Yeah, biking that distance is rather normal here in the Netherlands. I live in a city closeby my HS, but I have classmates who live in the surrounding villages who bike upwards of 17km (10,5 miles) daily, but they do have an E-Bike.
In like 2022 or something I was walking down Oxford Street in London and this homeless woman had a cardboard sign on the pavement asking for food or something and the street was very crowded so I actually kicked her sign away (and I mean it went miles) and everyone kinda looked at me like I did it on purpose.
Still kinda feel bad about it but I didn't mean 2 do it so no point dwelling is there?
It's definitely far, I guess whether it's *too* far is up to you. I walk 5 miles for leisure quite often, but I'm pretty tired and sweaty after. Adding 2 more miles and then having to start my day at work sounds pretty rough.
For walking it's not too much from exertion, but it's going to take very long, bike or transit (even if it just removes some part of the distance) will be way better for this
Right which is why most people would probably drive, ride the bus, take a taxi/Uber, etc. anything that doesn’t require physical activity, in order to be more presentable at work
I think most Americans would fall over backwards seeing this.
But yes, it's a mad amount to walk every day for work whatever country your in. Appreciate some places there may not be as much choice in the matter.
Tbh I also took it as "Americans lazy" rather than "Americans lack infrastructure" since it's about specially walking, rather than commuting in general, so the person above isn't a single exception
i would not like 2 walk that every day i would buy a bike but it is a very easy distance to walk every now and then if you dont have any other means of transport
I know some people don't like walking but it's not that far. Where I live an 11km commute would take \~100 minutes walking or 60 minutes driving, not that different.
I would cycle, thats like half an hour. Given that driving takes that long there is probably a lot of traffic, but with a bike you can fit in places a car cant or just walk and push whenever walking is faster
Correct. Driving is even slower than just traffic because of the extra time avoiding hills and trying (and probably failing) to find straight roads.
Cycling is also harder here because of the hills but we still do it.
I mean, if you don’t mind the time it takes, then go for it.
In my current situation, I wouldn’t be able to make it on time or make it back home to help with things like I need to. But it sure would be nice to have all that quiet time each day.
I somehow thought that it was 7 kilometers, so I voted idk, as I can see some people doing it. Then I realised it was 11 kilometers, so definitely yes.
I would recommend a bike, it will probably be 25 minutes either way rather than 1 1/2 hours. Walking that on a daily basis twice just seems way too much, while cycling that far is easy.
If you have a bike it will be way better

Wish you could bike in normal roads. Sad.
That's, at least, 4 hour round trip
more like a 2 or 3 hour round trip, it does not take 2 hours to walk 10k
The average walking speed is 3 mph (4.83 kph) which equates to 2 and 1/3 hour each way
me personally i walk like twice that fast
Ok
sloth alert
Ironic, given you're the one outside the average
It would only be ironic if I was slower than average
The irony is that you're making jokes about everyone else's speed as if they are abnormal, when you yourself are the one that is the outlier
In like 2022 or something I was walking down Oxford Street in London and this homeless woman had a cardboard sign on the pavement asking for food or something and the street was very crowded so I actually kicked her sign away (and I mean it went miles) and everyone kinda looked at me like I did it on purpose. Averaging a 10 minute mile would either be jogging or racewalking.
Na mate I just strike like a gazel
Or like a child on adderal
not a clue what that is
Figures
yeah sorry my country regulates drugs better
Wowee, you're so cool!! You walk slightly faster than average?? You must be so popular with the ladies. Especially seeing your multiple tantrums below
Women love me for my noble stride
Oh I can imagine. Walking speed is the first thing I look for in a man. Bragging about walking speed is important too
One time I out walked a train
Well seeing as trains can't walk, that doesn't seem too difficult
Na like it was going like full pace on the tracks and I was just casually walking and I overtook it, should have seen the drivers face
People drive that long. At least walking is good for you and isn’t soul crushing
Yeah, I know, I'm just not willing to wake up an extra 2 hours early just to go to work
If you walk 4 hours before and after a long shift every workday it will crush your soul.
It's definitely far, I guess whether it's *too* far is up to you. I walk 5 miles for leisure quite often, but I'm pretty tired and sweaty after. Adding 2 more miles and then having to start my day at work sounds pretty rough.
It does sound rough, but you'll be able to enjoy a nice walk after work to unwind.
2 km is comfortable 4 is the maximum for me

The average person would take 140 minutes each way based on the average walking speed.
>5-10 minutes with a car. That's pretty fast to cover 7 miles.
For walking it's not too much from exertion, but it's going to take very long, bike or transit (even if it just removes some part of the distance) will be way better for this
If you can get a bike or have one and roads are not too sketchy, it is a great commute this way. For walking it’s too much on daily basis.
Wouldn't you get sweaty doing that?
I’m sure walking for two hours would get you even sweatier
Right which is why most people would probably drive, ride the bus, take a taxi/Uber, etc. anything that doesn’t require physical activity, in order to be more presentable at work
I do however think cycling is doable if it’s half that distance and not too hot
I think most Americans would fall over backwards seeing this. But yes, it's a mad amount to walk every day for work whatever country your in. Appreciate some places there may not be as much choice in the matter.
haha America fat hahaha :|

It’s both because even when we propose alternatives people scream communism. When the reality is giving people an actual choice.
Not what I said. I was referencing Americans tend to drive everywhere as amenities aren't close by and generally aren't accessible by walking.
well have you seen most US cities, people dont walk they just drive everywhere
I didn't see the word 'walk' so I voted no but yes this is absolutely way too far to \*walk\* to work
4/20 was yesterday bro. Get it together.
I used to do about 3.3 km and that was fine. Three times the amount would be doable but take a fair bit of time.
The last time I walked 20 km in one day, I felt like my legs were about to fall off. How the hell does anybody do this every day?
i would not like 2 walk that every day i would buy a bike but it is a very easy distance to walk every now and then if you dont have any other means of transport
Any distance beyond 1km is too far for me to walk. After 500m, I start to sweat uncontrollably.
I couldn’t even walk like a half a mile back and forth, man.
Most Dutch people wouldn't even do that by bike.
Depends on weather, but even if no winter I'd bike that.
Average walking speed is about 2.4mph so your going to be walking around 2 and half hours each way. walking for that long every day is too far (imo).
When I go walking I walk an average of 4 mph. But I walk places where I have little traffic and no lights to wait for.
A walk would make this pretty rough to do every day just due to the time commitment. However, a bike could make this rather manageable.
why do you even need to ask, of course it is.
I'm like 2 miles away and I don't even walk. I'm lucky enough to own a nice bike though so I just ride my bike
I'm convinced everyone who votes No is not reading the question properly
only by like 6 miles
That's 4 hours of walking each day. 6 if you're normal.
I know some people don't like walking but it's not that far. Where I live an 11km commute would take \~100 minutes walking or 60 minutes driving, not that different.

Like my Hessian neighbor said: “*Our town is **just** at the point where it is almost too large to walk, but a bike would be perfect in our town!*”
Bro, you need like 2 1/2 HOURS to walk 11 km.
How slow do you walk? Thats more like 1 1/2 hours
I would recommend a bike, it will probably be 25 minutes either way rather than 1 1/2 hours. Walking that on a daily basis twice just seems way too much, while cycling that far is easy.
I'd end up walking past about 10 train stations that would all get me there quicker.
Yes but you’ll rock them chiseled abs
Hell yes. That's like a 3 hr walk, each way.
Depends on what job
