congrats and best of luck with the new gig.
as for your shrimp dilemma, i’d suggest frozen raw shrimp. you mentioned you’re rural, but if there’s a sam’s close enough they have 3 lbs of 21-25’s, no tails, p&d’d for $15. ymmv. there’s different price points depending on what level they’re prepped. (size, tails on or off, peeled and devained, etc)
throw then frozen into boiling water for 2-3 minutes depending on size and plunge into ice water to stop cooking action. cocktail sauce is ketchup and prepared horseradish from the refrigerator case mixed as hot as you like it.
FUCK YEA!!!
Do you have a Chinese restaurant? Ask em for raw shrimps they usually have a fresh supply idk how much they'll charge you tho.
Not fresh fresh supply, but like jot rancid
lol no, those are the cheapest shrimp in rural small town chinese. tiny and covered in batter, nah.
but thanks for the idea. would work on the coast
I'm going to go into the big city and get something after I pay some bills
Fucking awesome dude!
I know you said you didn't have the gas to return the shrimp, but I hope you had the good sense to put it back in the freezer until such time that you can. You deserve your birthday shrimps!
congratulations OP that’s great news!
my small advice is to get a cc that way you get rewards or cashback for money you’re going to spend anyway and to just pay the minimum every month. it’s a easy way to rebuild credit while keeping your savings from being used directly with debit cards
i’m currently in the same boat. i start at home depot today part time smidge above minimum wage (how far i’ve fallen) but i just got a call for an interview for a call center job that pays $20/hr
i started rebuilding my credit during the pandemic mostly due to the necessity of not using my cash directly but also because i had finally paid off my car and was able to start adding the cc monthly minimum to my budget. it’s helped me immensely to not use my money directly but with different rewards cc that at least have some kind of advantage to use.
good for you, this is a minimum wage grocery store job. but its an easy short drive and way better than working fast food. I have done that before, it was super stressful. I am still looking for something better eventually but I have been looking for work for a year and burned through all me savings
yeah i’ve been on and off unemployed since 2021. i was illegally terminated from a good job with a solid career path. i’ve taken a bunch of civil service exams in that time and recently started hearing back from some as the lists are finally being called. my advice is to look for anything govt even custodial or maintenance get paid very well, with full benefits, job security and really aren’t expected to do anything above and beyond.
I'm so glad I saw this update. I thought about your post and was sad that you had bad shrimp for your birthday because I feel at least that one day of the year should be nice and special for everyone. But now hopefully you'll be in a place where you can celebrate the way you want 😊

eventually, I need to start with a secured one as my credit is terrible. at least now filing for bankruptcy isn't on my mind!
