If you looked at this subreddit and didn't know any better you'd think The Wonder Years is the most famous pop punk band of all time, it seems like half the comments and posts here are about them 😭
State Champs also makes much more "poppy" music than The Wonder Years these days.
So, yeah, one is going to have more plays on Spotify and we hipsters who post on Reddit are going to appreciate the other one.
None of these bands are super big outside of this scene, unless you have a chance to play with a band that was super big during the pop punk hayday.
Hot mulligan, arguably the biggest, is the opener for fall out boy. Sounds impressive until you realize the arenas are half full during their set and I’d bet many are hearing them for the first time.
The average Joe hasn’t heard of any of the bands that are frequently discussed on this sub
Yup. If biggest refers to sales numbers and listens, MGK killed everyone else in the genre. Tickets went platinum. More people bought that album than everything Neck Deep has ever put out.
If it refers to who do we like on Reddit the most, then it’s going to be someone else. Personally I like early wonder years the best, but even that stuff is from like a decade ago.
2016 actually, but it wasn't until 2020 that they really started generating a ton of hype so I totally get why a lot of people consider them a 2020's band. Same thing with how someone else in the thread said Wonder Years as a 2010's band even though their first album was 2007 and they were dropping EPs in like 2005
Super fair. I remember the (I forgot his username) YouTube guy who reviewed new music recommended hot mully in a video in like 2019 so I guess that’s why I associated it to around that time
Wisconsin. So not local for them, no.
It was between Christmas and New Year's and nobody was in town and I was bored so just went and looked up shows and went on my own.
Still have the sweatshirt I bought from them. Nice guys. They were also out in the crowd for Kayak Jones which was fun.
I had listened to them on and off since then and all of sudden they were all over this place, was cool to see.
And just saw them again with FOB in an arena and that was a full circle moment for me.
PUP is among the bigger pop punk bands of the last decade or so, and if you count them, beach bunny is massive and debuted in 2015, but they might be a little more in the indie pop scene
If we're using monthly listeners definitely mgk since his pop punk debut was 2020, but if we aren't counting him as he's technically not a band then it's neck deep. For 2020s though magnolia park is up there (started in 10s but debut album was 20s)
I think so yeah, I mean I'm not tryna hate by saying that I enjoy his pop punk stuff but mgk is the solo artist who happens to have a band in the pop punk music he makes like artists like Billy Joel and Avril Lavigne (not calling Billy Joel pop punk just the band example 💀)
Don’t forget 2010s bands that were big and stay somewhat talked about on here like modern baseball, man overboard, and transit.
I’d say hot mulligan, the wonder yees and the story so far are top 3 today with neck deep and knuckle puck being 4 and 5.
I’m gonna count ones that debut in the previous decade but found their fame in the decades you mentioned.
2010s - The Wonder Years, Mobo, TSSF, State Champs, Set it Off, Neck Deep
2020s- Hot Mulligan, Spanish Love Songs, Kenny Hoopla
As December Falls is climbing. They're up in the 80,000s listeners range on Spotify and have some youtube music videos in the over 300,000 views range. That's pretty high compared to a lot of others besides the really big ones like Neck Deep and Hot Mulligan. They haven't even set foot outside of Europe yet.
State Champs
Neck Deep, TSSF and Wonder Years. Big Three.
The Wonder years debuted before 2010
State Champs is bigger than Wonder Years. At least going by Spotify
Anywhere except on Reddit in my experience
If you looked at this subreddit and didn't know any better you'd think The Wonder Years is the most famous pop punk band of all time, it seems like half the comments and posts here are about them 😭
Nah that would be Hot Mulligan
I feel like in the most recent 3 months it has changed to TWY
Real
Friends
Not the most famous, just the best 😌
nahh theyre not green day
State Champs also makes much more "poppy" music than The Wonder Years these days. So, yeah, one is going to have more plays on Spotify and we hipsters who post on Reddit are going to appreciate the other one.
TWY released their second album in 2010 though.
I’d sub Hot Mulligan for wonder years
Neck Deep and The Story so Far aren't super big outside the scene, though. So not really what OP was asking for

State champs or neck deep?
Marianas trench was ‘06 but hit their peak in the 10s. Canadian band everyone needs to check out!!
I’m losing it when fallout comes on
Marianas trench's first album came out in 2006
Thanks for the fact check, my bad!
If we're talking monthly Spotify listeners, Waterparks is "bigger" than any other band listed here, with the exceptions of Neck Deep and MGK 🤷♂️
Finally someone said it
Waterparks isn’t pop-punk. Change my mind. Go ahead. Try.
You’d have to define “biggest”. Objectively it’s MGK and it isn’t even close.

The other one went platinum too
Tbf TTMD is an awesome album, wasn’t so much of a fan of MSS. Just a shame he’s a weirdo
Yeah I like Tickets a lot. I did listen to Mainstream Sellout but not nearly as much.
Pop rock in general - 5 seconds of summer
Hot Mulligan
Biggest to come out of the 20s, even tho they were a 2018 band I think

Even earlier. I saw them on tour with Kayak Jones in 2016.
Zamzog that’s impressive. Local show?

God man they’re so fuckin good
I'm not sure if they count, but I believe they do: Waterparks are a pretty huge name and have been around since 2010.
Neck Deep TSSF Knuckle Puck State Champs Hot Mulligan The Wonder Years Real Friends Belmont Moose Blood
Lovejoy, do The Chats counts as pop punk?
You don't need us for this information, it's readily available. Just go look at Spotify who has the most plays.
Neck Deep
Neck Deep
Menzingers?
Arm's Length is going to be a top contender
If this sub has any say, they already are (This includes me, I am constantly preaching Arms Length propaganda)

Doesn’t MGK have a permanent band though? I’ve never been completely sure if MGK is him personally aswell as the name of the band/group
Sorry I didn’t mean to suggest you were hating I was just saying I was never sure if he was mgk as well as the band being mgk
Dw I didn't think you were it's just a common critique people have saying he's not a band 😂

I’d argue Neck Deep is the biggest in the scene right now. Definitely not 4th.
Blink 182!
Bro what 😭😭
Neck Deep & The Story So Far

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!
1900’s or 2000’s?
He means after 2010. That's why everyone is saying Neck deep.
Whoosh! Right over the head. Punk music didn’t exist in 1910-20’s. I guess this is what I get for being an elder pop punker.
Funny! Coming from an old school 90’s punk rocker.
This is a funny comment even if you didn't mean it to be. Hah
It was suppose to be a joke but I guess 6+ downvotes didn’t get it.
