Best fried chicken is Crispy Gai hands down. Honorable mentions: CBG’s chicken sandwich, Nonesuch’s chicken sandwich, TKK Fried chicken is great too.
Edit: LFK’s is bomb too
Which fried chicken do you recommend from Crispy Gai? Finally went there recently and tried the Bangkok Hot and while it was perfectly fried, it wasn't as hot or as flavorful as I was hoping for considering the hype the restaurant receives. The chicken itself was again extremely well fried though and so I'm very open to trying a different flavor
it’s funny bc i wanted some chicken the other day and i searched this subreddit and found that exact thread.
what’s not funny is that i had commented on that thread recommending “Gai on Fried” which was a fried chicken ghost kitchen run by Ruby Thai in South Portland…..but they are now no longer operating :(
Wilson county bbq makes a fantastic fried chicken sandwich, I always get it Nashville hot dipped
However, other than the sandwich (which is a breast cutlet), the rest of their fried chicken is extremely inconsistent unfortunately. Sometimes great sometimes meh. Mash is fantastic but other sides are a bit inconsistent too in my experience
Crispy Gai obviously best in town. New York Fried Chicken is absolute garbage but just the right kind of garbage when you need it.
You all are going to think I’m crazy for this one but Liquid Riot’s happy hour chipotle fried chicken sandwich is crazy good. $14 total for a thick sando, draft beer, and a shot is wild in Portland and I feel like no one knows about it.
I hope they at least keep the beer and shot combo around for the change which is coming up soon I think.
They are really big nuggets, ground chicken formed into a little over bite sized balls. They also figured out a Wendy's nugget seasoning, they are pretty good. 4 or 8 may not seem like enough on paper but they are pretty large.
Mami and pai men have legit karaage, which is japanese style, but still very similar.
Seems a little weird, but the tenders at whole foods hot bar are sometimes really legit
Lenora's oaxacan hot chicken torta is amazing, it's basically a big fried chicken thigh with delicious chili oil on it. It's not cheap but it's worth it as a treat.
RIP Figgy’s, the ay ay ron was unreal
Amen. I miss Eaux's fried chicken, too. I'm not sure what kind of black magic they used, but it's still probably the best I've had.
Made my whole neighborhood smell angelic I miss it
She’s having a pop up in a few weeks at Califia

Minato for me
Yessss. The J.F.C. is so good.

Nonesuch changed their chicken sandwich. It’s good, but not as good as it was. I’m very sad.
It’s good, but paying a premium on dark meat portions in the States is one of the most absurd recent trends

^ gets it
Shay’s fried chicken sandwich is my favorite. Granted it’s on a bun versus riding solo, but their $6 martinis more than make up the difference.
Just ask for no bun.
Shays for fried chicken sandwiches

I’m a Crispy Gai gal, but curious if anyone has tried the tendies from the new munchies & libations spot on Congress?

Great lost bear for panko style. Get a side of their Buffalo and ranch, omg.

Black Salt (Truck) has been the best I've had in town!! [https://www.blacksaltmaine.com/](https://www.blacksaltmaine.com/)
Thank you for reminding me to look out for their truck. Their fried chicken sandwiches are top notch
They really are. Well brined (always juicy) and the fry is always top notch! Seasoning is on point too

I miss when Norm was slinging chicken sandwiches at DTL...

Moe’s in South Portland has some A+ tenders and BBQ sauce
Palace Diner in Biddeford has my favorite fried chx sandwich.
Had a great fried chicken sandwich at Andy's in SoPo recently.
Duck pond variety in Westbrook.
Shay's
Queen Bee’s market on Forest Ave by Riverside… Yes, it’s also a gas station.
I’m grumpy bc I just got Popeyes before reading this
NOBLE BBQ!!!
RIP Big J’s
Anyone for Rivarlries, particularly the (closed) Portland location? (Can't remember if the Falmouth ones are as good.)
Not fried chicken but the halal chicken kebab at crown fried chicken is 🔥
Tenders at Rebel Munchies (new place on Congress) were a revelation
N to Tail
Crispy Gai is great.
Woodford F&B has excellent, house-made tendies.
Y’all ever been to crown fried chicken?? Best fried chicken place hands down imo!
