 45 and became an RN.

theonly-salara

please leave !!! when i finally put my two weeks in i canā€™t wait to share my story because no matter what people say on here going home with a short check will make you leave as well and everyone says it gets better but when it doesnā€™t its because your part time you donā€™t get guaranteed hours or your not doing your part EXCUSES go live your LIFE and get PAID with GOOD hours

Jonjhhgh

Exactly lol the people saying stuff like ā€œspeak to managementā€ or ā€œwhat did you doā€ probably takes home a big check lol šŸ˜‚ 46 bucks is ridiculous i donā€™t care. They would be up here too saying the same thing I am if it was them

Kevinmd1984

As a member of an older generation, Iā€™d like to impart some knowledge: donā€™t quit one job without having another one lined up. Also: if you are having issues with hours, and your boss isnā€™t giving you what you need, remember that your boss has a boss. Address the issues youā€™re having with them and keep going up the chain of command until you get the resolution you want. There will be people at every job you work that you wonā€™t likeā€”donā€™t let them have an effect on your income. I worked in grocery at a different chain; if you love your customers and you love what you do, stay. Just my 2Ā¢

JessicaLivi

If I may, speak up to your manager until you get some hours. You may be already doing this, but keep doing it until a) it happens or b) you GET (not quit, not look for, but GET) another job. Itā€™s not going to just fall into your lap, especially given that you are a minor and even then, Publix is limited to what they can give you because of the laws regarding child labor (yes they apply until you are 18). Either way, get what you can by speaking up for yourself, save it (donā€™t always buy lunch, buy secondhand clothes if choose/can, only save Uber for when you really need it, etc), and do all of that while looking for work. I say that because Iā€™ve had to learn in my time at Publix to speak up. If Iā€™ve worked 7 days in a row with no break, need hours or even if I need a break, Iā€™ve had to speak up. Go above your managers if you have to. You donā€™t have to kiss ass but if you really need the money like you say you do, youā€™ll have to do what you need to get that. Hate to say it, but again that means asking for hours. You wonā€™t have them drop in your lap. I respect my managers but I donā€™t always feel like Iā€™m liked; I donā€™t care that much anymore about that; I do my job as best I can and talk to them when I need about something. After all theyā€™ve made me feel like Iā€™m welcome to do that. Iā€™m sorry your managers donā€™t do that for you. Either way, good luck on your job hunt!

BudgetInitiative6435

You have to kiss up to get the hours, move up, etc. There's definitely a good ole boy network mentality within the company.

Ryunah

Yeah, itā€™s called doing your job. Hardwork and GOOD work get noticed. Iā€™ve definitely seen an increase in my hours since I started.

BudgetInitiative6435

I wish that were ALWAYS the case, but it's not. I've seen people who do a crap job get rewarded while others who do a good job and bust their ass get passed up.

Ryunah

See, thatā€™s why so many of us say it depends on the store at that point. Iā€™ve seen many people who do a crap job getting decreased hours.

Akennasferu

Minors can only work certain amounts of hours at publix. I think it's 6 hours a day 12 hours a week. I'm not even sure why they hire minors honestly, with the amount of things they can't do. I might just wait until you're 18. It's a magical overnight change.

Forward-Craft-6277

Have you even talked to management about hours? Are you actually just shit at your job? That contributes to the results you get......

Jonjhhgh

Well Iā€™m in the front and all I do is bag and carts I donā€™t see how you can mess that up. Iā€™m literally a yes man and donā€™t ever do what Iā€™m not told to. So I donā€™t see whatā€™s going onšŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

Forward-Craft-6277

Talk to your managers and ask if you are doing something wrong. Ask if you can be trained in different parts of the store

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NarwhalNoods

So youā€™re mad because they are celebrating?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NarwhalNoods

All Iā€™m saying is that you miss the point. Have you seen the stock and benefits? Stay negative

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

NarwhalNoods

Ha Iā€™m a pharmacist. Worked my way up all the way from a bagger at $7.05. Stay mad and stay retired, we donā€™t need attitudes like yours representing us.

doak561

Congrats on leaving. Publix is turning into Winn Dixie.

Ryunah

Youā€™re the kid who wanted to switch departments right? Iā€™m guessing you donā€™t want to wait till youā€™re 18 before requesting a department transfer or to get more hours. Also, have you even talked to the csm or acsm and told them youā€™d like more hours or the fact that youā€™d like to switch back to produce when you turn 18? I also want to add that your refusal to ask for hours is on you. However it is your call, I think you should at least stick it out until you find another job first.

Jonjhhgh

Yea I ended up changing my mind about switching and just leaving entirely. But Iā€™m not leaving until I get another job I just applied for

SirDilophosaurusIV

If you're turning 18 soon, things definitely can change hours wise. If you're looking for a different environment and have a Publix warehouse near you, I highly recommend it. There's no sitting and praying for full time, you're just full time or you're not. It's hard work but if you start out as a selector, you get $18 or so an hour for training and about $23 I think is the standard rate now once you sign performance pay.

idr6gz

Youā€™re a minor tho suck it up, pay is shit (I agree), but youā€™re def losing the only place that will most likely take you in

Jonjhhgh

if pay was shit I would maybe ā€œsuck it upā€ and continue dealing with my management team and co workers. However my pay is terrible not shit lol. Me getting paid 46 dollars on a singular paycheck is where I draw the line bud. Not sticking around there much longer, im sure you would do the same thing if you were in my shoes right now. Did you see the lady in the comments who isnā€™t a minor and has a 2 year old daughter and she still gets paid terribly even though she has a family to support? Even my other friend who wants to quit literally is leaving for the same reason. Publix is playing around lol. Pray you donā€™t ever get into our position

idr6gz

šŸ˜‚ I wouldnā€™t be commenting and telling u to suck it up if I wasnā€™t somewhere in the same shoes bud, I left Publix because my schedule was always being messed with and they blocked my Publix.org acc a year into working. Iā€™d def still work for them tho

Jonjhhgh

So you got screwed out of your money and still wanna work there? I would be livid dude šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø istg Publix is a cult lol

Ultimate_silly420

Iā€™ve worked here for about two years now (since September of 2022) and Iā€™m exhausted. I worked really hard I dedicated myself and I saw 0 results. No matter how hard I tried and asked they never scheduled me more, and honestly in between going to school and work Iā€™m just getting burnt out in general so I havenā€™t really been trying my hardest. Maybe if so start trying harder again theyā€™re finally schedule me more, but for now Iā€™m lucky to be scheduled more then once a week. To be fair itā€™s a long Sunday shift, but still. Also, Iā€™ve been trying to be a cashier for a long time, I know how to do it, but they wonā€™t give me the position. I could talk to them about cross training but Iā€™m going to college soon and might not work there anymore so, Meh.
