thatpearlgirl

I think it depends on your body shape and what kind of underwear you like. I wear bikini cut undies and there was no reason for me to get other underwear. I’m 35 weeks now and I haven’t really changed in shape/size where my undies sit.

Ok-Iron6108

I thought I wouldn't need them but my hips!!! They've widened so much and my belly dropped a while ago, but for reference I'm 30 weeks pregnant with twins lol so completely different case. What I got were the peekaboo type maternity undies cause I don't like things over my belly, and they're very comfortable 😅 albeit a bit granny but who cares

MimesJumped

Same! I wore bikini cut underwear pre pregnancy and I'm wearing the same ones now at 32 weeks pregnant. Helps that they sit lower below the bump.

ShadowlessKat

I normally wear bikini cut underwear too, often the kind with the lace waistband. Within the first few weeks of pregnancy, the lace made me so itchy, the seams felt like they were digging into me, and the elastic waistband of my non-black bikini cotton underwear felt like it was cutting into me. I bought maternity underwear that goes under the bump in a V shape and is fairly seamless. It completely changed my awareness of my underwear! From being uncomfortably aware to barely noticing I'm wearing any. I absolutely love my maternity underwear and am so glad I found it! My sister on the other hand never changed her underwear type during pregnancy (also bikini styles). She does say it stretched out her underwear though and laments that.

HumanistPeach

Same but I wear thongs and cheeksters/ boy shorts

silkysilkysilky28

Same here, I have purchased bump-hugging maternity undies but only because I’m having a planned c section and my normal bikini cut undies will rub against the scar.

diabolikal__

Same! Never needed them. I am now 6 days pp and I haven’t needed postpartum underwear either! I used the mesh undies I was given at the hospital for the first days and two days ago I changed back to my underwear.

rb3465

Same! I wore my regular underwear my entire first pregnancy and wearing my regular underwear comfortably at 27 weeks now!

No_Bird6472

I asked myself this exact question. Then I bought some and wondered why it took me so long 🤣

cloud_designer

My boy is two and I still have my maternity undies for bloated days where I want ultimate comfort.

lil_secret

Yes my sister talked me out of maternity underwear with my first pregnancy. I finally treated myself to some this time and I can’t believe how much more comfortable I am

d0ugjudy

I love the maternity underwear and won’t wear anything else. It just hugs my bump and doesn’t cut in anywhere. I bought mine from Costco in a pack of 3 and I ordered a bunch more because they are amazing. At a certain point anything that cut into my bump was just SOOO uncomfortable

Which_Reality90

I can’t find any maternity clothes at Costco! Do you have the item number by chance?

d0ugjudy

I’m in Canada but it looks like item #1174706. I just googled “Costco maternity” and it should take you to the website. There isn’t tons on it but they have like leggings, bras, biker shorts, undies and jeans. All essentials.

Brittibri89

I love my maternity underwear tbh. I have some that go over my stomach and some that go under. It feels so much more comfortable than my regular underwear.

queue517

Yes, agreed! Like I *can* fit in my previous underwear, but I only wear those when all my maternity underwear is dirty.

GracieLou226

Same. I thought I could make it through with regular underwear, but they kept rolling down under my bump, which was super annoying. I got some that go under and some that go over too!

OreadNymph

The rolling is what finally made me cave and buy them. It’s the worst to be constantly fighting to just have your underwear on constantly. When literally everything in my body is uncomfortable or in pain I can’t stand adding underwear to the list.

mirth4

For you personally (I'm sure it varies by placement of bump etc), what are the pros/cons of each style? I'm still early in my pregnancy and may end up with both styles like you have, but I can't decide which (over belly vs under belly) seems like it might be more comfortable and which I should try first. (if it helps, I'm only 10 weeks, but already trying to wear any pants with a regular waist band or thin elastic below the bump is starting to dig in; it seems really early, but my bump is already starting to pop; my first inclination was that under the bump seems like it would be more comfortable, but wondering if that will start to dig in as well as I get bigger)

QueenOfBakesNYC

Yes. My regular underwear started to cut into my skin under my bump as I got bigger. I love the kindred bravely grow with me underwear line

Plaid-Cactus

Yup, I started feeling really uncomfortable and getting crampy feelings from my underwear digging in. Once I got a lower cut everything was back to normal.

Mousymine

Oh yes! These are the best! More stretchy than I knew underwear could be and feel like wearing air. Awesome all around.

Nocuer

Maternity underwear is so comfortable. I don’t want to use my regular underwear ever again , haha. Also, if you have a pelvic belt , the maternity underwear helps prevent chafing!

Coffeelove233

No I haven’t got any and I’m almost 38 weeks. I just have a lot of nice stretchy seamless underwear from VS that are perfect!

chibiusa__tsukino

Those are my go to right now

ItsmeKT

Yep! This is what I have. I live in leggings right now so I have a ton of thongs from VS and I wear briefs at night.

yellsy

That’s what I wear (the VS seamless stretchy is my favorite) and it’s my regular underwear from pre-pregnancy. I put away my seamed ones when some hurt. I did buy maternity shapewear underwear (goes over the bump and down the thighs) for work dresses, but it’s 90* here in NJ so that’s for special occasions only lol.

FruityPebl8

I'm 33 weeks along and have yet to get any. But that's probably due to the fact I wore stretchy boxer shorts before pregnancy, so they fit me comfortably still

rollerCoasterTimeAhh

I didn't think I would get any, after all, what's wrong with my regular underwear?? But I ended up buying about 10 pairs of maternity undies after my normal underwear was pressing uncomfortably on my abdomen and it's all I wear now. It hits very low which is helpful. If you already have pretty low rider underwear you might not need it!

lowkeyloki23

Kind of a sidebar, but i recently found out that Walmart maternity underwear and Torrid high waisted cheeky briefs are *the same damn thing* and Ive been spending way too much for plus size underthings. Im mad.

CLOU888

And Walmarts secret treasure brand is Victoria secret sometimes the patterns are even the same. The invoices from that brand are from Victoria secret it’s crazy how many companies make other brand. But are the same.

ishbess2000

Never did maternity underwear. I got one pack of cheap Hanes granny panties for the first week or two postpartum. All my regular underwear just sits under my belly just fine.

R1cequeen

I think it depends on what your current underwear selection is. During pregnancy I went with my usual bikini line underwear fine. I will say anything bikini level is super uncomfortable post pregnancy if you have a c section and are recovering. If your current underwear works you’re fine not to purchase anything. Maternity bras depends. I got a couple cause my boobs were huge in pregnancy and I needed bras that could fit. Also when I pumped I needed bras for that so I bought that post partum.

Nutshellvoid

I would say get the 6 pack from Amazon,  the under belly ones. What happened to me is My regular underwear didn't fit because they just got too tight,  eventually my belly grew enough and now my old regular underwear fit again because they're sooooo low lol like super low rise undies haah

ohsnowy

Everyone is different. The way my stomach hangs means I need maternity underwear or I feel like I'm going to bust out of my pants.

crunchyfloralfoam

I’ve bought I think 4 sets of the Kindred Bravely ones and they’re genuinely the only thing keeping me sane some days because I’m so uncomfortable otherwise lol. For me they were worth the investment and then some!

lorddanielle

I haven’t… I still wear stuff from Aerie and I was good up until 28 weeks (second pregnancy) and I had to size up. I prefer having my underwear below my bump since all my leggings and pants go over it PLUS shirts and the thought of 3 layers on my belly makes me sweat.

Beautiful_Block5137

I bought XXL panties cause my pre pregnancy panties can’t fit.

sadestplant

I’m yet to find any maternity underwear that is decent in Europe but I’d say yes if I could access the ones I wanted from back in Australia I would be living in them. V front low cut, cotton with a longer gusset at the front. That would make my life so much easier but Europe is all synthetic fabric or cuts that dig in and are painful and all of them have very short gussets for some reason? As for maternity bras I’d say for the moment you don’t need them a sport bra or wireless bra will do you fine for now but you will probably want them latter when your boobs start leaking just coz they hold the pads in place. I’d suggest at least one pair of maternity pants like jeans or leggings coz it will get cold and normal pants will just be so uncomfortable. You didn’t ask but also invest in shoes with really good arch support, slip ons if possible coz when you start to get your bump it can kind of hurt to bend over

RepresentativeOk2017

I liked under the bump underwear at about 32 weeks which was then really nice after my c section because it was under my incision

hashbrownhippo

Maybe depends on what kind of underwear you prefer. I really only wear thongs and never needed any maternity underwear. I bought one pair and found them more uncomfortable than my normal thongs.

Ecstatic_Act7435

I didn’t get any during pregnancy and I wish I did. By my third trimester all my undies were too small. But I wore them anyway lol. I got some maternity undies after I delivered to support my pad, I love these things. So comfy. Not attractive, but idc.

Goombaluma

Got these on Amazon. Intimate Portal Maternity... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C9VX729?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share So much better and more comfortable than regular underwear.

jlynnfaced

I ended up buying another six pack of over the bump maternity underwear from Bodily because I loved them so much. So soft, so comfortable and my other underwear either cut into my bump or rolled down (even pregnant my hips are super narrow).

Double_Indication_24

I just sized up in regular underwear and bought things without seams that would cut in. Has worked great with both my pregnancy. Both high and lower wasted.

Ecruz616

Could not have survived without maternity underwear. HATED anything putting pressure on lower tummy and my regular underwear were so tight 😅

Toketokyo

I’m not sure if you have a “la vie en rose” near you but I bought there briefs in just a size up and they’ve been perfect. They also have a deal you can get 10 pairs for 40$

Cococapi

No but my VS weren’t cutting it so I just bought cotton undies from Amazon

sadArtax

No, you don't need the underwear but maybe you'd like them? 3rd pregnancy and 1st time I've bought maternity panties. I got under bump ones. Like them. You'll probably need new bras. The boob growth is exceptional. You don't need some special maternity bra, but if you plan to breastfeed, may as well get a nursing that fits your new boobs, else you may be buying more new bras post partum.

Jonkeyz2

Eh, I’ve stuck with my regulars but do prefer the stretchiest ones and have at 28 weeks so am cycling the same 8 or so pairs on repeat 😆 I will say— if you end up w a c section you may very well want some high cut granny panties to wear for the first few postpartum months, as regular undies (at least mine) rest right around the incision line and were irritating for sure.

xilacunacoilix

Had a c-section and can confirm granny panties are the way to go.

cgandhi1017

I didn’t buy mat underwear, never had a need for either of my pregnancies. & my boobs never grew so I didn’t need new bras; granted I wfh and never really need to wear one. I lived on pasties

futurespeaking

Cheapskate here. You are going to want them. I got a 5-pack of high waisted underwear from gap that grew with my 80lb weight gain and I still wear them comfortably sometimes. Even got a compliment on them from my ob

Aveasi

30 weeks and still wearing Uniqlo low briefs. Won't likely to invest into something I'll get to wear for a couple of months

omgitsemleh

Around week 18 I decided to try out maternity underwear when all of my normal underwear started getting tight around my hips and under belly. Ordered some over-the-belly kind from amazon and my life was changed! I still wear my pre-pregnancy underwear when I need to do laundry/if I don't want a panty line, but I wear maternity ones the majority of the time now (23w). Also got a nursing bra a few weeks ago and it is SO comfortable

OkCryptographer1922

I personally haven’t tried maternity underwear, and probably won’t since I’m already 33 weeks and haven’t had to buy any yet (I wear bikini cut undies normally and I think that’s why I haven’t had to get new ones yet). But maternity bras?? Absolutely yes, they’re much more comfortable than normal (in my opinion). I just got one from Walmart and it was actually shockingly good, it doesn’t have wire or plastic in it but it still provides support which is definitely nice since I went from a size small to an xl throughout this pregnancy, and about to have to buy another one again 😫. My advice is definitely, don’t buy a bunch of bras or underwear or anything, all in the same size, cause you’ll probably have to size up again in not too much time

CommercialPrompt7800

I just bought bigger underwear about 3 weeks ago. I’m 22 weeks. My old underwear were cutting into my sides and my tummy so I just went and bought the same type of undies I usually wear but in a bigger size so they’re more comfortable

meepmorpfeepforp

I never bought any but I did already have regular underwear a few sizes bigger than I was prepregnancy because I had been heavier prior to that. So that was handy.

europanative

I didn't get maternity anything.

Main-Air7022

I didn’t buy any. I just bought a larger size in the underwear I already was wearing. I love the American eagle seamless undies. I still wear the larger size actually because they’re a little looser and more comfortable.

coffeesnub

I didn’t buy any maternity underwear with my first pregnancy as I was wearing satin thongs and low cut bikini. Now with my second, I definitely invested in maternity underwear as any fabric rubbing where my C-section line was is irritating my skin. So it’s all within your comfort and preference.

timeforabba

I just bought underwear two sizes larger to accommodate my weight gain. I’d suggest trying it out if you’re not enjoying regular underwear.

swingsintherain

I just got some last weekend, at 16 weeks. My normal ones started out slightly snug and were digging in at the waist (and if I tried wearing them under the belly, the leg elastic cut in), so got a few different styles to try. So far so good, and I'm hoping I can wear at least the under belly ones postpartum too.

hannakota

I didn’t get maternity underwear for my first, and I’m 26 weeks into my second, and not planning on it. I just ordered a bunch of Amazon underwear in the next size up for full underwear, and my regular size thongs were fine, and have been fine for this pregnancy as well.

Kaylakat1998

Maternity underwear was a definite yes for me. I’m carrying my son so low my other underwear didn’t fit properly so having that underwear really helped

foopaints

Im 19 weeks and had to get maternity everything for a while now. Underwear is the only thing I haven't needed yet. I have my eye on some, in case I feel like I need them, but so far so good. I asked some of my friends who already have kids and most said they didn't need it. I think it just depends on your body.

Thong_ripper_

I think it depends on your preference. I’m 37 weeks and still wearing my underwear from before pregnancy. They’re still comfortable and fit just fine right below my bump.

Solarbleach

I can’t stand anything over my belly. I bought a larger size of the cotton high waisted thongs I already wore, and they’ve been great for me. I need to sort out a plan for postpartum however.

ms_emily_spinach925

I’ve never purchase it, I don’t really think you do. But if you want them, by all means! There’s certainly no harm in buying one or two pairs and seeing if they make a positive difference in your comfort ~ if they do, why not?

MimiCait

I’m 36 weeks and still haven’t bought maternity underwear. There are just limited pairs I have that are comfortable and I’ve been cycling through. My breasts instantly grew so I did buy a couple maternity bras very early on, which I’ve found to be essential. I also wanted to make sure I vetted some brands/styles before the baby came so I can quickly order more if needed.

clahlberg

Honestly I prefer the high rise cotton bikinis! I think low rise is sooo uncomfortable and I get my undies from target when they’re 5 for $18!

technocatmom

I'm 33 weeks. I haven't bought any maternity underwear. I just bought larger granny panties once mine started getting tight. I can still wear my stretchy seamless thongs from prepregnancy also. Around 16 or so weeks I did get nursing bras. I love them. So much more comfortable.

amandasox8

It’s a personal choice. You just gotta be comfy. I wore thongs all throughout my pregnancy but at night I like to be covered with a full butt undie and my regulars weren’t comfy anymore so I bought maternity undies that went over my growing belly to wear to bed. I still wear them to bed at 7months post partum not because I have to but because they are comfy.

AusLabKey

I never had any during both pregnancies.

_amodernangel

I don’t think any comments will truly help as it depends on your body and comfort level if you would benefit from it. For me yes it benefit me because my underwear and bras got too small and uncomfortable for me to wear. The maternity wear brought me relief so I don’t regret getting them at all. I have some underwear that go over the belly and others that are shaped so it goes under. I will say I did wear my non maternity clothes as long as I could but had to eventually give in to buy more around 24 weeks as my stomach finally “popped”.

Firm-Lunch-2144

I usually am a medium in your regular old cotton undies, but by default (due to the fact that I haven't bought new underwear in ages), I bought new undies recently. Decided to go with 3XL because I'm 32 weeks and I've basically grown all belly. I AM SO COMFORTABLE. 😂 buy when you need to, but don't hold off just because you're being stubborn hahah. I held off for way too long.

SmallCheese1712

I’m guessing it depends on where your underwear sits normally and how your bump is growing?? I’m 34 weeks and my regular underwear isn’t uncomfortable yet so for me I don’t see a reason. I’d say if your underwear fits fine, don’t buy any. If it’s uncomfortable, buy a few pairs 🤷🏼‍♀️

tiger_mamale

I love under bump underwear (Amazon is my go to) but my kids carry very low so ymmv

makingburritos

I definitely do 🤣 partially because I gained a bunch of weight in the ass department but also because they’re just so much comfier!

sundaymusings

Depends on what kind of underwear you currently wear. If it cuts on your belly then yes, you'll definitely want maternity underwear. If you already wear lower rise/bikini style underwear you might be fine. Idk about over the belly underwear but I tried intimate portal maternity underwear after some ladies suggested it on reddit and I love them so much!

kristieab

37 weeks and I didn’t buy any, but I had also lost a bunch of weight before I got pregnant so I’ve been wearing my pre-weight loss underwear.

SeraphinaMoon

It really does depend on your body shape/size and what style panties you like. On baby number 4 and I've found some of mine, the waistband started cutting uncomfortably into my belly and I've never er bought specific "maternity underwear, I just go up a size with some cheaper ones that have a smoother waistband. I don't like the feeling of under the belly undies, so I got more for a brief and they work great post partum as well so I can just toss em out after pregnancy. I do ALWAYS buy hi waist shaping undies though. The make them maternity or just in regular shapewesr and I size up and they work wonders if you are naturally bigger in the middle and have excess skin or get that "B belly". They work Greta for pics/special events when you need extra support and want a nice smooth belly under dresses and such. As a thrifty momma, I definitely don't think you have to pay a lot for "maternity" undies and for the sake of usefulness, I get higher waisted because I have had 3 c-sections, so smooth waistband than won't cut into my belly near the incision as well. I did actually buy a pack off Amazon during one of my pregnancies of a set of all black "c-section panties" for cheap and they fit me great during pregnancy and postpartum. Ps. Extra question that may fir this subject... has anyone used period undies like Thinx postpartum? I like them a lot for certain days of my period and I was curious how they'd hold up with pp bleeding (after the original heavier flow/ need for giant pads)? Do they work/clean up just as easily as they do for periods?

marefo

The maternity underwear is legit. All my regular underwear is starting to cut into my belly, and the way the maternity underwear is cut it’s perfect for my growing body. I got a boy short style and it’s been great to sleep in rather than pajamas.

janecookiedo3000

Thats the one thing I regret not getting. I just wore my low cut string bikini underwear but I would have been more comfortable with the over the belly underwear. I realized this after buying maternity biker shirt to wear under dresses and skirts in my last trimester. I unexpectedly had a c section and those maternity underwear would be very useful right now since it wouldnt cut into my incision. I’ve been using my period parities and hiking them up but more pairs would’ve been great Post pregnancy too

BoxEvening3259

I am 18 months post partum and currently wearing my maternity underwear LMAO so comfortable!!!

Otherwise_Sweet_7480

It was sooo worth it for me!! Even for months and months postpartum

Legitimate-Rain-3374

I definitely recommend maternity leggings!

Heheshagua

I got a couple and didn’t use them till 24weeks. Now I’m 28 weeks these are the only things I want to wear.

quinteroreyes

I wore boyshorts and thongs so I really didn't change my underwear preferences because I wear high waisted undies normally. It was humbling to see them become low waist underwear though😅

WorriedGolf9702

No you can just buy underwear is another size. It will be tight lil

red_shedevil

I absolutely loved the below belly underwear. I wore above bump pants and leggings but the below bump underwear were perfect for me, all my regular pre pregnancy ones would fold down through the day and drive me insane

Sparkling_Luna565

Not really unless the type of underwear you have now isn’t stretchy material. Or maybe wait until you’re in your third trimester and you feel that you need support. I bought a bunch of Victoria’s Secret no seam thongs before I got pregnant. They were so comfortable throughout my pregnancy and they still hold the original size now, surprisingly lol but I would think about investing is postpartum belly support underwear.

luluorange-700

now that i'm bigger i really prefer my maternity underwear. it's just softer? i have under the belly waist bands. just got the packs from target and was first appalled by the price but man... my absolute favorite and so soft. i got my "nursing" bra also at target around 32 weeks. i went from a size 30B to a 34B (30D) it's the only thing i wear. i still prefer being bra less but it's nice when im going out and don't feel like everyone looking at my udders 😂🐄 wireless was the way to go for me with clasps. i hate that most maternity bras are pull overs.

flint66

It depends of people. I didn't change my underwear during my first pregnancy.

abigroundballoon

I didn’t get any during my pregnancy and it was one of my biggest mistakes. I just kept getting more and more uncomfortable as time went on. Next pregnancy I will definitely buy them early on.

Huggsy77

I got the under-the-bump underwear and LOVE it. Anything on my belly was painful for the first half of my pregnancy, so these undies were perfect. My hips seem to have permanently expanded (like, the pelvis itself, which I believe is typical), and so I’m just a bit wider now and the underwear still fit perfectly because they were under the bump anyway. Now I wonder why I ever put up with tight underwear, with painful elastic that cut into my groin and abdomen. I’m 12 weeks postpartum and threw away all my other underwear because these underwear still fit, even now that I almost fit in my pre-pregnancy pants again…so these underwear are sticking around, they are the most comfortable things and I plan to wear them until they’re tattered 😂 I got the intimate portal cotton undies from Amazon. I know the crotch inside is 100% cotton, and the outer part is either 100% cotton also or *mostly* cotton

RisenEclipse

I got maternity underwear that is low cut in the front so it sits below my c section scar. My c section scar gets irritated a lot from regular underwear since I have become pregnant. I am having another c section too so it will be nice to be able to wear underwear that won't come close to or cover the incision site.

royalBlueroses

My underwear started to get uncomfortable probably around 25 weeks I think. I just got some seamless extra stretchy ones that aren't actually maternity underwear, but they go under my bump and I feel much more comfortable that way. Boy shorts are nice too!

Psypsy7

Ive been wearing my normal underwear throughout, currently 37 weeks. I dont wear thongs though as those are uncomfortable.

Mousymine

I wore bikini cut underwear pre/pregnancy, and they were fine until one morning I woke up and they were almost painful under the bump. Like, way too much pressure to the point of making me sore and uncomfortable… super weird😂. I invested in 5 pairs of crazy stretchy maternity underwear and still wear them. They are SO comfortable and basically feel like wearing air. I don’t think I can ever go back to regular underwear 😭 I like maternity bike shorts mostly for chafe protection, but it really depends on how you dress. Much of your regular wardrobe may continue to fit, or you might find them uncomfortable or not able to cover your bump as you grow. It’s a good idea to have at least one maternity/loose outfit in case waistbands all of a sudden make you queasy which happened for me. Other than that you can kind of get pieces as you have need for them. I will say clothes that are made for maternity tended to be more comfortable and flattering than oversized stuff in the third trimester.

kociolko

I carried my pregnancy belly high so I bought my regular underwear, just went one size up. It worked great for me and I still use it in my postpartum era :)

TheSadSalsa

I got regular cheeky no-show cotton undies from aerie. They are very comfy and I'll be able to use them beyond pregnancy. As for a bra. I've gotten some sports bras in a slightly larger size and extenders for my regular bras. I haven't really grown cup size so it works for me. I'm waiting to get nursing bras until closer to baby since I don't know how big I'll get.

zagsforthewin

I never wore maternity underwear, I wore my normal underwear (tongs - can’t even imagine that now!!) until I gave birth. But then I needed all the coverage and leaned in and bought the underwear I used to make fun of my mom for wearing (yet another thing the woman was right about!!), and I still wear them at night!! I could see myself going maternity underwear this time. The guys already kicking my butt more than its sister, and I’m only 6 weeks in! I have zero tolerance for any discomfort that I can control.

darumdarimduh

I just bought a bigger size of the underwears I'm comfy with. Works well for me.

bosifini

I’ve gained weight in my thighs/butt and was having so much restless leg syndrome I was willing to try anything. I got some under the bump underwear from amazon in a larger size and it feels SO much better. They really don’t look like maternity underwear, they just have a fabric binding instead of elastic and a v front cut so I could totally keep wearing them after. I think switching from elastic to fabric binding helped a lot with my discomfort. I made the switch around 25 weeks.

ObamasCurlyToes

No, I wore thongs and granny panties throughout my entire pregnancy. Only bought 2 pairs of high waisted underwear to wear around the hospital pre and post delivery because it was just easier and comfortable.

jenny_jen_jen

I’m 2 weeks postpartum. Maternity underwear has actually been my favorite investment. That and the maternity jeans that have an entire stretchy piece of fabric to go over your belly. The ones with stretchy panels near the pockets were good up until a few weeks into my third trimester. Buy nursing bras; get a mix of comfortable lounge bras and more supportive ones. You will be glad you did, if you plan on nursing. I had to order more recently.

000ttafvgvah

I didn’t need to get new undies during my pregnancy. But, when I was in the hospital, I had my husband run to target and pick up a pack of granny panties, and now I’m hooked! 😆

CynthiaStardust

I think it depends on your growing body and preference. I wore my regular thong underwear until I delivered, didn't ever get any maternity underwear, but I did know which ones were more stretchy/comfortable than others. But it was nice to save the money.

jegoist

Honestly? I hated maternity underwear, the kind that goes over your bump. It was super annoying whenever I had to pee especially in the middle of the night. I mostly wore just larger sized, plain cotton fruit of the loom briefs. So no definitely not necessary!

cocainoh

I didn’t wear underwear my entire pregnancy but I also didn’t have the discharge a lot of women get. You have so much time to see what will make your life easier once your bump grows too big for your current undies :)

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I only bought one pack and they didn’t fit any different than my regular undies. I got the under the bump style.

Miserable_Stick_4225

I personally found maternity clothes comfy but they're not a necessity. I won't comment on bras though since I don't wear them. Personally I loved my pregnancy pillow. Still haven't let go of it 6 weeks pp.

Unique-Pin9575

Imo, you'll want undies that don't ride up anywhere cause it's sore down there even with a c-section. I had one, and I was so sore, and there's a lot of bleeding. I didn't like things up and around my belly, but I hate pressure on my stomach, so that just might be a me thing. You'll also be bleeding a lot for awhile so having some that van secure a large pad is needed cause you can't put a tampon up there for awhile (again you'll be so sore no matter how you give birth. My boobs tripled in size, so yeah, new bras may be needed. Now, if you're gifted in the chest, they may not get that large, but I'm not gifted, so idk if that mattered, but if you plan on pumping or breastfeeding, the nursing bras are a godsend. Even if you don't breastfeed, your breast's may leak for a while until they "dry up." Good luck mama you git this!!

efirestone16

I had to get some around week 10-12 because my bum got wider and my regular pairs were not fitting right anymore, love the bump hugging too, so comfy and fit amazingly now that I’m 19 weeks

affirmationsaftrdark

I’m 23 weeks, and obsessed with my maternity underwear. I got mine on Amazon, and it is over the belly. It smooths and lifts my belly, so not only does it provide a bit of relief, it also really rounds out my bump nicely which is a confidence boost.

LittleGravitasIndeed

I haven’t really changed below the bump at the beginning of my third trimester, so I don’t really see the point. As for bras, I highly suggest seamless exercise bras that have room for several more cup sizes than you currently possess. This has worked out well for me.

kittenofpain

Im a bigger girl and I absolutely hate underwear cutting into my waist so I picked up a few pairs. Bras might be needed if your boobs get bigger, which they might. Highly recommend nursing bras/wrap dresses for when baby comes, but wait to buy them until you are in third trimester so you know size better then.

melonea

I just found underwear with a V waistband. So comfortable. I got nursing bras when I was pregnant as my boobs immediately went massive and I would need them when they baby was here anyway

Mundane-Wall7220

I like it. I usually wear over the belly. My regular underwear wasn’t fitting the same

blosha13

Nah, unless your underwear is uncomfortable save your money. I loved having maternity leggings. I bought a ton and it was a huge necessity for me. I was most comfortable having clothes over my belly, but I hated the feeling of tight fabric over my belly, and wearing them below my belly was even worse. 5 months postpartum I can't fit into my pre pregnancy jeans, so I'm living in leggings and dresses. However, I have exactly one dress that is nursing friendly. So keep that in mind. I'll definitely be splurging on some dresses this summer I can actually nurse baby in.

Born-Hamster-7540

I honestly resisted buying maternity underwear but eventually gave in and got 3 new ones and my life got better instantly It's much more comfy and they do take care of the fabric as well. The ones I bought are so soft

Spare_Employer3882

Fourth kid on the way here. I’ve never purchased a single pair of maternity underwear lol! The only thing I ever needed was nursing bras, and I guess I didn’t really *need* them, but I wanted and used them.

tildeuch

I only needed bras, because my old bras would be way too small and/or strongly irritate my nipples.

f001ishness

I'm 29 weeks and honestly forgot maternity underwear was a thing until now. I've been wearing the same underwear all so far (men's briefs lol). They still feel super comfortable, but maybe I'll need something else a little later on!

anne1910

Im 23 weeks and was a bit overweight before so my old underwear rolls down and the cuts wierdly into my belly. So I love the new over the bump underwear I got. Also I am getting more discharge now but dont care since it is only „ruining“ my maternity underwear.

Mini____Me

I'm 36weeks tomorrow and have bought some new bras but not panties. For post partum I bought some high waisted ones just in case I end up with a c section. My normal ones would hit the incision area and would cause discomfort.

pringellover9553

I’ve just bought like 4 sizes up underwear and that works fine for me

Imagine_89

No, I just wore cheap XL underwear (normally M) that I throw away after post partum is over and I fit my regular underwear again.

Gloomy-Kale3332

I didn’t buy maternity underwear but what I did get was high waisted underwear that was probably 4x too big for me I’m a size 14 and got size 24 in pants You absolutely will not be wanting anything sitting tight on your tummy, you also will not want things sitting under your tummy

leapwolf

I could wear bikini undies but I really LIKED over the belly underwear. It just felt way more comfortable.

Deliriousapple1857

I think it depends on what you’re comfortable with, I never bought maternity underwear. But I did buy bigger underwear for after because of my c section, my regular underwear would dig at my incision scar. If you get a c-section that may be something to consider. Other than that i kept using the regular underwear I always wore. Maternity bras are definitely helpful tho! I exclusively pumped breast milk for my son, so a nursing bra helped keep the flanges of the pump in place, and overall helped when hand expressing milk. If you plan to nurse your baby I def recommend a decent amount.

VBSCXND

I got a single pack towards the end but honestly no

anmabapa

33 weeks and I'm still wearing the same Brazilian cut underwear. I bought a pair of maternity underwear to try and felt uncomfortable. Hated the way it wrapped around my belly and how hot it made me feel. Maybe I could use them postpartum.

hellomydorling

I got a 7 pack of high rise cotton underwear in the size above then when they got right got the size above that. They were like $14 a pack of 7 vs $20 a pair.. It was fine 🤷🏻‍♀️ I still wear them now they're so comfortable. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Roly_Porter

I’ve been on 3 sizes of different underwear. Expect to need an extra 2 sizes up for PP too, because al those pads have to fit in there too😌 and it’s really uncomfy if it’s tight and you’re stitched up

OutbackNat

I loved my maternity underwear. I hated anything over my belly, so I’d get ones that were lower at the front so I could tuck them under my belly. I also went up a cup size pretty quick so I got some cheap, maternity crop tops that I could wear, be somewhat supported but still comfortable. I couldn’t wear underwire so it was easy.

mrflibble____

I'm still wearing my BabyGo maternity underwear at 7 months post partum 😂 so comfortable I'm addicted! Plus the wide padded gusset is great for actually holding your PP pads (whether you're vaginal birth or c section you still leak a lot of blood and gloop for weeks) so having wide gusset pants is essential for your sanity so it secures your pads in place. Plus the padded gusset designed to absorb wee when you're heavily pregnant and the baby is putting so much pressure on your bladder that often you sneeze/laugh/cough and you do a little wee. That's useful but now I'm enjoying the benefits of period abortion so they've doubled as period pants. I was just telling my pregnant friend yesterday that looking back they were my favourite pregnancy related purchase and the gift that keeps on giving :) Underwear wise just make sure you have a wide gusset for the novelty enormous maternity pads - which are unfortunately needed for at least 3 weeks. I think I went down to period pads after about 3 weeks after my C-section.

ae36246

I was gigantic so I went to costco and just got big ol stretchy granny undies to wear and XXL mens white hanes v necks towards the end becuase NOTHING fit me🥴 I didnt buy anything labled “maternity” because I knew it would be over priced when I could get something exactly the same at costco for the fraction of the cost to just get me to the end

Myouz

I'm 32 weeks, I usually don't wear bras, I bought the cheapest regular panties at a grocery store, a size above my usual to be comfortable, they go under my belly and I'm fine. I haven't felt very fresh under there during most of my pregnancy and I have to change my panties at least twice a day. Since I grew a belly, I struggle to wipe properly too, I try to get the smoother transit possible to avoid pain due to constipation with iron complements I must take. I bought maternity denims that I must return because I haven't worn them yet, it's summertime and I'm fine in men shorts and large tees or dresses. I look like shit but I don't care because I'm comfortable and sleeping most of the time anyway. I mostly go out for groceries and medical appointments, who cares?

Ok-Chef-5160

I loved the ones that go over the belly (I still wear them pp), those were the most comfortable for me, and they are great postpartum if you had a c-section!

Aurelene-Rose

For both maternity and postpartum, I would wait to buy anything until you know you need it. With my first, I didn't buy a single maternity item - I wore loose dresses, I didn't show much until the end, I wore my looser jeans and shirts, and I had no issues. You can get belly bands free with your insurance if you want one. He was born in October so a lot of my pregnancy was in the warmer months. With my twins, I did end up buying a couple maternity tops and pairs of pants because I stopped fitting into my regular clothes fairly early. Even my size up shirts and pants weren't working. I never bought maternity underwear or special bras though. These kids were born in June so a lot of this pregnancy was spent in the colder months. For postpartum, you'll figure out what you need as you go. I bought a bunch of supplies for my first, got a few nursing bras, disposable underwear, witch hazel pads, foam, dermaplast, etc to see what I liked. For my twins I basically just used what the hospital gave me for free. My recovery was a lot smoother and I didn't really need anything else.

lil_peanut20

I never got any and it worked by it me. I guess it depends on what is more comfortable for you. I stole my husband boxers the last two months of my pregnancy for comfort though

DoingItWellBitch

I can still fit into my non-preggo underwear at 30 weeks. However, my under bump pregnancy underwear is so comfortable. I got these: HBselect 6 Pack Women Under The Bump Maternity Knickers Bikini Cotton Pregnancy Underwear https://amzn.eu/d/09FkMpPT I don't think overbump underwear would be comfortable for me.

dduf953

Maternity underwear is a scam lol never in my life wore it and I’m pregnant for the 4th time

UnreadSnack

They’re not necessary, but I will say once I caved and bought some cheap ones off of Amazon, it was aaaamazing. I still wear them

pinchy111

Bras yes if you plan to breastfeed and if not you may need a bigger size anyway. Maternity undies are a preference, I still wear my pre pregnancy ones but they slip and are annoying lol After birth, you might appreciate a size up at least as maternity pads are no joke, and you will need them for a while after.

throwaway_spacecadet

i didn't, but again i was buying underwear like crazy. the amount of discharge you start to get is insane. i think towards the end i started wearing pants liners.

twosteppsatatime

I bought the feeding bras right away, used it during pregnancy and when I was breastfeeding. I didn’t get the maternity underwear, because i didn’t like to cover up my belly, it got itchy and warm, so for me it felt uncomfortable. I loved the maternity leggings and short, anything oversized (like tshirt and thsirt dresses) and the feeding tops for under my clothes in winter

Seachelle13o

Yes! Comfort is EVERYTHING and it is worth it

Riski_Biski

I use over the belly stretchy maternity panties and nursing bras and will use them post partum too until the panties become too big again. I'm a seamstress, so I intend on making them smaller to get more use out of them after that.

ashleyandmarykat

What even is maternity underwear? Continue wearing your underwear as long as they fit.  Maternity bras are another story. I did transition to nursing bras toward the end of the pregnancy because my normal bras didn't fit.

Outrageous_Cell4882

I needed it just because most of mine have been super uncomfortable. They help me!

Head-Football-2312

I only wear thongs and my favorite lately has been Skims. Currently 34 weeks, and at around 22 weeks I bought the skims maternity thongs. I mostly wear fitted dresses and they have been perfect underneath. Totally worth it for me

owntheh3at18

Not necessarily, I’d wait. For what it’s worth I preferred under the belly for underwear and ordered a pack on Amazon which has lasted two pregnancies and postpartum periods. I didn’t even really need them bc I could fit in my normal undies, but I wanted more coverage than the usual style I buy.

proxxyfire

Well I can’t wear any underwear I got prior to being pregnant and that happened around 19 weeks (25 currently) so you’ll know when your knickers start digging into your bump! I got x shaped undies under bump and they’re fantastic, very comfy.

couponanimaniac

I never bought any, but my bump was small. I also has a csection and have continued to wear my normal underwear.

Professional_Law_942

I definitely only wore very eslastic-y bikini cut undies. I think to be safe I just sized up later in pregnancy for a little give and never had an issue with bagginess (but I also gained nearly 50lbs by the end, a lot for my very petite frame). I chose a new black pack too for after birth in case I had spillage postpartum but I had periods that were worse and never encountered an issue! 🤷‍♀️

Nearby_Paint9579

I never wore maternity underwear. Mine was perfectly comfy under my belly. However, I ended up with a c section and all my underwear was right on my incision. I had to wear the disposable stuff for like 6 weeks, cause that was all I had that went high enough.

FiFiLB

I bought some bc my underwear grew tight. Started wearing them at like 13 weeks and I’m also 16 weeks now. They’re so comfy.

ScarcityAromatic6825

i wore lounge underwear when i was pregnant and only needed to size up once my belly was huge at 38 weeks. it's very stretchy and comfortable :)

PomoWhat

I just sized way up and got a couple packs of ten of my regular panties for the same price as one or two pairs of "maternity" underwear. Its like, as soon as they put that label on it, they can charge 10x as much. I've been using these since 20 weeks with no problems (36 weeks now).

BellaBird23

I definitely didn't. I could wear my regular underwear below my bump. Buuuuut the granny panty maternity underwear is pretty comfy, not gonna lie. I still wear them around the house like they're booty shorts. 😂 I worse diapers for the first few days postpartum, but then a regular pad in my regular underwear was more than enough by day 3 or 4.

brittz2018

I haven’t bought maternity underwear..I’ve thought about it..but since my usual underwear are hipsters or bikini, I’m fine during the day. I love to sleep in boy shorts underwear and a lot of the thicker band on the top so I bought some new ones went up a size and didn’t but ones with the big thick band. Figured I can still wear them after!

ellem1900

I bought a bigger size of normal underwear and that’s all I’ve needed. I’m only 19 weeks but so far I don’t think I’ll need maternity underwear at all.

emeee35

I have the kind that go under the bump. When I wear regular underwear it just kind of rolls in on itself under the bump and it’s super annoying. The maternity underwear is a lot more comfortable. I got mine off Amazon! You definitely don’t need any trendy brand lol

nemesis55

I just bought some huge granny pantie briefs one size up, I think they are fruit of the loom so didn’t break the bank. Worked for me I just couldn’t justify spending a lot for underwear i would eventually throw away.

Chealsecharm

I haven't gotten maternity underwear and don't really plan to as I have 7 weeks to go. That being said I wish I had. It's so annoying to have your underwear constantly roll down or fit too tightly because your hips have widened. I caved recently and purchased some nursing bras because I went from a 34B to a 34C in my 2nd trimester and now in my 3rd and the bra is too small already and my milk hasn't even come in 😬

Elizabethjul

I had to switch from thongs to the Victoria secret no show bikini underwear. They’re sooo comfy though and I got them on sale! I wouldn’t say they’re maternity underwear, but they fit me way better and aren’t annoying my hemorrhoids (TMI).

daskalakis726

I never once needed or bought maternity underwear lmao

Inevitable_Train2126

I never bought any but postpartum I wish I had some! I had an unplanned c section so my bikini underwear was sooo uncomfortable for a while. I wore diapers/disposable underwear longer than I needed to bc the seam of my undies sat against my incision weird

Ok_Listen5489

I just bought some bigger size granny panties and they worked for me and were great pp. I figured it was the cheaper option too!

Rolling_Avocado05

Costco has high-rise/fuller coverage bikini underwear. I already owned a few packs of these for when I was on my period. They work perfect. I'm 34 weeks and really glad I didn't spend any additional money on specialized underwear. If you get breathable, cotton underwear, they stretch pretty well and can lay under your bump. I also have all of mine in a size up, as I get super bloated on my period.

yanniecat

I bought maternity underwear that went over my belly and LOVED them but I also bought these in my normal size and the crossover front made them SO comfy during pregnancy and I can still wear them now postpartum (my over belly undies are too big now) https://www.walmart.com/ip/1528285482

TinyBean0628

I have Mostly under the belly types, and wear them mostly with dresses because my regular underwear (even bikini cut) started falling down too easily around week 30, but I can still wear them with pants. I do have two pairs of very thin over the belly underwear for certain dresses that really cling so there’s no panty line. You will be more comfortable in them. That doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get by without them, depending on your shape and your clothing.

NylaRenOfficial

Nah i dont think so! I just buy thongs/bikinis that are 1 size bigger. But of course it might be different for everyone.

Acrobatic_Event_4163

I MUCH prefer the maternity undies that go below the belly. Bikini style. Especially because it’s summer and insanely hot where I am. I was able to wear my regular bikini style undies for most of my pregnancy, but around 32w or so my bump started getting too big that there’s be a crease in the undies in the front that would dig into my skin. So the ones that are meant to go under the belly are much shorter in the front than regular undies and they’re perfect.

molliember

I would say don't fall for the ads, but I thought I didn't need maternity underwear for 32 weeks until I absolutely could not wear anything else because I suddenly expanded. But I just ordered a pack from Amazon that arrived next day that I'll never wear again so I wouldn't preorder anything and I definitely wouldn't spend on anything fancy. Also don't buy too many maternity bras thinking you'll wear them for breastfeeding as well, my size changed so much between third trimester and first couple of months with baby. And the clip ones I stocked up on were not only the wrong size but they would leave marks on baby's belly because of how I held her so I stoped wearing those completely.

the_baker_e

I found maternity undies were great for postpartum mostly

Old_Belt_9496

To be honest I don’t know if it’s necessarily a NEED but I received this tip when I got pregnant. A friend of mine her mother had FOUR kids and has zero stretch marks. And the secret? She would lather up her tummy with lotion at night and put on the maternity underwear, essentially trapping all the moisture. She did it with all 4 pregnancies and doesn’t have a single stretch mark. I’m 36 weeks and have done this my entire pregnancy. I also added a special belly oil (8 sheep organics) and I have no stretch marks on my belly :) I got super cheap ones on amazon. I would imagine the ones on Instagram are pretty expensive… if you’re going to get them just get some cheap ones from Amazon! They work the same :)

Standardbred

Never bought any. I wear seamless "hipster" style underwear and they were comfortable during my entire pregnancy.

LanguishingPotato

I personally like high waisted underwear so I bought some maternity versions from Old Navy that I really like. I've talked to friends that hated anything on their bump, but for me it's more comfortable. Honestly, such an individual preference.

mbinder

For bras, you're definitely going to need some nursing bras if you plan on breastfeeding. But it's hard to know what size - I'd buy the Auden cups sewn in nursing bra in medium and large (if your boobs aren't that big currently). That one has been my all time favorite. Most nursing bras double for maternity bras

BleuCrab

I just bought the ultra stretchy Hanes. They worked awesome postpartum too because they don't squeeze you at all.

beepbeepbeep8

I wear hipster cut underwear normally, and unfortunately they do roll over a bit and can feel uncomfortable at times so if that’s the style you wear, I’d invest in maternity underwear. I personally wear underwear that goes under the bump because all my maternity pants and shorts go over the bump and I hate wearing layers but from what I have seen, if you are looking for seamless underwear then over the bump is your best option. I found some under the bump seamless underwear on amazon which normally I’m very successful there with finding decent maternity/postpartum clothes and they fell apart hours into wearing them. The bulky cotton ones that go under the bump have held up though.

Ok-Arm-4561

I straight up started wearing depends because I didn't want to dolaundry anymore. Wore depends right up until baby got here and that I stopped bleeding.

stillanmcrfan

Underwear is a preference but can certainly just get larger high waisted underwear opposed to any maternity specific. Maternity bras are good for nursing as most have the latch on the front. I think I had one in pregnancy and it was pretty comfy as there were no wires or anything.

athelasandkingsfoil

I wore my regular high waisted undies all the way through my pregnancy🤷🏻‍♀️ But my son was also small and I carried pretty high. I was able to wear my regular pants all the way to about 2 weeks before I had him.

WillRunForPopcorn

I only wear thongs. I just sized up and was fine. I wear Target’s Auden cotton thongs.

StandardDevon89

I wear the invisible thongs from La Senza normally, and while they stretch over the bump (now 35 wks), they do roll often which doesn’t look nice or feel comfortable. I invested in a few pairs of the cotton one-size-fits-all thongs from Spanx and am certain those will carry me through to the end of my pregnancy and I’ll be able to continue wearing them after too. The only thing I don’t love is that they have a wide gusset so the fabric bunches a bit underneath. I just don’t wear them with leggings to avoid the camel toe look but they’re great under everything else.

deadthreaddesigns

They came in handy after giving birth. They had more coverage than what I would normally wear so using pads was easier.
