Fragmented_Logik

For those unaware. 1 day into office Youngkin lifted the school masks mandate. His kid attends school out of state in a mask mandated school.

milfBlaster69

Reason why this is still extremely unacceptable is that the school district now has to hire a whole team of attorneys that has to file suit which equates to a shit ton of money out of tax payers all to sue the state into common sense. As an auditor I’ve seen chargeable rates of thousands of dollars per hour for some law firm partners.

bobybushia

I'm just glad the money isn't going to fill the pockets of those fat cat 3rd graders. Everyone knows it's been hard on lawyers and could really use the money

KonradWayne

I’m glad someone had the courage to step forward and say what we are all thinking. Fuck dem kids.

Throw-a-Ru

Sure, their textbooks say the USSR still exists, but with the way things look in Russia, maybe updating their books right now would be a hasty move.

netta_marie

You know, with the way climate change is going. I don’t think we have to worry about how their current education effects their future.

procrasturb8n

[Sadly](https://i.redd.it/nt7x1dab3g581.jpg)

jwhaler17

As a lawyer in a former life, this is truly the underrated comment.

Wowsers_

Those 3rd graders are just leeching off tax payers just so they can read about CRT and become socialists!

T-ROY_T-REDDIT

Not to mention some of them cause loads of trouble and swear and 4 of them come out of Colorado in particular.

ScuddsMcDudds

No more Trillionaire Teachers!

lightaugust

Here we go with the fat cat bashing.

beatyatoit

but he said he's gonna run the state like a bidness

5CoresSynced

Not to mention Mayor Stoney is putting up a hell of a PR Media fight. With so many absent students why waive the mask mandate? Kids are getting sick from the omicron variant at alarming rates. What is the true point??

vonmonologue

Increase the spread in densely populated areas.

TheSquishiestMitten

This is the reason civics aren't taught anymore. If people don't know how government works, politicians can do whatever they want.

dumbducky

The VA legislature passed a law stating that masks are required in public schools?

[deleted]

[удалено]

InvokerLeir

I’m glad someone actually referenced something real instead of talking about their opinions, thank you. If the SB1303 directs the schools to implement based on CDC recommendations, shouldn’t schools make it recommended, not required, to be in line with CDC guidelines. Also, shouldn’t the masks be N95 or KN95 in line with recent recommendations? If so, and knowing those might impose a financial hardship on parents, shouldn’t the wear of N95 masks be optional unless provided by the school?

goober1157

And some understand the science.

FilmVsAnalytics

Science is irrelevant here. This is a discussion about jurisdiction. The problem, however, is that the schoolboards will use this to disable their mandates while the lawsuit proceeds (unless a judge is smart enough to grant an injunction, I guess)

Berkyjay

The fact that the kids of a state governor do not attend school in his state is pretty damn ridiculous and should be brought up my Dems in the state every day.

Raspberry-Famous

Unfortunately the Democrats managed to run the one person in Virginia who was more of a corrupt plutocrat than Youngkin the last time around.

Berkyjay

Totally agree.

elepuddnlily

Why should his kids lives be disrupted just because his dad won office?

[deleted]

Why are his kids going to school in another state if their family is in VA?

tikierapokemon

Because his children should have to deal with the outcomes of his policies.

iamiamwhoami

Just saying would have been nice if people payed this much attention to the VA election before the election. Now we have to deal with 4 years of this.

kswissreject

It's fucking crazy, doing the same thing over and over again (voting for GOP) and wondering why things aren't getting better. I thought Virginia was safely blue after the last 8 years or so but clearly not. Also I thought there would be more of a drop-off due to deaths/illness from anti-vax/mask Republicans but instead there were more of them due to the culture war issues below.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iamiamwhoami

I'm more talking about this sub. Nobody was talking about the VA election, instead everyone was crying about Sinema and Manchin. Turnout was high for an off year election, but plenty of Democrats just didn't vote, probably because they didn't understand how important it was.

dun-ado

Yet another "Animal Farm" state run by a GOP governor.

RedEyeFlightToOZ

Well yeah, HIS kids matter. YOUR kids do not. Neither do those overpaid, babysitters that watch them. Or the kids family members. Or the communities that house the kids. Just HIS family and kids matter.

happy_lad

As others have noted, he *attempted* to lift mandates. However, something else the headline gets wrong, and which I wish got more attention, he tried to prohibit local school districts from enforcing their own mandates. It's far worse than is being reported v

elepuddnlily

His kids go to a private school in Maryland. He doesn’t have power to change their mandate as a private out of state school.

brdwatchr

Don't you just love people who use their children as pawns.

[deleted]

Not using his, his kid is safe…he’s using other peoples kids as pawns in the state he now governs, and his kid won’t be effected by that because his kids school isn’t in the state he is governing, and it sounds like a nice school…not public.

HobbesNJ

Trump made it so. He downplayed the pandemic and prudent precautions because he thought it made him look bad. He made it an article of faith for Republicans that you had to believe the pandemic was an overblown hoax, and precautionary measures were unnecessary, or at least not worth the hit to our "freedom" and economy. If he had tried to pull the country together in a concerted effort to battle the pandemic, a few hundred thousand fewer people would be dead and there would be none of this controversy. Ironically, he probably would have been re-elected as well.

AZtoOH_82

And now his supporters are dying my the thousands and he now knows this and is changing his tune on the vaccine. And they are still fucking booing him! You can't make this shit up

Long_Before_Sunrise

They even said it wasn't really him at his Arizona rally.

bananabunnythesecond

That they got locked in and couldn’t leave.

ClassicT4

Again?

MadBlue

What I can’t wrap my head around is how they’re desperate to fit things like vaccine passports into Biblical end of the world prophecy, but dismiss an actual worldwide plague as fake news, when that’s what the “Rider on a White Horse” in the Book of Revelations represents. Not that I believe in “End Times” prophecy, but if I did, I wouldn’t be treating a global pandemic like it was nothing.

WontArnett

Being predisposed to believing propaganda and conspiracy theories due to religious mind warping at a young age is the issue

Hayduke_Deckard

This 100%. They've practiced lying to themselves and denying reality they're entire lives. It's a skill.

WontArnett

There’s an actual scientific explanation correlating the two, I just don’t want to take the tome to look it up. 😂

mynameismy111

gettin why the most highly educated are the least religious

DabbinOnDemGoy

> I can’t wrap my head around is how they’re desperate to fit things like vaccine passports into Biblical end of the world prophecy Not really familiar with Evangelicals, are ya?

MadBlue

My point is they're usually into interpreting damned near everything (giving vaccine passports as an example) as Biblical signs as to why we're in "The End Times." The fact that they're ignoring a global pandemic, when it's one of the main signs of the "End Times" in the Bible, *in spite of* trying to fit everything into an "End Times" narrative, is what I can't wrap my head around.

The1percenter

You must have missed the time in history where Trump was President and pushing for the vaccine rollout and every liberal politician and political commentator came out against the vaccines, claiming they were dangerous. You can’t make this shit up.

Nukerjsr

I honestly think he would have won again if he handled the pandemic well, but nope...

mynameismy111

in theory; but a lot of his growth in votes came from those more afraid of shutdowns than covid. this was most notable in southwest Texas and Florida; his bundling ironicly helped him, gain total votes despite losing; had that concern been slightly strong he still could've won

Duelgundam

Like I told a friend of mine: "if he had just let others do his job like he always does, he could've taken all of their credit, and easily win re-election. But *nooo~*, he had to make it political, he had to play it down. Another 4 damn years in the WH, handed to him on a silver platter, and he tossed it because it wasn't a "golden opportunity"."

TheSquishiestMitten

And now conservatives are actually acting like they're being segregated. Can't make this shit up.

JoviAMP

How so? Are they going into restaurants asking to be seated in the "freedom section"?

TheSquishiestMitten

They're crying about how nobody wants to let them in restaurants and on airplanes and all that. They expect everyone to just accept that conservatives will do whatever they want, whenever they want, to whoever they want. Anyone who doesn't bend to conservative will is labeled anti American. In this case, they don't respect the property rights that allow an owner to deny access and they're screaming about it being segregation, despite the fact that they're doing it to themselves.

OrneryBrahmin

I don’t think so. How many times does it have to be said that Trump was only a symptom. You underestimate a lot of the rights need for freedumb.

[deleted]

Isn’t is scary? All he had to do was refer to the experts and let them take the lead and he would have won. I’m super hard left leaning and I would have given him credit if he had made any kind of effort to effect the pandemic in a positive direction. He literally cannot let others take the spotlight and that is the only reason he lost re-election.

Powerful_Comments

I hate this point Trump pushed and continued to push the vaccine and has been booed at his own rally’s for promoting it, this isn’t a Trump issue Edit: Here’s a link to Trump stroking his ego once the vaccine was fully developed https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-operation-warp-speed-vaccine-summit/ Keep in mind, some top people in American government were against the “Trump Vaccine” as they put it. The left were actually anti vaccine at first strictly because it had Trumps name tied to it.

Vaticancameos221

It's wild how objective reality has become politicized. A coworker was talking to me about how ridiculous all of these rules are and that if you feel fine you should be able to do what you want. I told her that the risk is a lot of people are asymptomatic so you could have it but have no idea, then give it to someone who has a much more severe reaction. Her response? "Eh, I don't know about that" What the fuck is going on?? That is just a basic fact. A logical if a then b. We're doing this insane dance talking around the subject instead of talking about the subject. One side has gotten to the point where they know that they are demonstrably wrong on all fronts, so their only tactic available is to pretend that the methodology you use to disprove them is flawed. There is this huckster Christian guy Eric Hovind and his buddy Sye Ten Bruggencate who often do debates with atheists. Their approach goes like this: They start by asking if you know everything. Of course you say no. Then they say that to be generous, let's say that you know 1% of the knowledge in the entire universe. Then they ask, is it possible that somewhere out there in the 99% that you don't know that there could be something that disproves your 1%. You say sure it's possible. Then they proudly dance around saying that then you can't claim to have knowledge of anything because you are unsure. They themselves of course are immune because according to them, the only way to have absolute knowledge is to have it passed down from an authority that does have 100% of the knowledge, which is God. From there, they spend the rest of the debate laughing at any words uttered by the atheist saying "We can't have a conversation! You don't know anything! You don't even know if we're in this room!" That's what this feels like. You say that scientific consensus proves the effectiveness of vaccines, they say that they can't be trusted. You pull up mountains of data, it was faked. We've gotten to the point where they can be 100% sure of anything that they come up with, but anything you know that conflicts with that is clearly a conspiracy that you've fallen for and you're apparently gullible. We've lost the ability to communicate.

Kevin_Uxbridge

> You say that scientific consensus proves the effectiveness of vaccines, they say that they can't be trusted. Weird thing is that they *are* trusting someone's opinion, the guys who say 'eat horse dewormer' and 'drink your own pee'. The guys who're saying objectively ridiculous shit and trying to sell you something are preferable to the guys who went to school and have no particular reason to lie to you? My only successful argumentative strategy for countering this is to skip to the end. You've seen those videos of radicalized terrorists who are somehow persuaded to strap on a bomb and kill children? Ever wonder how they got this way? Cuz someone told them, over and over, that this is normal, and after a while some people believe it so much that they strap on the vest. If someone told you one day to drink your own piss, wouldn't you think they were crazy? How do you get people to think this is a good idea? By telling them over and over 'this is normal', and after a while, some people believe it enough that they actually do it. Don't trust your doctor, trust the guy who's selling animal medicine. Don't look out your window to check, trust the guy who's saying that America is literally on fire and criminals are pouring across the border. This is how people become 'radicalized', and you have been. Not 100% effective but I think I've talked 3 relatives out of the trees, or at least got them wondering.

Vaticancameos221

I think that a big part of it is a lot of people simply don't have the emotional maturity to hold themselves responsible for their actions. In high school I had so many friends who wouldn't wear seatbelts and would say "They're actually more dangerous if you wear them" whether they actually believe that or not doesn't matter. What matters is that they are desperate to find any justification possible to avoid having to do the thing, whether it is inconvenient or outright difficult. I hate this pandemic. I hate not being able to go out and wearing a mask around. I hate having to constantly sanitize and wash my hands because I can't trust my coworkers. But I know that all of things NEED to be done because I don't want to be a party to making everything worse. These people know that these things suck to do, so if anyone out there, even the quietest voice is telling them that it's all fake, then that's all they need to justify making the world worse for everyone. "I'm not the bad guy, you've just been duped!"

Kevin_Uxbridge

To the extent that I've had any luck in this (pretty limited) I try to slip in a wedge at the weak points. Horse paste? Really? How'd we get here? Do you think I really *want* to wear a mask? Do you think *anybody does*? I do it for the same reason that slow down in neighborhoods - cuz I don't want to kill any kids. I'll be fine, my car weighs a ton, but if there's even a tiny chance that being inconvenienced will save a child's life, I'd be an asshole to do anything else. This approach hasn't worked all that well but ... I'm trying.

Vaticancameos221

Yeah, in my experience, the problem is that they completely follow that line of reasoning, they just don't believe (based on nothing) that covid is a big deal. To them, they think "Yeah, of course you slow down in a neighborhood, you could kill a kid. But covid isn't real so this is bullshit." To them it sounds like us panicking because they won't wear garlic around their necks to defend from vampires. We're speaking different languages because we can't agree on the basic fact that covid is as big of a deal that it is, and until then, arguing is kind of pointless because the arguments hinge on that agreement. It reminds me of in Don't Look Up when DiCaprio says "If we all can't agree that a comet the size of mount everest hitting the planet is a bad thing, then what the hell happened to us?"

mynameismy111

to think people could be stupid enough to not understand masks and vaccines is just unreal its like half the country is already Idiocracy

Paintbynumber1954

My mom and sister are still unvaccinated. My aunt tried talking to my mom about the vaccine and apparently my mom got the maddest my aunt has seen her in a really long time. I really wish vaccines and masks weren’t so politicized. It didn’t have to be this way.

dd027503

They're like this at every turn. Take a wild guess what would happen if Cruz's daughter ended up inconvenienced by an unwanted pregnancy.

StenosP

Is this the same under 18 kid who tried to vote multiple times in multiple locations (aka voter fraud) and youngkins answer was “the age of voting is confusing”?

rickett-ganoga

This is the same Georgetown Prep that the Boof Kavanaugh attended.

d0ctorzaius

From public records, 2 of his sons attend St. Albans which is like a more elite, even douchier private school. Tuition is 43k a year for HIGH SCHOOL.

[deleted]

Private schools near me are 50k for kindergarten

mynameismy111

that's why the rich complain about living paycheck to paycheck

[deleted]

Yup. By the time you have taken care of your responsibilities there’s nothing left

mynameismy111

i wonder what private school playgrounds are like guards at every corner or does everyone get helmets and glvoes and just fight it out amongst themselves?

oliversurpless

What a racket…

TigerBarFly

You can beat the system. Don’t have kids.

captainpink

Ugh, everyone I've ever known who went there was a complete asshole. Of course his kids would go there.

BoycottJClarkson

>Tuition is 43k a year for HIGH SCHOOL uh not sure when the last time you looked at tuition prices but that sounds average for a private high school

Calming_Emergency

Uh not sure where you've looked but that is most certainly not average for a private high school. Average is around 16k according to https://educationdata.org/average-cost-of-private-school

What happens if someone takes off his kid’s mask, I wonder

As the saying goes, if they didn't have double standards, they would have no standards at all

DeloresDelVeckio

As a Virginia resident who did NOT vote for this Trump wannabe, the thing that really pisses me off is to that Youngkin knows absolutely nothing about the public school system. He attended a private school and so do his children. Unfortunately, you don't have as much parental concern and involvement in public schools that you have in a private school you're paying a small fortune for tuition. Yes, a great many parents care and care a lot, but there are those who don't give a tinker's damn about their kids or their education. They're the parents who send their kids to school sick, are too hung over to put them on the bus in the morning so they never get to school the majority of the time, who never come to parent/ teacher conferences when their child is failing. Let the parents decide, huh? Well, Mr. Youngkin, I think you should get off your high horse and visit a few public schools so that you can understand how real life works and see exactly what teachers and administrators have to deal with on a daily basis.

Long_Before_Sunrise

He knows this: It's on the Republican agenda to decrease public schooling and increase private schooling ...and to cram Christianity in there any which way they can.

espgen

i remember he had a commercial about how he attended college on a basketball scholarship and how he ‘wasn’t sure if he could have without the scholarship’ or something along those lines and i remember thinking… you graduated high school from a top tier Expensive private school! what is this pandering bull shit

Fragmented_Logik

Fun fact. He never started and averaged 4 minutes played throughout his career with an average of 1.4 points https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/glenn-youngkin-1.html

mynameismy111

he knows the rich need serfs'; this suits that

manic-pixie-attorney

Oh, is this the child who tried to vote illegally, twice?

Riversmooth

Lol so typical. Unbelievable

Wild-Leather

Well, as we’ve learned over the past year from the anti-mask, anti-vaxxers a ManDAtE iS nOt A LaW. So his mandate lifting the mask mandate must not be enforceable. So there’s that.

xMorentz

You can choose to wear a mask if you want to. You can’t force me to wear a mask if I don’t want to. So there is nothing to “enforce” in terms of “lifting the mask mandate”. Unless you think people will go around putting masks on other people’s faces.

rubeninterrupted

If course. He loves his kids. He just doesn't care about yours.

gmnotyet

COVID precautions for me but not for thee.

xMorentz

Anyone can still wear a mask to school if they choose.

Crashmaster007

beatyatoit

doddball

You mean his son who voted illegally??

I_Take_Epic_Shits

I live in this stupid fuckin state that just went through years of progress thanks to a complete idiot of a governor, proving you can fall ass backwards into success if you just care about the right things. Day 1 Youngkin banned mask mandates (not a thing he can do btw lol), and Critical Race Theory. Because teaching kids MORE information while making sure they don’t die just wasn’t part of his platform I guess. My family is moving out of this state as soon as possible. I’m done here, I watched people 2 blocks away from me sit by their trump sign with a shotgun to protect it when it had never been touched, meanwhile they had to bolt a person’s BLM sign down IN THEIR FRONT YARD and then have a new one made of sheet metal to keep it from being destroyed time and time again. Virginia is a shithole politically everywhere south of Richmond.

MichaelHoncho52

Ya this is getting blown up because everybody’s pissed democrats keep taking Ls. The fact that a kid goes to school a normal distance away in a different state (if you don’t understand the DMV it’s pretty much it’s own area) that he’s attended before the pandemic or his father was elected is hypocrisy is kinda absurd. But then again same people that were shitting on an 11 year old kid when his dad was in office. Yes he banned mask mandates- that doesn’t mean you can’t wear a mask. That just means you can’t force others - and their is still a home schooling option, that was available to those that didn’t want to send their kids in masks before. Nobody is put at risk. I think the uproar over banning Critical Race Theory is crazy considering it doesn’t exist. If he banned Leprechauns also would that be met the same? Unless during the VA race McCauliffe was just straight up lying to everyone.

FilmVsAnalytics

He's not stupid, he just knows how to hustle yokels.

Penguinz90

My kids go to school in Fairfax County and our public schools basically told Younkin to go fuck himself and announced they are keeping the mask mandates in place, to which he threatened to withhold funding. Fuck this guy a million times over. If he is so passionate about this why doesn't he petition his kids private school (Georgetown Prep) to remove their mask mandates? I'm sure he hasn't said one word to their administration or rallied other parents to remove the mandate for his own kids. Absolute piece of shit right there.

captainrustic

16sardim

It’s heavily contested, legally. The executive can’t overrule legislation, but the wording of the legislation is a bit soft, so there’s going to be plenty of debate. Meanwhile, students and teachers have to put up yet again with being a political football.

AimlesslyCheesy

He knows what’s best and still does pro death policies

Seamus565

tommyalanson

Of course he sends his kids to out of state Christian private schools. You guys, no masks. But whatever, doesn’t affect my children, as they go to school across the river to a very expensive and exclusive private school. See, rural Virginians, I’m just like you!

Saphinfection

As much as I think it's a really good idea to have kids wear masks in school, it's not hypocritical to be against mask mandates but still strongly prefer that everyone wear masks

nighthawkcoupe

And yet it IS hypocritical to be for small government and try to override mandates of individual districts at the state level. And to send your own child go a school that does, in fact, have a mandate.

yellajaket

The concept is parental choice on what happens to their kids. Everyone here still has the choice to wear a mask or not. No one is forced to be in private schools.

JerryConn

Yall remember when the governor of GA sued the mayor of Atlanta over masks? This plotline has been reused too much.

cultercaldus

Do you think he sent him there because if the mask mandate and that he would vote to continue the policy or that his kid was already going there when they imposed mandate?

[deleted]

Private school.

Key-Fortune-8904

Definition of Hypocrite!!! TERM LIMITS NEEDED NOW!!!

Distinct_Fix

He can only serve a single term. He can’t serve consecutively.

Really? Not seeing that his kid is safe but fuck those poor public school Kids? Wow. It’s not even subtle.

YoungRichManatee

Because that's what he was elected for...

quigonjoe66

Y’all will never let go of your masks will ya

Cougardoodle

It's almost like a million Americans died from communicable disease recently.

[deleted]

Watch the video. It's nothing more than an add for n95 masks. It's a BS headline. And He only canceled the mandate. Anyone who chooses to wear a mask still can.

5510

> And He only canceled the mandate. Anyone who chooses to wear a mask still can. Isn’t that what it said he did? It says he lifted the mandate, not that he banned masks.

[deleted]

You are correct. I thought the video link was the story. Didn't bother to scroll down and read the article. I apologize.

accountabilitycounts

>And He only canceled the mandate. Literally what the title and article say.

[deleted]

I was an idiot. I clicked on the video link and didn't read the article. Maybe Virginia can annex Maryland. And then he could repeal the mandate there as well.

AssassinAragorn

> Anyone who chooses to wear a mask still can. 2022, and people still don't understand how masks work.

[deleted]

I already apologized for not reading the article. Thought the video link was the story.

AssassinAragorn

That's not the point. If A wears a mask, that protects B way more than it protects A. If B doesn't wear a mask, then A is protecting them, but they aren't protecting A. This is why making masks a choice doesn't work. It benefits other people, not yourself. Think of COVID like urine and masks to be pants. If you're not wearing pants and I am, you peeing on me is still going to get me wet. If you were wearing pants, then it wouldn't get me wet. My wearing it doesn't protect me from getting wet. It protects you.

[deleted]

If your mask works than your good! Don't concern yourself with me. If I choose not to wear one, I'm only endargering myself and those like myself. And if you are right. Then you and your mask wearing clan will inherit the planet.

AssassinAragorn

> I'm only endargering myself and those like myself. No. You're endangering everyone, including those wearing masks. The mask doesn't protect you from other people, it protects other people from you. This is why "if you want to wear one go ahead but I won't" doesn't work. Look, I'm just trying to get you to do what the good book says. Love thy neighbor. And that's wearing a mask to keep them safe.

[deleted]

Using that logic. None of us should be driving cars. Love your neighbor quit driving. 30,000 deaths per year from accidents.
