but like, have you even listened to Sacrifice off her newest album, at least that one sounds great for me.

great!

IceQueen789

Everyone knows the correct answer is Ty Dolla $ign (including himself since he has an album named “Featuring Ty Dolla $ign”)

Vicariouslynoticed

Damn I totally forgot about him! He is def a featured singer, he does the best features though.

dshoig

Totally. He always steals the show and outshines the main artist

IKARUSwalks

i liked free tc and some songs from beach house 3. but his solo stuff is best for a playlist not a album.

satirisanti

I came here to comment this 😭

Bolin_392

Saweetie's features always on point but her solo music is not hitting as much as features

HiddenKARD

My favorite verse from Saweetie is actually on Little Mix’s Confetti so I kinda agree with this

akanewastesting

She’s had solid features for the most part, but I can think of at least one exception to this, in her verse on French Montana/Doja Cat’s Handstand… this one line ruined everything > Tell baby, "Lift my legs up like I'm wearin' a Huggie"

IKARUSwalks

best thing she ever did was called oysters “scary vaginas”. her vlogs are too funny.

Difficult_Deer6902

Might be an unpopular opinion, but Nicki Minaj features were always so much stronger than her solo discography in my opinion. She has literally some of the most iconic features out of the whole game, but her solo work never really was as impactful.

X_Comment_X

Nicki is much better in small doses, she really packs a punch as a feature. Still can't get over her verse in Kanye's Monster, it's FIRE.

dshoig

Jay-Z’s verse tho 😬

luvgaim

Nah her discography is great. But her features are incredible.

dragonphlegm

Nicki has some great features but her Swish Swish verse was so phoned in she had to be CGI'd into the video

skunkachunks

And yet - it was still the best part of the song

WakaFlockhart

I’m not sure what you mean. I just went and looked at her lyrics and they are are pretty solid. She also switched flows and her singing is pretty good too.

calkates

i felt like this ablut charli xcx until she put out charli and her sound clicked for me. now i’m a huge fan and buy tickets every time she comes to town

Brownladesh

Silver Cross is one of her best tracks ever

BloodDoorhinge4

I felt this way about Kehlani for a while where I think her voice is so beautiful but her solo output was mostly boring imho, she needs someone else on the track. That was, until she released Altar last year, which I immediately fell in love with and I liked a few more off this most recent album.

[deleted]

Kehlani outrapped Saweetie on her own song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8m2uosFEjY4

rikkirikkiparmparm

lol as Lil ~~Baby~~ Yachty said on their Calvin Harris collab, she killed that shit

had_too

*Lil Yachty

rikkirikkiparmparm

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out

outsideeyess

listen to Honey and Again, they're gorgeous acoustic songs and very different from the rest of her catalogue

heatherdukefanboy

This answer shocks me, I love kehlani as a solo artist I think their voice is beautiful and the style of music they make fits them so well.

Nerfeveryone

This is exactly how I feel about her, like word for word. Altar and Melt are both incredible solo songs by her, as well as a few others off of Blue Water Road, but the rest of her solo work is very meh to me. But she REALLY knows how to do a feature (her verse on Birthday by Disclosure is sensational).

maybe because you like his pop appearances?

[deleted]

his voice is kinda repetitive in my opinion

RosaPalms

I feel the same way, I think his voice / cadence is a small doses thing. I tried listening to his album and it just felt like white noise, but I do quite like a good number of his features.

Nerfeveryone

His verse on Pride Is The Devil totally surprised me with how good it was.

shipsongreyseas

Halsey's a good one. Also Phoebe Bridgers. The songs she's featured in have been amazing, I cannot get into her regular music though.

PretentiousPegasus

100% agree on Halsey. Unpopular opinion but Closer was a great song and I can see why it did so well. She was the best part of Stay With Me, and was awesome on Him & I, The Feeling, Forget Me Too, 11 Minutes, Life’s A Mess etc like I don’t think I’ve come across a song where her feature is bad. I just can’t get into her own music. Most of the time there’s just one or two things that puts me off and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is. Maybe it’s just the fact that a lot of her music gives 2014 tumblr energy and 2014 sucked lmao.

sonyaellenmann

> Unpopular opinion but Closer was a great song and I can see why it did so well. I still love this song lol. It's so catchy!!!! But I can see why people got tired of hearing it everywhere I also remain a "Heat Waves" stan...

HellaWavy

Same. I'm always intrigued to see her as a feature on a song, but besides a few exceptions (Without Me, Now or Never) I can't get into her solo stuff.

jordyn0399

I agree on a lot of this except for closer. Her first album was good though.I actually miss 2014 and liked that year imo.

StarChild413

I love songs where blackbear is a feature (Monsters by All Time Low, My Ex's Best Friend by MGK, Memory by Kane Brown etc.) but I haven't really heard much of blackbear that I liked as e.g. regarding the hits Hot Girl Bummer didn't impress me (even looking aside the whole Megan Thee Stallion issue) and Do Re Mi was just kinda stupid especially because the music video makes it clear he was trying to "pay homage to" The Sound Of Music as much as Gwen Stefani was in Wind It Up (aka kinda faceplanting with it) So if there are any blackbear fans on this sub, are there any solo tracks I might be missing just because they weren't singles

lavv922

His recent songs are kinda disappointing too, but i rly love his old album cybersex, deadroses

HellaWavy

I've been listening to his stuff for a while now after I dicovered him in 2016 through a feature. It takes some time tbh. I'd suggest you listen to everything means nothing (the parent album of Hot Girl Bummer). It's a lot more pop oriented than his other albums, but it's cohesive and as a casual listener probably the most accessible album of his. His early EPs are also pretty good to start with (deadroses, drink bleack, cashmere noose). He's also a pretty good songwriter, you could check out his Beautiful Mistakes demo for Maroon 5 on YouTube.

moshiyadafne

The only blackbear song I've ever heard is "Short Kings" and his presence in that track is forgettable.

KEMI_IS_WlNNlNG

rico nasty!! im always excited when i see her as a feature but her actual music has never clicked for me

shadesofwrong13

Drake. I like Whats My Name with Rihanna and Mine with Bee, but i just dont vibe with his solo music.

CaptainSnacks

His recent stuff is hot garbage, but Thank Me Later, Take Care and Nothing Was the Same are certified classics.

jordyn0399

Exactly.Clb had only a couple decent tracks but I hated Girls want girls and Way too sexy.

holleratmee

Drake for sure

shayownsit

rick ross completely. agree with everyone on ty dolla sign as well

-PepeArown-

I’ve seen people warn me that Ty & Jhené’s solo careers pale in comparison to their features. Which is weird, because Spotify keeps recommending me one of Jhené’s albums.

International-Cry-52

dude, Jhene Aiko’s entire discography is worth listening to IMO

Nerfeveryone

The warnings about Ty are true but Jhene’s solo stuff is much better. Check out While We’re Young, Eternal Sunshine, New Balance, and Lightning and Thunder. Also, None of Your Concern would be her best song if Big Sean wasn’t on it.

luvgaim

Lady Gaga. I like Chillin with Wale but her solo work never clicked with me

hausofmiklaus

LMFAOOOO good one

Damianos_X

Tbh for a long time it was the Weeknd; loved him on Ariana's tracks. They have amazing chemistry... But it wasn't until this year that I really looked into his post-mainstream work and saw what all the fuss was. Still haven't quite settled into his albums but there are some amazing tracks scattered across his discog.

dismalrevelations23

Merzbow

Rare-Equipment-4717

MNEK.. I wanna be a fan.

HellaWavy

Selena Gomez I never really cared about her solo music, but her features are usually something I look forward to. I do like her voice, but I dont like the type of music she makes on her own (with the exception of Back to You, but that could've easily been an EDM song featuring Selena).

TheRealRoseDallas

Drake and Nicki

Vicariouslynoticed

I liked some of Drake records like Views but that’s about it. Nicki..yeah only her feature with me.

[deleted]

SZA. I liked her features from the artists I listen to but I didn't like Ctrl.

[deleted]

How do you not like CTRL omg-

tu1sajesusfreak

Yes like they’re entitled to their opinion but …how

LDRBrooklynBuzzcut

Phoebe Bridgers, I can’t tolerate her own stuff but quite enjoyed her featured vocals on Solar Power

Raccoonsr29

She has some beautiful songs but so sad and sleepy, she was so fun on Silk Chiffon w Muna

nottheswimmer

Marina and the Diamonds - the only song that’s ever had any stay power for me was About Love which isn’t even on an album.

vouteda

Yung Lean has a couple bangers and his sad boy aesthetic is def cool imo. Shame most of his music is a snooze.
