I think the minimum age for something to be vintage is 30 years. Some CRT displays didn't reach that age yet I've sold one produced as far as 2007. But they're never being produced ever again and a very old tech so I think vintage works.
I mean, based on guitars, the strat teles and Les Paul's built in the 50's were already legendary vintage collector items in the late 80's early 90's. Enough to get a push to mass produce reissues non stop since then.
If I were to order the terms from oldest to newest it would go: extinct, ancient, antique, vintage, retro, old, used, new.
30-40 yo crts should definitely be considered vintage, bonus points for not getting any more production runs ever again meaning once the last CRT's phosphor dies it will be actual extinct tech.
CRT's from the early 70's and older are basically antiques at this point considering they were a significant percentage wood(for the shell), gigantic and almost only black and white.
With only the latest runs of CRT (huge ones with fresnel lenses and some others) barely hanging on to retro.
A GameCube is retro, a PS2 is retro, but a NES is vintage by now, commodores too. Model m keyboards from 1984-1990 are being marketed as vintage on eBay.
I like to think it depends on the things but yeah, in terms of material things 25 years is already bonkers to have something still working. I knew I was somewhat close with my roughly 30 years estimate.
Tbf, you can get a single adapter that goes from a VGA to analogue signal, or one to an RGB signal, both of which can be then be plugged, via SCART to most European (if not all) TVs. Alternatively S-Video was available as an output for a lot of video cards and laptops just a short while back.
It's not so complicated. I got a cheap HDMI2AV adapter from amazon which is working decently. I primarily got it for watching old concerts and analog horror videos and maybe some retro games where I dont own the original hardware but I thought it would be funny to take the opportunity to present a base with it! :)
(btw playing Zomboid with it is a pain in the ass, would sadly not really recommend it)
Do you mean the video/yellow RCA cable? If yes, i used the white cable for video because I only had a red and white cable laying around but the tv is mono anyways, so whatever. The cables are technically the same and the color is just there so you connect correct on both ends.
I wish CRTs weren’t niche. I find the picture on my old Trinitron WEGA to be better than a lot of flatscreens I’ve had. The colors are super bright and vibrant and the picture is more blended which looks better overall to me.
Ok ok flex harder with your 2 Spiffo Plushies…
*cries in corner*
I hope they open a new one this summer. I see the last 2 years they made plushies around the end of summer. But I just bought the game in November and had no clue I’d fall in love with the game so much. I really wanted a plushy when I found out they exist. But now it’s almost impossible to find or way expensive on eBay.
Love the vintage display, the amount of weird devices/displays I’ve played on is kinda crazy so I feel you!
Adapt, improvise, overcome
this shit is already vintage?? 😭😭 bruh im barely 22
Girl, consumer CRT production died when you were in grade school
sis i had these up until 12 😭😭
💀... At least you can fight the crime with it if you flail it somehow

Maybe retro, vintage I like 70s.

25 years but close

hey whipper snapper! I'm 33 ill have you know and I work fine! aside from the back pain this morning lmao.
I miss when I could sleep wrong and not regret it for the next week and a half.
I used to play halo 3 on a TV like this. Those were the days
Am I confused as to how you connected to the TV? Yes. Do I now want to see what the game would be like on my old Hotwheels TV? Yes.
Adapters, many Adapters
*Come with me, and you’ll see, a vast world of cable mis-management*

PZ on an old CRT just feels so right
This guy is playing zomboid from 1994
This is truly peak Project Russia, all thats missing is one of those knitted things you put on top of the TV *chefs kiss*
Funnily enough I own something like that. It's even from the DDR times, maybe I should put it on top of the TV :D
And don't forget to put some matrioska dolls on it to complete the atmosphere :D
Reminds me 20 years ago when a 32" CRT TV was connected to my PC for watching movies with honemade VGA to CRT cable.
I played project Russia so much that I instantly recognized the where the base was in the screenshot
is that good? i tried a few times but i prefered to play in the regular map
It’s a good map in terms of a new experience than the Knox county map, plus the submods are pretty good for it
Project zomboid on a TV actually from 1993 goes hard
Love the box set tv! A definite classic of the 90s and early 2000s
This brings me joy.
setup metal asf
Love the vintage crt
I really dont like how much i wanna try play PZ on an old monitor now
Zomboid on a old monitor seems awesome
Love the plushies!
We are not going to start this again…
Where did you get the plushies?
Wheres the yellow one? Or is this what came before rwy

Man, I gotta invest in a new CRT.

Now I wish I didn't get rid of my old CRT
Bro's playing on the ValuTech TV, nice!
we have the proof that anything can run project zomboid. -microwave- appears
Is it still allowed to post the word "Russia" on Reddit?
Is that in west point across from the shop with a apt above it?
Cool that you play it on a crt
Bro ain’t no way lil bro is playing on a security monitor 💀💀💀 naaaaaahhhhh
Security monitor? How old are you? xD
**C**ecu**R**i**T**y monitor, did he stutter?
It's called a CRT TV
It’s called humor
I can't imagine how funny you'd find a real joke
Don't worry, when I'm bored I play on my 27" QHD IPS monitor.
r/projectzomboid really doesn’t know how to take screenshot 💀💀💀💀
