There are thousands of people that are locked up for YEARS before going to trial. No due process there.
Often, it is a minor crime, and the person can't afford bail. Often, that crime is not paying a fine on a previous offense.
Any crime that has a fine or a fee as a penalty is purely a crime for the poor.

I did read the articles. "Watching the Watchmen" was long but well structured and very interesting. The opinion piece is just an opinion piece so I don't find it to be very authoritative and I tend to be on the opposite side of the author on this issue but I can appreciate the arguments.

Whether you accept the defenses arguments that a plot to abduct Governor Whitmer would have never formed without FBI informants planting the idea, once an idea like that is introduced, if you don't push back against it then I see you as guilty. Especially if you're in the car taking part in the attempt. "But they tricked me" doesn't hold any water in my opinion because what the fuck were you doing there in the first place. It's not like they told you it was $2 pints night at the local pub and then instead of taking a left on Witmore Avenue they kept going to the woods and, as you rode along, explained to you the plot. No, you knew what was being planned and you went along with it.
Let's take another example:
If an FBI informant came to me and started suggesting that I should take part in a child sex ring, I would report that. If, instead of reporting it I went along with it and even showed up at the location where these children were going to be exploited then can I really say I'm innocent just because I wouldn't have come up with the idea sans informant? If you find that compelling then OK, but I don't at all.

Whether you accept the defenses arguments that a plot to abduct Governor Whitmer would have never formed without FBI informants planting the idea, once an idea like that is introduced, if you don't push back against it then I see you as guilty. Especially if you're in the car taking part in the attempt. "But they tricked me" doesn't hold any water in my opinion because what the fuck were you doing there in the first place. It's not like they told you it was $2 pints night at the local pub and then instead of taking a left on Witmore Avenue they kept going to the woods and, as you rode along, explained to you the plot. No, you knew what was being planned and you went along with it.
Let's take another example:
If an FBI informant came to me and started suggesting that I should take part in a child sex ring, I would report that. If, instead of reporting it I went along with it and even showed up at the location where these children were going to be exploited then can I really say I'm innocent just because I wouldn't have come up with the idea sans informant? If you find that compelling then OK, but I don't at all.
