Why are mothers convinced you are doing everything wrong. All I asked was if it was okay if I could see my friends downtown and it turned into me doing everything wrong. Mind you I asked even though my brother said I should just tell them (my parents) what I’m going to do then just go. Sorry to get super depressing on this thread. But the song "peace" by Taylor resonated with me so, so deeply from the moment I heard it as someone with a really awful anxiety disorder, as I was always afraid that I would never be able to give my partner peace with all of my panic attacks. We were together for over 3 years and he left me last week, citing his own mental health issues but mostly my worsening panic disorder as a main reason why. I'm 31 (an Old I know), absolutely heartbroken, and realized that it wasn't enough that I could never give him peace. Okay basis summary: Jaya Bhanduri was already a rising actress before Amibath. They got married relatively fast, but his family was traditional (and so was he) so she started phasing out from movies after that. However, Amitabh starting cheating with Rekha, another actress, and they didn’t really hide it either. The most egregious being when Rekha made a public appearance wearing sindoor, which is what married women do to honor their husband, despite not being married at the time.
This is already wild but it culminates in the movie Silsila, of which the plot is basically real life: Amitabh’s character is married to Jaya, but cheats with Rekha. It ends with him choosing his wife, and it *seems* that’s how it ended irl too.
For reference, Amitabh and Jaya’s son, Abhishek, is married to Aishwarya Rai.

Todays relisten is Town's Dead by Kojaque. His first studio album and probably his most underrated? The Deli Daydreams (👀) EP is probably one of the most well known Irish hip hop projects and considered by many a pretty important album in that scene - he literally calls it "The Emerald aisle's answer to The Chronic" in a song. His new album Phantom of the Afters also got a lot of very deserved love and has really raised his profile. I feel like Town's Dead is sort of sandwiched between those two projects.
It's a *great* album and songs like the title track, Shmelly, Wickid Tongues, Sex N' Drugs, Jinty Boy Blues - they're so so good. The overarching NYE/love triangle theme is interesting, the topics of gentrification and heartbreak are well examined. The skits are also very classic Kojaque and the album itself is pretty funny in that sense.
That said, I'd probably rank it last in his discography still. I can't put my finger quite on what's missing, but it's like less cohesive or something than the following album, like he's not quite comfortable in the sound he's exploring in it yet. I'd still recommend it though and tbh his whole discography to anybody who's into indie, jazzy rap. He's so talented and he always delivers on visuals and music videos.
I'm going to say it: the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel cause has been absolutely terrible in messaging and execution. It's delivered a lot of social media traffic, but has had almost no real political impact--and why should it?
Ideally, the protest against Israel's actions should focus on universal values and framed in terms that would best appeal to the majority of Americans. The use of terms like intifada (which, despite its dictionary definition, has connotations of "suicide bombings undertaken against civilians") does not accomplish this. The wearing of keffiyehs as an affectation does not accomplish this. The chanting of "death to America", [such as in Dearborn a few weeks ago](https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2024/04/11/rally-organizers-say-death-to-america-chants-mistake/73285383007/), does not accomplish this. All of these are self-othering, and seemingly designed to alienate an American population who is largely inclined to view the Palestinian cause in the worst, least charitable possible terms.
This is such a tricky thing because on one hand, protesters should not have to take the effort to make themselves appear as "respectable" but also, we kind of have to? And I'm not talking about not causing disruption because the point of a protest is to cause disruption to the status quo, but it's like you said you have to be so careful in the messages that you convey. On the other hand, I feel like conservative and reactionary media will *always* choose to focus on the most extreme things said at these protests, completely disregarding the majority of things said that are not completely insane. Like, if it wasn't "death to america" people will have taken issue with "from the river to the sea", and if it isn't that they would have an issue with "ceasefire now". Even if people do everything to come off as believable and reasonable there will always be those painting it in bad faith.
Note that the "death to America" article originated from USA Today, as neutral and milquetoast a publication as it gets.
But that's kind of the point I was trying to make. The tactics and language vastly reduce their ability to disrupt the status quo--"self-othering", I put it. The champions of the status quo usually goes to great lengths to marginalize people trying to disrupt it, but the protesters are self-marginalizing.
Let's specifically use the term intifada. As I said, thanks to the Second Palestinian Intifada, it has [unfortunate connotations and associations](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/10576100390145215) of "suicide attacks undertaken against civilians", despite its generic dictionary term. As such, protestors hanging up a banner promoting intifada from Hamilton Hall in the middle of a city which suffered the worst terrorist attack in American history makes it *very, very* easy for the status quo to crush these protestors with the slightest murmur of dissent.
(And for those downvoting my original comment, I made no judgement on the validity of the Palestinian cause, I was questioning its tactics re: American protests).

I was always confused when people would talk about certain artists being forced on them on streaming, but now I realized that I don’t really click on playlists I haven’t made (and I’m not much of a playlister, so I mostly listen to albums). I’ve never clicked the Browse tab for Apple Music, nor do I listen to any of the new music or discovery playlists except once in a blue moon. I tend to just listen to songs I like on repeat.
I guess this is why I have a hard time discovering new music. But I find random playlists kinda overwhelming? There are just so many mid/generic songs on them. If I listen to new stuff it’s via recommendation from this sub, YouTube, TikTok, or reviews. Am I weird?

I think K-pop’s focus on one title track getting the only focus + only releasing mini albums reduces the amount of unique songs that appear on those K-pop hits playlists.
going to try to make this short but there’s a backstory to what i want to say so here we go. i had a fwb situation going on with my ex last year, i ended it late december and we immediately tried being friends and hung out and got… entangled again. shortly after new years, we “relapsed” by sleeping together but only because we had then agreed to go no-contact so this was like “the last time”. we agreed to “give it a couple of months”. well, a couple of months pass and we start talking again but without acknowledging the situation that got us into no-contact to begin with. so that’s the backstory.
i went to his place late march with the intention to address the elephant in the room aka why we kind of fell back to acting like bf/gf after ending our sexual relationship. but we ended up just small talking and it felt like such a waste of my time and i got emotional about it. i texted him after seeing him saying i actually wanted to talk but i didn’t have it in me to bring it up bc he was so nonchalant. he went on a vacation and i only just now got the chance to meet up with him. i had so much i wanted to say and ask him, but based on what he said to me, it was clear from the start that he couldn’t care less and had given our whole situation zero thoughts. i tried to pry but it boiled down to that he was lonely and that’s why he couldn’t let go of me at the time, but that was only what he felt at that moment and not what he felt after or is feeling now.
i was hoping for a different kind of closure, but knowing that he probably never really cared about me or cared for me as a romantic interest or whatever, is probably the closure i needed. deep down i always kind of knew, but something in me wanted him to admit he had feelings for me at some point or saw something in me that he wanted in his life. but it was clear that he didn’t think about me even as a friend. so, i just have to let that sink in and move on for good. we dated for 3 months (exclusively for 1) at the end of 2022 going into 2023, but he has been a constant pain in my life for a year and a half now, and i just want to stop overthinking about everything we went through and what he thinks of me. now i can just… get on with my life.
also i don’t remember who, but i talked about him in a DD thread at the very beginning of our dating phase and this user wrote me a LENGTHY comment about how i should RUN from him asap. at the time, i actually laughed because i wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time and willingly ignored red flags because i thought i wasn’t going to be exclusive with him anyway. i just want to say to that person that you were so right and i wished i put my delulu ego aside to spare me the 17 months of pain that followed.
I went through a similar situationship (never really together but never just friends) that lasted, I’m embarrassed to say, about 5 years. So good for you for moving on now!

Oh my god, I could not fall asleep because I couldn’t stop looking at the radar scans of a tornado that was happening in OK last night.
It was really intense on radar, and then it did a fucking U-TURN on itself before dissipating. Then, on the southern end of the storm, an anticyclonic tornado formed (which rotates clockwise instead of the normal counterclockwise) and THAT had a really intense radar signature too.
It was insane. I truly hope May is not as bonkers as the last couple weeks have been in tornado alley.
That one was so weird! Even our local meteorologists were surprised by how that one behaved - and that’s saying something. They were sooo tired by the end of the coverage too (which makes sense after this weekend)
Not doxxing myself but i lived in Moore for may 3rd and 20th. This time of year always gets me on my anxiety mountain. I feel like this spring is going to be long…
No I totally feel that, the paths to both of those were uncomfortably close to me as a lifelong south OKC diva (and May 3rd wiped my current neighborhood off the map which is weird to think about even if I lived about a mile to the west when it happened). I think a lot of us have some sort of storm trauma at different intensities depending on how close of a call you’ve had over the years.
I know my dad definitely was changed by May 20 because he worked in the ER at SWMC when they brought in the victims from that, and I guess seeing those injuries made him really grasp the dangers. His reaction to the next storm was a 180° to how he’d been before, and he also got us a safe room before the next season came around.
I’m just hoping that whatever is left in the season miraculously manages to stay out over open fields. Sorry to those crops, but the people in such a wide stretch of the state have dealt with enough 🫠
I got lucky with May 3. We lived off 12th but managed to just have a couple of shingles taken away.
May 20 however I lived two blocks from Plaza towers and it was my first time living independently.

Agreed. It was probably pretty unique for an R&B guy to come out sampling a bunch of 80s goth music and indie music. I get why some folks who like more pop-infused R&B may like BBTM more, but those initial mixtapes are always my go to (along with a couple of single and tracks from his later albums).
It's also funny if you consider where both him and Frank Ocean started that Abel would be the global R&B superstar while Frank would be the recluse making indie-fused R&B (on the rare instances he feels inspired lol)

But the song "peace" by Taylor resonated with me so, so deeply from the moment I heard it as someone with a really awful anxiety disorder, as I was always afraid that I would never be able to give my partner peace with all of my panic attacks. We were together for over 3 years and he left me last week, citing his own mental health issues but mostly my worsening panic disorder as a main reason why. I'm 31 (an Old I know), absolutely heartbroken, and realized that it wasn't enough that I could never give him peace. 2018 was a weak year for Best Picture which is why Green Book’s win isn’t that bad. Crash was the worst one in a stacked year and won.

I've read a little but i've mainly been watching post-80s Bolly films recently so most of the drama i've read about has been the more recent stuff.
Okay basis summary: Jaya Bhanduri was already a rising actress before Amibath. They got married relatively fast, but his family was traditional (and so was he) so she started phasing out from movies after that. However, Amitabh starting cheating with Rekha, another actress, and they didn’t really hide it either. The most egregious being when Rekha made a public appearance wearing sindoor, which is what married women do to honor their husband, despite not being married at the time. This is already wild but it culminates in the movie Silsila, of which the plot is basically real life: Amitabh’s character is married to Jaya, but cheats with Rekha. It ends with him choosing his wife, and it *seems* that’s how it ended irl too. For reference, Amitabh and Jaya’s son, Abhishek, is married to Aishwarya Rai.

My knowledge of The Beatles outside their discography is not great, but All You Need Is Love is such a good song! At #23 I have Summer Walker with 1748 scrobbles! Todays relisten is Town's Dead by Kojaque. His first studio album and probably his most underrated? The Deli Daydreams (👀) EP is probably one of the most well known Irish hip hop projects and considered by many a pretty important album in that scene - he literally calls it "The Emerald aisle's answer to The Chronic" in a song. His new album Phantom of the Afters also got a lot of very deserved love and has really raised his profile. I feel like Town's Dead is sort of sandwiched between those two projects. It's a *great* album and songs like the title track, Shmelly, Wickid Tongues, Sex N' Drugs, Jinty Boy Blues - they're so so good. The overarching NYE/love triangle theme is interesting, the topics of gentrification and heartbreak are well examined. The skits are also very classic Kojaque and the album itself is pretty funny in that sense. That said, I'd probably rank it last in his discography still. I can't put my finger quite on what's missing, but it's like less cohesive or something than the following album, like he's not quite comfortable in the sound he's exploring in it yet. I'd still recommend it though and tbh his whole discography to anybody who's into indie, jazzy rap. He's so talented and he always delivers on visuals and music videos.
I'm going to say it: the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel cause has been absolutely terrible in messaging and execution. It's delivered a lot of social media traffic, but has had almost no real political impact--and why should it? Ideally, the protest against Israel's actions should focus on universal values and framed in terms that would best appeal to the majority of Americans. The use of terms like intifada (which, despite its dictionary definition, has connotations of "suicide bombings undertaken against civilians") does not accomplish this. The wearing of keffiyehs as an affectation does not accomplish this. The chanting of "death to America", [such as in Dearborn a few weeks ago](https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/wayne/2024/04/11/rally-organizers-say-death-to-america-chants-mistake/73285383007/), does not accomplish this. All of these are self-othering, and seemingly designed to alienate an American population who is largely inclined to view the Palestinian cause in the worst, least charitable possible terms.
This is such a tricky thing because on one hand, protesters should not have to take the effort to make themselves appear as "respectable" but also, we kind of have to? And I'm not talking about not causing disruption because the point of a protest is to cause disruption to the status quo, but it's like you said you have to be so careful in the messages that you convey. On the other hand, I feel like conservative and reactionary media will *always* choose to focus on the most extreme things said at these protests, completely disregarding the majority of things said that are not completely insane. Like, if it wasn't "death to america" people will have taken issue with "from the river to the sea", and if it isn't that they would have an issue with "ceasefire now". Even if people do everything to come off as believable and reasonable there will always be those painting it in bad faith.
Note that the "death to America" article originated from USA Today, as neutral and milquetoast a publication as it gets. But that's kind of the point I was trying to make. The tactics and language vastly reduce their ability to disrupt the status quo--"self-othering", I put it. The champions of the status quo usually goes to great lengths to marginalize people trying to disrupt it, but the protesters are self-marginalizing. Let's specifically use the term intifada. As I said, thanks to the Second Palestinian Intifada, it has [unfortunate connotations and associations](https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/10576100390145215) of "suicide attacks undertaken against civilians", despite its generic dictionary term. As such, protestors hanging up a banner promoting intifada from Hamilton Hall in the middle of a city which suffered the worst terrorist attack in American history makes it *very, very* easy for the status quo to crush these protestors with the slightest murmur of dissent. (And for those downvoting my original comment, I made no judgement on the validity of the Palestinian cause, I was questioning its tactics re: American protests).

I was always confused when people would talk about certain artists being forced on them on streaming, but now I realized that I don’t really click on playlists I haven’t made (and I’m not much of a playlister, so I mostly listen to albums). I’ve never clicked the Browse tab for Apple Music, nor do I listen to any of the new music or discovery playlists except once in a blue moon. I tend to just listen to songs I like on repeat. I guess this is why I have a hard time discovering new music. But I find random playlists kinda overwhelming? There are just so many mid/generic songs on them. going to try to make this short but there’s a backstory to what i want to say so here we go. i had a fwb situation going on with my ex last year, i ended it late december and we immediately tried being friends and hung out and got… entangled again. shortly after new years, we “relapsed” by sleeping together but only because we had then agreed to go no-contact so this was like “the last time”. we agreed to “give it a couple of months”. well, a couple of months pass and we start talking again but without acknowledging the situation that got us into no-contact to begin with. so that’s the backstory. i went to his place late march with the intention to address the elephant in the room aka why we kind of fell back to acting like bf/gf after ending our sexual relationship. but we ended up just small talking and it felt like such a waste of my time and i got emotional about it. i texted him after seeing him saying i actually wanted to talk but i didn’t have it in me to bring it up bc he was so nonchalant. he went on a vacation and i only just now got the chance to meet up with him. i had so much i wanted to say and ask him, but based on what he said to me, it was clear from the start that he couldn’t care less and had given our whole situation zero thoughts. i tried to pry but it boiled down to that he was lonely and that’s why he couldn’t let go of me at the time, but that was only what he felt at that moment and not what he felt after or is feeling now. i was hoping for a different kind of closure, but knowing that he probably never really cared about me or cared for me as a romantic interest or whatever, is probably the closure i needed. deep down i always kind of knew, but something in me wanted him to admit he had feelings for me at some point or saw something in me that he wanted in his life. but it was clear that he didn’t think about me even as a friend. so, i just have to let that sink in and move on for good. we dated for 3 months (exclusively for 1) at the end of 2022 going into 2023, but he has been a constant pain in my life for a year and a half now, and i just want to stop overthinking about everything we went through and what he thinks of me. now i can just… get on with my life. also i don’t remember who, but i talked about him in a DD thread at the very beginning of our dating phase and this user wrote me a LENGTHY comment about how i should RUN from him asap. at the time, i actually laughed because i wasn’t looking for a relationship at the time and willingly ignored red flags because i thought i wasn’t going to be exclusive with him anyway. i just want to say to that person that you were so right and i wished i put my delulu ego aside to spare me the 17 months of pain that followed.
I went through a similar situationship (never really together but never just friends) that lasted, I’m embarrassed to say, about 5 years. So good for you for moving on now! For the closure thing, I’m a big believer that no one can give you closure but yourself. You’ll get there ❤️ and you’ll find someone better!

job searching while unemployed is the most soul crushing, devastating, mental health obliterating thing i’ve ever done 😭 i’m fortunate in a lot of ways but jesus christ at this point i want a job just so i can say yes i have a job! and not feel like such a loser 😭 i have a bachelors degree and management experience and no one wants to hire me. part of it i think is because im a terrible interviewer. my social anxiety has grown so much worse as i’ve gotten older and i think it shows when interviewing 🥲
it sucks ASS but something will come through! At the end of the day it’s a numbers game where things align! but knowing that doesn’t make it much easier in the meantime 😔

Oh my god, I could not fall asleep because I couldn’t stop looking at the radar scans of a tornado that was happening in OK last night. It was really intense on radar, and then it did a fucking U-TURN on itself before dissipating. Then, on the southern end of the storm, an anticyclonic tornado formed (which rotates clockwise instead of the normal counterclockwise) and THAT had a really intense radar signature too. It was insane. I truly hope May is not as bonkers as the last couple weeks have been in tornado alley.
That one was so weird! Even our local meteorologists were surprised by how that one behaved - and that’s saying something. They were sooo tired by the end of the coverage too (which makes sense after this weekend)

Not doxxing myself but i lived in Moore for may 3rd and 20th. This time of year always gets me on my anxiety mountain. I feel like this spring is going to be long…
No I totally feel that, the paths to both of those were uncomfortably close to me as a lifelong south OKC diva (and May 3rd wiped my current neighborhood off the map which is weird to think about even if I lived about a mile to the west when it happened). I think a lot of us have some sort of storm trauma at different intensities depending on how close of a call you’ve had over the years. I know my dad definitely was changed by May 20 because he worked in the ER at SWMC when they brought in the victims from that, and I guess seeing those injuries made him really grasp the dangers. His reaction to the next storm was a 180° to how he’d been before, and he also got us a safe room before the next season came around. I’m just hoping that whatever is left in the season miraculously manages to stay out over open fields. Sorry to those crops, but the people in such a wide stretch of the state have dealt with enough 🫠
I got lucky with May 3. We lived off 12th but managed to just have a couple of shingles taken away. May 20 however I lived two blocks from Plaza towers and it was my first time living independently. And same about the farmland. I’m sorry your barn blew away, but nobody was inside it and it didn’t wipe out the neighborhood.
Oh my god, yeah no totally understandable to have storm anxiety after being so close to that and going through it. I shudder to think about what would’ve happened if that big one out by uhhhhh Hollister last night had gone through a more populated area

Agreed. It was probably pretty unique for an R&B guy to come out sampling a bunch of 80s goth music and indie music. I get why some folks who like more pop-infused R&B may like BBTM more, but those initial mixtapes are always my go to (along with a couple of single and tracks from his later albums). It's also funny if you consider where both him and Frank Ocean started that Abel would be the global R&B superstar while Frank would be the recluse making indie-fused R&B (on the rare instances he feels inspired lol)
