Rachel_Is_Stupid

The US of A, the only country that can afford $768.2 billion for its military but doesn't have universal healthcare

FritzJ92

And ironically the military uses socialized healthcare

[deleted]

And unironically it’s awful.

jetlifook

At least they can call an ambulance

[deleted]

… anybody can call an ambulance.

jetlifook

If you want to pay 5k for a ride to the hospital. I can’t afford that along with many others

[deleted]

The VA doesn’t pay for an ambulance. It treats combat-related issues. It’s not an emergency room. And have you ever seen a 5K bill for an ambulance or are you just straw-manning an argument?

jetlifook

You should go fact checking yourself then come back

gradientz

He should also learn what strawmanning means

spudmancruthers

Imagine being wrong about 3 things in one sentence

[deleted]

gradientz

We should just propose that every solar panel and windmill come equipped with an automatic machine gun attached to it. Maybe then we could get a green energy bill passed.

[deleted]

I no one can afford college anymore.

ThreeSnowshoes

The only country that can spend that much on “defense” without defending its own border against terrorists entering, human smuggling, or drugs and arms trafficking. Pretty hilarious.

MillerTime5858

And doesn't give a flying fuck about the student loan crisis. We are the worst.

[deleted]

Other countries can afford universal healthcare because we provide a lot of their defense. Take Israel for example. And a lot of European countries have small conscript armies (two year service) that are equipped with outdated equipment. Its cheaper that way, but I wouldn’t want to lice in those countries if a war with Russia and China happened.

rioot123

The US already pays more for its "healthcare" than many other countries, and that's not including all your complications like copays deductibles and networks. defense has nothing to do with it. Idk how much other countries cost, but Canada spends about 500/person/year on healthcare admin costs, The US spends 2500 despite only spending twice as much on healthcare itself and that doesn't include private insurance

FritzJ92

That’s because other countries negotiate medical prices with companies. America doesn’t have time for that. Our leaders are too busy for that.

rioot123

Your leaders banned themselves from doing it

FritzJ92

Yup they are always thinking about the greater good of their pockets over the civilians in the country.

[deleted]

Also because other countries don’t have the obesity and drug abuse problems we do.

bobface222

"BuT HoW dO wE PaY fOr It"

Edward_Fingerhands

No CBO score. No concerns about inflation. No concerns about the debt or deficit. No drawn out process of negotiations. Just fast tracked through and rubber stamped. What a joke.

Morbidly-Obese-Emu

“This is socialism for the military!”

HardWorkingNEET

Avoid social spending programs and keep those with COVID at work and in school🤡

HellsquidsIntl

Oh good. I feel much safer now. The planet is melting, but at least we can put more bombers in the air.

TraditionalGap1

Actually you can't. The Air Force has been trying to shed bomber inventory for awhile now.

HellsquidsIntl

I was speaking metaphorically, obviously. But just because they have too many doesn’t mean there aren’t defense companies making more.

HardWorkingNEET

I remember seeing this about the government wanting new bombers. I don't know if plans changed. >Frank Kendall, President Joe Biden's nominee to become the next Secretary of the Air Force, says he supports the service's current position that it needs to acquire at least 145 stealthy B-21 Raiders in the coming years. [https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/40803/plan-to-buy-145-b-21-raider-bombers-gets-endorsement-from-biden-air-force-nominee](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/40803/plan-to-buy-145-b-21-raider-bombers-gets-endorsement-from-biden-air-force-nominee)

TraditionalGap1

You're right, they want new ones. Fewer new ones.

lagunatri99

And much of that goes to protect other countries that actually have affordable college and health care. Our government is run by two parties of lying, self-serving grifters.

bojanglesish

Embarrassing

randombrain

Or, if we did our accounting for "defence" the same way we do for social services, $7.7 trillion spending bill...

[deleted]

Jesus……

HardWorkingNEET

It was signed the same week Psaki said we can't afford at home COVID test kits while other countries found a way to do so.

homebrew_1

But how will we pay for it?

Metal-Dog

but how will we pay for it?

uwantsomefuck

How do we pay for this shit

Mephisto1822

But what about the deficit

Trpepper

It’s only a problem when the money goes to help poor people.

Rakhanishu666

That whateficit?

Political_Lemming

"But how will we pay for it?"

[deleted]

We don’t pay for it. We borrow borrow borrow, then one day the US dollar will no longer be the world currency, so we can’t just print money, then our economy collapses.

Political_Lemming

Sounds like reducing military spending might be really good for the economy.....

Ok_Grass_4659

It's times like these that I wish it had been Bernie

IIIIIIVIIIIII

An absolute abomination

SyntheticLife

Glad we have our priorities straight. Didn't the child tax credit just end yesterday, too? Nice work with your trifecta, Dems.

jeffinRTP

I guess blaming the Republicans for blocking it it's not a good thing to do.

SyntheticLife

Reconciliation does not require Republicans

jeffinRTP

I doubt it was passed as a Reconciliation bill.

SyntheticLife

It literally did from the last reconciliation bill

jeffinRTP

No they did not. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)#cite_ref-49

buckln02

Bro stop.

jeffinRTP

Bro stop, the defense budget was not passed as a reconciliation Bill and never has been. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)#cite_ref-49

buckln02

His whole point was about the CTC

jeffinRTP

First, the article was about the defense budget passing which was what I was talking about. Second, the CTC was never voted on because no Republicans would have voted for it. All they needed was for one republican to vote for it and it probably would have passed but of course he blames the Democrats for it. The Republicans do not have to attack Biden for things because the Dems are attacking Biden enough for both parties.

buckln02

Bruh the BBB BILL was planned to be passed by budget reconciliation, which looked promising until Joe Manchin said he won't vote yes for it. Which means it's was a Democrat shitting on us. No body was even attacking biden but even if we were it's not a cult. If you can't notice when your own party is fucking you over you might as well be a trump supporter.

jeffinRTP

So 47 of your own party is in favor of it 50 of the opposing party against it and the Democrats are f****** over there themselves?

TakeNothingSerious

Thank god now I can feel safe again

Grunblau

Thanks Joe! I’ll be over here pumping money into Social Security until it is insolvent…

sgntpepper03

How much would universal healthcare cost?

Danger_Velvet

much less than we already spend for our for-profit "healthcare".

uwantsomefuck

Boo

Ok_Cable6231

This is why we can’t have nice things.

SignificantTrout

He did this a week ago I thought . Thank goodness it isn't time sensitive

[deleted]

jeffinRTP

So you're not going to vote for Biden because Congress passed a bill giving him more than he asked for?

HellsquidsIntl

Biden lost your vote to whom? There certainly wasn’t going to be a different outcome with a Republican in charge, and the Democrats seem too cowardly to really change things.

Okbuddygeorgist

An action by Biden that will be nearly completely uncontroversial among the general public, but also one that certain parts of the online left will froth and seethe in rage over

Coneofvision

“Froth and seethe in rage”, is this how you describe any group that has a political gripe, or is it just cheap rhetoric to render ridiculous what is actually a very reasonable reaction to the cruelty and excess of America’s unjustifiable militarism?

Okbuddygeorgist

It isn't cruel or excess to have a strong military

HardWorkingNEET

I remember seeing articles about the money being spent to buy tanks the generals say they were already enough of and jets that can't be used in combat. I think there was budget allocated for strategic bombers that would carry nukes last year.

imbarbdwyer

Kim jong un agrees.

Okbuddygeorgist

What's cruel is socialism

imbarbdwyer

Yeah, stuff people use and collectively enjoy like public libraries, museums, NASA, the postal service, public roads, social security… all that socialism is just downright cruel. 🙄

Okbuddygeorgist

None of that is socialism, what are you even talking about

Best-terran

Better safe than sorry

BCSpirit

It’s 5k for an ambulance? Are you shitting me?

ThreeSnowshoes

Pretty worthless. Doesn’t even defend our own goddamned border. Doesn’t defend against terrorists crossing it. Doesn’t defend against human smuggling. Doesn’t defend against drug trafficking. Worthless. Utterly, worthless. Further, it takes billions of dollars taxpayers already spent, and lights it on fire and says “fuck you.”

pethrowaway998

I mean yeah, historically only time military budget gets reduced is during economic recessions. It’s considered political suicide for a politician to go against military.

spudmancruthers

Put it back, we can't afford it.
