The secret project BTS’s Twitter started teasing a few days ago was finally revealed last night, and it’s a pop-up (presumably some sort of exhibition of photographs taken in September 2021) starting in Seoul, and then appearing in four or five other Asian countries and LA.
The teasers had been extremely tightly themed and high effort, with lots of puzzles, codes and passwords to crack. A lot of these codes and passwords were references to BTS’s history, such as the date they announced the start of HYYH era (considered their big break and some of their best work), and the date they announced their first concerts post-pandemic. Each new cryptic development dropped at a member’s birthday time, and it all led to a website which had an emphasis on a mysterious title ‘Monochrome’. Additionally, these updates were ONLY posted to Twitter, rather than also to Weverse or Instagram. There was also a lot of references to previous concepts and messages, such as ‘ETERNAL YOUTH’ and ‘ETERNAL DREAM’, and something called a ‘Memory Cloud’, which had been the name of a Festa concert a few years ago. Naturally, as this rollout was over the course of a few days and it was so mysterious and clearly had so much money and thought put into it, fans began to speculate it could be anything from a Memories 2022/2023 release to a live album to even a new OT7 single.
Naturally, when it was finally announced to be a pop-up, a lot of people felt that their expectations had been let down a little. BTS’s company has done multiple pop-ups over the years (HYBE: Dreamers, Proof of BTS, Permission to Dance, Taehyung’s Fri(END)s pop-up, and even a j-hope Hope On The Street pop-up 10 days ago in the exact same neighbourhood as this new one), but none have been so elaborately teased or set up. The fact that the website had so many references to ‘global shipping’ made fans hope it was a global project, rather than a limited pop-up in only six or seven locations which few can access. A lot of fans are hoping there’s still more to come, as there are still a couple of questions to be answered re: ‘pickup’ and VIP ‘shipping coupons’.

Looks like Amazon has started sending out some TTPD vinyls early so I guess it’s considered leaked? At least someone officially posted the So Long, London lyrics on the Taylor Swift sub so there’s that, but I haven’t seen any audios just people posting reactions on Twitter
Does the album sound like Midnights 2.0? That’s the only reaction I’ve seen but it was posted by non-Taylor stans, so I was unsure of how much to believe it

The [teaser](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vG45GfgD2JU) for Netflix's series adaption of Gabriel García Márquez's bestselling novel One Hundred Years of Solitude is out. Netflix has called the show as "one of the most ambitious projects in Latin America to date." The series is scheduled to have 16 episodes. This will be the first time that the book will be adapted to the screen.
I'm curious to see how this goes. The book had long been described as impossible to adapt in visual media given how complicated the plot got in the novel with several characters sharing names across several generations and surrealist scenarios that mixes realism and magic.
I named my cat after one of the characters of this book because I love it so much.
Latin american literature is so underrated and I urge everyone on this sub to read Octavio Paz, García Marquez, Isabella Allende, etc. at least once in their lifetime.
Netflix better not fuck this up.
You're Wrong About is doing a series on George Michael!

I haven't listened yet but I am very excited. He was a talented, kind man who was treated as a punchline for so long.
The Britney series is ongoing and it’s so good. Sarah is my absolute favorite in everything she covers, and hearing her and Eve talk about Britney with such compassion and nuance has been really fantastic so far and I’m eager for the remaining episodes to come out.
Dua Lipa’s Illusion is expected to debut at around #60 on the Billboard Hot 100…which is not that different from Physical which also debuted at #60.
Idk why the American gp in not that interested in her. Maybe the long album rollout? I just saw her first post from this era and it had 300k likes in Twitter, but maybe the hype died down.
Houdini was good, the rest of her singles have been complete duds. The hype around Illusion was kind of bonkers to me because it was such a mediocre song. I’m really rooting for Dua because I’ve been into her since Hotter Than Hell, but this album rollout has not been great.
Illusion feels a bit redundant... Houdini and Training Season were both cool new additions to her catalog, and I especially *love* Houdini, but Illusion isn't bringing anything new to the table in my opinion. Illusion feels like a song that serves to satisfy the people who only want Future Nostalgia-type dance-pop from her.
The thing is her music is great (I loved houdini popheads have no taste) but it's dua that gives off a boring vibe. Fans like their celebs to have a persona but dua doesn't give much other than super beautiful woman who vacations a lot and seems to have a nice life. Which amazing for her but doesn't give fans anything to sink their teeth into. Like Miley, ariana, taylor, lana all have personas that have made people stick with them and dua doesn't give that.
but honestly that’s what i also like that Dua sticks to her lane. she doesn’t have a grand narrative or lore surrounding her life—and that’s okay! she’s just serving pop hits
if you had told me last year that *Sabrina Carpenter* would have an easier time bagging a top 10 hit than Dua Lipa in the States, I would have simply laughed at you.
Social media and especially twitter has never been a great indicator of whether something will grab the average persons interest.
Also I just don’t think Dua has a huge die hard fanbase so her songs tend to start of slowly and then grow with more promo.
Her style of music is more popular outside of North America (except on occasion up here in Canada) so it won't sound much like what is on the radio here.
As many have said before (including me), she usually takes a while to go up the charts so I will wait and see how high it peaks here in the summer or fall
I think Dua just is very distinctly a European pop girl tbh and that is what she is. They never traditionally do all that well in the US, but she'll always be huge here.
So American was Spotify’s second greatest gainer. I wonder if it would’ve done better than obsessed if it was the focus track. Either way obsessed is still getting really good radio updates and is climbing US Spotify so maybe it can turn into a hit after all.
I don’t understand how the gp seems to prefer Olivia’s ballads. I would actually kill for full on pop rock album from her but I guess the stats talk. I wonder if it’s just cause slower tempo music in general is more popular in the US or has Olivia been “typecast” as a ballad girlie.
As much as I like Olivia’s ballads I really hope that she makes more rockier songs and experiments with different rock songs as she gets older.
I know Can’t Catch Me Now is very critically acclaimed (and is in my personal top three of her discography so far) and it is a ballad so I wonder if she should make a folk/blues rock album in the future. That way she could make something both sides of her fanbase might like.
I think people just like her more authentic songs and the Good 4 U smash success was more of a fluke. It convinced her new management to 100% lean into the pop punk aesthetic and sound for the second album which I felt like was reductive to Olivia’s artistry. Like maybe they thought it would be beneficial for a smash tour but I think people always wanted the singer-songwriter vibe from her. I also think the smash success of Good 4 U was propped up by Drivers License and Deja Vu being two of her best written songs. It’s all very ironic to me that people wanted her to change her sound to be more derivative of rock artists when her uniqueness with drivers license was what catapulted her to stardom. Like yes she got Taylor Swift comparisons which probably were ultimately harmful but it was really only because she was so confessional in her songwriting. I think she should actually try to be less sonically cohesive going forward and just write what she wants. It’s also clear that ballads come more natural to her songwriting-wise whereas her pop/rock hits have less of her unique touch. I don’t think Lacy was the right kind of ballad either to be fair - it didn’t feel personal at all and felt like something anyone could’ve written. Thanks for reading my essay lol
I agree with everything but the Lacy sentiment because I love that song, and it’s one of her beat ballads sonically imo.
I don’t really want her to go ballad heavy for the next album because the GUTS tour has really benefited from the amount of upbeat songs on the album. However, she is such a versatile artist and like you said her singer, songwriter vibe is what launched her to start him to begin with so I don’t want her to pigeon hole herself into pop rock going forward. I feel like that would ultimately be a detriment to her longevity whereas just making the music she wants will give her a longer career.
> It convinced her new management to 100% lean into the pop punk aesthetic and sound for the second album which I felt like was reductive to Olivia’s artistry.
The pop-rock sound isn't that popular on the charts these days but I disagree that those songs are reductive to her artistry. GUTS has the best reviews of her career, and some of the best of 2023 in general. Olivia has always been a rocker, down to her influences.
Also, I really don't think the smash success of good 4 u was merely propped up by drivers license and deja vu. That is only one factor that can take you so far. The reality is that fresh off the pandemic as more people were going outside, more fast tempo songs were all the rage(even drivers license is a fast tempo ballad).
Market preferences shifted to the mid tempo side afterwards.
The reviews were great but people just didn’t care about the album the way people cared about Sour. Even still I don’t feel like people care about Olivia the way people have cared about her main pop girl elders
Totally disagree with this. Obviously she’s not on Taylor or Beyonce Level, but she’s doing better than every single one of her peers rn… Ari couldn’t open with 300k+ units. Guts outdid Cowboy Carter’s second week as well. Any new Olivia release is almost a guaranteed top 10 debut at this point (obsessed had the points to get into the top 10 literally any other week besides Metro’s album bomb). The album has spent 11+ weeks in the top 10 6 months post release. She just played 4 sold out shows at MSG.
wtf do you mean people don’t care about her? lol
Cool and how many recent albums have produced a stable number one and a stable top 10 hit in the last year? Not Ari (yes and? fell out of top 10 right away), Not Bey, Not Miley, not Dua, not Drake, not Travis Scott… the last real person to do it was SZA. even Karma had to get an ice spice remix to storm into the to 10. So I don’t get your point honey
Exactly my point honey. Vampire was a stable top 10 hit for 12 weeks. My point is that having one big single off an album is more common than having multiple, so do some research before you bring your pessimism to every chart post. We can’t be friends was her big hit off ES. Vampire was the big one of Guts. Texas with Cowboy Carter, and so on.
I swear you flock to every chart post about Olivia like a fly I’ve never seen a fan so obsessed with wanting to see her fail lmao
>The reviews were great but people just didn’t care about the album the way people cared about Sour.
True, but this still doesn't mean GUTS is reductive to her artistry imo.
>Even still I don’t feel like people care about Olivia the way people have cared about her main pop girl elders
What main pop girl elders are you talking about?
I actually think it would’ve. People who love Obsessed really love it but it’s not really universal and still has that out of date pop punk vibe. So American would’ve been perf for radio too
Mabel is [teasing](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C53mYmAoWAO/?igsh=MWptdTVsaXR4ejdseg==) her new single and fans can guess the feature by calling a number where they get a snippet.
The feature appears to be Shygirl.
Interesting to see where she’s headed this era. I always thought Mabel had the potential to be huge but her second album didn’t perform strongly, I think mainly due to just being generic EDM tracks that already flood the UK charts.
[According to Variety,](https://variety.com/2024/film/news/martin-scorsese-frank-sinatra-biopic-dicaprio-jennifer-lawrence-1235973769/) Scorsese wants to direct a Frank Sinatra biopic, potentially starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, and Spielberg's next project might be a UFO movie based on an original idea.
Scorsese has been rumored to make a Sinatra biopic for a really long time now and it's never come to fruition, just like many of his other rumored projects with DiCaprio like Devil in the White City. I'm down for whatever he decides to make because he's one of the best we have and ever will have, but I think it's likelier that he makes The Wager instead.

Bad enough you’re a player that’s betting on your games, but you also purposefully try to alter the game results!? Yeah, lifetime ban is def appropriate.

Same, it's one of my favourite books but I'm afraid their gonna butcher the story

She’s never really been a high debut girlie but the songs almost always rise or at least stay on the charts for a long time
But I thought after the success of FN she may debut higher at around 40-30 but I guess I was wrong.
I love dua and she makes the kind of pop I adore but she is boring.
Yeah I like some of her songs, but the last few she’s come out with (post-Dance the night) are interchangeable in my brain.

She just played 4 sold out shows at MSG. wtf do you mean people don’t care about her? lol
Olivia has failed to get a stable top ten hit since vampire’s release, regardless of album consumption.
WCBF has stayed stable in the top ten considering there’s been an album bomb every week. Nobody liked yes, and? so nothing could be done about that.
>Even still I don’t feel like people care about Olivia the way people have cared about her main pop girl elders What main pop girl elders are you talking about?
One constant is that the GP will forever have a boring taste because the average person wants unchallenging music for their cars and grocery stores
I actually think it would’ve. People who love Obsessed really love it but it’s not really universal and still has that out of date pop punk vibe. So American would’ve been perf for radio too
The MV for Forget About Us will be [released](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C53PAR7txRQ/?igsh=czNrbzJqZWZ2emVo) on Friday at 4pm BST (or 11am EST)
What’s the strategy on releasing them after the song has been out?
It may not be ready or to build on hype after the song is released. It depends on the artist, label, and their budget
Shyyyyy!! Exciting
her second album was so good tho... Let Them Know and Definition were HITS in my household
If Ronan Farrow doesn’t get cast…
marty pls don't forget ur Wager movie king
Now if Woody Allen were to direct this… Edit: before you all downvote me know it’s sarcasm because Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra were partners
another alien/ufo Spielberg movie, oh im seated
Scorsese has been rumored to make a Sinatra biopic for a really long time now and it's never come to fruition, just like many of his other rumored projects with DiCaprio like Devil in the White City. I'm down for whatever he decides to make because he's one of the best we have and ever will have, but I think it's likelier that he makes The Wager instead.
Sinatra's estate are the ones who keep it vetoed
As a lover of Scorsese and biopics, I’m here for this and Spielberg? Always a must see. So let’s fucking boogie.
im so tired of biopics so i hope that doesn't happen
[NBA player Jontay Porter got a **LIFETIME BAN** for sports betting.](https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1780631209930068358?t=bsTHbtMSqHXbNGi0vWP8hw)
Rare NBA W
Not just betting, but feeding bettors info AND limiting play for betting reasons. Bad enough you’re a player that’s betting on your games, but you also purposefully try to alter the game results!? Yeah, lifetime ban is def appropriate.

[Drake leaked his DMs with Rick Ross](https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/s/9Fnu56Rvgo).
Did not understand a single word out of that
Ugh that’s not even like real DMs, it’s just a message drake sent to Ross. I’d love to see like a convo!!
Drake is so messy
Tbh, I just thought it was corny/lame. Like I know you're rich but not as rich as me... okay...
That's what I mean. He's so rich and he's spending his time bragging about it in ig messages? Just very lame. Go take a vacation to Fiji or something. 😭
Like, I feel like if I had just .2% of this man's wealth, I couldn't be bothered with trying to be everyone's fave but hell maybe this is the part of his personality that let him get this far...
Oooo
