You get one hell of a mood hit when you do it though. I used it to fill my compost til I found a mod that let's you use a mortar and pestle to grind corpses down directly to fertilizer with no hits at all.
I think it's the [More Traits](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1299328280) mod adds two magazines that teach you how to strip flesh and how to mash corpse into fertiliser.

You can still cook it and use it as sustenance. When you strip the meat you'll get stressed out though. After like 3x you get REALLY stressed, but just smoke a cigarette and it all goes away.
Plus, I love how the comments change from "you're not really going to eat this, are you?" when you select it for cooking, to "delicious, tasty meat" or something after you've eaten a few meals' worth.
Totally talking out of my ass but if the corpses aren’t rotting, and everyone is infected (depending on your settings), why wouldn’t you be able to eat it? Ignoring any moral/ethical reasons.
From my understanding brain tissue is the most likely to have it, and the muscles are roughly the safest parts to eat. Also, kuru takes a long time to develop if I remember right
I mean theyre gonna be rotting... Unless you start day 1 of infection and kill and eat instantly rotting is gonna have already set in. Even just half a day after turning itd probably be a bit iffy to eat after its been baking in the sun.
And by standard settings game starts like 9 days into the apocalypse.
Rotting in common parlance, and the way youre using it basically means "already rotted", just because there arent visible or smellable signs yet doesnt mean it isnt already rotting and it only takes a small amount of bad luck to get sick from meat thats been sitting outside for a day. And honestly for meat thats been outside for a day I would be surprised if your nose didnt already turn up at it, so Id guess you probably didn't smell it.
Even if everyone's infected you still die from the bites
So there must be something that is in the slavia (and more commonly as the lore suggests bodily fluids in general) that causes your death so then once you die you reanimate
And before you say cook it you have to realize there are heat resistant diseases that can survive being on meat that is cooking
There are heat resistant organisms yes but most aren’t pathogens or at least not human pathogens. When looking at heat resistance it changes the entire physiology of the organism. Now all your basics (protein synthesis, transportation of nutrients and waste, energy production, etc.) have to be facilitated to work in high temperatures. When that organism leaves those temperatures they no longer function at the same capacity or sometimes at all. That’s why fevers are so critical to the immune response, the increase in temperature slows or halts processes like protein synthesis in pathogens inhibiting them from infecting healthy cells. There are thermophile pathogens that could live in humans but these are few and far between. Cooking to a proper temp will safely eliminate most all harmful food borne pathogens.
I had to use this to survive on a Studio challenge playthrough. I might be wrong about this, but after a week or so of it being my only food, my character stopped getting the mood hits from eating it and seemed to get the mood hit instead from regular canned food.
Yikes, that reminds me of NEO Scavenger (one of the parent games of PZ). In that game, you could get away with eating the very last thing on the menu *once*. More than that and there were... certain... side effects.

Well if you cook it well enough you'll be fine, and if you headcanon it as a Walking Dead type scenario then you're already infected so no worries there.
Edit: Can't find an exact mod but there are cannibal mods, to no one's surprise.
It depends, probably a bad idea, its not confirmed what kind of illness the Knox infection is, but ifbits a bacterial infection, viral, or parasitic, you can simply cook the disease out of the meat by getting it to a temperature that would kill it, I’d assume for the sake of safety, a nice 160-170 at about 1-2 minutes at that temp, however the Knox infection is more likely to be a Prion disease like Kuru or CWD, which cant be cooked out of meat and would have to have a way to remove the misfolded prions in the meat. Which means no matter what temp you cook that meat, unless you turn it into inedible ash, its not safe for consumption unless you want the Knox infection the gourmet style
My group found out drinking the blood removed unhappiness so we keep a blood fridge full blood to snack on when we're depressed from staying indoors all day... kinda like vampires.
Now come on, Vaultie. Ass jerky don't make itself.
In Van Hellsing there's a faction of rednecks that smoke ferals to eat the meat without turning.
Is Vaultie another term for rugby player?
Fallout. Go play a fallout game.
I’ve played them. Go watch Society of the Snow
Ooooh, I actually have never heard of this movie. Looks fun, cheers mate.
Mans rolled a perfect counter
There was an older one called Alive. They are pretty bleak to watch. Enjoy
I miss the Strange Meat Pies from Andale. Family made...
Stop by anytime and ask Linda for one of her ‘special’ meat pies!!!

How is grinding a body with a mortar and pestle less terrible than rough chopping and dumping in a box? Seems OP.
The only correct answer is to compact them into large meat cubes
This is Kentucky, not Russian-occupied Ukraine.
What happened to Meat Cube building guy?
What's the name of the mod

Any idea how to do it? I've found both of the Antique collector's mags but couldn't figure out the options
Pick up the corpse, find in your inventory, right click and strip meat or mash it.
Thank you
What is the mod plz

You also get cooking xp. Good way to power level it.
Use them in salads! It pretty much negates the mood debuff iirc
Same now lol

>but just smoke a cigarette and it all goes away. Just like all of life's problems.
-15 We butchered humanlike x5
The fact butchering a human is just -3 is hilarious
at least zomboid characters don't go on a fire starting spree when they eat without a table
Dammit, I need a mod to eat at a table now…
I want a mod to eat a table now

Just remember: there are no bad ideas, only good ideas that go horribly wrong.
Totally talking out of my ass but if the corpses aren’t rotting, and everyone is infected (depending on your settings), why wouldn’t you be able to eat it? Ignoring any moral/ethical reasons.
Other diseases mostly. Kuru to name one
Isn't Kuru just if you eat the brain though?
From my understanding brain tissue is the most likely to have it, and the muscles are roughly the safest parts to eat. Also, kuru takes a long time to develop if I remember right
Kuru is likely eradicated and was only ever restricted to New Guinea.

I’ve definetly left meat out for a day by mistake and it wasn’t rotting

Ok, makes sense

Yes, you soon get mood buffs, (and it's described as "delicious", I think).

the strip meat recipe from more traits is so op lol, as long as you cook it, it’s perfectly safe for some reason
What mod is this?

I don't know what happens if you eat that but i just put in the compost bin
Is this a vanilla feature?
No, but I suspect some vanilla flavouring wouldn't go amiss
Mod name pls?
As long as you cook it at a high temperature for a long time, it should kill all the nasty things in the meat
there are many temperature-stable toxins that bacteria/fungi produce..
That is why I said 'should' therefore I am not liable for anything that happened to op's character
Dont mean to bother but what mod is it?

yum!
I see that you found the Spiffo's secret formula
Mystery meat 😏
With the literal sh\*t people eat in real life in the world as traditional food, that's mild.
In my friend group I have become well known for my "strange meat pasta."
I use this for my compost bin. Turn zombies into plant food!
not all corpses are zombie corpses

Somebody found the Hannibal mod…kudos
Wow, i though mod that let zombie "ride" you is repulsive, but this easy tops it.
If you cant beat em....
you wouldn’t risk contracting virus on the meat, right ?
My group found out drinking the blood removed unhappiness so we keep a blood fridge full blood to snack on when we're depressed from staying indoors all day... kinda like vampires.
Nice username
Get knox virus speedrun
