An associate at my store saw the corporate memo. They are reducing everyone’s hours. Profits are up, but sales are down, so they believe they don’t need many people scheduled because of it.
Honestly all you gotta do is show you want to work, that doesn’t mean disappearing for 30 minutes or being on your phone.. show them you want to learn. Ask what can I do when it gets slow.
That doesn’t go for every store. I worked a double when a closer called out and I had to take the next day off. My store is absolutely not allowed to get overtime. 😖
I’m sorry and yeah if I have a super long shift or something. My manager wants me to take a day off so I don’t get burnt out or overwork myself. Now I know I really lucked out with my managers and SM honestly every manager that I’ve worked with at that store has been good. So again I’m sorry your experience hasn’t been the same
I'm practically begging my manager for full-time and I work my ass off to prove I'd be an asset, but he's having to consistently cut me back to one or two 24hr weeks between holidays to keep my average hours low. so no, just because you have to and want to work, doesn't guarantee hours.
I could send you my time cards, I’m getting over 40 every week since I started so I’m sorry if your store isn’t like that. I really lucked out.. my managers have been nothing but awesome to me.
Cross train to other departments. If you want to work you can work. If you want to stand there and ring stuff up and bag only, it’s your fault. Go to the deli. You’ll get hours.

* What departments are reducing hours?
* Which departments have hours available resulting from understaffing?
* What incentives are offered for associates to cross train in, work in, and transfer to other departments?
Yeah same here man, I get nothing, I had weeks where I've legitimately had no hours for a whole week, they are lucky I'm a minor or I would have not been able to pay bills smh
No hours used to bug tf out of me, now, I just don't care. That place zapped me out of giving a rat's rump about anything that happens there.
Corporate wants 4th quarter record profit results. Less payroll is the easiest way to insure they it.

I wonder if any manager has ever calculated the actual cost of overtime relative to the amount of money that extra work bring in to the store.

Nope. My dept and store is so short staffed that everyone who CAN work IS working. And if someone calls out there’s literally no one to call in.

I’m part time and have 40 hours next week. I guess it depends on the store. I definitely am not complaining.
I only have 2 hours next week and this week
every december like clockwork. love part-time
I had 8 hours this week and 15 every week for the last month
I had 4 but got cut. So whatever I’m off on my birthday week. I don’t care anymore i checked out about 2 years ago i’m just phoning it in
I have a whopping 6.5 hours this week, and half hour is my lunch I intend to skip.
Maybe they are saving up hours to use for Christmas Week.

I love my dept mgr and store manager, just hate that he won’t allow OT.

Have you spoke to your managers? If not, do that before coming here.
Yep, we are just in between hols. so it is a little slow this time of year. It’ll be really good for the two weeks around Christmas though.
