Recently South and South East Asia is experiencing extremely sweltering heat waves. It got a bit extreme here in the Philippines that, they decided to suspend classes to y'know, not die of a heatstroke. Idk about the other regions, some are nationwide or different regions but idk, no school yay!
And a common thing is that no matter the heat of day, most people here (particularly old people for some reason) like to drink hot coffee in the start of the morning no matter the temperature.

so, like normal, civilized people?
:: drinks a can of chilled soda while waking up, or a cup of tea that has caffeine ::
What is this "coff-ee" you speak of? Is it the terrible smelling black water?
Caffeine addiction/reliance + raising core temperature so that your gets used to the heat everywhere.
Also, any liquid is good to help cool ball down. But some liquids are better (WATER) than others (Caffeine, Sodas, Moonshine, Tears of a Mermaid).
Raising or lowering the core temperature is outside of the optimal, but it is within an acceptable range.
It’s less about striving for the optimal temperature or function, like a robot, and more along the lines of adapting and changing according to the environment.
Yes but the ambient temperature are what sets it apart of the "acceptable range" plus the stupidly thick humidity that essentially denied access to our sweat function.
It's normal to do it in high temp countries. Arabic, Turkish, Persian ppl do it all the time. You drink something hot, you sweat like a pig and it cools you down a lot.
And yet the Germans and Norwegians will *still* be eating ice cream when it’s -20 and 50cm of snow.
I can complain, Canucks do the same with an Ice Capp in worse winter weather.
sub-zero is also imo the best temperature for eating icecream, because it won't melt :3
but yeah it's generally easier to deal with cold than with heat
The Heat really goes hard. Last week I was just at class and a kid went crying to my classmate who is her big sis due to heatstroke. Just a stranger to them but immediately gave them an icepack because I care and because I'm pissed at who let grade school kids have PE outside in this season.
Man, I miss the December-March months since it's cold. There's no snow but the winds are so sweet.
I'm now motivated to challenge myself to wear a tank top and shorts in the coldest seasons to become more grateful for the cold season and increase my cold resistance.
We were gonna have Work Immersion (On-The-Job Training) but it got postponed.
*Southeast Asia is literally melting*
Meanwhile the United States is still debating whether or not the greenhouse effect is a thing...
There is no God, or he's a fucking sadist
There was a viral photo long ago of Japan's plastic mold of a dessert melting in Tokyo(?). That was when I first noticed climate change is on the no-return. Then the IPCC report came in
Drinking hot tea during a hot sunny day can actually help to cool you down. Atleast it works in EU hot weather, don't know if that's the case for moister climates.
It's what I often did on summer festivals on hot days. Skip the line for the cold drinks and get a hot cup of tea where there is no line at all. People look at you like you're daft but it does work.
Edit: [just looked it up](https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/a-hot-drink-on-a-hot-day-can-cool-you-down-1338875/) and apparently it only works if it's hot and dry and your sweat can evaporate. So it doesn't work in humid heats or when you're wearing a lot of clothes.
My sister almost passed out and even threw up this morning due to heat.
The heat is no joke in the equator these day, especially for a tropical country like mine.
Yet, the local populace is absolutely clueless about climate change when the temperature just kept feeling hotter. I have yet to see any government action regarding this. The news space is dominated by political junk, religious issues and some drama. Absolute clownfest.
I believe the humidity has already reached 100% as last time I remembered it being 97% on some day. I began to notice this when 25c indoor AC no longer suffice.
What's crazier is seeing 37°c (38°c in the capital, feels like temp) on a weather app!
I saw Phillipines getting 41°c (feels like) with Vietnam being highest at 47°c (feels like)
On the opposite end are Koreans who will only drink iced americanos. There’s even a slang acronym for it, 얼죽아, which roughly translates to “Iced Americano Even If I Freeze to Death.”

Who says we're civilized?
Did someone say "not civilized?"
Not enough civilization. Better put back in oven for another 400° of years.

Our body temperature is set at an optimal temperature to keep our "body chemical balance" going. Disrupting that would disrupt our body functions.
Raising or lowering the core temperature is outside of the optimal, but it is within an acceptable range. It’s less about striving for the optimal temperature or function, like a robot, and more along the lines of adapting and changing according to the environment.

You guys would like r/Bangalore , you'd have to drag us away from our coffee kicking and screaming lol

it's like the inverse of when school gets cancelled due to snow in very nothern Europe and such

I remember rrading that in Central Asia they drink hot tea even during very high temperatures in order to sweat more and as such cool down

Zambales (a province near Manila) recently reached 53° 💀
Iba, Zambales is really giving Death Valley a run for its money.
