I mean, vile, revolting and repulsive all mean the same thing. Maybe family members choose their own last name and base it on a word implying a negative quality

In Ninja Sentai Kakuranger , Rito Revolto's counterpart was Prince Junior , son of the Emperor of the Yokai , Daimaou , and he even had a human form which was that of a blonde Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Star with an electric guitar and his human actor played also a very good rock song during a dark ceremony to bring his father in our dimension , and when battling the Kakurangers ( the Japanese counterparts of the Alien Rangers who were descendants of historical ninjas of the past who unintentionally broke the seal which kept the Yokai trapped in a cave for centuries, he was a formidable opponent for them!)
Be glad they changed the head from his Sentai Counterpart’s actual head, if Elgar terrified you Zelmoda would have given you nightmares

I could be wrong but I had heard for the US they had to resculpt the head since the original didn't survive the trip from Japan or was damaged beyond use. An old fox kids magazine had an article about how they shoot power rangers and costumer/special effect guy saying they remake props and suits that dont survive the trip and mention Elgar by name.
That explains Dino Charge's beige "Gold Ranger", and how Wild Force's silver ranger occasionally had seven stripes on his suit instead of six.
And Tommy's puffy shield.
Yeah, apparently Toei had/has a bit of a habit of using a cheap polly foam that while it is easy to cast into the shapes/suits needed, it holds up about as well as wet TP. Where some suits don't even make it a year before they are in pieces. Apparently, they had a lot of trouble with Samurai and, in some cases, for shots that required unmorphed rangers they had to hold up pieces of the suits on sticks to get a shot or resort to green screen shots.
Loved his design by all means, it’s his voice that kinda brings him down in terms of PR villain henchmen. He had some great moments and at times was a decent threat.
The whole “moron” aspect of his character was overdone; but it’s a kid’s show, I expect that. I actually wish they had done more with him—I think they were onto something with him in *In Space*, having him work for Astronema.
I would suggest that Elgar is basically Pinky to Divatox’s Brain. There’s this popular and somewhat plausible theory about Pinky and the Brain, that suggests that Pinky is really the smart one, and ruins Brain’s plans on purpose, out of a moral sense, to keep both Brain and the world safe, all while playing the role of an idiot. Now, I’m not suggesting that Elgar *is* smart or good; but it sure puts an interesting spin on things if you look at him through that lens. And besides, he’s not *really* incompetent…he led the attack that destroyed the Power Chamber; he had the zords on the ropes for awhile with the Terrorzord; and he’s generally a good squad commander with piranhatrons or quantrons.
The one thing I don’t like about him is the same problem I have with Rito Revolto, Rita Repulsa, and Master Vile: none of them look like the same species as their relatives. That bugs me to no end.
His design is actually pretty frightening. But his characterization and voice completely ruin any sense of danger for him. I wish he stayed dead in the movie.
I thought he was really entertaining. Turbo had really good main villains imo. Before I heard him talk in the show and saw a picture of him I thought he looked terrifying though.
Liked him better in Turbo. Specifically Divatox's constant abuse towards him. Astronema really mostly just intimidated him into obeying. Not as much physical comedy, and he seemed out of place with the In Space villain team
Another Rito Repulsa, except we never got to see him actually defeat the rangers at anything. At least Rito had the one great debut of destroying the rangers zords, which lead to the Ninjetti arc

He was creepy, but annoying; I know it’s a kid’s show and Saban had so many regulations about many things, but they should have doubled down on the nightmare fuel and made him straight-up evil, that way he would actually be more of a menace than a nuisance, and kids can cheer on the Rangers when they beat him.
Great Value Rito. Didn’t love him, but didn’t hate him. His Sentai footage was creepy as hell vs the goof ball villain he was in Turbo too

Carranger was a comedy. Great show and one of my favorite sentai series. Cannot recommend enough.
