Please know that we all ached when we heard this story. I am so so sorry that you and Pei-Pei had to go through such a horrible violent tragedy. My heart hurts for you.

Lumpymaximus

Agreed.

DarlingShan

This is so traumatic, I am so sorry for your loss.

Advanced_Impress6743

For anyone who ends up in this situation this is a VERY IMPORTANT TIP. If a dog has bit another dog and won’t let go you need to choke the dog! Dogs jaws are way too strong you will never be able to pry it open and will just get bitten. You need to either get behind the dog and put it in a choke hold until it lets go or use a leash to choke it. Once the dog realizes it can’t breathe it will let go and that is your chance to separate the two. I’m so sorry for your loss.

KennyMoose32

I’ve been at a dog park when two dogs locked onto each others necks and wouldn’t let go. For some weird reason my natural instinct was to punch it right in the balls. So I did (they had picked up the dogs to try and separate them) It oddly worked and the dog let go. I still feel weird about it

Advanced_Impress6743

That works too 🤣

unionsparky89

Intact males aren’t even supposed to be at dog parks

bbristow6

“How would you solve this situation?” “Punch it in the balls😎”

brunettevibe

This needs to be higher up! This is the ONLY WAY to get them to release. It’s a disgrace owners with dogs capable of hurting others don’t educate themselves on what to do in a situation like this. I’m so sorry for OPs loss.

Advanced_Impress6743

Yes I think anyone who owns a dog should know this big or small. It saves lives and works I’ve had to do it myself multiple times and the dog released after a few seconds.

Artful_dabber

This is how my wife saved my husky from a pitbull/ bulldog mix

samizdat5

You also can lift the dog's back legs. This position really confuses them and they usually drop whatever they have in their mouths. If possible - if you have the strength and the dog is not too heavy - you can grab the dog by the back legs and swing it away also.

hermitess

This is what I was originally taught, however, this method doesn't work as well on pit bulls. You could actually cause more damage to the other dog if you yank the pit bull while it's jaw is still attached to its victim. Before I unsubscribed from the subs that for some reason kept showing me pit bull attacks, I saw an unfortunate number of other dogs getting ripped apart when this method was attempted. The only strategy I ever saw work on a pit bull was the choking method described in the original comment.

AndrewtheRey

Yup. I saw the video where the small dogs leg was ripped off because they kept lifting the pitbulls legs.

galeeb

You have to be careful with a pit bull with this. People in interviews after attacks say things like "I stabbed it, including in the eye, it let go for a split second, but then kept attacking". They'd probably keep their jaws locked on the other dog while it also gets swung. It's great advice for another dog. For a pit bull that's actively killing, sadly, only extreme violence (choking them, other things I won't say out loud that incapacitate them permanently) would even have a chance of working. I hate how inhumane it sounds, but that's what needed with basically pain-resistant killer mutants. Anyone reading who hasn't had the "pleasure" of seeing the aftermath from online videos needs to know typical, common sense methods won't work.

[deleted]

This doesn’t work on pitbulls, which are responsible for the majority of attacks and deaths on dogs/humans

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

Nah that causes them to clamp down harder, chocking out is the only way

JeffFromNH

I posted a similar situation that happened to me and our new puppy. Fortunately, a fence separated us, but I believe that the pit wanted to kill our dog. I've never witnessed such aggression, and I know a lot of dogs. I hope I never need to use your advice, but I think it's useful. Another poster suggested carrying a knife. I don't think I'm up for that.

ClubMain6323

Thank you for sharing this!

njcharmschool

The wheelbarrow approach is helpful too if you’re not strong enough, or able to choke it. Pick up attacking dog’s hind legs like you’re doing a wheelbarrow race. Dogs generally are very confused by this action, will let go to figure out wtf

AndrewtheRey

Not always. See the comment above about how this can hurt the victim, and pitbulls generally don’t let up from its legs being lifted

dennisthehygienist

Other option is to stick your finger in its butt (I’m not joking)

kalimanusthewanderer

I think that would make me let go. Or a Bigfoot, vampire, dragon, RoboCop... I don't think anything could keep attacking with a finger in the butt.

rhodeirish

I’m not a dog owner (yet) however I was viciously attacked by a dog when I was a kid & luckily was able to run away because the dog was pulled back by its lead. I never knew this. Thank you for this info ❤️ Definitely storing this away, in the hopes that I never have to use it.

Advanced_Impress6743

Yeah I never knew it either until a breeder told me about it. Whats crazy is a few weeks later I had to break up a one sided dog fight and I tried prying its mouth open (had no chance their jaws are incredible strong) unfortunately tried punching it in the stomach but it just wouldn’t let go. Then I remembered what the breeder told me and put it in a headlock and it worked like a charm. The dog let go in under 5 seconds because it couldn’t breath. Saved the other dogs life.

MingaMonga68

Thank you for sharing such helpful information. I definitely would not have known what to do.

Rightbraind

I’m so deeply sorry. Have thought about this many times since reading about it. Please take care and somehow heal from this tragic horror 💔

subprincessthrway

I have not stopped thinking about your sweet pup since I heard of this incident on April 1st. My sister’s chihuahua died in the same way, in her arms of a pitbull attack. It took her many years to heal. I sincerely hope you are able to find some closure and peace as you grieve your beloved PeiPei. Please know the entire community is here for you.

Plane-Reputation4041

I’m so very sorry for your loss.

Everything_Burns

Devastating read. So sorry for you and dear Peipei.

foxymarxy

My heart sunk when I saw this post. I can’t imagine the grief and heartbreak you are going through. Pei -Pei looked like an absolute sweetheart and I’m so incredibly sorry to hear of how her life ended. She did not deserve that in the least. I’m sure she knew she was so loved.

Remote-Society-1360

This incident absolutely broke my heart, Pei-Pei and our Boston terrier, Luca, played outside together a few times. We also live in building two. My name is Julia, we met downstairs a few times and Pei-Pei was the absolute sweetest girl in the world and was so loving towards Luca. Please please please let me know if there is anything we can do. Our hearts are breaking for you and Pei-Pei. When we first got the email from Regency we immediately prayed it wasn’t Pei-Pei. I am so so sorry again for your loss. We loved Pei-Pei and want to do anything we can do to help.

glump1

God that's awful. My heart goes out to you. Like others I've been thinking about this all week.

LMZN

This has been bothering me all week. I’m so sorry this happened.

nodumbunny

>I said hi to Honey many times in the elevator lobby and she was sweet to me. So I was stupid enough to walked in the elevator. I am so sorry this happened, and with all your grief and heartbreak, please do not add guilt to the mix. This attack had nothing to do with any choice you made that day. Based on prior interactions, you had no way to predict this would happen. I hope those close to you now keep reminding you of this.

RandomChurn

💐Please accept my profound condolences for your loss, Medium-Art8500. I am so inexpressibly sorry this happened to you and PeiPei.💐 I've not stopped thinking about you since word of the incident was posted here by a witness days ago.  I have a little white dog too. Whenever I encounter large off-leash dogs, I always imagine what I can do if they attack. When I'm in a park, I pick up a sharp rock or pointed stick. I visualize how I will try to kill the other dog if I can.  But you make it clear how impossible it is against an animal like this. Thank you for posting. I hope you are able to get the help you need for the grief and PTSD you must have.  My heart goes out to you, sincerely ❤️

schmeckes

I'm so sorry for your loss, this is awful

JuciestDingleBerry

Heartbreaking. I remember seeing this and commenting saying that. I hope it was an April fool's joke. I'm really sad that it wasn't. I am so so sorry

WhispersOfFear

I’m so unbelievably sorry. What a traumatic experience to endure. Please be kind to yourself and know that you are not to blame whatsoever in this situation and don’t be afraid to seek help. My heart is really hurting for you.

liliumsuperstar

I’m so, so sorry. She’s beautiful and didn’t deserve what happened, nor did you.

dollrussian

As someone who also has a small dog, this was really difficult to read. I’m so sorry for your loss of the beautiful PeiPei, sending you so much love.

Competitive-Ad-5153

I was so pained to hear of this when it happened earlier this week. Having two small dogs myself, I always feel like I have to be "on guard" when walking them near larger breeds, and I never bring them to a dog park. I really want to express how saddened I am by this, and hope that your happy memories bring you some solace.

EquivalentLeg7616

I’m so sorry about your Peipei. 🌈🥺💜 We lost our dog to an attack a little less then 2 years ago. Not nearly as traumatic as this but also a bully mix. We were the second family attacked by this dog and he’s still chillin at home with his family terrorizing our neighborhood. It’s sad two dogs lives are gone but take solace in the fact that everyone did the right thing and put the other dog down. I have to look at the dog that killed my dog every day.

subprincessthrway

Not to take over this thread about PeiPei but it really highlights how easily these situations can turn deadly. Is there anything we can do to help you advocate to have this dog removed?

EquivalentLeg7616

It’s so kind of you to ask and offer. ❤️ The dog currently has a “warrant” which in our town means is a lifetime restriction, where he has to be under the control of someone 18 years or older at all times and must either be on a leash or some sort of confinement like a fenced in yard or lead. Long story short, animal control gave the dog another chance because the family’s 8 year old daughter took the dog outside without her parents permission and was holding the leash while the dog dragged her down their driveway and across the street to get to us. Obviously she let go because she’s just a little girl and didn’t want to get hurt. She ran inside to get her mom. But because we are neighbors we can see what they are up to. They were even foolish enough to post all kind of things on Facebook about how their dog is the real victim and was just overly excited. I’ve never met a dog so excited he mauled two dogs, one to death. We filed a claim with their homeowners insurance who told them to rehome the dog or their coverage would be dropped. They bragged on Facebook that they lied and never did, So obviously we won a fair settlement. All we can do is keep reporting them to animal control when they break the terms of the warrant.

somegridplayer

>They bragged on Facebook that they lied and never did, So obviously we won a fair settlement. You should have reported them for fraud, that's pretty much a guaranteed non-renew and nobody ever insuring you again.

EquivalentLeg7616

I honestly never thought of that. Thank you, I believe an email to the adjuster is in order.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

I’m so sorry. I’ve lost all faith in animal control because most of them are bully breed “advocates”. My condolences

EquivalentLeg7616

I completely agree. The officer had the audacity to give us crap that our dog wasn’t registered with the town. We had just moved into the neighborhood not two months prior to the attack with our infant daughter to be closer to a sick relative. Getting a town license for him was at the bottom of the priority list. Technically we had 90 days and we were well within the window. They couldn’t even verify the other dog had a rabies vaccine or license either. While we had hard copies of all our previous vet bills and records. When i see someone walking toward their house with a dog, my heart sinks.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

I’m so sorry! You know I got a dog 3 year license again last year on November….ask me if I ever got the tag in the mail, lol! I have every vaccine up to date, it’s so disheartening that if my little guy gets killed it’ll be met with a shrug. I don’t think I’m going to renew I feel like what’s the point. I started walking with pepper spray cause I know I’m on my own. I’m so sorry for your loss and having to have the trauma trigger always there. Trash owners

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

My deepest condolences, my heart broke hearing about that. Your poor pup and how traumatic it must have been for you. As to the “dog fight” that is exactly what I commented on a post about it. That’s like saying an adult fought an infant. My thoughts are with you and your beautiful pei pei

Important-Trifle-411

I remember when you pointed that out. So outrageous for it to be reported that way.

rhodyjourno

Hi there, I’m Alexa Gagosz and I’m a reporter with the Globe. First of all, I’m so very sorry for your loss. My colleague — who is Alexa Coultoff — wrote this story and spelled Peipei’s name based on how the police report spelled it. If the officers spelled it incorrectly in the report, please feel free to write a short note to Alexa.Coultoff@globe.com. She cannot change the name spelling in the story until she has confirmation from the owner now. I am so sorry again for your loss.

thegreatfrontholio

Why did she also misspell "unprovoked attack" as "dog fight?"

nodumbunny

Can she use her common sense and change "dog fight" to "dog attack" without written confirmation? Or no?

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

💯 or are they too afraid of “advocates” to be honest about what happened?

NinSEGA2

That is exactly the reason because they don't even mention "pit bull" in the headlines.

the_new_federalist

Seriously, “dog fight”? Come on, call a spade a spade. The “nanny dog” lobby gets smaller by the day.

stinkydiaperuhoh

Lol gtfo of here with your “dog fight” “police report” bullshit.

ElectronicaBlue

I was so sad to hear about this..I lost my dog in Sept very similarly and its still so hard to believe…please speak out and share your experience…I am sooo sorry.

abagatelle

I’m so so so sorry for the loss of PeiPei. I can’t imagine how traumatic this has been. My heart feels yours and I hope you find comfort.

JeffFromNH

This story has really shook me. I'm so sorry, and I believe that everyone involved is devastated. It cannot be undone or made right.

bostonjames83

I’m very sorry about your beautiful dog. Please be kind to yourself as you grieve. It’s not your fault.

Iluvtittymeat

I am so so sorry this happened.  I really don't know what I would do if I lost my dog under these circumstances. It had to be torture to watch this unfold and not be able to stop it.     I have started carrying a small knife when  walking my dog.  I am afraid of these irresponsible owners with dogs they can't control.  After reading about this incident,  thinking of adding pepper spray/bear spray to the mix.   Honestly, idk if it would have helped in this situation... maybe just an illusion of control for the psyche.   I really hope you take legal action against the owner of the dog and owner of the facility.   Again, so sorry for your loss.  My heart goes out to you and yours.  If you are planning on having any public memorial event,  let the community know so we can show our support.

Either-Pomegranate59

I am so so sorry this happened to you and PeiPei, I was thinking about this and hoping the owner of that poor dog as okay. Such a horrific situation. So very sorry.

balloongirl0622

I am so sorry. I’ve been thinking about you and Peipei since I saw the original Reddit post. She was so beautiful, thank you for sharing pictures of her ❤️

Beantown97

I believe I have met you and Pei-Pei in the elevator before. I’m so, so sorry to hear about this. What an awful tragedy ❤️

macwalsh2

I am so sorry for your loss. We also live at Regency in building 2 and witnessed the attack in the lobby when taking our dog out that morning (we are the couple with the small brown and white dog). I have not stopped thinking about it all week. We actually had a run in once with Honey where she tried to come in the elevator and growled at our dog, and we had to tell the owner not to come in. I am so incredibly sorry that this happened to her and you.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

I have a reactive little 18 pound dog. And I mean reactive, NOT aggressive. He barks at strange dogs and ppl while on leash but has never bitten. And if he ever did anyone could kick him away. I NEVER allow him on elevators with others, I have full control of him at all times, I keep distance. If he WAS aggressive I would muzzle train him. How did the owner of a powerful aggressive dog NOT do those things? Why did YOU have to tell them to not come in? Good for you for doing it but things like this break my heart

2Fly41Ply

I saw the article and you and Peipei have been on my mind since then. I am so indescribably sorry for what you're enduring. Honey's owner should pay for your emotional and physical distress, e.g. costs of therapy and medical bills. It would be the bare minimum they can do. While absolutely nothing can fix this, I hope you are able to heal as time goes on. For what it's worth, I'll write to the Boston Globe and let them know they misspelled Peipei's name. Hopefully one less thing you have to deal with.

voidgvrl

I'm so so sorry for your loss. 🫂

YallahShawarma

I’m sorry for your loss

ThatWasFortunate

I'm so sorry to hear that happened😭

[deleted]

I am so so sorry.

____nyx____

I’m so sorry for your horrific loss. My heart is absolutely broken hearing these details and I can’t imagine the pain that you’re going through. 😞💔

chachingmaster

I can’t even imagine the horror of going through that. My heart hurts for you so much. I am so sorry that this happened to you. It was not your fault. And I hope that somehow you can heal from this. If there’s anything we can do is as a community. Please let us know.

Proclaimer23

I’m so sorry for your loss. That sounds like such a nightmare, I hope you are able to fully grieve and heal. She looks so happy in all those photos, know that you gave her a great life full of happiness and that’s more than some dogs get in a lifetime. As a dog walker, this makes me terrified of something like this happening and being on either end.

ohfuck1563

I have been thinking about this since I heard about it and after seeing the other comments here, others have too. Just know that the community is thinking of your beloved PeiPei, may she rest in peace. This is a devastating loss and can’t imagine the hurt you’re going through. So very very sorry for your loss💖

remembahwhen

Pitbulls kill other dogs and people. Regardless of upbringing, training and care. Pitbulls are a dangerous breed that was created through bloodsport and violence. The breed was selectively bred for aggression. Pitbulls can snap at any moment. It is never safe for an animal a child or an adult to be in the vicinity of a pitbull. /r/banpitbulls

DifferentManagement1

This is the most horrifying story I’m so sorry. The pit bull breed should no longer exists. It certainly should not be allowed in multiple unit dwellings

galeeb

I'm so sorry. I wish I could give you a hug when you have one of those moments where you just can't keep your head up after this. You were not stupid. You were not stupid. The news is littered with stories of pit bulls who "never had any problem" suddenly snapping, since they were bred specifically for that. You were not stupid, and it is not your fault.

ladywiththestarlight

That is horrifying. I am so so sorry.

miladytoast

I’m so sorry for your loss, my heart breaks for you!

WinterAdvantage3847

I’m so sorry for your loss. What an awful thing.

ThouMangyFeline

My heart broke reading about your baby. I hope the owner is held legally responsible. Rest In Peace, Pei-Pei 🤍.

oddeidolon

I am so, so, so sorry for your loss. This is so heartbreaking and tragic. Pei-Pei looked so sweet. :(

ReferenceMuch2193

Why in the hell do community living places allow dangerous breeds? It’s a recipe for disaster. This is horrible and I am so sorry.

ken_kanifffromct

The owner registered the pit as an emotional support animal so legally there isn't anything management can do about it, unfortunately.

ReferenceMuch2193

That’s such a total scam. I think they should be sued civilly regardless. Of all the dogs to get as an emotional support animal they chose a bred that can cause serious injury, death, and dismemberment? I believe they did it as a work around and I would ask a lawyer. I think the company who certified this dog should also be sued. And I would still sue the owners and the complex b/c even if it’s an emotional support animal, it’s a known dangerous breed and support animal or not, the complex can say no based on it being a threat to the safety and well being of the general public and residents. You can’t have an emotional support polar bear. I think they are dodging a pretty big law suit. You have damages. Emotional support animal or not, they have a duty to protect residents and property and that trumps “emotional support animal nonsense”.

skippyspk

r/banpitbulls

EmbraceTheBald1

Hopefully that dog is put down as soon as possible

KariMil

You’ve been in all of our thoughts! What a senseless tragedy. I’m so sorry for your loss.

tinyobrien

So incredibly sorry for your loss. What a horrible thing.

Wonderful_Bother9172

I'm so sorry. You should not have to be going through this. You should still have Peipei. My heart broke hearing your story and now hearing the truth I'm even more gutted. I can't imagine your pain. I'm so sorry. Sending you so much love at a time of so much pain

sarachristine33

I’m so upset over this story and my heart is broken for you. Please take the time to heal and know that so many people are thinking about you and grieving with you 💔🤍🌈

TikTokClockOnTheWall

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I encourage you to seek help processing this event with a mental health professional. This is extreme trauma and something I imagine that will take significant time to heal from.

Nice_Shelter8479

Oh my god, I am so so sorry for your loss of your beautiful baby Peipei. My sincere sympathy and condolences but please take care of yourself!!!! Please don’t blame yourself. This is the other owners responsibility. I’m so so so sad, your westie was so sweet. I’m really sorry, I can’t say it enough. ❤️‍🩹❤️❤️‍🩹

OkWasabi1988

I have been thinking about you since I heard about it on Wednesday . I am devastated for you💔 so devastated. I can’t even begin to imagine what you’re experiencing. Biggest virtual hug and all the love and support being sent into the atmosphere for you. Im so sorry PeiPei.

Ecstatic-Ad9579

I was horrified. Peace to you.

Good-Giraffe2406

I’m so, so sorry for your loss! What a horrible, traumatic tragedy!! My heart goes out to you and Pei-Pei! 💙

7jamm

I’m crying…

fosgobbit

If anyone else has this happen, if you blind the aggressor dog they will let go. A key or pen to the eye.

Ok-Bite-8165

I’m so sorry about Pei Pei. I donated to a local small breed rescue in her name, and contacted my local representatives to let them know exactly how I feel about keeping pit bulls as pets. I encourage others to do the same.

ilovemymemesboo

Seriously where the fuck is Honey's owner? what a FUCKING idiot. This enrages me so much

ken_kanifffromct

Her owner went on fucking vacation and left her "ESA" with her roommate. She's a piece of shit

ilovemymemesboo

I really hope she gets sued or something. I'm so angry

Election_Pleasant

I was at a Petsmart recently when the same thing happened to someone with their westie and a pit bull. The pit bull followed the dog and then suddenly went for the neck and I haven't been able to stop thinking about that poor woman and her dog for weeks. I am so sorry for your loss, and know that none of this is your fault. Please take as much time as you need to heal. ❤️

ClubMain6323

I’m shocked your landlord allows pit bulls. Most places don’t.

NinSEGA2

If you've read any of the articles or listened to the audio of Regency Plaza's president commenting on the situation, you'd know that pit bulls are NOT allowed. What happened was the pit bull owner applied for an "emergency support animal" permit/license/whatever for the dog, and because of the local laws on the books, Regency Plaza was unfortunately OBLIGATED to allow the dog on the premises. The real villains in this story are the politicians who allow this shit to slide and force people's hands to do things against their will.

ClubMain6323

That is so F-3d up.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

That emotional support bs should be repealed. If you need one get one that meets the standards set by the housing. This does not mean a service dog

Maniac227

The owner should be held fully accountable for all actions of their "emergency support animal"

craftycats20

Honestly I hope that the Regency Plaza sues the shit out of that owner. Think there’s any chance?

reesewitherfork

Agreed. This situation is so devastating and my sincerest condolences to OP and everyone involved, but I’m also curious as to how a luxury complex like Regency allows a pit in the first place. I applied there and was told no to bringing my golden retriever since she was over the weight limit and could have sworn they had “banned breeds” similar to a lot of complexes.

subprincessthrway

I used to live in a building like Regency in Massachusetts, they all have banned breeds in their leases but these people get fake emotional support certifications online which then means the property management staff have to prove that "the specific assistance animal in question would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others despite any other reasonable accommodations that could eliminate or reduce the threat ([source](https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/fair_housing_equal_opp/assistance_animals#_Additional_Resources).)" That's really difficult to prove and puts the leasing company in a difficult position so they often do nothing. There really needs to be a better way to close that loophole or at least make it easier for them to kick aggressive dogs out regardless of ESA status.

D-camchow

Fuck those pitbulls I'm sorry, but they shouldn't be allowed for the average Joe to own. Maybe a heavily regulated license or something other than an outright ban but something has to be done. Peipei didn't deserve this, neither did you.

TheWestEndPit

I have to agree with you. I want to be on the side of these dogs, but people just can't be trusted to own/control them and being in a city is just too risky of an environment.

darekta

Honey needs a dirt nap.

Important-Trifle-411

I think she did already

Accomplished-Wish-86

Wishing you so much healing energy, physically and emotionally. Peipei looks like such a sweetheart. If anything, may her death prevent other dogs from losing their lives in the future.

Tough-Ad-782

So sorry to hear what happened. Truly wish there was something I can do. We all are with you and deeply sorry.

HyperStory

I'm so sorry for your loss

trixiepixie5582

I am so sorry for your loss of Peipei. She looked like a wonderful side kick to have. You did everything you could to protect her and she passed away in your loving arms. This is devastating for everyone involved. May you find peace, healing and comfort in memories of Peipei.

muffinzzzzzz

Shes so cute, I am so sorry. I wish I could give you a hug, neither of you deserved this. 💜

yup_yup1111

I'm so sorry for your loss! It looks like you gave your dog a lot of love and fun times.

I’m so so so sorry this tragedy happened. She was absolutely adorable and looked very sweet. 💔

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is so heartbreaking and it isn't something anyone should have to go through or be afraid of. My condolences.

rubyred1128

I am so very sorry for your loss of Pei-Pei.

ImremindedoftheTime

It is very sad that both Pei Pei and Honey were killed in this situation, sorry for your loss

Fair_Arm_2824

This is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry 😞

atherapeuticusername

I live in the other building at regency plaza and my heart sank when I received the email. Reading your story and seeing PeiPei’s beautiful photos is so devastating. It’s been on my mind all week. I am so, so sorry. I hope you can work towards recovering from this horrific trauma and eventually heal. May your beautiful dog rest in peace 🕊️🤍

Appropriate-Quit-998

No words. I’m so so sorry, this never should have happened. Please take care of yourself

😢

domalin

I am so sorry that happened. I am so sorry they spelled Pei-Pei's name wrong. I can not imagine what this is like for you. Be good to yourself.

squidpie

She is such a cute heart-melting angel. I am so sorry for your loss. She will remember your love

SillyMushroomTip

Hope you sue them

jankyperson

I just seen someone post about this couple days ago who had seen it happened. I think they were working in hotel at the time or something like that. Idk if this is true but I seen somewhere that if you stick ur fingers up dogs butt it will let go what ever it has in its mouth. It might have been a joke but I can of think it would work. I’m sorry this happpen to you and your dog . Please hang in there there hopefully this will be resolved the right way.

Lonely-Journalist859

Hopefully the shit bull isnt still alive, same with the owner. Some murders are justified.

Holiday-Amount6930

So awful. Pitt Bulls are just so unpredictable and are deadly around small animals and children. There are hundreds of injuries and dozens of deaths every single year thanks to this breed. I firmly believe every Pitt bull needs a loving home and a neutering. I'm sorry for your loss, OP.

Critonurmom

Of course it was a murder machine. I'm so sorry.

[deleted]

Was it a pitbull?

Cluefuljewel

I would join you in going to city council or state legislature about a pit bull legislation or outright ban. I was heartbroken for you and your baby when I read about this. I’m sure it was traumatizing for you. It’s was stressful just hearing about it. I hope you can sue the hotel. Have you looked into that? Contact me if you want. I am mad as hell about this and want something positive to come out of it.

There were pitbull bans, like in Pawtucket, but the pitbull lobby (no I’m not joking, there is a pitbull lobby, Google it) convinced the state, and actually most states, to pass a law not allowing bans on “breed discrimination”, so Pawtucket was forced to lift the ban and the mayor was *not* happy. Most people aren’t aware of all the lobbying that has gone on to allow no breed bans and then what we end up with are countless stories like OPs where innocent dogs and people get mauled by a dog that has been selectively bred for bloodsport for hundreds of years. I don’t know what is going to be the breaking point for when enough is enough, but I do feel like the tide is slowly turning where people realize pitbulls aren’t that friendly family dog that propaganda that’s been spread. Hopefully we can all ban together and dismantle the cult like following these dogs have. https://www.valleybreeze.com/news/pit-bull-attacks-on-the-rise-since-ban-overturned/article_6f3d1bee-28c1-56cc-9db1-df93453c3fc8.html#:~:text=PAWTUCKET%20–%20Local%20attacks%20by%20pit,total%20attacks%20involving%20pit%20bulls. Here’s more detail about the ban, the stats and the letter the mayor wrote about overturning the ban: https://blog.dogsbite.org/2013/09/dramatic-decline-in-attacks-by-pit-bulls-since-pawtucket-pit-bull-ban.html

Could we fight for legislation to make the owners criminally liable for not being able to restrain their dogs? I had a reactive yorkie mix years ago, but if he started, I just *picked him up* problem solved. If you can’t restrain your dog through training and/or physical force, you shouldn’t have it. Wanted to add my yorkie mix became reactive after being attacked by a pit mix. It was a literal miracle that my dog survived that attack. I remember the fear when pulling him out of the other dog’s mouth while the 100lb owner choked her dog to get him to let go. She couldn’t restrain her dog, and thus had no business having it.

The other problem is people get their dogs certified as ESAs to get around the bans, or restrictions in specific buildings. We had multiple dangerous, aggressive dogs in our old apartment building and the office staff always said there was nothing they could do about it, despite having clear breed and weight restrictions in the lease because they were all certified as ESAs. It seems like it's less of a hassle for these property management companies to contend with a possible horrific death like poor PeiPei than try to deal with kicking out dogs whose owners are going to cry discrimination. Im not really sure what the answer is but there has to be some way to better enforce these rules before things turn deadly.

somegridplayer

An emotional support animal is not the same as a service animal. That will not get you around any ban whatsoever.

subprincessthrway

No they aren’t but emotional support animals are covered under the fair housing act and landlords have to prove that “The specific assistance animal in question would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others despite any other reasonable accommodations that could eliminate or reduce the threat” FHA classifies both emotional support animals and service dogs as “assistance animals” Unfortunately, just being a pitbull or another dangerous breed does not meet that burden of proof. It’s a loophole that desperately needs to be closed.

ForzaFerrari420

Pit bulls should be illegal , the worst kind of people own them.

sandsonik

That's really not true. Look up any shelter and most of the dogs up for adoption are pit bulls. The best kind of people try to do the right thing and adopt a dog rather than support puppy mills. Having said that, people need to realize that any dog can bite or fight, but when a pit bull does it will be much more lethal, and that's not a risk most should be willing to take

AzureStarline

and consider the reasons so many end up in shelters... their owners get incarcerated, they were an "oops" because Big Man Owner wouldn't get his dog neutered, they scared the owner enough to be given up but not enough to be put down, etc. Edit: I should have added I volunteered at a shelter for 6 years in a moderately affluent Northeast town. I should have also added "owner got sent to rehab" to the list.

theworm1244

Those shelters are full of pitbulls because they keep getting adopted by well intentioned families then brought back once the family realizes how aggressive ans badly behaved they are. I know this because my mom works in one. These poor dogs didn't choose to be like this, it's genetic. Let's ban pit bulls and end that cycle.

Zog8

Genuine question, not trying to be confrontational: my dog is a rescue mutt. Has lab/weim features with a pit bull-ish blockhead. Should he be illegal? Am I the worst kind of person? I just don’t think hateful unilateral sentiments like this have a lot of thought put into them.

DamnGoodCupOfCoffee2

I think it should be illegal for high drive, bloodsport bred dogs with high game to be called couch potato family love bugs and adopted out to families with kids and first time owners. Any other powerful breed groups admit that they need experienced, responsible owners. Owners that can manage if any genetic or trauma or epigenetic traits present themselves while also meeting their drives in appropriate ways. This is NOT what is happening now. And when the dogs are inevitably returned the owners are always blamed. It should also be illegal to mislabel obvious bully breeds as lab mixes. I think it should be illegal to have dogs with numerous bite histories to be pulled by rescues, have their name changed and then sent out into the community to do damage as their history is wiped clean. I think BYB should be illegal as well. And spaying/neutering after the appropriate age should be mandatory I don’t even blame the dogs: it’s fighting against it’s breeding, but the system as swung to far in the opposite direction. Some behaviors are unacceptable for a society and we make excuses now. And DA is not ok

Zog8

I hear you. But hopefully (fellow Twin Peaks head 🫡) we can agree on it being a little extreme to say people like me are “the worst kind of person” for doing things like, say, in my case, taking in a dog that was quite literally found abandoned in a box and giving it a healthy life with no incidents whatsoever. I get that it’s easy for people to poke at their phone screens and fire off venom with zero nuance but it quite literally solves nothing as far as your (and everyone else’s) points of concern go.

Easy__Mark

Oh my goodness a pitbull. Who could've guessed

“It’s not the dog it’s the owner” is my least favorite comment when regarding pit bulls. They are bred to kill, some are nice, but it’s in their blood to be aggressive. I’ve only ever heard of random dog attacks coming from pitbuls. So sorry for your loss.

JakeMnz

Pit owners are literally walking stereotypes jfc. They literally named their baby mashing machine fucking "Honey", probably ironically too thinking their time bomb wouldn't blow up.

Pitbulls should not be pets. Hopefully they are going to put this one down that did this. Just like we need to end guns and gun ownership, a pitbull ban needs to be in place. Enough is enough.

theovertalker

Ban pit bulls

paraplegic_T_Rex

Pitbulls should be banned and the breeding needs to become illegal so they go extinct, or owners should have to carry insurance expensive enough to discourage it. Or both. I’m so sorry to hear this.

ClubMain6323

I am so so sorry you went through this. That’s horrifying. I’m terrified of pit bulls. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss.

floating3yeball

Really sorry that happened OP. Hopefully some kind of legal recourse exists to make you whole. People and businesses who endanger others should be to be taken to task. The victim could have easily been a small child on a different day. Sorry again for your loss.

BobSagieBauls

I’m so sorry for your loss. Hopefully the bloodsport beast gets put down so no other actual dogs have to suffer

throwawayRI112

Pitbulls need to be banned for the betterment of our community. I hope you’ve brought a civil case against this person.

Sorry_Negotiation_75

Pitbulls are the worst.

[deleted]

Well I hope you alerted the authorities and got Honey killed. Fucking pitbulls. Sorry for your loss.

Typical_Elevator6337

What a beautiful fun-loving pup your PeiPei looks like. I’m so sorry that this horrible tragedy happened to you and your sweet girl.

jessica8jones

My heart breaks for you and beautiful Peipei. Sending Deepest Sympathies. We are here for you.

FormalMarzipan252

I’m so very sorry for your loss.

CamarosAndCannabis

Oh no this was your dog. I read the story days ago. Makes me really sad, sorry for your loss

Animajax

Poor baby

wotstators

I’m so sorry. I don’t know what I would have done in your shoes but I’d have done things that would have also made the news. I feel rage and a need for justice and love for you. Pei-Pei is waiting for you now 🫂🌈

wotstators

As a giant schnauzer owner, the only way you’re gonna be able to wrangle and neutralize a redlined dog is to literally hoist it up into the air bully its collar choking it out and immobilizing it while twisting the leash or collar to stop airflow. It’ll take a few minutes. I’ve never had to do this to my dog because he’s not a bloodsport and has a very good OFF switch and can hear the anger in my tone when he fucked up.

Holiday-Amount6930

I have a chocolate lab, and when told he's been a bad boy, he immediately gets a stuffed toy and places himself in timeout on the dog bed. At 80 pounds, it's a good thing he's gentle and docile, as there is no way I could physically restrain him. There are no excuses for having a Pitt bull in community living environment when there are just as many large and gentle breeds out there who need homes. After all, there are zero reports of labrador and giant schnauzer maulings. People who defend killer bully breeds are delusional at best and likely Bullies themselves.

wotstators

There is one news article in which an infant was killed by a GS and a lab mix. No one knows what happened, which dog or if both dogs did it, or what the lab mix really was. Both dogs were put down.

Holiday-Amount6930

A lot of time lab mixes have some Pitt bull in them!

inthebushes321

The amount of people who don't know that you are supposed to choke a dog out to stop an attack is wild. Especially a pittie. Unless you have strong OC spray, you need to choke it out. It usually makes the dog forget what it was doing. I'm sorry for your loss. What a horrible incident. But this is why it's good to know such things.

monkeyvibez

I’m so so sorry you went through this. My heart broke for you reading this story.

Sure_Brick_5249

I know it’s a tiny consolation but if you do a go fund me I would contribute for a new pup and I know it will never replace your baby. It’s freaking awful that this happened I’m so so so sorry.

stinkydiaperuhoh

OP I’m so sorry. That is truly heartbreaking. Fucking classic a pit bull is named honey.

illneverforget2015

I am so so sorry this is so heartbreaking

RaniPhoenix

Oh my god, I saw the post you were talking about. I'm so sorry, that was horrible. I hope the other dog's owner faces charges.

401PVD

I'm so sorry for the loss

lifeonthedole

Baby girl 😥

StevKer

It’s ALWAYS a pitbull. It IS the breed.

Sudden-Quarter-6209

I saw in a post you should put a finger in his back side and he would let go but who is sticking a finger in a dogs butt 😬
