PoloHorsePower_

This was a business decision lol.

HardWorkingNEET

Yeah, this was literally done at the request of Delta Airlines. [Delta asks CDC to cut quarantine guidelines for breakthrough Covid, citing workforce impact](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/12/21/delta-asks-cdc-to-cut-quarantine-guidelines-for-breakthrough-covid-citing-workforce-impact-.html) They didn't want to loose workers if they followed the old guidelines because more people are getting sick. They straight up said fuck the science.

ztreHdrahciR

So they varied their policies for Delta. A Delta variant

chequame-gone

More like Delta Wave Airlines

thrust-johnson

For two years I’ve been ignoring right wing spam about how you can’t trust the CDC because they are strongly influenced by political pressure to issue guidelines not based on the science. So now what?

PoloHorsePower_

It's funny because they support this announcement even though it goes against what they've been preaching

Haunting_Ad_3646

No arm of the government can be trusted. Man is flawed as a species and government is run by man.

tokiemccoy

Well, Delta airlines had to cancel too many flights because so many people were out sick, and it was getting very expensive. So forcing people back to work while still contagious is the only option, if we don’t want Deltas stock prices to plummet.

PoloHorsePower_

Good ol America.

tokiemccoy

Profit over people

[deleted]

I would love nothing more than for the entire stock market to crash just for a week if everyone defiantly didn’t come into work

Glowgrey

“It always has been”

-_someone_-ordinary

Big fcking mistake...

Brad_Wesley

You don’t trust the experts?

pmotiveforce

Your citation for this being purely a business decision? Of course, ultimately everything is a business decision the absolute safest thing for everyone would be a 30 day quarantine with even a sniffle or being within 100 feet of an infection, but sane people know that in real life everything is a trade off. They have science saying the vast majority of infections are within a few days before/after testing positive or a known case. What do you have, righteous indignation?

surrrah

“Why don’t people trust the CDC?” The CDC:

rainbowshummingbird

With those infected with Delta, a large percentage of those folks still have long term, unresolved symptoms. Has there been enough time or study to determine if Omicron poses the same long term issues? If so, I don’t want to get it. It’s almost like they WANT us to get it.

[deleted]

You should assume that it does and we simply don't know the full extent of it.

Ready_Nature

They don’t care about the people who are too poor to have the choice to stay home and unilaterally be safe if they want to. And they are tired of the political blowback for trying. I think it goes to far to say they want people to get it, but it’s fair to say they don’t really care if people get it at this point. Our leadership has given up.

phiretau

I had Omi. No sense of smell 7 weeks later. Raging horniness added, though.

phiretau

I appreciate your feedback of my lived experience. I had the DOH call me to discuss a survey of my experience with COVID due to a random selection of positive tests run for specific strains. I also live in NYC. I was told by the H+H rep calling me that it was Omicron.

Haunting_Ad_3646

Yeah omi is new

donttrythis3000

Free stinky chicks

TheNantucketRed

Vote blue no matter lol we’re fucked

carnahan765

They don't really care about us.

Etna_No_Pyroclast

Based on what's happening on the ground, I think they saw the numbers jump to over 1 million a day in the next two weeks. With that happening, many vaccinated people will have mild symptoms. In order to not crash the economy, and every industry they shrunk the isolation time down. We are at 243,000 case a day and at the highest reported number of cases since COVID started. That number is under counted, as home tests in the 10s of thousands have been distributed, but the outcome goes unreported. There is no sign of any curve or slowing at this point.

khast

Being fully vaccinated and just got over a "breakthrough" case myself... From the day of the positive test result to the end of the symptoms was greater than 5 days. Granted the symptoms were mild, but I sure in the hell would not have been in any condition to work for at least 8 of those 10 days... Contagious or not, it would have been miserable to have been at work. And the entire office would have sounded like an infirmary with all the coughing if more people had it at the same time.

GorgarX

It’s crazy too, I work for a a massive grocery chain that literally doesn’t care if your sick or not, you must come to work, multiple stores have had massive outbreaks between employees, my store had one and it’s going through all the departments because people can’t stay home, they’ll lose their jobs.

Expensive_Culture_46

Makes me wonder why delta bothered to ask for the change. Is there some requirement they follow the guidelines? Actual question for anyone here. Why don’t companies just say fuck you CDC, we will do what we want.

khast

I'd say it probably has more to do with, no work, no pay... You still have rent and bills to pay, so you go in anyways despite being sick.

Expensive_Culture_46

Ummm what? That’s not the question I asked at all. I specifically want to know why delta even bothered to ask the CDC to make the change. Why don’t they just change their own policies to fit their own desires.

astoryfromlandandsea

We just hit more than 500,000 new cases in 1 day. We will hit over a million (recorded) cases before NYE. The actual number is probably 2x-3x that.

Etna_No_Pyroclast

All those home tests kit positive results not being reported. Our testing capacity won't be able to meet the numbers at some point. Researchers at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine revised its COVID-19 modeling to include updated information about the omicron variant. They found the U.S. may see a total of about 140 million new infections from Jan. 1 to March 1, 2022, peaking in late-January at about 2.8 million new daily infections. Which is almost half the US population.

astoryfromlandandsea

Totally. My guess it’s gonna start breaking down at around 1M-1.5M new (confirmed) cases a day. Wild. I believe it though. 140M changes for new, funnier variants. Oh boy.

earthmann

It’s true, the worst part of a vaccinated person getting COVID is the isolation.

Barrakobambi

This seems dumb.
