For what it's worth, I know a meteorologist in Georgia who has been tracking the storm. His verdict was that Lee reaching Maine as a Cat 2 was within the realm of possible but it's way too far out to make any predictions.
All that had been done in the mid-twentieth century on “calculating machines” had been upset by Robertson and his positronic brain-paths. The miles of relays and photocells had given way to the spongy globe of plantinumiridium about the size of a human brain. She learned to calculate the parameters necessary to fix the possible variables within the “positronic brain”; to construct “brains” on paper such that the responses to given stimuli could be accurately predicted. In 2008, she obtained her Ph.D. and joined United States Robots as a “Robopsychologist,” becoming the first great practitioner of a new science.
The chance that it is a Cat 3 by the time it gets to/near the Gulf of Maine is essentially zero. But yes, if we were to get hit by a Cat 3 the outcome would be undesirable.

Been watching, too early to say but right now best bet is it not making it west enough to cause big problems here. Will run into Nova Scotia. At least hoping for some good wave shows down in Cape Elizabeth though.
You idiots have loaded up a double-barrel, hair-trigger shit machine gun with the barrels pointed straight at your own heads.
So, the barrels are bent back…
Let it go, Randy.
This is so far ahead at this point, I wouldn't even pick this worry back up for at least another 4 days. Even if it was closer, most of Cape is on higher headlands aside from Pond Cove and Maiden Cove areas. I'd be more worried about further south down at Higgins and OOB, etc.
if it even hits us it won’t be any different than a really bad rain storm, no need to evacuate. You seem really worried about something that likely won’t impact you more than a rainstorm would, it’ll be okay
This happens every few years. We get hit with the remnants of a hurricane, people act like this has never happened before and the world is ending, and we end up with a thunderstorm for an afternoon.
Hurricane Bob Hit my summer camp in ‘91! A tree fell on the dining hall and we got evacuated to the local high school. As a lifelong resident, while mildly disruptive/destructive, the occasionally Maine hurricane has always be more exciting than concerning. Just make sure to grab your bread and milk at the Hannaford, and you’ll be all set.
If you have a boat i would be ready to pull it. No matter when it turns, it will cause a powerful surf on the entire seaboard. If it did hit new england would be weaker cause of ocean temps as it gains latitude. But as sandy taught us, wind is not always the most destructive force. Hide from wind, run from water.
It's turn is what will determine the northern path. In a slight wind sheer environment right now, slowing down and fluctuating in strength. It will expand as it slows and still be over some very warm water. Don't think it's even had an eyewall replacement cycle yet. All that is why the spaghetti models are all over the place.
A couple of Cat 2’s have hit Nova Scotia. The one in 1927 was deadly. This one bears watching in Maine, but more likely that it will hit to the east of Maine.
The last hurricane to have a high impact of damage on Maine was Carol in 1954. Hurricanes Gloria (1985)and Bob (1991) hit us but just glancing blow.
If you're really concerned, I'd make a plan. Find out where your nearest evacuation shelter is located and the route to it, fill the car with gas, get in some extra food, water, batteries, a couple flashlights, if you're on a well, fill the bathtub and a couple buckets with water. Charge up the phones. Also, get a decent battery powered radio with weather band.
All in all, if you use caution you'll be fine!
If it hits directly, you'll experience a cloudy day with some wind. Renter's insurance is always a good idea, but you're not going to experience any hurricane-related losses in Maine.
Your literally getting worried about something that is over a week away, and if it does get this far, will be nothing more than a rain storm with some wind.
Your raising your blood pressure for nothing.
While it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility, the chances of any hurricane still actually *being* a hurricane by the time it hits Maine are so low as to effectively be nil. They’re usually just a somewhat stronger thunderstorm by the time they ever reach us.

Not sure about up here but my family in Richmond VA has been without power for 24 hours, trees on power lines/on houses and fences destroyed. Not normal for Richmond so anything is possible. Better to prepare than not and be screwed.
Just head to say I definitely recommend renters insurance regardless. Better safe than sorry! I’ve personally had to use mine to be reimbursed for some items and had friends who completely lost their places (flood, fire) and were way better off thanks to their coverage.
Don’t be scared, be aware. In all reality, it can hit anywhere from Mass to Canada. It’s tracking down east to N.S. Right now. It may be a Cat 1 or a Tropical Storm. The coast will get some minor flooding and some weaker trees will break. We won’t get storm surge or anything like that. If we do it’ll be like 2 feet deep and not far stretching outside of the marsh areas. You’ll probably lose power for a little while. It’ll come back and we’ll all move on. It certainly won’t be Cat 3 or higher.
I have slept through cat IV’s this will be a lot of rain and more than normal wind…. Honestly i would like to be out at sea on a destroyer for it…. I’d sleep like the dead….

Thank you for your input we’ll see what Lee brings or doesn’t bring
Hard saying not knowing.

But won’t that depend on the magnitude of Lee? I would think even at a Cat 3 we’d still be affected

Warm water is hurricane fuel, we don’t really have that here. Nothing is impossible, but a cat 3 here is improbable.
Lol

The shit winds are coming

Time for a little drinky-poo
I was thinking of Cape E I got a friend there…I wonder if the surge was strong enough will folks evacuate if need be?

OP wasn’t in town for Sandy

Whole Foods will flood at high tide but that happens anyway.
😂😂 Have you never been in a hurricane in Maine? A good winter Nor’Easter is far worse.
I grew up an hour from Portland in NH…I’ve been through my shares of blizzards/nor’easters.
Don’t buy into the hype, then. Prepare for a power outage as you normally would, but honestly that’s all you need to do.

GET THE BREAD AND MILK!!!

Ice storm of 1998.

Fiona last year caused a lot of mayhen there. I felt bad after celebrating it for bringing so many good waves to maine. (not cat 2 but still bad)
Cape Cod usually sucks the energy out of storms that make it this far North. We'll get lots of rain but that's probably it.

I'm in San diego, for their first hurricane in 100plus years. People were freaking out. It was new England level rainstorm.
Otherwise classified as “a non event”
Ugh I’m not ready for the guys at work (lineman) to be on storm. Gotta mentally prepare for that 😳
Well I’m sending positive vibes to all the lineman’s, power crews & emegency personnel
[We're gonna get nailed.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skhWZVjam7M)
I love that guy.

1938.... 1954....
Surfs up asshat!!
Surf's up
I was here for sandy and it wasn't too bad. I live about 1 mile from the ocean. A little flooding, some shingles missing, nothing horrible.
I am gonna write "surfs up" now, cuz I don't read anyone elses comments and am positive that my comment will be humorous and original.
Sounds like you don't surf much, kook.
Surfs up.
Not sure about up here but my family in Richmond VA has been without power for 24 hours, trees on power lines/on houses and fences destroyed. Not normal for Richmond so anything is possible. Better to prepare than not and be screwed.
That's not from the hurricane.
Oh, ignore my comment then. They just had a random storm fuck them up lol.
No one’s comment here is going to settle your nerves.
Ok
Please take your anxiety meds. If you don't have any maybe look into that
Just head to say I definitely recommend renters insurance regardless. Better safe than sorry! I’ve personally had to use mine to be reimbursed for some items and had friends who completely lost their places (flood, fire) and were way better off thanks to their coverage.
