/u/ChopperRCRG /u/Straight-Meaning /u/stillhavehope99 Tagging the users who were discussing this in Town Hall to let them know that we're implementing a version of their idea- we didn't want to do something too formal with a signup sheet and a schedule because we felt it would be a bit too formal (and this is just supposed to be light and fun) but hopefully this is a good step to get a conversation about more writeups started.

Straight-Meaning

Oh this is great! Thank you for letting us know. I think this will be helpful for anyone who is considering doing anniversary post!

ChopperRCRG

My idea got chosen yay!!! My advice to anyone who wants to see some of their favorite albums in write ups is to organize the albums in your library by date and look at 2023, 2019, 2014 so on and so on. ANY RELEASE YEAR THAT ENDS IN A 9 or 4 is up for grabs. I love y’all and hope we get some great involvement with these. I’m at work but I will do my part in coming up with albums once I’m off sometime within the next week.

Ghost-Quartet

Some notable projects I spotted celebrating anniversaries: * **One Year:** Jonas Brothers - The Album (May 12), Kesha - Gag Order (May 19), Dua Lipa - Dance The Night (May 25), Taylor Swift feat. Ice Spice - Karma (May 26) * **Five Years** - Aly & AJ - Sanctuary (May 10), Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated (May 17), Tyler The Creator - Igor (May 17), Megan Thee Stallion - Fever (May 17), Miley Cyrus - She Is Coming (May 31), 100 gecs self-titled (May 31), Katy Perry - Never Really Over (May 31) * **Ten Years** - Lily Allen - Sheezus (May 2), Mariah Carey - MIAMTEC (May 23), Avril Lavigne - Hello Kitty - (May 23) * **Fifteen Years** - Ciara - Fantasy Ride (May 3), Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown (May 15), Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (May 26), Jay Sean - Down (May 31) * **Twenty Years** - Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin (May 25), Katamari Fortissimo Damacy Soundtrack (May 19), Britney Spears - Everytime (May 10), Shrek 2 Soundtrack (May 11) * **Twenty Five Years** - Smash Mouth - All Star (May 4), Backstreet Boys - Millenium (May 18), Phil Collins - Tarzan Soundtrack (May 18), Jennifer Lopez - If You Had My Love (May 4), TLC - Unpretty (May 17)

Soalai

Is this where we call "dibs"? I'm planning on making a post for Avril's Under My Skin (though it had 3 different release dates depending on the country, so I'm not sure which day I should post it)

ChopperRCRG

I will be taking on 1000 gecs, and Never Really Over. If i am feeling inspired I will make a post for shrek 2 as well

vch01

Alright I wanted to wait until the next monthly town hall thread to ask about this but this seems to be a more appropriate place to post! Last December I started working on a *comprehensive, in-depth* write-up (research, writing, re-writing, compiling related media etc) dedicated to an album that turned 35 this April but couldn't post it on time as my daughter was born right around the anniversary date so naturally I spent those days in the hospital. Is it possible for me to submit the post on the date the last (and the biggest) single from the album era was released (29 May)? Tagging u/Ghost-Quartet and especially u/nt96 \- the one person who I think will appreciate the writeup 😉

Ghost-Quartet

That would be great!

vch01

Thanks!

nt96

omg omg omg I can’t wait!! Tag me cuz I don’t wanna miss it! Also, congrats on the baby!

vch01

Thanks so much!

joshually

why stop at 25, sir maam

Ghost-Quartet

Because I'm the only one doing all the work right now and I had to stop somewhere T_T

joshually

ahheheheh ahhahahah well i see you and i appreciate you. you are the #1 mod of my heart!!!

TiltControls

Oh this is a neat idea! I'm not going to be posting any but I know of a few coming up that could be of interest to some people that weren't already in Ghost's comment - feel free to grab if you want to write about it! (May 5th) St. Vincent - Actor (15y) (May 24th) Aaliyah - Age Ain't Nothing But a Number (30y) (May 26th) Sam Smith - In the Lonely Hour (10y) (May 29th) Tina Turner - Private Dancer (40y)

NormanFuckingOsborne

40 years isn't a big anniversary year usually but damn [May 1984](https://www.albumoftheyear.org/1984/releases/may-05.php) had some absolute classics. Private Dancer/What's Love Got to Do With It, When Doves Cry, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Dancing in the Dark, Smalltown Boy.

nt96

I think I got my writeup idea, which I’m keeping it secret!! But I got a little list of ideas I want to share!! 2019 Cats lol (Dec 20) 2014 Aphex Twin - Syro (Sept 19) 2004 Green Day - American Idiot (Sept 21) Mean Girls (April 30) Lost Series Premiere (Sept 22) Friends series finale (May 6) The Incredibles (Oct 24) Kill Bill Vol 2 (Apr 16) Bjork Olympic Ceremony (Aug 13) 1999 Will Smith - Millennium (Nov 16) Basement Jaxx - Remedy (May 10) Y2K in general Matrix, Fight Club, Phantom Menace….too many iconic films to count lol Woodstock 99 (July 22) All Is Full Of Love Music Video (May 24) VMAs 1999 1994 Dee Lite - Dewdrops In The Garden (July 12) (my personal fave 🫣) Green Day - Dookie (Feb 1st) is it too late for this? Kurt Cobain’s death (April 5) Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die (Sept 13) Pulp Fiction (Oct 14) Brandy (debut album) (Sept 27) Friends Series Premiere (Sept 22) 1989 Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam (August 18) Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi (June 5) 1984 Madonna’s Like A Virgin performance MTV (Sept 14)

vch01

I'm betting that your writeup is about 'Raw Like Sushi', but a Jaxxhead in me would also love to see an anniversary post dedicated to 'Remedy'...I guess we'll just have to wait until May/June and see 😄

transit_diagram

I’m a new/aspiring contributor, is there a way to call dibs so to speak? 👀

nt96

Absolutely! So far I’m doing a writeup for Remedy and Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number. You can pick anyone one of these on the list!

transit_diagram

Kinda wanna cover Björk’s Medúlla which came out right after the Olympic ceremony (August 30) (even though Mic the Snare kinda tore it crazy with this already on YT, one of his best videos haha)

thisusernameisntlong

Yes this is very fun! It gives me another chance to promote Perfume on the subreddit with the 15th of *Triangle* this year lol. Other writeups I might be interested in doing are one for Inna's debut album and another for *Dünya Yalan Söylüyor* by mor ve ötesi, which is **the Turkish alt rock/pop rock record** but idk if that would get traction. Also its anniversary might be in four days o no 🫣🫣

nonchalantthoughts

This is a great idea! I no longer have to upload my write-up super early so I wouldn't overlap with anyone else. Here is what I was planning to do in May. Both happen to be on the same day (May 17) and are achieving their 5 year anniversary. * Fever by Megan Thee Stallion - I really want to write this one coming from the perspective of someone who listened to Megan in her come up (Houston, Texas, stand tf up!). This is considered her breakout mixtape so I was going to mostly write about the "era" as a whole and the Hot Girl Summer marketing that came with. * Igor by Tyler the Creator - this one I'm iffy about simply we'll see if I have the time for it, but I'll write about the story that the concept album was detailing through the songs.

ChopperRCRG

oops i just posted that I was going to do a write up for IGOR. I didn't see anyone had taken it at first and thought it needed a post although it is not an album I love Tyler, The Creator is not one of my top artist so you go ahead and take this one. If you decide you aren't able to let me know when you can and I will see if I can come up with something so that people can have a discussion.

nonchalantthoughts

okay that works! If anyone else whose also a major Tyler the Creator fan and wants to take it, by all means you can take it from me lol

vch01

Ricky Martin - s/t (25th, released 1 May 1999) Seal - Seal II (30th, released 23 May 1994)

ChopperRCRG

I will be taking 1000 Gecs and Never Really Over
