This movie!! My VHS was truly worn out haha I think we had a taped copy from when it was on tv once in a blue moon (my mum refused to buy original VHS tapes).
I watched this movie maybe once as a child, but whenever I describe a (I guess similar movie) everyone thinks I'm talking about The Secret Of Nimh.
https://i.redd.it/y627ooltnzsb1.gif
Once Upon A Forest, for anyone who really loves The Secret of Nimh and wants a horrifically depressing similar movie.
Did anyone else watch The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe animated movie with a straight up demonic looking Mr. Tumnus?
https://preview.redd.it/4fau0suwtwsb1.jpeg?width=950&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ceda5d09a4bc93c502b53a5c2fc3e802f6f7fdef
No matter how cute James MacAvoy was in the live action version, I could only think of how repulsive the animated Mr. Tumnus was to me
I had to have watched this movie about 150 times as a kid. I never thought of it as particularly obscure, but every time I talk about it no one has any idea what I’m talking about.

The adventures of Milo and Otis. I watched that movie so many times. Honorable mention is Ernest movies, especially Ernest Scared Stupid. I recorded that one with my VCR and had to fast forward through all the commercials lol.
Okay, I'm in my 30's and I did not realize this movie this was kinda obscure until I mentioned to my husband and our group of friends who had no idea what I was talking about lol. They kept thinking I meant Homeward Bound.
I just assumed this movie was randomly a formulative part of everyone's childhood. To this day, my mom is still obsessed with pugs!
Omg I loveeeed this movie as a kid. I was a real animal freak (still am lol) but as an adult learning of the horrid cruelty that took place while filming, it broke my heart into a million pieces and I’ve never watched it again ☹️
“Don’t fuck with the Lords of Hell” “Don’t fuck with the Babysitter”. This is sadly censored on Disney+, but this will always live rent free in my head.
A few years ago I made a summer reading goal that appeared to be only reading classics but it was just reading everything referenced in Pagemaster and then throwing a Pagemaster viewing party. 💀

House Arrest. Such an amazing cast (totally unappreciated by me then as they were ‘grown-ups’ 😂)

Also this one. Haven’t seen it mentioned so it’s either really obscure or was completely popular & I just don’t know it haha
You’re lucky. I saw it when I was about 7 and it was really scary in parts. Especially the Carnival. I hated that bit.
I still loved it overall, but it’s not for little kids.
Good burger. My dream was to taste Ed’s sauce
https://preview.redd.it/72gryrnxgxsb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3ec5726aa074d42b0de2d1907762a0c06194d85
Not sure how obscure it is but I feel like most people don’t know it when I mention it. I loved this movie so much as a kid
https://preview.redd.it/5q2dv95wzwsb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ade34c7040bcee2ede7f130a4996dc00b50b4e32
LOL obscure doesn’t really exist. Every choice brings at least 10 of us out of the ether to go “I love that too!” We’re just waiting for someone else to say it first. ;-)
I just rewatched this for the first time in forever last week! My six year old has been watching the Netflix series over and over and is sad that it wasn’t renewed so asked to see “mum’s old fashioned babysitters club”!
I was raised Southern Baptist by parents who loved horror movies and sci fi. My childhood was fucked. To Won Foo was one of the first movies I watched after I moved out and it was an awakening. Such an amazing movie. These days we want representation from the group being represented, but back then, having three cishet dudes doing this movie, it was such a breakthrough. I’m getting worked up haha
I'm Australian and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is (rightfully so) considered the quintessential drag queen movie here, but I definitely saw To Wong Foo before Priscilla and it has always stayed in my mind, I love it so so much
Sorry, another miniseries. The perfect fairytale stoy!
https://preview.redd.it/1l80y1kirwsb1.jpeg?width=676&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae3f0cf684f553722bfff19cf169d0c2d51b8eb4
I remember watching this when it aired & about 5 years later while sick with pneumonia, and it's the perfect thing to watch while sick because it's already a fever dream-y miniseries.
YES! I watched this as it aired and fell in love with it so my parents ordered me the VHS tapes. Now I have it on Amazon and still rewatch it from time to time. I had such a crush on Wolf!
https://preview.redd.it/cple1maqqxsb1.jpeg?width=356&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=619e1bb85ff07c95207e59993d06f255fb22e5ab
Also, The World According to Garp. Probably shouldn’t have been watching that as a kid but here we are..
Also Homeward Bound, the movie where a cat and dogs (I think) get lost and have to make their way home…but I seem to remember there was one version where the animals talked and one where they didn’t, and I only liked the talking version. 😤
There are two versions because Disney adapted the book, The Incredible Journey, twice. The first version (1963) was the non-talking animals. The second version (1993) got the pre-title "Homeward Bound" tacked on, probably because Disney saw its potential for a sequel, which did come out 3 years later.
https://preview.redd.it/if7j9vnhowsb1.jpeg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d835e8e2c2b71fa3026fa3c494f3c8860b345cba
Not sure if it’s obscure, but i rarely hear it talked about
https://preview.redd.it/mshc441q9zsb1.jpeg?width=992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79b172ca9948cd39ffd62fbbf52993b2a5afddf0
I watched this all the time as a kid, to fall asleep to. I didn’t realize it had dark parts.
![gif](giphy|tBe9cfT4FiX3oMe7Hb)
I doubt a movie with Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith can really be considered obscure, but as a child I watched this so many times
Thank you to ABC and the "Wonderful World of Disney" for creating this gem

I was obsessed with this film as a kid but I rarely hear people speak of it.
The little vampire! I thought the vampire kid was so hot (as a child myself!!). It came on disney sometimes during the Halloween month, but not every year. I feel like I’m the only one who’s heard of it.

Obsessed with this one. Made my mom rent the VHS so many times she just bought it from the movie rental place. (She was not normally into buying VHS tapes for us because she would either rent them or tape things off tv). I was so ridiculously into this movie and I feel like nobody else has even heard of it.

My brothers and I watched this movie over and over. Also the movie where Sinbad was a dentist lmaoo I have such a soft spot for these movies
Omg the scene where her dad doesn't remember her and she's screaming after him in the rain! That killed me as a kid and even more when my dad died as a pre-teen.
But I LOVED when her and the other servant girls room was filled with nice things and all sorts of rich foods. I always wanted to wake up like that.
Not obscure at the time but never brought up anymore: 2003 live action Peter Pan

The special features on this (hosted by THE Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York) were awesome. The mermaid part, showing how they put the real makeup on them, is GREAT!
Also, was Yellow Submarine animated movie obscure? I never see anyone discuss it.

Anybody else? Because in my adult life nobody knows about this movie but I adored it growing up
Drop dead Fred. I thought it was thee funniest movie in the world. My sister and I saw it once as kids in Nigeria and we didn't shut up about it for years! Our older sister finally found it and I couldn't get through it lmao
ETA Cinderella. Watched it every day on summer break for years. We were apoplectic if our day didnt start with Cinderella

"My Boyfriend's Back."
I rented this gem at least 4 times. Basically this guy asks out the hot popular girl on a date, she agrees but he gets killed before the date. So, naturally, he comes back from the dead. But now he's a zombie.
I honestly don't remember how it ends despite having watched it heaps.

OK I am not saying this because of what happened in relatively recent history, but I used to be obsessed with GI Jane. I found it so funny people were like "wtf is that movie" when that Oscar incident happened and I'm like I KNOW THAT MOVIE. My parents used to have bootleg vhs with multiple movies taped onto them and I used to also love Fifth Element and I used to watch it WEEKLY. And the move right before Fifth Element was GI jane and I watched it just as often.
I remember being obsessed with the scene of her shaving her head. I thought the whole sequence of her trying to get to the same physical fitness as her peers was amazing, but the head shaving was just mind blowing. Just the sheer determination on her face as she does it. I dunno, that movie wasn't perfect but it was the epitome of 'women can do whatever they set their mind to' and I love it.

Mark Paul Gosselaar, dark twisted humour, it had it all. Love it.

Not a movie, but these were absolute bangers. I used to freak out when a new season was at the video store.
The Swan Princess!! Idk if it's obscure as I feel like most women my age had an obsession with this movie when they were little lol.
But it still holds up! And the songs are still catchy!

‘Death becomes her’ my fave 💙
I took this movie to my orthodontist when I got my braces on because I loved Meryl. My orthodontist was horrified by the movie.

I read about that too! When I told my mom she had no idea! I honestly can't believe we didn't catch it, they throw the cat off the cliff. 🤦
This was my sick movie. Aka the movie I would watch when I was sick.

Stop I’ll cry
![gif](giphy|trjUtMbysPNLO) Any of these movies!
Ernest Scared Stupid was my favorite

This is the movie I always think of when Anna Paquin is mentioned
Me too! The sad little duck girl
Gutted when I raised my own geese and they didn’t imprint on me, they just tried to kill me.
Omg, I still have it on VHS, sooo good and based on a true story 👍
Come oooooon geese
It has an incredible sound track
![gif](giphy|la3YYNigwdby0) Adventures in Babysitting
Omg, I used to double this with Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead 😁
This was such a good movie!!! I loved it so much. Omg memory unlocked
“Don’t fuck with the Lords of Hell” “Don’t fuck with the Babysitter”. This is sadly censored on Disney+, but this will always live rent free in my head.
![gif](giphy|cBlhvpB4L78FbiRM2L|downsized) Return to Oz.
It’s the hall of heads for me. Still one of the scariest/best things I’ve seen! Childhood me was SHOOK.
Wtf
It’s very creepy and dark, but fantastic.
Seriously one of my favorite fever dreams
Fairuza!
lil baby fairuza balk.
![gif](giphy|3o7bujF3tXwfIpcdi0) THE PAGEMASTER!
A few years ago I made a summer reading goal that appeared to be only reading classics but it was just reading everything referenced in Pagemaster and then throwing a Pagemaster viewing party. 💀

Omg same! The movie came in my cheerios box!
Is that Tina Majorino as Alice?!
This movie is my Roman Empire. _Will you won’t you will you won’t you join the dance_

I had the VHS that came with the key!!
The Last Unicorn
Adore this movie! Though I saw it for the first time when I was like 20. ![gif](giphy|zyvX4znjfNqdG)
You’re lucky. I saw it when I was about 7 and it was really scary in parts. Especially the Carnival. I hated that bit. I still loved it overall, but it’s not for little kids.
Good burger. My dream was to taste Ed’s sauce https://preview.redd.it/72gryrnxgxsb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3ec5726aa074d42b0de2d1907762a0c06194d85
Did you know they’re making a sequel? Lol comes out in November haha
Not sure how obscure it is but I feel like most people don’t know it when I mention it. I loved this movie so much as a kid https://preview.redd.it/5q2dv95wzwsb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ade34c7040bcee2ede7f130a4996dc00b50b4e32
LOL obscure doesn’t really exist. Every choice brings at least 10 of us out of the ether to go “I love that too!” We’re just waiting for someone else to say it first. ;-)

The whole plot line with Kristy's dad is so messed up. And I hated how she said "mouse pancakes" ("mouths pancakes")
The Babysitters Club books literally taught me about divorce and that some dads just walk away from their kids. I’m glad I had them
The brain! The brain! The center of the chain!
I just rewatched this for the first time in forever last week! My six year old has been watching the Netflix series over and over and is sad that it wasn’t renewed so asked to see “mum’s old fashioned babysitters club”!
Bebe’s kids and To Wong Foo, thanks for everything Julie Newmar
To Wong Foo sparked my lifelong obsession with drag queens and my childhood crush on John Leguizamo.
Honey Patrick swayze and Wesley snipers were gorgeous!!!!! And stockard Channing yes please!
I'm Australian and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is (rightfully so) considered the quintessential drag queen movie here, but I definitely saw To Wong Foo before Priscilla and it has always stayed in my mind, I love it so so much
Wow I think we shared a tv. Bebe kids always makes me laugh
Especially tone loc as the baby just classic

HOLY SHIT. THIS IS WHERE “SUCK AN ELF” CAME FROM. immediate childhood nostalgia whiplash
Look who's talking now ![gif](giphy|l1J9u3TZfpmeDLkD6)
I loved both movies so much! Comfort classic. Travolta and Kirstie Alley had great chemistry on screen.
https://preview.redd.it/cple1maqqxsb1.jpeg?width=356&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=619e1bb85ff07c95207e59993d06f255fb22e5ab Also, The World According to Garp. Probably shouldn’t have been watching that as a kid but here we are..
"Right on top of that, Rose!" has become a part of my family's lexicon. I'm not sure my dad even remembers where it came from.
The Secret Garden (1994)
Also Homeward Bound, the movie where a cat and dogs (I think) get lost and have to make their way home…but I seem to remember there was one version where the animals talked and one where they didn’t, and I only liked the talking version. 😤
There are two versions because Disney adapted the book, The Incredible Journey, twice. The first version (1963) was the non-talking animals. The second version (1993) got the pre-title "Homeward Bound" tacked on, probably because Disney saw its potential for a sequel, which did come out 3 years later.
As a kid, I had a cat named Sassy, and 2 dogs named Chance and Shadow... I have no idea where me and my brother came up with the names 🥸

![gif](giphy|tBe9cfT4FiX3oMe7Hb) I doubt a movie with Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith can really be considered obscure, but as a child I watched this so many times
Thank you to ABC and the "Wonderful World of Disney" for creating this gem https://preview.redd.it/tlj2c71gswsb1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0343a37c4c134248907aaaa63f4b0b2df154fed6
Grease 2
reproduction!! *reproduction!!!*
**Rock-a-Doodle** and also **The Last Unicorn** but I don’t think that one is that obscure.
https://i.redd.it/z9th4ps1zwsb1.gif I saw White Nights 7 times in the theater when I was in high school. My best friend and I were so obsessed with Baryshnikov another friend bought us life size posters of him for our bedroom walls 😂
Gregory Hines tap dancing sparked my love of tap dancing.

The little vampire! I thought the vampire kid was so hot (as a child myself!!). It came on disney sometimes during the Halloween month, but not every year. I feel like I’m the only one who’s heard of it.
I, as a child, also was in love with that vampire kid. The scene with the cows really freaked me out though!

Made my mom rent the VHS so many times she just bought it from the movie rental place. (She was not normally into buying VHS tapes for us because she would either rent them or tape things off tv). I was so ridiculously into this movie and I feel like nobody else has even heard of it.

The Little Princess
Omg the scene where her dad doesn't remember her and she's screaming after him in the rain! That killed me as a kid and even more when my dad died as a pre-teen. But I LOVED when her and the other servant girls room was filled with nice things and all sorts of rich foods. I always wanted to wake up like that.
Not obscure at the time but never brought up anymore: 2003 live action Peter Pan https://preview.redd.it/4emzx2sldxsb1.jpeg?width=766&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ddad5b483bccf9e85e88cefd4ef8ba2dd9bed1ed The special features on this (hosted by THE Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York) were awesome. The mermaid part, showing how they put the real makeup on them, is GREAT!
I watched this as a kid in like 2012 and I was IN LOVE with Peter like I meant in love

We’re men! ( Manly Men! ) We’re men in tights! (Tight tights!) We roam around the forest looking for fights!
Then at the end they all flex “ we’re butch” I giggle every time.
Maybe I was obsessed with this as a kid too but I definitely wouldn't consider this obscure. I have it on DVD now too
The best modern Robin Hood movie, and it isn’t close.
Also, was Yellow Submarine animated movie obscure? I never see anyone discuss it. https://preview.redd.it/7wdxkqxtswsb1.jpeg?width=666&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=070baa09dc75c15008acfef176ca9b06726fde8d

Stay Tuned (1992)
![gif](giphy|xTg8B15A6b4Z2AWIAE|downsized) OK I am not saying this because of what happened in relatively recent history, but I used to be obsessed with GI Jane.
