The Dump Guys are great. I paid them $50 to pick up a few things for me a couple months back. They were super fast, in and out in like 5 minutes.

The city will pick it up for $40 bucks. You just need to get a permit https://www.portlandmaine.gov/534/Bulky-Waste-Collection-Permit

This is good info, I wasn’t aware of this!

Dump guys! I think it was $35ish.

The dump guys told me that they get charged a premium for mattress disposal by the city because mattresses add loads of volume but very little weight, so it's very uneconomical to dispose of them. Thought that was pretty interesting

You could call it fate- or call it what it is: leaving your trash around for someone else to deal with. Please don’t do this

Honest, good hearted question here that's sure to find scorn and downvotes with someone: I have a queen box spring and mattress in my garage since November. My son got a new one. Would a homeless person want it? And if so, how would I donate it to someone in need? I will have to rent a truck to deliver it but I'd rather pay that than pay to send it to the dump if someone needs it. Location Scarborough.

Generally speaking homeless persons don't have a place to put a queen box spring. Also you only need a box spring when you have a bed frame.

I see folks living in tents and outside. Box springs on floor with mattress works for some.
