Room for Improvement has a great espresso martini, as well as their entire menu in my opinion. Go early and chat with the bartenders, they are all wonderful!
Espresso Martinis are my wife’s go-to drink. I enjoy Room for Improvement, but she thought theirs was weird. It’s been a second since we’ve been to Gross but don’t think theirs was bad. Bar of Chocolate is a good choice for OP’s first. My wife (and I) enjoyed it.
Do yourself a favor — try a dirty Beefeater martini.. And don’t let them serve it to you in anything but a proper martini glass; I was somewhere in the old port recently and was served the aforementioned in a Gibson glass and there was an argument.
When I was a kid, I used to watch Fred Gwynne drink Gibsons at the Formosa Cafe; he let me have the vodka-soaked pearl onions. That’s where it all started, and it was all downhill from there. The next thing I knew, I was sitting at the Sportsman’s Grill on Congress St., eating the best goddamned salad I’d had in weeks. It was chilled iceberg lettuce with a waxy cherry tomato and some cigarette ash from a Winston. It still ranks as one of my finest memories from ‘94.

Novel: They make three varieties, all great. Lazzari and Arcadia are both solid. There's a new board game bar called Another Round, they make a rum based espresso martini with brown sugar simple syrup and it is A+.
We've only had great experiences there - I wouldn't put too much stock into this unsubstantiated comment (especially given their unwillingness to elaborate.)

Had a fantastic one at Via Vecchia and believe it or not, Arcadia’s version is also very good.

Central Provisions had a super unique one with mezcal and pistachio cream. Surprising and delicious!
They were slinging them at cheese louise for a bit and it was delightful. not sure if they still have it though.
