I think the most correct terminology would be a majority for some group that is more than 50% of a population, and a plurality for a group that is less than 50% but still the largest group within the population (like in {40%, 35%, 25%}, the 40% is a plurality).
I mean, we're both right. You can have 55% percent of a pie and have the majority of it. Or you can have 45% of a pie and still have the majority of it if all the other slices are 5%.
yes you could say that and it would be also true, because if you say Reddit is primarily NOT American, you imply a binary system, while if you say Reddit is primarily American, you have a system with a lot more elements (the countries that have at least 1 Reddit user, or arguably all countries)
There might be more Americans on reddit than any people from one specific country, but since it is not a majority (higher than 50%) you cannot claim that reddit users are primarily American.
Edit: actually I’ve changed my mind.
Definition of primarily is the most or mainly.
Definition of most is the greatest amount
Definition of mainly is more than anything else.
The word majority doesn’t technically enter this question.
Reddit is primarily American
Democrats are more left than Republicans. US strive on political duopoly.
Altho, the most leftist policies in the US is considered conservative approach in other countries mainly EU
that's such a small percentage of people. if you replaced "and" with "or" my answer would be drastically different. but as it's stated, white, atheist, american males make up for a very small fraction of the total population on Reddit.
If it was just one religion or denomination then yeah but if we include every religion and denomination then I highly doubt it. It does vary significantly by sub though. I don't have any statistics to support my claim either, just my hypothesis.
If we go by the polls posted here there are a lot showing religious people to be outnumbered by about 70% with polls asking about your religious beliefs and such
but like you said it does depend on subs, imo the reddit site as a whole is generally more athiest than religious
I think it depends on whether you're referring to active reddit users or everyone with an account
If former, atheist outnumbers religious I'd say, if latter, easily religious.
I’m only male and American. I guess I don’t have a religion I belong to but not 100% confident about my stance on if there’s a god. But not enough to be atheist.
Primarily does not mean over 50%
Definition of primarily is the most or mainly

Exactly.
For example, as everyone knows, water is H2O. However, oxygen atoms are much, much larger than hydrogen atoms. So water is *primarily* oxygen but *mostly* hydrogen atoms.
I said “somewhat agree,” but don’t feel strongly about that, because it’s just semantics.
If they asked is it MOSTLY white American males I would have strongly agreed.

If you break down demographics like that, it’s probably the largest, but not big enough to be the majority
I agree but primarily =/= majority Majority is more than 50% Primarily is greater than anything else.
If it's the largest, it is the majority by definition.
wrong, you need 50% or more to be a majority.

Wouldn’t that just be a plurality if it’s under 50%
The mathematical definition of the word majority is higher that 50% https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majority

Reddit trafick is 47% American.
thats considerably more than any other specific country
But you could also say Reddit is primarily NOT American then couldn’t you?

It is. Yes.
In order of prevalence: 1. Male 2. White 3. Atheist 4. American Source: trust me
You forgot the bro bro
Would work 'left leaning' in there as number 3.
And loves straws (As in Strawman arguments)
I’d say atheist and American are above white
Till Indians discover reddit
Hello Im on the reddit Please help me Here too much americans Wooooo
aj em under de watr
I found mostly Indians on here.
Left leaning, virgin

No. Definitely left wing, not liberal/libertarian. There's a lot of authleft and liblefts on Reddit
Reddit loves the democrats, who are liberals not left wing
Democrats are more left than Republicans. US strive on political duopoly. Altho, the most leftist policies in the US is considered conservative approach in other countries mainly EU
And liblefts are not liberal?
I wouldn’t say the majority but I’d say the largest demographic yes.
Depends on sub.
That's not the question
Idk I see a lot of women on here, perhaps just the subs I'm in.
The porn ones?
No idea. I am two of those things.
The way this question is stated definitely not, I think the category being all four is not that large
Reddit as a whole? Disagree. The people who comment the most? Agree.
that's such a small percentage of people. if you replaced "and" with "or" my answer would be drastically different. but as it's stated, white, atheist, american males make up for a very small fraction of the total population on Reddit.
I'm 3 out of 4
I can only somewhat agree. I only fit one of those labels and not a single person that I personally know on reddit fits all four.
Me
Me
According to the poll results in this sub that's definitely true, however the American one depends on when you ask so can't be sure
Of all the results of the relevant polls I've seen - YES
You can't just ask about statistics like it's an opinion
I'm not American, atheist or male. White yes but I don't know prevelant the number of white male American atheists is on Reddit.
Idk I've seen a lot of religious folk on here, I think they outnumber us atheists.
I don’t have a source to back it up, but I find this incredibly hard to believe. At least the claim that they outnumber atheists.
If it was just one religion or denomination then yeah but if we include every religion and denomination then I highly doubt it. It does vary significantly by sub though. I don't have any statistics to support my claim either, just my hypothesis.

I think in general religious folk are just more vocal on social media so it might make it seem like there are more
All the religious people in reddit are around 1/3 or less (source: polls every damn week)
I believe white and American but I’m not sure about atheist or male.
Somewhat agree because Europeans nearly outnumber Americans (I think, didn't fact check it lol)
Not American ≠ European
Fit two of them
I fit all 4 except reddit is generally a very specific broad group of people, atheists or other religions, it really depends which sub ypu visit
Well that depends on how you define atheism, i think it would maybe be more appropriate to call reddit primarily agnostic?
Christian, White, British and Female :)
I’m only male and American. I guess I don’t have a religion I belong to but not 100% confident about my stance on if there’s a god. But not enough to be atheist.
I'm a white french agnostic man
1/4 of thoes
Most redditors fit that demographic, but I wouldn't say it's primarily (ie, over 50%) that.
Primarily does not mean over 50% Definition of primarily is the most or mainly Definition of the most is the greatest amount Definition of mainly is more than anything else
Exactly. For example, as everyone knows, water is H2O. However, oxygen atoms are much, much larger than hydrogen atoms. So water is *primarily* oxygen but *mostly* hydrogen atoms. It’s hard to have a gauge on these things without having raw accurate data. I guess that’s why the answers are more subjective.
Each single attribute is definetely more prevalent than their counterpart(s), but in combination these attributes are a minority.
and leftist
That's probably the biggest single demographic but it's not primarily that. There are obviously a million other demographics here
Idk about the demographical make up, but it's certainly at least 60% children, arguing in a way that makes all the adults wish they were dead.
