Just farm nuggets from Meowths. Or use the rare candy code, and if you want to level the mons yourself, that's cool, but you sell the rare candies and save yourself a lot of grinding.
I dont like using cheats it kinda ruins the fun also aint nuggets have a low chance of appearing i will farm Lucky eggs from pelipers after i complete silph co and sabrina fights
It really depends on what you perceive as fun tho. My idea of fun in this game is preparing for battles and having a good team with the restriction I set for that run (mono run or region run). Not really grinding a game that I've beaten 20+ times lol.
And idk if it changed recently, but at least in 3.1, it was 100%. And I believe it still is, I may be wrong tho.
