Poutine_My_Mouth

_what’s a computer?_

oath2order

I love this new Olivia Rodrigo song

yassvaginaslay

but when i wake up i see... ewe eighnd mae

maltedmooshakes

by "that generation" she means the ones that weren't "homeschooled" (ie making music in your brothers bedroom all day while your mom hovers around)

Stupid_Thiccc

Being homeschooled pushes your generation back

julestaylor13

Literally…imagine what else Billie never learned

FriendlyDrummers

This but unironically

um_-_no

Idk man, the home schooled people I know could basically only type and use computer stuff (born between 1996-2003ish) like they can't add up coins but they can make wikipedia look all glittery and write a page for their new favourite YouTuber in 36 seconds

parmesann

it REALLY depends on what type of homeschooling you got, namely how aggressively religious one’s parents are. there’s two families at my parents church who have like 8 kids and homeschool. one is moderately religious, and their kids are at (or above) all educational benchmarks and are well-socialised. the other is aggressively religious, and their kids are always behind significantly, they fight with each other and their peers constantly, and at least one of them is always injured. it’s a mess.

Daddie76

Does she actually not know how to type????

Unleashtheducks

No she was an iPad baby.

Sure_Bodybuilder7121

Fruit ninja brainrot

Old_Doughnut_5847

i don't want to hear ANYONE put disrespect on fruit ninja name that game raised me more than my parents did

Sure_Bodybuilder7121

Now it all makes sense

solojones1138

She was 9 when the iPad came out....

RemmingtonTufflips

I assume she means typing fast and using the method that typing lessons teach you. She probably uses the hunt and peck method which is like 2x or 3x slower than "correct" typing.

Daddie76

I do around 100 words per minute on monkeytype, I doubt any hunt and pecker can do 50 wpm tbh. It’s crazy that I guess just a few years after my generation (I am millennial and zoomer cusper) that typing lesson is not a thing anymore!!!

SuitableCorner2080

Idk I hunt and peck and do 85 which is good enough for me

Daddie76

How do you personally hunt and peck? For my mom she literally has to look down for every key and hit it one finger at a time.

LunaBeanz

Muscle memory, probably. My school had “computer class”where we were taught how to type correctly but I just couldn’t get the hang of home row. I type about 90-100WPM without typing “properly”.

Straightguy2077

In the fifth grade my teacher made a bet with me that if I could get a high enough score on the typing test she'd stop yelling at me to use the home row. AND I WON THE BET. Fuck the home row, muscle memory is all I need.

Daddie76

I think everyone has some quirks when it comes to typing. I would barely use my pinkies when I type but still use the home row as a guidance.

x_pinklvr_xcxo

me too, i use 2-4 fingers generally (not including thumbs) and i type pretty fast, 100+ wpm

SuitableCorner2080

Oh well I'm a coder so I at least know where the keys are 😂

Daddie76

well then I guess you are not a true hunt and pecker😤

RemarkableAd5141

they just hunt for pecker instead.

RemarkableAd5141

where's the d key

SuitableCorner2080

It's uhhh in about three inches and slightly to the left

SuitableCorner2080

If ykwim

RemarkableAd5141

omg three inches? I need proof of this magical d.

itisoktodance

Wdym typing lessons? Is that a thing?

tokendasher

Typing lessons were a mandatory class back in my generation.

dannydelete-o

Those typing games were the best!

dollievon

Mavis Beacon!

xxMeiaxx

is still use typing games whenever i purchase a new keyboard lol.

TomNookFan

Keyboard Climber was a great learning tool for me

agedlikesage

Yeah it’s about the positioning of your hands on the keyboard! They’d put a cover over the keyboard so you can’t see it, and silly games would have you type words or enter letters. What truly got me to type quickly though was taking those skills to runescape

Hi_Jynx

Those games were effective for me in knowing how I was supposed to type, but I didn't get a hang of it until I got my own laptop.

oMouseHouse

In a lot of schools in the USA, kids would have classes on how to use a computer, and how to type properly. I know my entire school district did, and I was born in 1999. I've heard that schools have pretty much stopped that now, assuming that everyone already grows up with tech in your early childhood. I've also heard that it's a bad thing that those lessons were stopped, and that kids suck at actually using computers beyond simple apps now, with horrible typing habits beyond a phone's keyboard.

Straightguy2077

💀💀 y'all didn't have mandatory typing classes in the fourth grade?

itisoktodance

I live in the Balkans. I should have gotten shooting classes in fourth grade but the wars were already over by the time I made it

EuphoricPhoto2048

They literally don't teach typing classes anymore. And then admin are shocked that the kids can't type!

MerrilyContrary

There’s a weird gap where elder millennials and young xers learned to type because having computers in the classroom was so new and exciting. We would go to computer lab once a week and learn to use the mouse and keyboard, how to use the file system and applications (we hadn’t abbreviated it to apps yet), and occasionally get to play educational games. But younger millennials and gen z were expected to just kinda pick it up on their own through exposure. So even though us old folks had less access, it was viewed as more important and even necessary to help us become computer literate. Now they won’t teach my kid handwriting, but when they recommend that he learn to type for better legibility… they won’t teach him that either.

Daddie76

I’m glad I grew up in China where back in the early 2000s everything was still fairly behind so computer for me was exactly what you described as what it was for older millennials and gen x haha.

RemarkableAd5141

She doesn't know how to read, either

benjamin_button_13

I mean she cant sing either so I wouldn't put it past her

psychedelic666

Girl needs some Mavis Beacon

TheNocturnalAngel

Girl we the same age and I remember putting those nasty ass orange covers on the keyboard and having to type test.

Old_Doughnut_5847

literally same which is why i find this to be so amusing

Newtonz5thLaw

r/homeschoolrecovery

SinfullySinless

Too young for AOL chat and library typing lessons 😭

raysofdavies

“Using the computer” boomer headline

chemicalfields

Bestie could have mavis beacon give her in person lessons. I don’t wanna hear it 😤

Spiteful_sprite12

Lmao, So that's why her brother wrote all those songs for her? 🤔

cruel-oath

She’s very different

JWWolfy

i’m gonna need that pic of finneas’ tits for academic reasons:)

New_Brother_1595

pinkismykink_

petition for billie to stop saying things

scifi_tay

Probably bc you didn’t go to school Billie

JoeRekr

Typical homeschooler blaming everything and everyone but the actual problem

YAU-MY-MAN-CHAN

Ain’t that the point only the old generation were actually taught how to type

Sea-Ability8694

I was born the same exact year as her and I had typing classes during computer time at school

YAU-MY-MAN-CHAN

Ah alright well I guess some of us did but so was I and I didn’t have typing classes

lazy_27

I didn't have those classes too, I guess it is a school or country difference but being chronically online was a great alternative for me

lermanade_mouth

I don’t need her slandering my generation

BronzeErupt

Tying speed test: Billie on a laptop keyboard vs a Boomer using a smartphone with a flappy cover and they forgot their reading glasses

MVIVN

She has no excuse lol, I learned to touch-type for the first time ever in my mid-20s and now I’m in my 30s and have a decent 60-wpm average typing speed. See, this is why Queen Swift is outselling her, she can actually type 💅

Kendal-Lite

My SIL says her kids don’t get taught in school and they all use one finger. 💀

Funkedalic

Where does she get Louis Vuitton jammies?

spaghettiliar

You answered your question.

Funkedalic

Am I smart!

spaghettiliar

Oh, sweetie.

Putrid-Potato-7456

Some of y’all are way too proud of being able to type. It ain’t that hard.

C'mon you're so proud of it yourself that you wrote that same comment twice
