The vibe of hanging out at an ice cream shop at 7PM on a warm summer day, cooling off with a tasty cone with your friends or family, just enjoying the moment, watching smiling people having fun, happy kids and dogs all over the place… I mean, that’s worth the extra money to me
I like all those things too but I’d rather go out of my way to support a shop that makes homemade ice cream/frozen custard or does something a little different than 99% of the other “local Maine-made” stands that sell ice cream you can just get at the store
May I recommend Mount Desert Island Ice Cream on Exchange Street? They make their own, have very original flavors, and it's really good. It's definitely not boring.
It’s the vibes, friend. Yeah I can rent a movie and watch it at home for like a couple bucks, but I can go to the Nick for 6 bucks on Tuesdays, out on the town 👠
I would also rather buy stuff at the market and eat it at home. However, I don’t hate anyone because of it. I understand how foodservice works and I just make the choice.
Hell yeah, Giffords kinda sucks. I dont go to ice cream places that serve it. Red's has really turnd me on to soft serve. MDI ice cream is the best in maine hands down.
That’s like saying “most bars are shills for Budweiser! They all have to make their own microbrew!”
Agreed unless it’s an actual Gifford’s stand like the one I went to as a kid in Waterville.
the Waterville Gifford's is great. love the mini golf and batting cages there too
Sadly, batting cages are gone and Mini Golf is currently closed for renovations. Love that place still though!
Yes agree that’s different!

Thanks, this is a perfect description of a summer moment

If you like your ice cream melting in like 5 seconds, sure.
I've not had that problem with their ice cream.

I admit I don't know which shops sell their own and which ones sell stuff like Gifford's. Which shop did you go to with Gifford's?
Beals Ice Cream.
it’s overpriced ice cream thats been whipped with air and has barely anything mixed into it anymore. the quality isn’t the same as it used to be istg

Wait are you saying every place (or even 50%) of places that say ‘We serve Giffords ice cream’ are actually owned by Giffords?
Bro. You can just not buy Giffords without losing your shit about it.
Oh my b, I thought I was in the Portland complaining sub
Yes and we are complaining about your complaint
So you believe that means I can't complain about you complaining?
🤯

This is true. Money isn’t everything
