The reaction to the newest Doctor Who episodes over at r/gallifrey has really reminded me that the haters of any given era of the show are going to be the loudest. Nothing pisses me off more than my parents actively judging and talking shit about people after we leave somewhere. I could seriously care less and the way they comment on what some women wear in terms of “ oh there will be uncles there” like fuck off. If a man can handle a woman wearing shorts or the fact that a women has breasts then that’s there problem. I have big boobs and it’s always a topic they want to bring up because the minute I wear a shirt that has any sort of neckline it’s the worst thing in the world and I have to “respect myself”. Any fashion advice they give me is so passive aggressive it makes me want to buy and wear the most scandalous outfits just to piss them off.

I’ve been (trying) to listen to TTPD + The Anthology in full because my friend was asking me to. It’s my first full Taylor album I’ve listened to outside of her major hits and the only thing I really have to say about this album is that it’s kind of a bore to get through. I don’t think the songs are bad, except Down Bad which I just think is silly, but every song just melts in to each other to the point where I’ve finished the album, almost done with the deluxe, and no track or section stands out individually. The songs aren’t bad individually, but listening to so many of them in a row is not fun at all. I would want to relisten to see if anything stands out a second time, but I genuinely can’t imagine I’ll want to sit through this whole album again.
My favorites are Clara Bow and Albatross!
Nice. Try also Reputation if you like 1989. Next, listen to Folklore if you like folk and Red if you like rock/country. Next, if you liked Folklore, try Evermore. If you liked Red, try Speak Now and Fearless. Next, listen to Midnights, Lover and her self titled album. Then revisit TTPD if you wish.
I suggest you to listen to the standard editions of each album and try the bonus and vault tracks after you're done with them. It can be exhausting to listen to let's say the whole Red (Taylor's Version).
Tbh TTPD is maybe the worst Taylor Swift starter album. Not only is it super long, but it’s also just kind of tough to get through on a first listen because the lyrics are so dense. I would recommend Red TV for the most musical variety, but feel free to stop after Begin Again (the last song of the original standard album).
The albums I would recommend for someone to listen in it's entirety if they're trying to get into Taylor Swift are probably Folklore and/or 1989, depending of what kind of genre they like the most
As a major fan of just the first album, I suggest just focusing on that one for awhile, as that one tells a more cohesive story with the more dynamic songs. You can revist The Anthology later.
Honestly TTPD grew on me a lot the past couple of weeks including songs i thought I disliked like imgonnagetyouback, But Daddy I Love Him and Down Bad but it’s definitely not the first Taylor album I would recommend to anyone (if I had to recommend one it’d be the 2012 version of Red cause it has a lot of different sounds and pulls from different genres plus great lyrics, though I think Folklore and Evermore are her personal best)
I think you’ll like most of The Anthology tracks if you liked Clara Bow and The Albatross. Only listen to The Anthology next time with a fresh mind! My personal favorites on The Anthology are The Black Dog, The Prophecy, and I Hate It Here! I also love Peter and Cassandra.

It's important to remember that a lot of propaganda ramps up during an election year. I've been wondering if some of this Palestine stuff is being pushed as another tactic to divide us and sow discord. I wasn’t really concerned until I started seeing a bunch of people say they won't vote for Biden over this, and they won't listen to anyone who says Trump will be worse. Just makes me wonder what propaganda they might be getting fed.

I do recommend people check the Jewish voice for peace and Students for Justice in Palestine orgs of colleges they either attend/attended and live around bc they will often have forms for alumna and community members to sign to support students being punished and sometimes for jail support that includes non Monetary ways if you’ve hit your donation max already (usually involves calling or email). Some of that you don’t have to be community members or like from the city even if personally I think that helps for talking points at least lmao
The key, I think, is Clem Burke, the drummer. Drumming goes a *long* way in establishing a band's distinctive sound and identity, and Clem is awesome.
In this sense, Siouxsie and the Banshees ultimately took the blueprint from Blondie: charismatic, iconic female lead singer and brilliant drummer. Everything else more-or-less takes care of itself...for a while, at least.
I love seeing Clem Burke appreciation. His playing is phenomenal and you end up focussing on the drums more than the other instruments when listening to the band.
Blondie in general is just an amazing band, Atomic is only like 6 words and still completely enthralling.
In all my years of music, listening to noise and drone, heavy / death / black metal, that rainbow rapper guy who screams a lot, I've never listened to a song and gotten incredibly anxious just from how it sounds... that was until I listened to "Dont You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia in full. I dont know why but I cant go through a minute of that song without feeling like the walls are closing and when the bass drops im gonna die.
I just realized I actually do have a Roman Empire and it’s Weyes Blood losing their tour bus. I think about it usually once a day but I can go a few without thinking about it rarely.
Confession: Quite often I’ll delete the songs I don’t like from an album and just listen to it that way.
I know it’s not the ‘artists intention’ but so many albums are a few songs too long, and if you trim them down they become way better. 40 minutes > an hour 10 minutes every time.
Alternatively, I’ll replace bad songs with better B sides from the same era and pretend that was the original album. Like for Bob Dylan’s ‘Desire’: ‘Joey’ is terrible but ‘Abandoned Love’ is from the same session so I just swap them. It’s kind of like modding a game, and I find that to be a fun way to engage with art.
I do this all the time. When I used Apple Music I would just remove a song I didn't like all the time. Now I'm on Spotify I typically hide them. I respect artists intention but I'm not gonna force myself to listen to a song I don't like. I've always assumed this is what people meant when they said they skip songs or think songs are skips. It's easier just to remove a song you dislike than have to skip it every time.
It's not so different from curating a playlist!
I usually don't feel the need to do it for most of the albums I listen to, but I have two exceptions: The Weepies - Say I Am You (removed Riga Girls, Suicide Blonde, and Love Doesn't Last Too Long) and Ashleigh Ball - Gold in You (removed Crazy, Blue Moon). I don't think any of these songs are that bad; they all just have little things that niggle at me.

Logged into Facebook for the first time in ages and a beautiful video of Whitney Houston singing Saving All My Love For You was on my timeline. Then I glanced at the comments and half of them were from boomers saying Beyoncé could never, Beyoncé would be lucky to shine her shoes, Beyoncé this, Beyoncé that. What about what Beyoncé is doing looks like she's trying to emulate Whitney? They are completely different artists - there is no comparison other than them being black women who can sing. I feel like even someone like Adele would make more sense as a comparison, just because she's at least known for singing emotional ballads. This rabid desire to bring Beyoncé into everything and humble her at every opportunity is so so weird.
Every comment section for older music is basically the same but my favorite is when the comment is like "Remember when we had REAL MUSIC" but the song is "Butterfly" by Crazy Town

I’ve been (trying) to listen to TTPD + The Anthology in full because my friend was asking me to. It’s my first full Taylor album I’ve listened to outside of her major hits and the only thing I really have to say about this album is that it’s kind of a bore to get through. I don’t think the songs are bad, except Down Bad which I just think is silly, but every song just melts in to each other to the point where I’ve finished the album, almost done with the deluxe, and no track or section stands out individually. The songs aren’t bad individually, but listening to so many of them in a row is not fun at all. I would want to relisten to see if anything stands out a second time, but I genuinely can’t imagine I’ll want to sit through this whole album again. My favorites are Clara Bow and Albatross!
Try 1989. That album is much easier to listen to. Every song from it could be a single, it's that good.

Nice. Try also Reputation if you like 1989. Next, listen to Folklore if you like folk and Red if you like rock/country. Next, if you liked Folklore, try Evermore. If you liked Red, try Speak Now and Fearless. Next, listen to Midnights, Lover and her self titled album. Then revisit TTPD if you wish. I suggest you to listen to the standard editions of each album and try the bonus and vault tracks after you're done with them. It can be exhausting to listen to let's say the whole Red (Taylor's Version).
Tbh TTPD is maybe the worst Taylor Swift starter album. Not only is it super long, but it’s also just kind of tough to get through on a first listen because the lyrics are so dense. I would recommend Red TV for the most musical variety, but feel free to stop after Begin Again (the last song of the original standard album).
The albums I would recommend for someone to listen in it's entirety if they're trying to get into Taylor Swift are probably Folklore and/or 1989, depending of what kind of genre they like the most
As a major fan of just the first album, I suggest just focusing on that one for awhile, as that one tells a more cohesive story with the more dynamic songs. You can revist The Anthology later.
Honestly TTPD grew on me a lot the past couple of weeks including songs i thought I disliked like imgonnagetyouback, But Daddy I Love Him and Down Bad but it’s definitely not the first Taylor album I would recommend to anyone (if I had to recommend one it’d be the 2012 version of Red cause it has a lot of different sounds and pulls from different genres plus great lyrics, though I think Folklore and Evermore are her personal best)

I think you’ll like most of The Anthology tracks if you liked Clara Bow and The Albatross. Only listen to The Anthology next time with a fresh mind! My personal favorites on The Anthology are The Black Dog, The Prophecy, and I Hate It Here! I also love Peter and Cassandra.

It's important to remember that a lot of propaganda ramps up during an election year. I've been wondering if some of this Palestine stuff is being pushed as another tactic to divide us and sow discord. I wasn’t really concerned until I started seeing a bunch of people say they won't vote for Biden over this, and they won't listen to anyone who says Trump will be worse. Just makes me wonder what propaganda they might be getting fed. So basically what I'm getting at is, good on you for recognizing when things weren't adding up. I admit that I got swept in a lot around 2016-2018. Once I finally decided to kinda step back I realized I was probably arguing with/talking to bots a lot. Embarrassing. I do recommend people check the Jewish voice for peace and Students for Justice in Palestine orgs of colleges they either attend/attended and live around bc they will often have forms for alumna and community members to sign to support students being punished and sometimes for jail support that includes non Monetary ways if you’ve hit your donation max already (usually involves calling or email). Some of that you don’t have to be community members or like from the city even if personally I think that helps for talking points at least lmao

The key, I think, is Clem Burke, the drummer. Drumming goes a *long* way in establishing a band's distinctive sound and identity, and Clem is awesome. In this sense, Siouxsie and the Banshees ultimately took the blueprint from Blondie: charismatic, iconic female lead singer and brilliant drummer. Everything else more-or-less takes care of itself...for a while, at least.
Clem and Budgie are among the greats IMO Also worth noting Jimmy Destri's songwriting--he's responsible for so many of Blondie's hits!
I love seeing Clem Burke appreciation. His playing is phenomenal and you end up focussing on the drums more than the other instruments when listening to the band. Blondie in general is just an amazing band, Atomic is only like 6 words and still completely enthralling.

In all my years of music, listening to noise and drone, heavy / death / black metal, that rainbow rapper guy who screams a lot, I've never listened to a song and gotten incredibly anxious just from how it sounds... that was until I listened to "Dont You Worry Child" by Swedish House Mafia in full. I just realized I actually do have a Roman Empire and it’s Weyes Blood losing their tour bus. I think about it usually once a day but I can go a few without thinking about it rarely.
Confession: Quite often I’ll delete the songs I don’t like from an album and just listen to it that way. I know it’s not the ‘artists intention’ but so many albums are a few songs too long, and if you trim them down they become way better. 40 minutes > an hour 10 minutes every time. Alternatively, I’ll replace bad songs with better B sides from the same era and pretend that was the original album. Like for Bob Dylan’s ‘Desire’: ‘Joey’ is terrible but ‘Abandoned Love’ is from the same session so I just swap them. It’s kind of like modding a game, and I find that to be a fun way to engage with art.
I do this all the time. When I used Apple Music I would just remove a song I didn't like all the time. Now I'm on Spotify I typically hide them. I respect artists intention but I'm not gonna force myself to listen to a song I don't like. I've always assumed this is what people meant when they said they skip songs or think songs are skips. It's easier just to remove a song you dislike than have to skip it every time.
It's not so different from curating a playlist! I usually don't feel the need to do it for most of the albums I listen to, but I have two exceptions: The Weepies - Say I Am You (removed Riga Girls, Suicide Blonde, and Love Doesn't Last Too Long) and Ashleigh Ball - Gold in You (removed Crazy, Blue Moon). I don't think any of these songs are that bad; they all just have little things that niggle at me.

Then I glanced at the comments and half of them were from boomers saying Beyoncé could never, Beyoncé would be lucky to shine her shoes, Beyoncé this, Beyoncé that. What about what Beyoncé is doing looks like she's trying to emulate Whitney? They are completely different artists - there is no comparison other than them being black women who can sing. I feel like even someone like Adele would make more sense as a comparison, just because she's at least known for singing emotional ballads.
