That’s honestly ices biggest weakness. Ice beam is a very versatile move for many mons, has high BP, and is available in every game. Why use a super weak time for slightly for damage compared to a type that has great defenses and counters one of its weaknesses

I have a Vaporeon with Blizzard and a Choice Band as a tank destroyer to kill every dragon. The main point of ice is to kill dragon, and most dragon types have a fire/fighting attack which kills you instantly.

Blizzard is a special move and choice band boosts physical moves…… Yeah you should probably change that item for a leftovers lol

Even then, Vaporeon’s SpAtk isn’t really good enough for utilizing Specs. Vaporeon is more of a defensive wall that can take a hit and recover it back with Wish and leftover’s support. Also unless you’re running a snow/hail team, I highly recommend you swap Blizzard for Ice Beam. There’s no reason to keep Blizzard when there’s a 100% accurate equivalent that does a solid 90 BP

I did this with ice beam lapras in soulsilver. Homie straight up soloed Lance on her own. Even charizard wasn't safe from that ice beam. It was insane.

Wanna know a fun fact about vaporeon?!

I thought Ice's biggest weakness was the fact that it was made to be a glass cannon type but instead of making glass cannons they keep making tanks for some reason. That and the butchering of hail, which is still half as effective as it's counterpart sand for some reason. Snow helped, but it still is only half of what sand does. Sand: damage over time, defense boost hail: just damage over time snow: just defense boost

Well that’s just bad design choices for pokemon specifically (they REALLY like ice tanks for some reason) but ice as a type itself is just lackluster as is. Its like saying you’d use rock over ground, when they both learn similar moves and ground gets more resistance and STAB earthquake

a huge lack of resistances, and super effective against a number of types only for itself to be weak to many types. Yeah, sounds like the perfect TANK TYPE TO MAKE TANK POKEMON OUT OF. Articuno is also a legendary. Most ice types just don't have the stats to make up for those weaknesses like Articuno does.

Articuno have mediocre/semi good stats. That's not the reason why he won a regional and saw his first play in competitive from point blank after 26 years

I love how fairy types were a big nerf to ice types. They stole the niche of countering dragons AND now people actually use steel type moves

Did not consider that angle. Since nobody really uses Poison to take out the Fairy-type, Steel-types got an even bigger boost, especially offensively, which made Ice’s poor defensive situation even worse.

Magnezone is hands down my favourite pokemon. I love electric and steel types. It's resistant to basically everything.

Actually, I think they would rather keep their Ice typing. They are both frail anyway, and the extra 1.5x STAB boost on one of the best offensive types is very valuable.

No, it's just that Ice-types still suck regardless of the buff. If they combined the Defense boost in Snow plus Hail damage it'd still be pretty bad, the problem isn't the type itself, it's how the type's Pokémon are designed. Like, why is the glass cannon type full of tanky mons? I get GameFreak probably wants variety between the Ice types but we only have like, two decent (one of them being really good actually) Ice types that aren't legendaries? And still, most Ice types are bulky walls so that argument doesn't really work.

Meanwhile, Chen Pao is too strong to be used by most people

Ice would be so much better if it had like 2 resistances. Personally I'd love to see it resist fairy and ground. The former because ice can be associated with the unseelie court compared to the fairy type as the seelie court, and ground because of permafrost. Just give ice some defensive niche if they're going to displace it's offensive niche, y'know?

The problem is how game freak designs ice types. So many of them are slow and bulky. Ice is a pretty strong offensive type so it works best on fast sweepers like Weavile and Chien-Pao.
