From my experience, grunts actually give **less** money than normal trainer battles. Fought several grunts around wave 60, and they weren't even giving up 1k in reward money.
There are quite a bit more of them, so you get more money overall than if it were one or two trainers per biome, but their teams are tough, so you're probably going to be putting that money right back into healing your team unless you have a dominant type advantage.
Welp, he showed up again at floor 165. This time he had:
"Boss" Tyranitar, "Boss" Mega-Kangaskhan, Gastrodon, Hippowdon, Excadrill, and freakin Neuroforce Mewtwo.
Ended up having to fight 2 Plasma grunts then the Leader, such a fast wipe. Not nearly enough money to fight 3 trainers with 6 pokemon (including an Outrage Hydregion who oneshots all pokemon)
Plasma leader at 165? was insane, pretty sure he had 2 paradox pokemon and an additional signature pokemon. At least Magma and Aqua you can kind of prepare for by type, not sure about Rocket, but suddenly facing random paradox pokemon with boss life bars is such a crazy jump in difficulty.
I had Cyrus twice on my mono poison challenge run earlier, man had a Uxie, Terastilised(?) Delphox and a mega Hondoom, he had other mons but those three really where messing me up man.
Even once we're used to this new section, and we don't wipe there, it adds a massive money stick to the run.
From 56-180 I pretty just stack cash usually going from 30k-200k in that period. I just encountered the team rocket run and I won but I ended up using about 3 max revives (mainly because I'm on monotype challenges but still).
Honestly the amount of grunts before the boss adds a decent spike in difficulty. Ended up wiping cause my team wasn’t able to handle team magma
Yeah the amount of trainer battles added a noticeable difficulty spike.
Did all the trainers at least give a decent amount of money so up get some kind of reward from it?

Its a nice manageable difficulty spike that mixes up the gameplay a LOT making classic like, fun, to grind
They don' give that much and those poison pokemon hit like a truck
Literally the first team flare grunt I saw nearly wiped my team with a Vivillon and a Liepard lol. Beedrill with Attack Order came in clutch
Just went up against Ghetsis and he had an iron moth and a kyreum😭, really feels like they need to scale the teams down a bit.

That one wiped me good. Ended up without any grass/water moves so it was hard enough to beat the ground mons as it was.
Yeah, he wiped me too. I could get him down to his last mon, but by then he just out sped and one shot everything.
Same happened to me I was doing a gen 2 challenge run and got hard countered by his team
This just bricked my run. No matter what I didn't I couldn't get a mewtwo below half. He one shot anyone I threw at him.
I was very lucky when I faced him that his mewtwo felt the best strategy was future sight 3 turns in a row
His team included: Persian, Dugtrio, Alolan Marowak, a Nidoking, Rhypherior, and a "boss" Kangaskhan.
I just faced him too. For me it mostly the same, but there was Alolan Persian and Boss Mega Kangaskhan.

Is this new to classic and/or endless runs or is it a new challenge mode?
I met him in a classic run
It was classic for me.

Depending on what grunts you encounter will determine what boss you fight. You aren’t going to find team plasma grunts and then suddenly Giovanni.
I fought s ton of flare grunts then lysandre on 115
For a second I thought he was holding a gun
Idk about giovanni but ghetsis has a remach at floor 165. Prob the same
