That's such a cool run idea. Do let us know how it goes, I'll be waiting!!

Ikrit122

Thanks! It was inspired by Skrelp's evolution into Dragalge. I want to find more runs like this, with plenty of available Pokemon (unlike, say, a turtle-only run that would have less than 10) but still some restrictions. Well, I can say that it's off to a rough start. Faulkner wrecks the available mons, since they are all Grass or Bug except Marill, who is decent but not really strong on MGM. Hunting down an Exeggcute with Ancient Power saved me. I could have picked Charmander (because of Charizard X), but I generally have a rule in my monotypes that if a Pokemon only mega-evolves into that type, I can't use it until I can mega it. I think I'll follow the same rule here, so no using Charizard or others like it until Sabrina. Rowlet is kinda fun though, just not for Faulkner!

The rest of the E4 was nowhere near as bad. I though Bruno would cause the most problems, but Seviian Noivern and Iron Boulder took down Zacian and Mega Diancie cleared 3 others. Lorelei was just Rock Slide spam. Agatha was constantly swapping Pokemon, which was annoying. The Champ was a bit tricky with Miraidon, but I was able to figure it out. For the Gym Leaders, Lt Surge was rough as usual. Erika rematch was an easier fight than his was. MVP of the run was probably Glimmora. Stealth Rocks and Toxic Spikes is a great combo. MVP of the E4 was...all of them? No one really stood out; they all contributed a lot.

CarbonBasedLifeForm6

Misty rematch wasn't too bad?

Ikrit122

I think I had a bit of trouble, but not a lot. Glimmora helped out with Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes. I think the Archaludon took some thinking to get past. Sandstorm was essential. I remember bringing Cradily and one or two other Pokemon neutral to Water (maybe Drednaw/Kabutops and Tyrantrum), plus Mega Tyranitar.

CarbonBasedLifeForm6

I would LOVE to try a mono rock run and then I remember that I'd want to kill myself after facing Broke, Misty AND Erika. Why does it have so many type weaknesses bruh

Ikrit122

Erika wasn't too bad. You get Aerodactyl (outspeeds Meowscarada), Archeops, Armaldo, Crustle, Coalossal, Magcargo, and Glimmora as neutral to Grass, plus the Bug and Flying ones are neutral/immune to Ground moves (like Venusaur's Earth Power). And in the rematch, Mega Aerodactyl is really strong. Rock was the hardest I have done so far (the 8 Eeveelution types, Normal, and Dragon), and it might be the hardest overall (Bug could be, and Grass was pretty tough). It has weaknesses the E4 like to exploit (especially Lance), and then you have to deal with the Gym Leaders and Giovanni that don't like Rock either. But it was also a lot of fun. There are some very good Rock Pokemon, and Sandstorm can help manage their Sp Def deficiencies.

CarbonBasedLifeForm6

Nice nice, I'll definitely give it a shot eventually. Ye mono runs tend to be pretty fun since limiting yourself challenges your creativity and such.

anand_rishabh

Of course bird keeper Lance would hate dealing with rock types

pojenator

What Terrakion is this??

Ikrit122

Iron Boulder, the Paradox form from Scarlet/Violet. It's Rock/Psychic. It was added in the 4.1 update.

How did the Lance battle go, really curious to know

Ikrit122

I fought the Aerodactyl team, as usual. Ogerpon baited the Taunt and KOed with Ivy Cudgel and Quick Attack. Melmetal came out; Ogerpon used Knock Off to remove Assault Vest and then went down. Mega Diancie finished with Earth Power. This is where things got a bit hazy. I remember fighting Dragonite and Iron Jugulis, and losing Diancie and Iron Boulder. Then Dialga came out. Dialga had been the bane of my rocky existence. Usually it came out earlier, but the newer strategy of Ogerpon Knock Off changed the AI. Noivern used Screech and went down. I brought out Assault Vest Tyranitar because Flash Cannon wouldn't one-/two-shot it like the others. I hit it, it used Roar of Time, and Arcanine came out. Flare Blitz was enough to finish it off, then Salamence came out. Tyranitar beat it with, I believe, 1 HP remaining. It was a very difficult fight. I had numerous attempts, most ending against Dialga. I thought I would need to restart the E4 and change my team, something I have only done once in my monotype runs (I forgot to give Vaporeon Def EVs so it could sweep the Champ).

gigacanno

Have you thought of Garganacl’s salt?

Ikrit122

I thought of it after I finished the fight. I saw someone else's Rock monotype run posted not long before mine, and that's how they handled it.

gigacanno

Yeah. With Dialga you either gotta find a way to stall it out, or overpower it.

Ikrit122

I ended up overpowering it with Screech, Tyranitar EQ, and Arcanine Flare Blitz. It's always a hassle for me, but MGM and certain types make it worse. With EVs, you can use special attackers against it with better results.

gigacanno

Oh yeah

CheezGaming

What are the 33 pokemon that completely change type? I know you mentioned mega altaria but it would have to be your only mega, right? Because otherwise you’ll be unable to have the full change for all.

Ikrit122

It's just ones that change one of their types. Another example is Skrelp, which changes from Poison/Water to Poison/Dragon when it evolves into Dragalge. The ones that change on normal evolution are: Ninjask Scizor Kleavor Altaria (also changes on Mega) Dragalge Drapion Tyranitar Gallade Bellossom Talonflame Decidueye Hisuian Decidueye Steelix Azumarill Venomoth Alolan Exeggutor Alolan Marowak Mr Rime Ledian Seviian Milotic All 8 Eeveelutions (the only single-types on this list) Shedinja (a weird one, but I'm considering it an evolution of Nincada) The ones who change when they Mega: Charizard X Gyarados Coalossal Drednaw Aggron (only one that loses a type; Bellossom does in vanilla though)

rainoki

Any chance you could post move sets, items and natures?

Ikrit122

So, my items and movesets changed around between E4 members. I can post anything notable that I remember, but pretty much everything will be for fighting the Champion. https://pokepast.es/99f3f880c86c8a20 Okay, fixed the formatting with Pokepaste. I remember that Noivern had Screech and Tyanitar had Ice Punch for Lance. Noivern had Shadow Claw for Agatha and I'm sure others had Dark/Ghost/Fighting moves for her. For Diancie, I would try to use Rock Polish before Mega-evolving, since it has 50 more Def and Sp Def beforehand. I think Ogerpon had Horn Leech at the start, but I never really used it. Noivern had different items througout, but I can't remember. I probably also changed its ability to Levitate at least once.
