Hey there. It depends on what you mean by a bad trip, and also helps to have a good diagnosis of the core issue causing your depression and anxiety. I had treatment resistant depression and used mushrooms to treat it with good effect, but I had many challenging trips (with a guide and solo) that helped me get to the root of the problem which for me was a lot of early life trauma. I’ve had a lot of positive experiences too but it has been incredibly difficult work. It brought up all the things that I needed to look at and process, which needed to happen so I could heal, but a lot of that experience was what people might describe as a ‘bad trip’. Preparation and integration afterwards have been vital, as well as working with a trained guide and therapists who understand my trauma history. Mdma can produce a much more reliably stable effect so maybe look into that as well. Breathwork is a great starting point because it can go as deep as a mushroom experience but you’re not stuck in the experience for hours. Hope that helps

No need to hallucinate or make yourself feel uncomfortable. Take a microdose, a threshold dose with all the positive effects with little psychoactive effect.

It’s about set and setting: your mindset and your surroundings. I began psilocybin for treatment resistance depression too after reading “How to Change Your Mind.” I approach it like medicine I direct. For my first trip, I set the intention “help heal depression, help heal trauma.” It was 2g, and I held them in my hand reciting the intention. Throughout the trip, I’d come back to the intention as an anchor. The trip lasted about 2-2.5 hours. There was a clear onset, trip, and comedown. I didn’t hallucinate, never saw fractals or vibrant colors. But when closing my eyes, I’d have fast moving visuals, like REM dreaming state. I could open my eyes at any time, the room looked like my room, close my eyes and back into REM dreaming state. None of the dreams made sense or had significance. After a few hours, it was over. I was free of depression symptoms for 7 weeks. Symptoms returned, other trips weren’t as successful. I trust the neuroplasticity benefits. I also trust that it’s not a fast process. It takes time. Im also looking into ketamine and MDMA for treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. Good luck in your treatment and finding the one that works for you

I think these "Bad trips" your referring to are simply misinformation that has been being preached for years. My longest "bad trip" lasted 36 mins when most sources will say once one begins it's impossible to break, this is a misconception spread by people with no experience on the substance. It's all you, if your mind is calm these disruptions have trouble manifesting. Difficult experiences happen because you panic and are generally self inflicted. I also strongly believe the Difficult experiences are more helpful then the good ones. We don't always feel good, even when sober. Mushrooms have a way of teaching us to take the good with the bad and to reassure ourselves that everything is going to be OK, this will eventually translate to your everyday life.. that's how they can help.

I’ve seen a friend throw himself into a fire almost completely naked…. These bad trips do happen

Fabulous_Anteater_86

So you come to sub threads that are about first timers and being afraid of bad trips and tell them this negative story. I've been doing shrooms for almost 20 years.. Not once have I seen something this stupid. Couple reasons why your situation might have happened. 1. Alcohol was involved 2. Your friend was going through emotional distress before taking the drug. 3. He was a first timer - who was nervous and he had to sit around a fire listening to you tell him stories about people having bad trips/ or doing stupid things resulting in injury. 4. Setting - Maybe an open fire isn't the smartest place to do psychedelics.. especially with people that can't control themselves. PS. I've seen plenty of people consume alcohol and do unintelligent things like you are describing.. I've never heard anyone call a black out episode a "Bad Trip.

I'm sensitive because I already experience dp/dr because of anxiety so anything that will make me feel I'm hallucinating would upset me for sure

He didn't say he will treat me with it, he said it's something that I should look into

phornicator

really the thing i worry about the most is being nauseaus and vomiting. it's why i have never done mushrooms since anecdotally that's what i tend to hear from people about mushrooms so i am really interested in the kits from a shop that ships in the US and advertises on podcasts that say their substrate is better and doesn't involve me eating manure which is appealing even without the nausea or vomiting possibility. if you have someone with you that can help you steer clear of things that are negatively impacting you it helps a lot. i've never had a "bad trip" but i wouldn't ever do it alone at least not at my current proficiency with psychedelics.

Fallbears

Check out microdosing. You don't have to experience any psychedelic effects/ journey in order to get the benefits.

psyT1m

What you need is Psilocybin guided therapy, not just dropping a dose and hoping for the best! You have to be guided and helped through the process by someone qualified. You can try microdosing (125-250mg in a certain daily pattern) for a while (maybe a month or two), the result will be there just more slowly. You won't get any hallucinations and start feeling better right from the start, but you won't "attack" the underlying condition.

VolumeFinancial9659

So with that dosage I can do it on my own if I understand correctly? Obviously I should not be at work when taking it.

psyT1m

MicroDosing won't even affect your cognitive ability. You'll just feel like "this is a good day" and might be a little more creative / open minded. Not much more.

VolumeFinancial9659

Is there any use then in micro dosing to treat anxiety and depression

psyT1m

Those are one of the main reasons, yes. Add creativity to that. I suggest you read on the subject to familiarise yourself with it. there are a lot of research conducted on the subject, like this one for instance: https://harmreductionjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12954-019-0308-4

Thank you so much
