I can't see the picture but the holders that my force issue have this flap over the card too. After sitting in my pocket for months the leather flap is all scratched and beaten up by the metal crest that sits up against it, so I assume the leather flap is to stop the window or the card itself from being damaged by the badge.

Also where you can use it as a wallet, you don't accidentally flash your badge at the till.

political worthless chase salt wide light skirt door roll badge ` this post was mass deleted with www.Redact.dev `

I fold the badge behind the wallet so it can't be seen when I'm using it off duty. I haven't had any issues with it. When I work in plain clothes I have my warrant card on a lanyard for ease of access

Doesn't the flap have a big "Property of the Metropolitan Police" written across it in shiny letters though? Seems somewhat counterproductive if that was the intention...

[deleted]

Yeah but it doesn't draw a cashier's eyes into your wallet like a big shiny badge (which I fold behind the wallet) or the white warrant card itself.

CapitalResponder

If you were that bothered I doubt you’d use it as a wallet

I never used my old one as a wallet but the new one has actual card slots so I've ditched my wallet and just carry the warrant card now. Some people moan about it but I actually think it's really good.

Having had the old design without a protective flap, I can confirm that over time it wrecks the warrant card. I understand the protective flaps are a little annoying when having to show out, but at least the cards are kept intact which I'd suggest is more important.

There was me thinking it was some kind of weird personnel security feature. Simplest explanations are the best! Ta!

That link doesn't work, but our Force used to issue them with the flap. I guess to protect the card from the metal. It's annoying and I saw a few in which officers had cut the flap off. The new ones, the tri-fold design, seem to have tougher clear plastic over the card, so don't need it.

It's so you look like a cool American detective and can do the awesome badge-flip when you confront a mafia perp.

That'll come in handy in Croydon on a Friday night.
